Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition![]() We have burned already €185 billion, and... our intention is to burn even more. So we finance a country which has no chance to win the war[...] The Bien Pensant will describe Orban as a lackey of Moscow and a corrupt fascist. He is also correct in his analysis of the current situation in Ukraine. And as an additional bona fide, Muslims make up about 0.1% of the population of Hungary. So what does that say about Orban's analysis of geopolitical events? The most ridiculous aspect of this entire pathetic repudiation of the Globalist, United Nations, NATO narrative is that the West is very willing to sacrifice Ukrainian youth in the meat grinder of this war, spend their American-financed peace dividend on arms for Ukraine, but would never dream of sending a single soldier to fight. That's for filthy Slavs to do! And also because their fighting-age men are effete, despise any martial spirit, and simply don't care enough about anything to fight for it! Including of course fighting the Muslim hordes raping their women! Orban is correct. This will end in a Russian victory of sorts, and throwing good money into the quagmire of Eastern Ukraine is laughable, if it weren't also deadly and destructive. The West should push hard for some sort of ceasefire, but expanding the war by sending American offensive weapons to Ukraine is insanity. Yes, that will put pressure on Moscow, but is it the kind of pressure that ends wars? No. The real question is: What does Europe get for its €185 billion? The continuation of the obscene corruption in Ukraine? That speaks ill of the morality of the Western elites. They are willing to sacrifice Ukrainian and Russian youth to keep the graft flowing. The Key Bridge, which collapsed in March 2024 after being hit by a cargo ship, is now projected to cost $4.3 billion to $5.2 billion to rebuild, up from the previous cost estimate of $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion, CNN reported. The bridge was also originally expected to be completed by 2028.

Did I ruin healthcare and drive the price of health insurance through the roof? Nope, Obama again. Did I support unlimited illegal immigration driving up demand for finite resouces? Fast forward three and a half years, and the border war is a horrid slog that is chewing up Ukraine -- slowly, inexorably -- and absent the entry of America into a ground operation, will end in Russian consolidation of its captured territory.
-------- If only there was a regular here 3.5 years ago who had the cool crystal clarity to forecast that Russia was in it for the long haul, and due to the mechanics of the war and the level of outside support "Uke" had, Russia would just grind and grind and grind, for decades if they have to, as they have done before, and the war otherwise had no imminent end of any kind despite the posturing and certainty from other onlookers and "experts". I do like the idea of punishing Russia bad enough that they don't decide to try expanding again. But I don't know if they'll learn that lesson. We keep teaching our enemies that if they just hold on, we (the US and the West in general) will get tired and leave. Disagree with some of the analysis....
First, there's a lot of heavy breathing about protecting Ukraine's borders. Well, why? Why should borders be static after WW2? What about those borders (other than that's where we drew lines on or about that date) is lovely or good? Second, I don't think any government should be sending their young men to war over someone else's problem. If you want to bring back private armies, I'm with you. I think someone with oodles of money (is Soros pro-Ukraine? probably not) should be able to recruit and train up a bunch of folks to go to Ukraine's (or Christians in Nigeria) aid. Third, Russia might win only to the extent they consolidate some small gains. But, generally, I think they're being bled dry. They frittered away all of their industry, and Putin didn't fix the problems that the Soviets induced. The Russia that holds the Donbas will be a fragile shell. Of course, no one else will take advantage of that - because that's not who post-WW2 Progressive foreign policy wonks are. Posted by: GWB at November 18, 2025 11:39 AM (ZIwcu) 168

But I don't think that, because they can't. You are missing a far bigger picture. Do you really think it's just some cosmic coincidence that mass illegal immigration is happening in virtually every western country in the world? Mamdani won in NYC because he dominated with foreign born voters and there enough of them in large cities like NYC to make a difference these days.
Call it socialism, communism whatever totalitarian name floats your boat but this phenomenon we are living through is not unique to the US and we aren't bringing a bunch of illiterate 3rd worlders into the US just for cheap labor. This is an invasion meant to topple western society and replace it with rule by elite experts. Spend some time listening to WEF speeches and they will flat out tell you this is the plan. 299 I like both Wegman's and Trader Joe's as markets, but I avoid them like the plague because the clientele are, taken in aggregate, the most disgusting ball of ignorance and social retardation to be found anywhere in the continental United States.

We've got basically Meijer, Kroger, Aldi, and Fresh Thyme
Aldi is a cost effective source for basics. Meijer has brands and variety Aldi doesn't but their meats no good. Fresh Thyme has fresh veg at premium prices. Kroger is basically a no go zone. Posted by: Victor Tango Kilo at November 18, 2025 12:22 PM (oFaKd) 411

As I may have mentioned before, I refuse to shop at WF. At least in NYC, the stores are all crawling with pretentious assholes and bougie buttlickers. Hard pass. Russia doesn't want a cease fire. They've said that explicitly. They want a negotiated settlement before they pull anything back.
For some strange reason they don't trust the U.S. and Nato to honor any "cease fire." I don't know where they got such a crazy idea. Posted by: BurtTC at November 18, 2025 12:24 PM (dGCAG) 418

Hardtack is hard-baked unleavened bread. Basically just flour, water and salt. It's made that way to keep from getting jogged to pieces in a soldier's pack and also for storage/longevity. Pretty decent when fresh, but a jawbreaker when stale. Posted by: Captain Obvious, Laird o' the Sea at November 18, 2025 12:18 PM (ZEYzj) The modern equivalent is Pilot Bread. Extremely popular in Alaskan villages, something like 90 percent of the production goes to Alaska. The rest goes to Hawaii and preppers. I'm in Berks county PA now. Aside from the scads of typical grocery chains, some local some national, we've got farmers markets out the wazoo, and even a couple local italian markets that import fun stuff directly.
We definitely ain't hurtin' for groceries. And I definitely don't miss the more gladiatorial aspects of attempting to shop for food back east. Posted by: Warai-otoko at November 18, 2025 12:27 PM (06Hmj) 422
Empires collapse. No one really knows when or what will happen, as the effects ripple through the world. Some are betting that at the end of it all, Russia will collapse, but it could just as well be the West. Not a gamble worth taking, but here we are
=== So, if the best case scenario is RUSSIA collapsing, and 9 times out of 10 that best case scenario leads to an even worse situation because of the power vacuum why, oh why would we take the gamble? My problem with Orban's comment is that he, of all people, should know that Putin's goal is not just territory: it's re-establishing the Soviet empire. If Putin swallows up Ukraine (and given Ukrainians' experience under Russian domination, it's no surprise that they're fighting like hell to prevent that), he won't stop there. The Baltic states would be in his crosshairs, as well as the former Iron Curtain nations, including Hungary.
The only outcome that is at all favorable to us and Europe is for Russia to be exhausted to the point that Putin will declare victory and accept a deal for part of Ukraine. Any other outcome will lead to bigger, broader war. Posted by: Nemo at November 18, 2025 12:35 PM (4RPgu) 427

Posted by: Pragmatic plain spoken is the way ======= Not impossible for most known civilizations to collapse. Happened before in the late Bronze Age. === I dont think civilization collapsing is a good outcome. If the so called best case scenario occurs, and russia collapses, it creates a power vacuum. These days who fills power vaccuums? China and Islam. I really dont think you can define a good outcome that is plausible or reasonable. So many killed and so much destroyed, the fall of Russia itself would not be worth it, given the likely result would not be a free, democratic Russia ally (a la post war japan) but must likely a festering wound that would be coopted by bad actors. Victoria Nuland and her lackeys are wrong and Orban Trump are right. Posted by: Pragmatic plain spoken is the way at November 18, 2025 01:00 PM (TSGfC) 431
