I can fully admit Vertigo is a masterpiece.
No argument there. But if I feel like popping in a Hitchcock movie for fun to pass an evening, it's pretty much always Rear Window! Perfect blend of comedy and suspense. Adore that film so much.

I have to be in the right mindset for Vertigo. While Rear Window I can see anytime.

50 It's so beautiful, especially with its well-preserved architecture.

Distant relatives who left Yugoslavia during the 1990's war and bombings managed to land first in Germany. They loved the country but it offered very few visas and little aid. (It also made religious education (Christianity ) mandatory at that time.)

To the U.S. they came and they also love it here but still talk fondly about the wonderful Christmas villages, education, and hospitals of Germany.

They travel back to the old country on some occasion, often stopping in Germany during their travels.

Unfortunately, I've never visited the country and have always related it to the Nuremberg Trials. Once it was a mandatory watch in high school and with my family during the rare times it was shown on TV.

54 Up above, going to Europe. I have never been, having served in the Corps (back then State Dept duty was about it for Europe). Now I can just go to Dearborn or Minneapolis. I did cook up a plan before I got married. I was going to take a hop out of Andrews to Rhein Main and take a Sabena to Finland, see the country of my ancestors. Dad put the kibosh on that. "Why do you want to go there. We left when I was five and I still remember cold and dark, cold and dark".

55 >>> I've never been to Europe. I guess maybe I missed my chance.

I've been a few times, and there's countries I've always planned to go to I have to realize I may never make it to. Health, life, and finances get in the way. It is what it is.

But a reminder....Europeans and others flock here for our outdoor beauty. There are few countries in the world that can beat us for the scope and depth of our natural landscapes. If you've traveled around America seeing it, you're still incredibly, incredibly blessed.

Also, one of the perks of traveling abroad is just realizing how good we have it at home. Car culture, AC, peanut butter, down home diners, American holidays like the 4th and Halloween...so many things I take for granted as part of my daily life that I realize I'd never want to live without! I am always grateful to get back home after. Anyone who appreciates those things without having to leave the US is way ahead of the game.

I second that. Great casting, direction, and performances.

A small point: I was a cigar smoker when I first saw the movie - something of a connoisseur, as a matter of fact - and when Claude Rains mentioned that he was expecting a delivery of cigars at his tobacconist - "should be about a thousand" - I shook my head in awe and envy.

Time for some to grasp the truth.

No one has a right to visit this country or to immigrate here, the same as every other country in the world. The Left, which aches for America to be like Europe, apparently forgot about the part where Europe wants to know when you are coming AND going. They check your passport entering AND leaving.

91 Worst Hitchcock is Vertigo. Oh people say they like it because it's got Kim Novak looking dreamy, lots of style, slick filming - but it is a stupid, stupid story about a man and a woman who both act extremely stupidly.

When you think about the aftermath, Jimmy Stewart's character is obviously going to prison for life for murdering Kim Novak's character, because no one is going to believe that he dressed her up like a woman he was obsessed with, took her to the place where this woman died, and then she just jumped off without him having anything to do with it.

And he'd already admitted that the only witness who could verify his story was the woman he looks like he just killed.

With the money we spend on infrastructure the streets should be made of gold with diamonds as lane markers. Few, if any, want to go into localities, because people are desperate to believe that the United States features a unitary government.

TX has the best roads, period, because people here and its government demand it. In NY no one apparently cares. The worst airports I have been in are in places like BOS and SFO.

I also forgot the excellent Lifeboat, Dial M For Murder, and Foreign Correspondent. Those are all in my top Hitchcock film list.

123 Two environmental stories at Apple News have an interesting connection. One is about the "galloping Gertie" bridge by Tacoma that collapsed. It's now an artificial reef they are trying to protect from overfishing.

The other was a story on how the great pacific garbage patch is so large, animals species are now making it their home.

In both stories, “It’s good to remember…that the ocean makes everything that ends up in it, its own." And it turns from garbage to a protected area. How soon will the garbage patch be declared a protected wildlife area?

I don't disagree with you about the underlying unbelievability of the story, but would Stewart's character have been accused of her murder? Novak's character didn't just jump, she was spooked by a nun who materialized out of the darkness, lost her balance and fell. I would imagine the nun would have been able to confirm that. Of course, Stewart would have been faced with a very awkward situation, explaining everything to the cops who would have been called to investigate the scene.
