Morning, Art-o-philes,
This is a nicely detailed painting with a lot to pick apart. Or "unpack," as we say today. The textures of the chair and bedside table, the mattress, sheets, and wallpaper, and the women's hair are all fascinating. There's color with the red blanket and the nurse's blonde locks; and the mattress's stripes add interest. It is odd that the girl in the bed is facing the wall instead of having her head closest to it. Wonder why. On the table, I suspect that dark bottle might be some laudanum. My thoughts on seeing the image of this painting:
My parents owned a chair just like that one. I can imagine the side table being moved towards the bed. The artist doesn't want the patient's face visible to the viewer because the face of a sick person would detract from the rest of composition. The subject of the work is the angel of mercy walking through the doorway. She glows, perfectly poised with q cup of goodness in hand. Posted by: mrp at November 28, 2025 09:45 AM (rj6Yv) 59
That's an awfully blank look on the nurse's face.

What an odd painting. So many things are unrealistic.
The door and doorframe, the bed frame, the carpet, the glassware especially that long necked flagon sitting where it could easily be knocked over with no table space for dispensing. The nurse ignoring the patient. Where is she going to set the cup of tea which is not the way tea is served. This painting bothers me. I don't get the point. The art....
The bed is oriented so that the patient faces the wall. The staff can look thru the windows in the door to see if the patient is sleeping. The tallest bottle looks like a wine bottle. The next tallest seems to be a carafe so that's probably water. Small brown bottle is likely laudanum. Nurse/maid is bringing a nice cup of tea. I suspect the patient is recovering from childbirth. The reflection on the side of the carafe is kind of fascinating. Nice one CBD! Posted by: Madamemayhem (uppity wench) at November 28, 2025 10:06 AM (2J/Lj) 110

The nurse/maid's forehead is much paler than the rest of her face. Even if you discount the rouge on her cheeks, her jaw and chin are much redder than her forehead. Perhaps she wears a hat or scarf when she goes out, and the lower part of her face gets the sun while the forehead does not?

In a way, they are correct. We are standing on the outer edge of a very deep rabbit hole. The CIA along with MI6 and other western intel agencies have been building foreign armies for years in countries they are trying to topple. Started during WWII and never ended. They train guys like the DC assassin to fight groups like the Taliban and often leave them behind when we leave. Unfortunately, some times we bring them here. He is far from the only Afghani psychopath that was allowed into the US after Biden's disastrous end to the Afghan war. This is realism but Felix Vallotton became a ‘modernist’ painter later in life. That is why I think his abstract type paintings are good. You have to be a real skilled artist first before you can delve into abstract .

Via Grok:
No, there is no current 5:1 ratio of self-deportations to forced deportations in the USA as of November 28, 2025. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), over 2 million undocumented immigrants have self-deported since the start of the Trump administration in January 2025, while hundreds of thousands have been formally deported through enforcement actions. Earlier DHS data from October 2025 specified 1.6 million self-deportations and over 527,000 forced deportations, yielding a ratio of about 3:1. By mid-November, updated estimates suggest around 2 million self-deportations and approximately 600,000 forced deportations (based on projections and partial fiscal year data), resulting in a ratio closer to 3.3:1. The Patient
Felix Vallotton Features the nape of Helene Chatenay. Very well done but odd, unrealistic. I'd pass hanging this painting. --- Felix Vallotton, World Press dot com, Nov. 28, 2013 Blog dedicated to the Swiss master painter Felix Vallotton Tag Archives: Hélène Chatenay In part, "Based on his numerous nudes, one can surmise that Félix Vallotton loved women – he loved their beauty, their coquetry, even their flaws. But his affection for women never went beyond the canvas. For many years, he led an affair with Hélène Chatenay, who was also his model for several of his paintings. Hélène was very dear and loyal to him, even growing close to the Vallotton family. But as Vallotton was devoted to his craft, not to Hélène, he left her for the elderly widow, Gabrielle Rodrigues. Vallotton didn’t even bother trying to hide his true motives for his engagement to Gabrielle Rodrigues – she came from a distinguished family of wealthy art dealers. When looking at some of works, one can catch a glimpse in his character. Just like in his woodcut Money, converted his romantic affair with a woman into one of financial gain." (More followed.) Problem with Trump unilaterally ending income tax is President AOC could unilaterally bring it back and set the rate at 80%.

If one thinks about it, phrasing the question as "do you know where your next meal will come from" is designed to generate a lot of no answers.
If they were trying to honestly asses whether kids are getting an evening meal they would have a multiple choice. 1. is your after school meal called supper 2. is your after school meal called dinner 3. after school meal is called some thing else, fill in blank 4. I dont eat anything after school Posted by: PaleRider at November 28, 2025 11:06 AM (hhkIi) 286

End Wokeness @EndWokeness Wajahat Ali: "You wanna blame Afghans for this? Then deport all whites. They're mass kiIIers." Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks ---- Google Books: Wajahat Ali is a New York Times Contributing Op-Ed writer, public speaker, recovering attorney and tired dad of two cute kids. For starters, he knows Afghan refers to a nationality, not a race. Afghanistan is a diverse country with many different ethnic groups. But he makes it about race for the low info. civil society "democracy" set. In only about 4 years, +/- 190,000 Afghans - ten to twelve thousand CIA-backed "Zero Units" or "National Strike Units" - and their families were resettled in the U.S. just via Operation Allies Welcome and Operation Enduring Welcome. Lakanwal, an Afghan American wannabe who worked for a CIA unit & - possibly - displayed mental health issues back in Afghanistan, drives across country, shoots National Guardsmen protecting the U.S. Capitol for what? Twisted logic of loyalty to a prior administration or something else? We need to know. Further, of late, even Pakistan expelled Afghan nationals citing security concerns.
