The Classical Saturday Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

IMNWE0y4uL6KQuXT.png

[H/T Blake]

*****

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in New Ulm)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice. Not just a suggestion.
3) Running with sharp objects is frowned upon.
4) Have a great weekend and a Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday.

*****

“God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next. Amen.”

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

9/28 - Teresa in Fort Worth gave an update: It has been 1 year since Teresa started “down the cancer rabbit hole”. She sends her thanks for the prayers as they have buoyed her and her family through this year. She has been blessed to exceed the original 6-12 months predicted, by the grace of God – and the prayers of many people. Her next CT scan is in November, and the surgeon is pretty sure that her tumors will be small enough to remove/destroy.
11/10 Update – Everything is fine, but it looks like the cancer is starting to figure out a way around the medication – something they knew would probably happen around this time in the protocol. More news will be coming soon – possibly surgery in late Dec/early Jan.
11/14 Update – Surgery is scheduled for 12/11. She should be able to travel for Christmas.

10/2 – Bluebell passed along an update: grammie winger sends her gratitude for all the prayers – she feels they are working. On Oct 6 she will be starting a cancer treatment program because her doctors are “cautiously optimistic” that they can give her some more time. Monday she gets the port, followed by 6 hours of chemo infusion on Tuesday. The Rev is doing better because now he has some hope. Please pray for her as she starts this treatment program because in her words, “prayer changes things”.
10/18 Update – grammie winger sent an update, that she has had her first chemo treatment. There were no side effects. She noted “God is very kind.”
11/8 Update – grammie winger posted that chemo is “kicking my butt and it’s hard to think”.

10/4 – Skip requested prayers for his dad, who fell at church back in August, hitting his head. He fell again at home and has had back pain since then. He is going in for more tests on 10/8.
10/11 Update – Dad has a brace to wear and has pain medication, so is doing OK for now. He will need an outpatient procedure soon for an injection in his spine to fill a void. Continuing prayers will help.
10/18 Update – Dad is in the hospital, needing some blood clots cleared up, and will soon have the outpatient operation for his back.
10/25 Update – Dad was released from the hospital and is in a rehab center near his home.

10/22 – Pennsyltucky requested prayers for his dad, who underwent cancer surgery on 10/21. Everything seems to have gone well (they’re confident they got it all!) but due to his age, his hospital stay and convalescence will be longer than usual. Dad is doing well, is awake and alert. A full recovery is anticipated but it will take a while. Thank you so much.
11/6 Update – Pennsyltucky’s dad is out of the hospital and is now convalescing at home with the aid of home care nurse visits. He’s not able to walk very well, having spent so long in a hospital bed, but he’s in good spirits and improving daily. Thanks for your prayers!

10/25 – M&B would like prayers for M's sister. Suddenly, she got dizzy, and with no other symptoms, was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. Surgeons said that they were able to remove most of it but gave her an 18-24 month survival. She's just finished the first round of chemo and radiation, and she just feels awful. She has that "deer in the headlights" look, since this all happened so fast, with no real symptoms! M&B have been searching through all the recent news about other medicinal options that are working for this type of cancer. We are grateful for all prayers!

10/25 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for her retired organist Jessie, whose dear daughter, S, died of cancer recently. Also prayers for Korean War vet, R, who has cancer and is not expected to live long.

10/27 – Polliwog the ‘Ette asked for prayers for her youngest daughter, "LK", who needs prayers for safety and peace, and her best friend "C" for health and that stress not cause a flare up of psoriatic arthritis as they and another roommate work with the police and the landlord to have the 4th roommate "M" evicted because she is threatening them and making the living situation a nightmare. “M” is bipolar and medicating with alcohol. Prayers for her healing and that she find salvation from the self-destructive path she's on would also be appreciated.
11/8 Update – The situation still needs lots of prayer. LK sand C have been staying at a hotel to avoid M, who wants to fight whenever she sees them. M is supposed to move out the end of Dec. but that seems like a very long time when C still needs to attend class and keep her arthritis in check.

11/5 – Mary Poppins’ Practically Perfect Piercing said he could use a prayer or two. He has a pain in her head which, it seems, is occipital neuralgia. It’s not fatal, thank heavens, but is painful until a proper treatment course is settled upon. Many thanks.
11/12 Update – Pronouns corrected above.

11/6 - D sent an update on his wife Susan, and her battle with cancer. He sent his thanks to everyone for the prayers. They are helping and much appreciated. Susan had an infection which is being treated, but her sodium levels are bad again. She will be sent home soon, but is on restrictive fluids until this is cleared up. The good news is that she has gained some weight back and her voice is much stronger now. Thank you, and please keep up the prayers. They appreciate everyone!
11/20 Update – Susan is out of the hospital, after 2 weeks. For the first time in months, she doesn’t have any drainage tubes. Chemo is on hold for the next 2 weeks, to give her time to rest, recover, and gain some weight back. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers – please continue them!

11/7 – BarelyScaryMary requested prayers for a friend, RJ, who is having heart issues. She will likely get stents or a bypass soon. Prayers are needed for RJ’s recovery, and also that she is able and willing to make the lifestyle changes necessary for her health.
11/13 Update – Stents were not an option for RJ, so she needs a bypass. She is waiting for the surgery to be scheduled. She is apprehensive about the surgery and recovery. Prayers are also needed for BarelyScaryMary’s dad, who is also having heart problems. Her mom could use prayers, too, as she is watching her husband of 60 years decline.

11/8 – Dash my lace wings had an urgent request for prayers for a co-worker and friend who is hospitalized with sepsis. It is extremely resistant to antibiotics and has attached to the artificial heart valve she got less than a year ago. Her situation is tenuous.
11/15 Update – The co-worker is healing. She was released from the hospital and is on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. Thank you for your prayers. We nearly lost her.

11/8 – Farmer Bob asked for prayers for his Uncle Richard’s MIL who passed away on 11/7, and for Richard’s wife Linda. Linda’s putting on a brave face and it was not unexpected, but it’s hard to lose your mother.

11/14 – Halfhand requested prayers for a sister whose husband recently passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. They had just upended their lives to move from California to Tennessee; now she is all alone.

11/15 – Smell the Glove asked for prayers for an 81 year-old aunt who has colon cancer. She is stopping chemo, since it’s not working and it’s tiring her out. Doctors will determine if any other treatment is proper.

11/15 – Sponge posted an update on the “First lady”. She is doing OK from the surgery pain-wise, however it appears her compromised immune system from chemo is susceptible to viruses. She has been spiking a fever all weekend.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

8 I know that the poster is trying to be funny, (insert gratuitous laugh) but caffeine is never a part of a standard 5/10 panel or DOT drug panel.

Given that its approximately 2-5 mg/L per cup (adjust for body weight and time) it would take hundreds of milligrams (way far more than anyone would drink in coffee) to show up in a toxicology report.

Move over, Obama. Your lies about Obamacare have been eclipsed by Google's AI infrastructure head Amin Vahdat's statements on expanding server capacity.

I wonder if Amin Vahdat's statement was informed by Google's own AI. How does it account for the fact that US can never generate enough electricity to power even the less optimistic growth demands of datacenters?

Clearly, AI is going to China. There is zero doubt in my mind that the US and Europe has self-gassed themselves into obsolescence and third world status. Basically a welfare state with a large military.

Its physics. Dialing back expectations of the entire industry is the only reasonable course - I'm assuming that the hype is mainly just to attract retail investors into throwing their money into the burn pile so that the ground floor investors won't lose their pile.

25 I question whether folks really love Classical Music. If so, why has no one-in over 200 years-not finished Schubert's Unfinished Symphony No. 8 for him. Seems to me it's just the neighborly thing to do. If my neighbor's lawn mower blew up with just a little patch of his lawn left, I would surely finish it up for him.

27 "I have good news! At my appointment Monday the Doctor said my bloodwork is nearly perfect and my cancer cell count is dropping. I'm in minimal pain. The chemo is working thanks be to God! I will go back in three weeks for another round of chemo and then they will do a CT scan to see if I can have surgery to clean out the rest of the tumors. I am convinced - CONVINCED - that this is due in no small part to the treasured prayers of friends and family! They gave me weeks, and now I'm looking at possible remission."

29 Two months after surgery and I’m gradually starting to feel normal again. The main problem is that the effects of the anesthesia are still suppressing my appetite. I’m down to what I weighed when I was 19. A couple of days agai I started taking THC gummies and that is helping. The only downside is that I’m now wearing tie dyed shirts and bell bottoms.

Prayers up even for all "our" politicians who have decided that the 10% graft and power are far more desirable than honor or integrity, may they see the error of their ways and repent before it is too late for all of us!

And lastly, prayers up for our President Trump, keep him safe from harm and may the many forces of evil arrayed against him and our country be made ineffective and come to naught!

My wife had used medibles for a while, and they did lower body inflammation and improve sleep for a while (she took them at bedtime) but some weeks ago, she got the munchies and ate things on the forbidden list and was in the ER the next day due to icky things I won't mention here.

She got antibiotics, that cleared up things but opened the door to worse things, and now we're awash in appointments.

Stay off drugs, kids!

81 Morning again, coffee mainliners,

My coffee this morning, again, is the Cafe El Morro espresso blend that Aldi sells. It's $3.25 in my neck of the woods for 8.8 oz., so $7.50 for a bit more than a pound. A much better deal than the $12 per 8-12 oz. for bigger names, or specialty blends like the ones at World Market.

I smoked a pipe as well, half of it before breakfast and half after. Now, shaved and dressed, I have about forty minutes before I have to head out for haircut and a library visit.

Sounds like AI is self-correcting.

I was all excited that AI would be a glorified search engine, where if I came up with the right prompts would get useful results. It seems that it gets its training like college students today - from completely failed and irresponsible sources.

So AI isn't reliable, it can't be fed good energy, good data or good algorithms; because of the high duty cycles, the equipment failure rate requires high frequency replacement; no one wants to have a DC in their neighborhood, nor compete with the DC for land, energy and water, but if a DC gets past all of those barriers, then it has to be staffed by anyone other than foreigners - oh, and we need billions of dollars and contract commitments in order to fund it.

This is my chief complaint about the over-reliance on AI.

In my mind it should be an augmentation to our thinking. As a person with ADHD, I accomplish far more by directing minions/agents to do the linear thinking while I perform the non-linear thinking and delegate the mundane, templatized tasks.

While there are people who thrive on repetition and implementing well thought out tasks, there are not enough of them (ergo H1Bs).

While in the Tech Thread, a commentor reported that Grok was able to perform complex maths, AI doesn't have and never will have Wisdom for Wisdom is of divine origin and the spirit world doesn't inhabit silicon.

Since AI can not value nor recognize Truth, it will forever be handicapped and be like fire - useful only when contained by those with wisdom and discernment.

There is a bit more to it than that. But yes,it is a bubble right now, but there are some useful things going on as well as not so useful things.

Machine learning aka pattern recognition works decently when the particular training datasets and the model is focused on a particular field that can be summarized by 'tokens' and probability. I think it can work decently on for example summarizing a massive law, a body of literature, etc.

There could be some errors when someone familiar with the field notices it but it works okay if you are willing to tolerate 10 percent crap and 90 percent useful in these cases. It does not work for the ignorant very well or the lazy but as a first draft it is fine. Something similar with coding

One of the things my wife (raised Southern Baptist) likes about the Church is the structure of the Mass. You always know exactly where you are, and can anticipate what is happening next, so the only uncertainty is the length of the homily, which can only vary so much.

Tomorrow they are holding a candlelight Mass in the evening and we will be attending. It's at the student location and very well attended. Lots of young people showing up.

My wife has observed that the number of women wearing veils is increasing, and it's all younger folks. She was at a senior Mass (all Boomers) and she was the only one wearinng one. I think a lot of the drama over TLM is Boomers with axes to grind about the old days. At the same time, I have an uncle who broke from the Church over Vatican II and is now agnostic.

Source reliability is where you start to get the problems with an algorithm--are conservative sites 'reliable' (leftist rating companies cheerfully tell AI companies NO! for example). Basically AI is like a precocious kid that reads a lot but has no experience in the real world so what the kid tells you depends on what books it read. A human professional in a field has to look over the work who can tell what is missing, what is fake, and what is a gray area. AI today has no such filters other than human corrections (if they take those into account when conducting queries--part of which is why those are 'free' so far for some. They want unpaid work to correct their models.

133 Tracey Lochner wearing a see-through, sheer blouse to school in 8th grade was a highlight. She got sent home quickly.

Unless Tracey failed a lot, a 13 year old generally doesn't have control of a credit card or have an independent income stream.

That means that a parent thought it was perfectly fine to buy that blouse for Tracey and to let her leave the house that morning wearing it.

But what is also disturbing is the whole supply chain, from designer, manufacturer, merchandiser, purchaser and manager of the store who thought it would be a good selling product targeting children.

I went to a very large church with my friend’s parents. My parents were God loving Christian but didn’t attend any church and encouraged me to make my own decisions.

When I publicly accepted Christ ( I had already done it personally long before) it was hard for a kid to walk in front of hundreds of people with all eyes on you. It took me a good while before I just sucked it up and did it.

It was interesting when Trump began posting Marian devotions and Catholic prayers on his social media account last year to see how many people lost their minds over it.

I think that in turn caused a lot of reluctant Catholics to finally ignore the bishops and take a chance on Trump, because whatever his flaws, he was going to stop Biden's persecution of the Church.

The US Bishops have beclowned themselves on immigration (yet again) but this time we have a Pope willing to offer clarification and correction: Nations may set borders and enforce them. Open borders are right out.

I think the key to Pope Leo is that he values tradition and continuity, and so he will not repudiate anything his predecessor did, but he will change it. Thus, Traditiones Custodes will not be rescinded, but he will make blanket dispensations to the point where it becomes a dead letter.

First, there is no AGI-aka Artificial General Intelligence yet which would be 'conscious'. Such a computer would be "Mike" in the Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein. Most of what we consider AI is pattern recognition which relies on probability distributions of 'tokens'. The 'tokens' vary by field--visual--it would be a 'pixel', a 'color', etc. Sound, it would a 'frequency', a 'note', a 'word (if lyrics)', a 'rhyme'. Note that all of these can work on a probability function to predict for example the color of a pixel next to a green one in the abstract AI command of "make me a tree in summer". Or make me a country song (Billy Joel once pissed off people by noting country songs are relatively simple melodically and lyrically). That uses a 'chord or note' and figures out probability wise using previous songs what the next pleasing 'chord or note' will be. Ditto with lyrics (rhyming dictionaries anyone?).

As parents, we put these firmly in place, and our kids seem much better off than we were. I think one of the reasons it took so long for me to truly come to God was that I had so much poison in my brain, and was incapable of identifying it.

Sad to say that HA ran a piece yesterday saying “if you live in Chicago, Move Out ASAP!!” The piece made the case quite eloquently and convincingly.
It’s always extremely hard to move and abandon an old life - but you’re essentially a Jew in 1936 Berlin now. A lot of them thought it was too hard to move, also.

Posted by: Tom Servo at November 22, 2025 09:39 AM (/ZNPI)

154 To continue, a perfect example of machine learning pattern recognition is IBM's 'Watson' which defeated grandmasters in chess because chess with each of its pieces following rules in movement and a specified size gameboard can be boiled down to bounded probabilities as to the optimum winning strategy based on the other side's moves.

Where it would fall flat would be an analysis of a war between the US and China in 2028. It could give analysis (but those probabilities themselves would be based on human analysis thus fallible), it would run the same risk that human analysis does because what is an unknown factor is still unknown, and so on. Some like VDH could give analysis based on whatever data existed along with experience of previous conflict analysis but a machine would be dependent on low confidence probabilities and likely to go astray without expert human correction. So in complex situations, AI can be a helper to humans with expert knowledge but not an independent expert itself.

Their parents knew a time before antibiotics when minor injuries could kill you. They lived through war, economic devastation and pestilence. Their kids grew up in relative peace and unprecedented prosperity, and they deeply resented the silly walls put up around them, and dedicated their lives to tearing them down.

This is why there is a bit of generational warfare, because their children are now at a point where they have enough life experience to compare their decisions with their parents' as well as their grandparents' and it isn't a good look.

It's not a spoiled kid demanding more treats (which is what is usually claimed) but parents realizing just how messed up their own childhood was in terms of morals, boundaries and rampant divorce saying "What were you thinking?! You had paradise and threw it away! Your parents sacrificed for you and you spit on them, hating everything they stood for!"

I’ve been thinking along these lines lately, but in terms of cities and nations. We’ve witnessed a great worldwide boom time since WW2 ended (for us, all of our lifetimes) and most don’t realize that’s now over, at least for some, not all. Nations are no longer going to be insulated from the cost of their bad decisions, and neither will cities. Detroit, for example, has already died, and although it’s recovered a bit, it will never be more than a shadow of what it once was. Many American cities are headed down the same path.

I think he expected me to sympathize since I was known to peruse the magazine due to his subscription, but I said I agreed with her. "It's your money, but it was her house, and she controls what goes into it. If my kids bring smut into the house, I'm throwing it out, too!"

I think he felt his parents' faith was smothering, constraining him. What he didn't understand was that having no constraints is much, much worse. Where are the lines? What is permitted? How do I know what is right and what is not?

The worst fate of all is for no one to lift a finger while the nation just grinds down into a total collapse, as happened to the USSR. The three nations I named are all on that glide path now, and I believe each of them has now crossed a point of no return - collapse is now inevitable for each of them.

A thought experiment:

Billy Graham popularized something in the 1950s that was called "ecumenical evangelism" which was to bring in Roman Catholics into the Wild West of Evangelicalism under the premise that the unchurched could be manipulated into The Kingdom if the right words and emotional atmosphere was present in large crowds.

The Catholic clergy and lay leaders saw the remarkable success in the numbers coming forward and saw that people were more interested in Big Box's Wham Bam Jesus Jam (that and Boomer/Hippie movement to syncretize sexualized secularism into the Church) that the competition required a reaction

And that is how Vatican II began: Aggiornamento meant "keeping up with the Big Box Joneses"

One of the joys of being a junior NCO was that you were now qualified to be a monitor for Operation Golden Flow, aka the Wiz Quiz.

This also meant one had to become something of a Piss Whisperer since many men cannot relieve themselves under observation. I know, shocking for anyone who his written his name in the snow, but it's a thing. Flushing toilets, keeping a light stream of water flowing in the sink and - at last resort - describing waterfalls, bubbling streams, gushing rivers in full flood - were enough to induce most sufferers to fill the damn jar and let me get to back to work.

200 The worst fate of all is for no one to lift a finger while the nation just grinds down into a total collapse, as happened to the USSR.

It is inevitable. Human Nature. The US is doomed to the exact same fate. It is inescapable outside of the mother of all Great Revivals.

The American Experiment demands a self-regulating, faith based population. And by faith, I'm talking the One True Faith of Christianity.

When the inevitable occurs, the US doesn't just disappear, the smoldering ruins and the miserable population (to some degree) still remain, it just forms into warring factions led by charismatic war lords - as has ALL civilizations has been doing.

The US CAN NOT continue as a Constitutional Republic because it doesn't have a sustainable saturation of morally sufficient citizens to override the demonic impulses of the general population.

Kids continually test boundaries as they grow up, and they unconsciously want them confirmed. The harder they push, the more they need reassurance. It was interesting when my eldest reached the point where she understood what was going on and flipped from being the ringleader of rebellion to my chief enforcer, to the utter amazement of her sisters.

202 Their parents knew a time before antibiotics when minor injuries could kill you.

I would argue the demonic impulses aren't coming from the general poopulation, but from the so-called leaders in multiple fields, who abdicated the responsibilities, who manipulated for their own ends, who have so corrupted themselves that it inevitably infects the weaker and more vulnerable people, who would otherwise just go about living "normal" lives.

We are doomed, because the power of man, as it always does, corrupts. From the top down.

207 I’ve been thinking along these lines lately, but in terms of cities and nations.

History of archaeology shows us that cities (and nations themselves) rise and then fall and sometimes rise again if the external factors that led it to rise in the first place are still there. We have no reason to assume that our current modern era is an exception to the rule.

I try not to yell at my kids much, and save that for when it really matters - I don't want it to lose its impact.

But I have noticed with my youngest a certain pattern of behaviors where, when she's doing it, it's because she *wants* to be yelled at. When I see her going down that road, I just pretend to get mad and I yell at her, and she immediately stops whatever it is, pretends to cry for five seconds, apologizes, and then trots off to her toys and starts giggling the moment she thinks I'm not listening.

She's just looking for boundaries and it's comforting for her to find them. I wasn't like that as a kid, so it took me awhile to recognize it, but that seems to be the psychological thing at play with her.

Have your prostate checked. A prostate sizing (to check for enlargement) is fairly easy to do with ultrasound test. Sometimes then the problem actually can be bladder obstruction etc. The scope inserted up the penis is uncomfortable to check for that but not as horrible as people like to make out. Better than Foley catherization for a long time.

220 I would argue the demonic impulses aren't coming from the general poopulation, but from the so-called leaders in multiple fields,

There is a social zeitgeist - that is, a "spirit of the age" and not just the materialist's idea of "spirit", but a prevalent spiritual domination.

Consider that maybe 5% of the population is even aware of the activities of Babylon DC or City Hall, most people can't name but two or three SCOTUS jurists, a very significant portion of the population, for decades could not name the vice president, can't enumerate the branches of government; a majority has never read the Constitution, the DoI or even a paragraph of any Federalist Papers.

That is, the single black mother of 9 kids who twerks for attention in TikTok doesn't get her orders from Babylon DC, she and her cohort work to game the system as it is to exploit and extract the most money as possible. That is it for political involvment. Everything else is rather lizard brained in meeting felt needs.

Low creatinine count will force a retake. Worse, some employers consider it the same as a hot UA, on the assumption you're deliberately diluting the sample to cover up drug use.
