Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 01, 2025 09:55 AM (wzUl9) In the 90's, I had a friend that was getting released from the prison in Huntsville, TX. There was an ice storm the night before, so my brother and I got up early and headed south in my 88 Fox Body 5.0 5-spd. I averaged 30 or so MPH because the highway was terrible. Took 8 hours to get there. There were countless yuppie tards in their 4WD SUV's going by at 60 that we'd come up on a few miles later after they careened off a guardrail or two and wound up in the ditch, stuck and damaged. Somehow, I've gotten these videos on my Toks that are about frontier buildings; mostly how the traditional log cabin you're used to seeing caused a lot of people to freeze to death.
Sure, it worked in the mild winters of the East and Europe. But out on the Plains and the West? Where temps hit 30 below? Whole families froze to death in their 16X16* log cabin. 8-inch logs ain't thick enough; chinking failed; exterior end-wall fireplace; small hearth; etc. saw them burn through the whole winter's wood in a month. *I think that was the minimum size required to stake your homestead. Put that in your file of gov rules getting people killed. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at December 01, 2025 10:04 AM (HXT0k) 120

One of the spiritual advisors to the television series "The Chosen" -- the Jewish biblical scholar and rabbi who now believes that Christ was The Messiah, Jason Sobel -- also does group tours called "Rock Road Rabbi Tours" via his organization named Fusion Global. [Wifey was raised as and traumatized from the Jehovah's Witness denomination and is agnostic; I was briefly raised Catholic, have become a believer in God because I believe now in Satan, am greatly influenced by Prager's "Rational Bible" Torah books, find myself crying at some point during each episode of The Chosen.] Thanks in advance, Dog (and/or others)! Posted by: Sponge ======== Truth is that no one, including Northerners drives well on glaze ice from a severe ice storm. Studded tires give a bit more traction but are not perfect and chains are about the best but still can have their problems if you get going too fast. That is because under the weight of the vehicle, the ice melts into a thin sheet of water briefly so you get water on top of ice. And personally, I would avoid pumping brakes on modern ABS systems on severe glaze type ice. The ABS computer is far smarter than a person is and can react quicker. I avoid using the brakes almost entirely and rely on friction slowing you down very gradually and use your accelerator pedal very carefully. And on going up hills, you never stop forward progress or you are cooked because sliding back down the hill can rapidly become uncontrolled. When I was a yute, I drove delivery trucks in ice with fragile products. Not fun and a simple right turn can result in a 180 quick. Posted by: whig at December 01, 2025 10:14 AM (WDjG6) 153

Posted by: tubal 22 LR kills far above its puny rating. For a time, the humble 22 LR killed more Americans than any other cartridge. The only problem with 22 LR is that it takes time to kill people unless you manage the rare CNS (Central Nervous System) shot. And that leaves time for the target to do you in before bleeding to death. Multiple shots can also be a factor as even a lowly 22 Saturday Night special revolver often held 8-9 bullets in its cylinder. More wounds, lower chance for survival and more damage to the body. Winter
David Teniers the Younger I like it a great deal. (When I 1st today's art selection, I thought of the Hall of the Mountain King. ) It's one of a series of paintings entitled, The Four Seasons. Today's selection is, obviously, Winter. The National Gallery, in part - Overview: Wrapped in velvet and fur, he hunches over to warm his hands at a brazier. His face is lined and wrinkled, his beard long and frosted with white. But his cap with its fur wings gives an impression of speed and strength, like a winter wind. About the Series: This series of four small paintings is an allegory of the seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter have been given human forms that embody the essence of each. Spring is a gardener carrying a tree to plant in a formal garden; Summer is a peasant tying up a sheaf of corn; Autumn is a drinker who raises a glass of wine; and Winter is an old man wearing a fur cap and mantle, warming himself near a brazier. Strongly influenced early in his career by the Dutch artist Adriaen Brouwer, Teniers became the most famous painter of peasant life of his day, rivalling Brouwer’s rowdy, raunchy tavern scenes full of larger-than-life characters. 👍 Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at December 01, 2025 10:33 AM (NFX2v) 219

22 LR kills far above its puny rating. For a time, the humble 22 LR killed more Americans than any other cartridge.
The last time I checked for all pistol calibers, that the .22lr results in more one shot kills than any other caliber. Many of these are delayed kills; since emergency room surgeons have more trouble sealing the tiny wound track of the 22lr than any other pistol round. Why do hit men use .22lr? Because you can't do ballistics on a .22lr bullet. Note that Eskimos actually hunt Polar Bears with .22lr. Of course to be fair, Eskimos had to invent the dog sled to keep their enormous balls from dragging in the snow. A lot of that demo has simply taken on the views of their parents or “teachers”. Most couldn’t factually argue their way out of a paper bag, as reality would expose the feeble, mendacious and destructive ways of their worldview. This is also the same group who states things aren’t “affordable” mostly because they don’t want to work hard for anything. They have been protected by their parents both financially and intellectually, so they are largely unrealistic in their wants and desires. This group is also emptying their parents nest eggs at a record rate, so there is nowhere for them to go except into other people’s resources. At some point there will be a reckoning and those on the right side are going to realize they have to fight to maintain our country and there own property. Not many can drive in rain, how can they drive in snow?
Also, watch the cars & trucks travelling through road work sites without lights, not heeding the speed limits, etc. It's always a disaster waiting to happen. Sitting, observing in District Court again last week, it was impossible not to noticed how many of the teeming masses yearning to breathe free and now also "our own" who hadn't had vehicle registrations, licenses and/or insurance while on the roads, and then likely only obtained coverage for a short duration after being cited by police, that being immediately before and after their legal hearings. It's a scarier world out here. Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at December 01, 2025 10:53 AM (NFX2v) 292

lol. They won’t wine in the end and any victory will be temporary and pyrrhic. People on the right side of these issues always give a lot of rope for subversives to hang themselves with. But they’re starting to get down to the people who just want to live their lives and be left alone. That’s when the rubber meets the road because people such as these always overstep the boundaries. That’s when people will fight back and start nailing them to telephone poles.
