American Revolution, Final Episode. The war continues in the South with advances by the Brits and slow progress in return for the patriots. Benedict Arnold turns traitor and becomes a Brit general. New York continues to be a Brit stronghold. The French return as an army and the navy comes back from the Caribbean. Cornwallis makes the ultimate mistake of holing up in Yorktown where he is forced to surrender under the French army, the French navy and the patriots. A lot of time was spent regarding the outcome for former and present slaves. Some went free, some back to slavery. The indians got the short end from everyone. Cont.

The now free states devolve into gross violence in some, desire to form new states. Washington is elected President unanimously. A tomcat I once had would go across the street to sleep under a cedar tree. Branches close to the ground and the cedar leaves were soft. A safe place to nap.
Once I saw him limping, dragging a leg while walking this way. Thought he was injured, but he was just trolling an old Yellow Lab from down the street to see if he would get chased, knowing he could outrun/out climb the doggie. Thought that showed some intelligence and it was kind of on my level. Posted by: Assistant Troll at November 21, 2025 10:26 PM (oftw2) 80

Posted by: Helena Handbasket at November 21, 2025 10:25 PM (ULPxl) What kind of truck? Step one, add a bottle of automatic transmission treatment to the transmission. I have a cardiac echo on Monday to see if there's a new problem. Since my little syncope show last Sunday, at church with an audience because I don't do anything half way. I am paranoid. I am never paranoid nor given to panic. This means I am old and ignored the fainting signal like an idiot.
Entertained some EMT's who said everything was normal, which is a feat and cause for celebration. Son made me see my doc this week. Scared my grands, which broke my heart in pieces. I will heed the warning in the future (I feel hot when it's not hot).Rare. Told my husband about my panic and he had me walk around the park today to prove that I am not dying (yet). And we will sit in the back of the church on Sunday to be safe, with a bottle of water in my purse. Here I was very happy that the holidays are upon us. Carefree. Oh, no, said the doctors. You need this to finish out your wonky year! While I hope all is normal and just one of my bi-decade faints, I also hope the cardiologist is busy til 2026. I have no symptoms and was dehydrated like last time. And I don't like early mornings with crap sleep. Plus being stupid. Very stupido to "push through." I just felt hot for 15min and knew better to ignore this, as it happened 4yrs ago with similar feelings. The first time I got the full ED work up of brain and heart. I was found to have both that were normal. When the first people asked me questions and I answered fine and included that I was mortified, I passed the tests and got wheeled into the church library. Then I began the apology tour of apologizing to EMT's and anyone who looked at me. Some days I should just stay in bed. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at November 21, 2025 10:43 PM (WONhk) 131

Sometimes an engineering company will take over a generic office building to corral their engineers. The issue is that offices are designed for normal humanity, roughly 50/50 men vs women. But engineering is something north of 90% men.
The fix is generally to take about 2/3rds of the women’s bathrooms and convert them to men’s. This results in some awkward moments. M and W are often grouped so you’ll get ladies accidentally walking into the M next to the other M. My first time I walked in, noticed no urinals, just stalls, stepped into a stall & took care of business. Turning around I noted a hook near the bottom of the stall door. “Hmm, what’s that, to hang something, a purse maybe… OH SHIT.” I tried stealthily running out. But double checked the sign and it was men’s. Posted by: banana Dream at November 21, 2025 10:44 PM (3uBP9) 135

Sons laughed that I was immediately concerned if my underwear was showing when they flung me in the wheelchair across a pew. My second thought of vanity was when the EMT's put leads on my ankles that I had not put lotion on my legs that morning. Posted by: qdpsteve ------ One place I worked at had a sorta neat way to prevent really embarrassing incidents. The restrooms had a little vestibule as you opened the door. The men's room was painted a light blue, and the ladies was painted pink. This really didn't help for visitors, but employees absorbed this unconsciously. When you pushed open the door, the "wrong" color woke up people running on automatic. This was needed because, for some reason I never determined, in one building the men's was the left of two adjacent doors on the first floor, and on the right on the second floor. She added that she wasn't speaking to either her daughter or grandson . She wasn't a nice lady.

239 Christy, I played clarinet from 6th through 12th grade. Not quite as loud as a trumpet, I suppose.
Posted by: BarelyScaryMary at November 21, 2025 11:29 PM (ys6FW) No, the woodwinds aren't bad for others to hear when learning. The trumpet, though! Both of our sons are very good musicians, altho only one became professional briefly. I figured he'd end up busking in the NYC subways, but he got another degree like his brother and father. On the home stretch with the stereo install into the Avanti. Rear speakers mounted, and wire run from there up to the console, where the receiver unit is located. Front speakers mounted in the removable carpeted side panels of the console, and short pigtails on the speaker terminals. All that's left is to connect the various wires to the harness plug for the receiver: 8 speaker wires, always hot, key-on hot, ground, and antenna. And all those are available in the console area, or very near.

Posted by: BarelyScaryMary at November 22, 2025 12:18 AM (ys6FW) I always wanted to stop, but since I'm like 3 frigging AUs from the mome the timing never works out. When I used to drive straight through I would be passing the pyramid in the wee hours. Now that I break up the drive, I don't hit my first stop in ketucky until around 10-11pm, and from there I don't get to the mome area until around 9-10pm, and I usually hit the mome site first thing just to drop off things before hitting the hotel. Any delay along the way just screws up the timing. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at November 22, 2025 12:39 AM (snZF9) 337

I have a string of 50 Christmas lights around a large mirror in my living room. They have been on 24/7 since Thanksgiving 2007. The only time they have been off is when there is a power outage. None of the bulbs have burnt out.
Posted by: Let The Lower Lamps Be Burning ----- Incandescent bulbs, no doubt. Under the heading "now you tell.me", or, "a little late, there buddy".... Incandescent lifetime is highly determined by the voltage they are operated at. Of course, so is light output, so that lights that are used for illumination can't be operated at lowered voltage because that affects their utility. Decorative bulbs, OTOH, can have their lifetime extended by dropping the incoming voltage. A 5% drop in voltage will drop brightness by about 15-20%, but double the lifetime. If there was a screwup.in manufacturing, and you actually have a 51or 52 light string, this might explain it. Or, it just might mean that you got an bunch of exceptionally lomg.lived bulbs. I remember reading about a bulb over the stage door of a theater in Ft Worth that, except for power outages and blackouts during WWII, had been burning for over a hundred years. When I had the job... we used a UV-cured sealant on the primers, typically for "clean fire" products, but also for some foreign-bound or specialty products that had regular primers.
Clean fire priming mix was hygroscopic, so needed to be sealed from moisture. A ring of tarry substance was applied inside the case mouths, to prevent moisture entry around the lead. A drop of UV-cured sealant was applied to the primer/case head, to prevent entry around the primer. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 22, 2025 01:21 AM (npFr7) One time I was on a cruise, I think we stopped at puerto rico. I went into a liquor store and was looking around. The dude who works there starts talking to me. one thing leads to another and suggests something that you can't get in the states. he shows me a bottle with an elephant on the label with the big ears, and what looks like some kind of fruit at his feet. The stuff was called Amarula, and you can actually get it here now. I said whats the deal with this? He tells me it's a fruit that grows wild, and they never did anything with it, but it would ferment, the elephants would eat it, get twisted, and then go stampede villages, so now they cultivate it so it don't lay around for the elephants to get it. I said just for that story alone I'm buying it. lol Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at November 22, 2025 01:41 AM (snZF9) 424
