Mazama Energy, on the other hand, just plans to drill a hole - into Newberry Volcano in Oregon. (Yahoo) Down into the depths where the rock reaches temperatures over 600F, so they can pump water down and drive a turbine off the returning steam. The difficulty there is that at temperatures over 700F where the process is most efficient, the drilling equipment tends to go all melty itself. ----- The other problem is that once the heat starts getting harvested from the rocks, the rocks cool down. And, it takes a really long time for more heat to diffuse in. The heat in the rocks is being mined and depleted. Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at November 24, 2025 04:15 AM (VWtfl) 12

Yall been poo pooing me about a self powered neighborhood not happening. re Telling Reddy Kilowatt to hit the road and cheap electricity coming to boot. Well,
. GPT-4o mini Yes, 15 megawatts (MW) can indeed power a neighborhood, and here's how that breaks down: Comparison to Neighborhood Consumption If we revisit the earlier calculation, the average neighborhood might have a continuous power requirement of around 125,000 watts. Using this figure: Calculation for Neighborhood Capacity With 15 MW, you can power: 125,000 watts 15,000,000 watts ≈120 neighborhoods Key Points Capacity: 15 MW is substantial and significantly exceeds the power demand of a single average neighborhood. Peak Demand Consideration: While continuous power is one measure, actual demand can peak during times of high usage (e.g., hot summer afternoons). This capacity would offer ample room to accommodate such peaks for multiple neighborhoods. Conclusion In summary, 15 megawatts can comfortably power around 120 average neighborhoods based on typical energy usage figures. This makes it a strong capacity for residential areas, especially during peak times. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at November 24, 2025 06:14 AM (TiGPW) 59

Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at November 24, 2025 06:14 AM (TiGPW) Sure. 15MW can power several neighborhoods. Now all you need is an area sufficient to place the generator and supporting equipment, agreement from the people living in the neighborhoods to place it near them, personnel to operate the equipment, and the equipment. Can it be done? Yes. Will it be done? Possibly, eventually. Will it be done soon? Unlikely. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at November 24, 2025 06:21 AM (ExV1e) 62

During her April 2019 testimony before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on the rise of hate crimes and white supremacists in the United States, Owens made the claim that the Southern strategy employed by the Republican Party to increase political support among white voters in the South by appealing to racism against African Americans was a "myth" that "never happened". I noticed a few years ago people would write things on discussion forums like “I got electrocuted yesterday”. I’d say “no you didn’t” and they would want to argue. I understand the meaning of words can change, but they probably shouldn’t, and in the case of electrocution it was coined specifically as electricity + execution i.e. dead. It is not a synonym for getting a shock.
