Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Sunday Overnight Open Thread - November 23, 2025 [Doof]![]() Be thankful! This Contest Should Have Been Publicized More Seems like something many of us could be good at! Man Wins ‘Lying Flat’ Contest by Laying on a Mattress for 33 Hours Straight On November 15, 240 gathered at a shopping center in Baotou City, China’s Inner Mongolia province, to take part in an unusual competition inspired by the ‘lying flat’ movement. “Lying flat” is a popular internet slang term in mainland China that describes a lifestyle of giving up on the rat race of reaching societal expectations and instead relaxing and choosing to maintain a minimum standard of living. The rules of the competition were fairly straightforward: contestants needed to lay flat on a mattress, and while they were allowed to roll around on the mattress, read books, eat, or use their smartphones, they were not allowed to get up from the mattress or even use the restroom. The last person to remain lying flat would be declared the winner. Although there was no time limit for the contest, over the first 24 hours, 186 competitors had been eliminated. Those who remained on their mattresses agreed to stricter rules being gradually introduced, and after 30 hours, only a handful of people remained in the competition. At the 33-hour and 9-minute mark, only 3 contestants remained in the lying flat contest. Two minutes later, one was eliminated. The remaining 2 contestants lasted for over 20 minutes, and finally, at 33 hours and 35 minutes, one of them gave up, and the other was pronounced the winner.Do you think you could have lasted longer?
A controversial skincare trend known as the “blood mask” is gaining traction on social media, drawing both curiosity and concern from experts. The practice, also referred to as “menstrual masking,” involves individuals applying their own menstrual blood to their face in hopes of achieving clearer, more radiant skin. Supporters of the blood mask trend claim that menstrual blood contains regenerative components such as stem cells, cytokines, and proteins. These elements are believed to promote collagen production, reduce wrinkles, and accelerate healing. A study published by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) found that menstrual fluid-derived plasma may aid in tissue repair and wound healing more effectively than standard blood plasma.Check out the whole thing. If you dare!

She’s Going to Learn’: 9-Year-Old Texas Girl Flies Through Car Window After Woman Ordered Her to Move Vehicle, Video Shows
A 25-year-old Texas woman is behind bars after authorities say she ordered a 9-year-old girl to drive her car, which crashed and landed the young child in the hospital with serious injuries. Home surveillance video footage caught the car swiftly skidding down a street in reverse with the driver’s side door open. Police say the child was flung out of the car when it suddenly crashed into a neighbor’s car. https://is.gd/5LsqWr Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Why Do the Heathen Rage? at November 23, 2025 10:08 PM (L/fGl) 6

You know... there's a big difference between stem cells in blood plasma being INSIDE the body/veins, and putting it on the OUTSIDE of your skin. I don't think stem cells are going to do much regenerating sitting on the outside of a layer of dead skin cells (the epidermis) where there's no nourishment and such.

Oddbob: there's a great story about how Sinatra was *pissed* doing the now-famous song, "That's Life."
Frank had an appointment and was itching to go, but his producer said the original take wasn't great. He didn't mouth off but Frank literally stormed back into the studio for the second, nailed it, and was out the door three seconds after tape stopped rolling. The earlobes curl up on themselves in a hideous manner. He accented this with huge fake zirconia studs and I could not focus on whatever socialist crap came out of his mouth. I literally wanted to run home like Forest Gump and informed my husband and sons that I was done. No more. I was so tense afterwards I felt like I'd had a root canal vs going to a dinner party. So a coworker of my sisters' put us on a list to receive a Thanksgiving food bag without realizing that we had already bought the three little things we would be having. With just the two of us now and we don't eat a lot of food, we just had some tiny fixings in the freezer.
We received the food bag today with a big frozen turkey, bags of potatoes and sweet potatoes, a huge apple pie and all the fixings for green bean casserole. Way too much for just the two of us, especially the whole turkey. We called our neighbor up who is around 80 and asked if he and his family could use some Thanksgiving food. We gave him the turkey and sweet potatoes tonight and will deliver the green beans and pie tomorrow if he can use those. What was strange is that included in this food bag were two bags of cat treats. The coworker said she didn't tell the organizers anything about cats. So either someone involved knew us or when they came around this afternoon and saw cats in the window, they went back to the store and bought our cats the treats. Very sweet. From what I've gathered after a friend died of cancer, back pain can be a warning sign for pancreatic cancer which has a high -- and quick -- mortality rate. My friend had back pain, saw a doctor. Nothing, 'here, take this'. Pain kept up, saw another doctor and pancreatic cancer. Gone in two months.

Not that I didn't see them, but they were sooo collectable they were always stoooopid money. He found one, and of all places in my home town were I grew up for 1/4 of the price they go for. They used to give it away, PVC too. Nutz. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at November 24, 2025 02:47 AM (UamXc) Can you scoop some from a building demo site? Or buy used at the Habitat Re-Store? Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 24, 2025 02:53 AM (npFr7) 444
No Habitat resale stores and zip new construction, commercial or residential. There is a scrap good size scrap iron place. They are usually OK people. They may have something I can use or point me in a direction.

421 My favorite episode was the one when Barney Fife discovered that Floyd the Barber had been murdering travelers for years along a lonely stretch of highway outside of Mayberry and Barney had to use his one bullet to bring Floyd in. Watching Floyd get the electric chair may have been the single most gratifying minute of TV before Family Feud came to air.

126 Orange, yup. And in my mind, Burl singing Christmas tunes doesn't make sense. I always wanna ask him "aren't you the guy who supported Soviet communism? What you wanna celebrate Christmas for? Thought you were atheists. Do you think Karl Marx is gonna come down the chimney?" SMRs (Small modular reactors) appear to be a proven technology, have a small ground footprint, and install relatively easily.
