While they were in high spirits, they shouted, “Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them.
When they stood him among the pillars, 26 Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” Posted by: r hennigantx at December 04, 2025 09:37 AM (gbOdA) 31

"The painting illustrates the moment when Delilah, having seduced Samson, instructs an accomplice to cut his hair, robbing him of his strength. Samson is shown asleep in Delilah's lap, symbolizing his vulnerability and trust." "The old woman in the background, holding a candle, is believed to represent a procuress, suggesting the theme of betrayal and the consequences of seduction." "Delilah's beauty is juxtaposed with the old woman's withered appearance, hinting at the fleeting nature of beauty and the moral implications of her actions. The statue of Venus and Cupid in the background further emphasizes themes of love and betrayal, with Cupid's mouth bound, symbolizing the silencing of true love." A Nazarite's vow typically included the following three main commitments:
Abstinence from Wine: The individual must refrain from consuming wine, strong drink, and any products derived from grapes, including vinegar. Uncut Hair: The Nazarite must not cut their hair for the duration of the vow, symbolizing their dedication to God. Avoiding Ritual Impurity: They must not come into contact with corpses or graves, even those of family members, to maintain their ritual purity. 1 out of 3 aint bad Posted by: r hennigantx at December 04, 2025 09:43 AM (gbOdA) 54

Judges and Kings has some great stories:
Elisha went from that city to Bethel. He was walking up the hill to the city, and some boys were coming down out of the city. They began making fun of him. They said, “Go away, you bald-headed man! Go away, you bald-headed man!” 24 Elisha looked back and saw them. He asked the Lord to cause bad things to happen to them. Then two bears came out of the forest and attacked the boys. Posted by: r hennigantx FWIW, Story is more complex, Jewish tradition has a traditional interpretations of this passage. From Catholic Answers, "First of all, the famed Jewish Rabbi Rashi points out that what we translate as “little boys” had more than just that meaning. It was also a word that would be used to refer to those without mitzvot (without moral conscience) and thus could refer to any immoral person. Before the incident where Elisha is mocked by the young men, he had performed a miracle purifying the water in Jericho. A strand of Jewish tradition has claimed that these young men from Beth-el had been making a business out of bringing good water into Jericho and by purifying the water there the prophet had destroyed their business. Their “water cartel” could no longer take advantage of the situation, so they descended upon Elisha." Posted by: whig at December 04, 2025 09:51 AM (WDjG6) 89

Wojtek (/ˈvɔj.tɛk/; 1942–1963), a Syrian brown bear purchased as a cub by Polish soldiers in Iran during World War II, became the unofficial mascot of the Polish II Corps with the rank of private. Known for his friendly demeanor and unique behaviors, Wojtek often showered, traveled in truck cabs, and wrestled with soldiers. He had his own allotment of cigarettes, which he chewed, and enjoyed fruits, sweet syrups, marmalade, honey, and beer as rewards. Though he sometimes caused mischief, such as rummaging through provisions and stealing female undergarments.

Reading parts of the Talmud, you can certainly see why Jews traditionally have made superb secular lawyers (and those with a religious bent end up becoming rabbis that use and develop religious law as well). I saw the tapestry in Bayeux. What I never realized was that it was what we would call today a graphic novel. William the Conqueror commissioned it and had his crew take it from village to village to explain to everyone why William was now their King and why he was the rightful King. One of the panels shows him sitting at the right hand of his cousin Edward the Confessor; William's claim was that Harold, who succeeded Edward, wasn't as closely related to Edward as William was.
I also never realized that the Conquest wasn't a one-shot deal in 1066. It was apparently a much more gradual process. Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at December 04, 2025 10:27 AM (eStot) 225

Just saw that Daily Beast, I think, is resurrecting a complaint about the Southern Command General who quit (or was fired) at the start of the Drug Boat campaign, painting him as some Great American who was against the "illegal drug boat murders". More likely was something I saw at the time suggesting that he had developed some very close ties to some notable Cartel figures, and got canned for that. Doesn't matter - what they're really pissed about, besides interrupting the drug trade, is that Hegseth is methodically getting rid of the Biden/Obama leadership and putting new, more loyal leadership in their place. So many cars now are started by pushbutton.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius When I went back to Michigan in June, my rental car was a pushbutton. It's hard for me to get used to that. Still had a fob to lock/unlock it, though. Posted by: Bulg at December 04, 2025 *** The 2016 Buick is my first pushbutton start car. I have the fob for the doors, which technique I used for the previous two Buicks. But the '16 Buick has a deal where, if the fob is in range, you press a button in one of the door handles to unlock or lock. The '15 BMW was more annoying: You could place a finger atop the door handle and the car would unlock or lock. Caused frequent locking/unlocking when I was washing the car -- the water pressure was enough to trigger it. You mean that was a factory installation -- or the car was so old that turning the ignition key mount was enough to start it?
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 04, 2025 10:39 AM (wzUl9) The ignition had a slot to put the key in, so I think it was probably wear and tear that the locking mechanism on the key didn't lock any more. But all you had to do was just grab the ignition switch and turn it. Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at December 04, 2025 10:46 AM (eStot) 338

I'll admit that the ASS system on the '15 BMW was pretty seamless. Occasionally I tried it and the economy setting on the transmission, and while they worked well together, I hadn't bought the 3 Series for fuel economy. (It got great numbers, by the way.) The car seemed tired, even in slow traffic, when I combined those two.
It would go into ASS mode by design when you put the transmission in ECO; but you could turn the ASS off and it would stay off. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 04, 2025 10:46 AM (wzUl9) 340

Hey CBD, could you help me one more time? My home posting privileges were restored for about 5 minutes last night, and then all of the sudden vanished again. I had 3 or 4 posts in the first 20 of the ONT last night, and then all of the sudden nothing I posted would "stick". My home tag is visible in post 11 of the ONT because somebody quoted one of my posts. Posted by: Crusader at December 04, 2025 11:01 AM (TN0g+) 411
Well- OK. Don’t pay the “ticket” and see what happens.
— OK but then you could say people get arrested for parking illegally too. Right? You could ignore parking tickets and eventually be arrested for it. Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at December 04, 2025 11:02 AM (kz78D) 412
My daily is parked on the street. In winter it is pretty much always covered in frost in the morning. So the remote start is perfect to heat the car up and melt that frost without having to scrape.

Is Ireland Going to Erupt Into a Civil War Over Illegal Immigration?
Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks Euroland is a powder keg and if Ireland goes up or some other country in Euroland, it is likely to spread to other countries in pretty rapid succession. The EU has become a parody of the old Soviet Union and all the native citizens that are not in the current ruling elite are getting restless. I don't think mindless recitations of climate change doom is going to placate "aux citoyens" about witnessing their ongoing decline in living standards, safety, and society about them. All due to globalist elites making bank while their countries burn down around them. Posted by: whig at December 04, 2025 11:02 AM (WDjG6) 415

—— Ha! Leftists hate remote start almost as much as Republicans. They go to great lengths to ‘splain that engines don’t need to be warmed up. They warm up faster driving, under load. This is true. But then I point out I don’t warm up the engine for the engine, I warm it up for ME. I watch these dumb asses peering through a baseball sized clear spot in the windshield, wearing a parka, visibility zero. The hell with that. Get the chunks off ice out of the wheel wells and top of the car too. That’s the law, too. Thanks CBD!

Any damage I may theoretically do to the engine will be someone else’s problem anyway. I don’t keep cars for 20 years. Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at December 04, 2025 11:06 AM (kz78D) 419
I've come to the conclusion that if the car is less than 20 years old I don't want it.
---------------- I share this point of view but mostly I don't want my car to spy on me. Posted by: Pudinhead at December 04, 2025 11:12 AM (Wg6v7) 420
