Return to Witch Mountain Cafe

Witch Mountain, Sedona, AZ

Here's the trailer for Escape from Witch Mountain (1975). This is the movie where I first saw Kim Richards and I was allowed to have a crush on her because I was younger than she was. I also think this movie started the trope, which we'd see continued in the Wonder Twins, where the sister has an awesome power and the boy can turn into a bucket of lukewarm water or form the shape of a puddle. I think the boy in this had the amazing power of... playing a f***in' flute without his hands or something. Meanwhile the girl can PK an RV over a f***in' canyon like a psychic Evel Knievel. #WOKE

The Cloudflare outage has been traced to its source, and of course it's exactly who you think it was.

Florida Weather is f***ed up, too.

Hast thou seen the white whale?

Dogs showing off ninja stealth skillzzz.

Not in front of the other employees, Gertie!

My eyes and heart say "real" but my brain says "AI."

Roast duck. (Or penguin?)

Bears are begging us to domesticate them already.

For ten seconds I was certain I was looking at a woman. Now I realize I'm a furry.

Border collies never leave work back at the office.

Dog is so happy to be adopted.

Big tough doberman is a scaredy-cat for the rain.

The heart wants what it wants.

Christmas is coming, and the true enemies of Christmas are in training.

Puppy grows up to be a big strong dog but he still wants to lay his head down on his mommy.

Really good wingsuit video:

Life on Mars, specifically the Viking experiments is being revisited:

https://is.gd/iM4VAc

The Viking landers had several experiments designed to look for signs of microbial life -- basically metabolic processes. Several of them had positive results, but that was dismissed as likely abiotic, due to the absence of organic molecules. There was some chlorine compounds there, but they decided those were contamination from the landers themselves.

Well, they now know their are organics on Mars, including those chlorine compounds.

Anyway, one of the lead scientists on one of the experiments, Gil Levin, insisted to his death that they found good signs of life, and was pretty bitter about it.

All of that is now being revisited, nearly 50 years later.

One interesting mystery concerning the defection of double agent Kim Philby to the Soviet Union via a Russian freighter in Beirut has always been, who tipped Philby off to his imminent arrest? KGB defector Anatoliy Golitsyn confirmed, in documents only recently declassified, that the person who advised Philby to leave Beirut post haste was an individual previously named in these comments: Duncan Duncanovich Thraxski. Philby, of course, carried with him, along with many other items of intel, a list of hundreds of members of the anti-communist penguin underground in Eastern Europe compiled by communist front organization, Penguin Facts; most of these heroic penguins were subsequently either assassinated or executed after brief show trials. So, the mephitic odor that anti-penguin agitators frequently complain about is most likely the result of a guilty conscience manifesting itself in the psychosomatic triggering of their olfactory glands.

Points awarded, however, for using the word "clement" in a non-weather context.

"In the dog world, humans are elves that routinely live to be 500+ years old."

For generations he has guarded over my family. Since the days of my great-great-great-great-grandfather he has kept us safe. For so long we thought him immortal. But now I see differently, for just as my fur grows grey and my joints grow stiff, so too do his. He did not take in my children, but gave them away to his. I will be the last that he cares for. My only hope is that I am able to last until his final moments. The death of one of his kind is so rare. The ending of a life so long is such a tragedy. He has seen so much, he knows so much. I know he takes comfort in my presence. I only wish that I will be able to give him this comfort until the end.

260 The Louisiana community is on edge tonight after a local man made a bold, life-threatening decision inside his own home.
According to authorities, the man looked his wife directly in the eyes… and said the forbidden phrase:

“You were wrong.”

Neighbors report hearing a gasp so powerful it knocked two potholders off the kitchen wall.
One witness said the wife’s eyebrows “rose up like storm clouds forming over Lake Pontchartrain.”

Police Chief Mrs. Shaw addressed the situation at a press conference, calling the husband’s statement “reckless, brave, and medically questionable.”

“It takes extraordinary courage for a man to tell his wife she was wrong,”
Chief Shaw said.
“Courage… and medical coverage.”

Paramedics remain on standby while negotiators attempt to guide the man out from behind the washing machine, where he reportedly dove moments after realizing what he had said.

The community has begun lighting candles and sharing stories of other men who attempted similar feats. Most survived, though none remember the event clearly due to “trauma-related amnesia.”

Officials urge men statewide:
“If you must tell your wife she’s wrong… write it in a note. Then run.”

Barry Williams (Greg Brady) was a good looking kid and a prolific child actor who appeared on numerous TV series in the late 60's. I saw him recently on an episode of "Here Comes The Brides". This was before the Brady Bunch and he was very young but he recited his lines well.
