Whenever I see Judgement at Nuremburg, which is whenever it's on, I think to myself 'Col Klink gets what's coming to him' because one of the defendants is Werner Klemperer, who would play Col Klink in Hogans Heros in a few years.

Speaking of Werner's - whatever happened to the person with the Werner nic who used to make lengthy posts?

When I rolled over I must have pulled the blanket tight and launched him off the bed, and he caught the blanket with one paw so he just dangled for a minute over the edge before he let go and went to the living room to finish the night

18 Speaking of things they took from us, yesterday I saw a print ad for a 76 Caprice four door hardtop. That was not the equivalent of todays $100k four door pickup although the truck probably sells to the same demo the Caprice did. Normal adult people with normal pay could buy that Caprice, without making large payments for 7 or 8 years, and many many did. Sure, the Caprice fell apart quicker, maybe, but a car was not required to last 10-15 years because of the huge financial investment

20 Cheetahs are very un-catlike cats. They look feline, of course, but they are in their own genus, not Felis or Panthera, and we know that they cannot retract their claws but have them out like a dog. (Makes for good traction during those fast runs after prey, I guess.)

And is very effective, as is Klemperer. The latter did a *lot* of serious stuff before landing the role of Klink. In fact he, Shatner, and Leonard Nimoy were in one of the best of the early Man From U.N.C.L.E. episodes, "the Project Strigas Affair" -- a kind of proto-Mission: Impossible script. Nah, the world would be a better place if there were more big cats, and fewer people who think they should cuddle with big cats.

Big cats will take care of those knotheads sooner or later.

95 60 Pretty sure Klemperer and Banner were both Jewish. Maybe the guy who played General Burkhalter as well.
Posted by: Oddbob at November 28, 2025 07:01 PM

Leon Askin (general Burkhalter) was also Jewish, and fled Austria in 1940 for the United states, serving as a staff sergeant in what was then called the U.S. Army Air Forces.

96 84, I think you're right.

been many years since I have seen south park, or cared if I did, and they have been doing the exact opposite of motivating me to change that opinion.

98 " I have some water resistant gloves that are ok. If its very cold at all I often step in the house and swap into the warm pair." Posted by: PaleRider

yes, being able to switch into dry gloves seems a best option. Cold and wet is never good, though they say wool (and probably some synthetics) are a decent option. I think I have some thinsolate gloves ... and some thick leather mittens, which are allegedly warmer, somehow.

106 I like thinsulate gloves: lot of dexterity, very warm. If you go to Amazon, they try to sell you everything but thinsulate. It says online you can get them at Tractor Supply. Mine were a gift, so I don’t know where they were purchased.

108 gloves: yes on flexible and not too thick.
I had a pair of those knit gloves, neon green, with the dipped rubber palm, but they were double layered and fairly warm.
I thought they were reasonably water resistant, (for my purposes).
Mrs used them as garden gloves all summer, so I need to get another pair (or two, I like your idea).

109 43 28 Shatner could act, most of his bad rep comes from the terrible third season of Star Trek(when Roddenberry was checked out, Coon was gone and they all knew the show was done). He was in Brothers Karamazov with Yul Brenner as well. From what I recall Klemperer was very anti Nazi and took the Hogan's Hero's part on the condition it would always me them look ridiculous.
Posted by: steevy at November 28, 2025 06:58 PM (YwEeS)

Oh man...did I turn the thread into a Hogan's Hero's/Shatner thread? (Urkel voice...did I do that?)

Shatner did a movie recently as an old guy in Palm Springs who loses his license for racing around...I thought it was ok. Not great.

110 I kind of miss having a cat, but every time I've thought about going to a shelter or someone in neighborhood texts about a cat needing a new home I think 'now is not a great time'

Posted by: PaleRider at November 28, 2025 07:38 PM (hhkIi)

111 I guess it goes with any pet but I think the relationship is much better if you bond with them soon after they are weaned.
Posted by: the way I see it at November 28, 2025 06:48 PM (KDPiq)

You have to become your pet's world. That takes time and interacting with the pet. Didn't get my dog when I was 10 as a puppy, closer to a year, but we still bonded over 'alone' time.

112 I no longer watch much TV. I will watch anime but only series I am interested in. I watch Newsmax for breaking news sometimes.

Posted by: NemoMeImpuneLacessit at November 28, 2025 07:40 PM (gxRWI)

113 108. That is similar to what I have now. I have some with thin fleece lining with the fingers and palm dipped for water resistance. But I manage to get the back of the hands where its only the knit stuff wet fairly often and if it is very cold outside my hands are cold in 20-30 minutes, especially if I'm handling hay that got snowed on. I wear the summer garden gloves for chores and riding 7-8 months of the year. Its probably worth trying the ice fishing or scuba gloves, the amazon AI especially is not a great information source.
