Hola horde! Best wishes and prayers up to all the great horde today. Happy to report there were no actual knife fights at Thanksgiving and everyone seemed pretty joyful, as befits them honestly, given how lucky we are to be Americans, relatively healthy (but for a couple of cancers) and the younger generation seems unscathed so far by the teachers union.

Thank you all for the prayers for my aunt who had stopped treatment for cancer two weeks ago. The good Lord had a plan and my aunt passed away early Friday morning. Taught at a Catholic school for over 20 yrs , raised three beautiful daughters and had eight grandchildren. It is a blessing to have him still alive and kicking at 83, and we talk just about every other day about things. He's very chatty now, and his lost his old stoic reserve, especially around his great-grandkids. He did doze off in the comfy chair after his meal, which we took for a compliment. Nobody can name the victim that Huey Newton killed. The victims don’t matter. The Narrative is what matters. We had to put him in in nursing home simply because he required daily monitoring and care. We visited him frequently. The Old Man and I became much closer (we were never estranged -- just too much alike: both Type A personalities that were frequently correct, but lacking in tact) after Mom died. Thanksgiving was a bit quieter than usual. We missed my mom, who died in July, and my guy and my niece weren't able to get here. But we enjoyed being together as we always do. My gingerbread cake turned out pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Today I'm fixing a yuge pot of chili & beans and a couple of my cousins are coming over after the Clemson-Carolina game.

I guess it's not Movie Thread Saturday this week, so-
There's an interesting new series on Apple TV titled- "Pluribus". It's from the same guy that did "Breaking Bad" Slight Spoiler: It starts out as happy fun "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" but is getting progressively darker as the main character learns more. Very cleverly written as you might expect. Well-acted and directed. Minimal plot stupidity which would get into major spoilers so I won't discuss them. Minor downside in that the main character is a lesbian but they honestly have really made much of it and it doesn't really affect things so far. Well worth giving a view. Speaking of saints, there is a Catholic and I think Orthodox tradition of picking a personal payron saint.
With Catholics, this is done at Confirmation, which typically happens at age 12 or so, but can happen at adult confirmations. The idea is to pick a saint whose virtues and life you want to emulate and be inspired by. Easy enough as a kid to make a choice, but as a 29+er it actually seems more challenging. If today, you were asked, what saint or historical figure (if you don't hold with saints) would you pick to be an inspiration for you daily? You are both right. This is not the first time. I am a,ways surprised when it happens kind of out of the blue. I am liking more and more sending something to the party. Maybe Risk for the older kids and Monopoly Jr for the younger ones. Maybe some chocolate. This kind of bypasses the sister who cut me off because party is at othr sister's house.
