The Classical Saturday Coffee Thread & Prayer Revival

[I apologize for the sad photo. The bottom of the cup is a sad thing to see.]

*****

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulez for those of you in St. Cloud.)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Be kind. Be nice. Let the Cobs throw the first stones.
3) No. You may not run with sharp objects.
4) Have a great weekend.

“God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next. Amen.”

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

9/28 - Teresa in Fort Worth gave an update: It has been 1 year since Teresa started “down the cancer rabbit hole”. She sends her thanks for the prayers as they have buoyed her and her family through this year. She has been blessed to exceed the original 6-12 months predicted, by the grace of God – and the prayers of many people. Her next CT scan is in November, and the surgeon is pretty sure that her tumors will be small enough to remove/destroy.
10/7 Update – A recent CT scan shows lots of calcification (indicating tumor cell death), and the oncologist didn’t see any sign on the small tumors. The area where the largest tumor was now shows lots of calcification and the largest tumor has shrunk by almost 90%! Her next CT scan will be 11/3, and they assume they will be discussing surgery to remove the lobe of her liver, where the tumor is located. Timelines are uncertain, but she is hopeful that she will get to spend Christmas with her family at least one more time, if not more! Thanks to EVERYONE who has been praying on her behalf.
11/10 Update – Everything is fine, but it looks like the cancer is starting to figure out a way around the medication – something they knew would probably happen around this time in the protocol. More news will be coming soon – possibly surgery in late Dec/early Jan.

9/29 – toby928 asked for prayers for a brother named Joe, who is being crushed by grief. Joe’s wife is in a coma and will likely die in the next few days.
10/12 Update - – Joe’s wife did pass away. She is safe in the arms of our Savior.
10/18 Update – Joe could still use prayers. Losing both parents and his wife in one year has hit him hard.

10/2 – Bluebell passed along an update: grammie winger sends her gratitude for all the prayers – she feels they are working. On Oct 6 she will be starting a cancer treatment program because her doctors are “cautiously optimistic” that they can give her some more time. Monday she gets the port, followed by 6 hours of chemo infusion on Tuesday. The Rev is doing better because now he has some hope. Please pray for her as she starts this treatment program because in her words, “prayer changes things”.
10/18 Update – grammie winger sent an update, that she has had her first chemo treatment. There were no side effects. She noted “God is very kind.”
11/8 Update – grammie winger posted that chemo is “kicking my butt and it’s hard to think”.

10/4 – Skip requested prayers for his dad, who fell at church back in August, hitting his head. He fell again at home and has had back pain since then. He is going in for more tests on 10/8.
10/11 Update – Dad has a brace to wear and has pain medication, so is doing OK for now. He will need an outpatient procedure soon for an injection in his spine to fill a void. Continuing prayers will help.
10/18 Update – Dad is in the hospital, needing some blood clots cleared up, and will soon have the outpatient operation for his back.
10/25 Update – Dad was released from the hospital and is in a rehab center near his home.

10/11 – Brother Tim asked for prayers as he has two more sessions of radiation. Prayer works and God heals.
10/18 Update – Radiation is done and now Brother Tim is recovering from the effects and praying for a clean PET scan.

10/11 – Ben Had asked for prayers for a very special man we know as olddog. May his medical issues be benign and full health restored.

10/13 – K requested prayers for a co-worker (Grant). Grant and his wife are expecting their first child, and they are experiencing some complications. K would appreciate prayers for peace and a healthy baby for Grant, his wife, and their unborn child.

10/15 – Bulg asked for prayers for an elderly neighbor, who used to babysit for them, who is undergoing chemo for colon cancer.

10/16 – jrgunn5 asked for prayers for a son who is going through a very trying time. The son is almost finished with his teaching credentials and Master’s program. He sees other students being offered positions that he is more qualified for, yet he is ignored by the schools where he is working. He is becoming angry and despairing of gaining a position to pay off the enormous debt he has taken on to pursue this career. He needs to hear God’s voice, and a door opening soon would be appreciated.

10/18 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his friend John. John was a functioning alcoholic while working, and then retired about 2 years ago, and is now in rehab. Prayers are also needed for Toni. She had to have a kidney stone crushed and says she will never do surgery again.

10/18 – From about That Time can use prayers, as a biopsy revealed some sort of lymphoma.

10/18 – J.J. Sefton wrote:
First of all I cannot even begin to express my appreciation for all the love, good wishes, support and of course prayers for me over this past year. On a positive note, I am essentially cancer free but glioblastoma being what it is means having an MRI done every 2 months to monitor for any new growth.
Right now, I humbly ask for your prayers for my spouse who was recently diagnosed with NPH, (normal pressure hydrocephalus) She's scheduled for a spinal tap to both drain excess fluid to relieve pain and hopefully restore her ability to walk and engage in routine physical activity. Then an MRI will also help them decide if she needs a shunt to be inserted into the brain to drain excess cerebral/spinal fluid away and into her stomach. I'm guessing she'll likely need it, fingers crossed that we can speed up this process and get her back to 100% ASAP.
God bless you, Prayers from me to all of you who are suffering,

10/21 – TecumsehTea wrote with prayers of praise that she has recovered from her heart attack. Areas of concern, though, are that they cannot keep her blood pressure stable and in a desirable range. This has brought several additional trips to the ER to bring it down and for observation. She is asking for wisdom and guidance for the doctor, and patience and peace for herself. She says this has been a scary ride, but God continues to show His faithfulness.

10/21 – Grateful wrote to ask for prayers for Pillage Idiot, that God would guide him in his search for employment – resulting in an opportunity that makes the best use of his unique skills. And that PI be blessed with acceptance of their love and caring for him, as he does for everyone else.

10/22 – Pennsyltucky requested prayers for his dad, who underwent cancer surgery on 10/21. Everything seems to have gone well (they’re confident they got it all!) but due to his age, his hospital stay and convalescence will be longer than usual. Dad is doing well, is awake and alert. A full recovery is anticipated but it will take a while. Thank you so much.
11/6 Update – Pennsyltucky’s dad is out of the hospital and is now convalescing at home with the aid of home care nurse visits. He’s not able to walk very well, having spent so long in a hospital bed, but he’s in good spirits and improving daily. Thanks for your prayers!

10/23 – Grumpy and Recalcitrant asked for prayers for TheJamesMadison, who recently lost his job. Please pray that he finds a new job quickly, and that God grants him peace of mind and calmness of spirit to face this unexpected trial.

10/25 – M&B would like prayers for M's sister. Suddenly, she got dizzy, and with no other symptoms, was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. Surgeons said that they were able to remove most of it but gave her an 18-24 month survival. She's just finished the first round of chemo and radiation, and she just feels awful. She has that "deer in the headlights" look, since this all happened so fast, with no real symptoms! M&B have been searching through all the recent news about other medicinal options that are working for this type of cancer. We are grateful for all prayers!

10/25 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for her retired organist Jessie, whose dear daughter, S, died of cancer recently. Also prayers for Korean War vet, R, who has cancer and is not expected to live long.

10/27 – Polliwog the ‘Ette asked for prayers for her youngest daughter, "LK", who needs prayers for safety and peace, and her best friend "C" for health and that stress not cause a flare up of psoriatic arthritis as they and another roommate work with the police and the landlord to have the 4th roommate "M" evicted because she is threatening them and making the living situation a nightmare. “M” is bipolar and medicating with alcohol. Prayers for her healing and that she find salvation from the self-destructive path she's on would also be appreciated.
11/8 Update – The situation still needs lots of prayer. LK sand C have been staying at a hotel to avoid M, who wants to fight whenever she sees them. M is supposed to move out the end of Dec. but that seems like a very long time when C still needs to attend class and keep her arthritis in check.

11/5 – Mary Poppins’ Practically Perfect Piercing said he could use a prayer or two. He has a pain in her head which, it seems, is occipital neuralgia. It’s not fatal, thank heavens, but is painful until a proper treatment course is settled upon. Many thanks.
11/12 Update – Pronouns corrected above.

11/6 - D sent an update on his wife Susan, and her battle with cancer. He sent his thanks to everyone for the prayers. They are helping and much appreciated. Susan had an infection which is being treated, but her sodium levels are bad again. She will be sent home soon, but is on restrictive fluids until this is cleared up. The good news is that she has gained some weight back and her voice is much stronger now. Thank you, and please keep up the prayers. They appreciate everyone!

11/7 – BarelyScaryMary requested prayers for a friend, RJ, who is having heart issues. She will likely get stents or a bypass soon. Prayers are needed for RJ’s recovery, and also that she is able and willing to make the lifestyle changes necessary for her health.

11/8 – Dash my lace wings had an urgent request for prayers for a co-worker and friend who is hospitalized with sepsis. It is extremely resistant to antibiotics and has attached to the artificial heart valve she got less than a year ago. Her situation is tenuous.

11/8 – Farmer Bob asked for prayers for his Uncle Richard’s MIL who passed away on 11/7, and for Richard’s wife Linda. Linda’s putting on a brave face and it was not unexpected, but it’s hard to lose your mother.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

I had a heart ablation procedure yesterday that involved a team inserting catheters through my groin, cutting a hole in a heart ventricle and stopping the signals that cause fibrillation. I walked into the hospital and walked out the same day.

Prayers up for everybody who develop and perform these. I don't see it as a miracle but am humbled by the professionalism , kindness, and effort these people have put into what they do.

She had sepsis, right? Best wishes to her. I had a friend get that summer of '24. The 6-week IV antibiotic treatment eradicated all of her infection(s), but at the cost of also eradicating all her good gut flora and funga. When your coworker gets done with the antibiotics, she'll need to rebuild them for proper digestive functioning. Rebuilding takes a little time.

Glad the treatment worked!

Strange doings on the board (of which Her Majesty is a member) at our national breed club. Five out of the twelve board members abruptly, simultaneously and nastily resigned, including the club president (HM, the AKC delegate, did not).

I knew HM had a lot of trouble with the club president, who's something of an imperious bully, but HM doesn't go in for intrigues or as a member of a cabal. When talking to her on the phone yesterday, I asked her what precipitated this and got a one hour explanation, which I stopped listening to after about five minutes. It's all real greaseball stuff.

The interesting thing is that they're most if not all up for re-election and were put on the ballot by the nominating committee last month. Can they be re-elected if they've resigned? Opinions differ: I say yes, HM says no.

64 The left wants all barriers removed to everything because they think it will pave the way to a perfect world.

Interesting, but I believe it is just plain old spiritual warfare. "Perfect", while being a highly subjective word, in today's use means something akin to "I Win, You Lose".

Look at the works of the Left: Ugliness, destruction, hate, depravity, waste, fraud, strife, rage, etc. These are not the ingredients for a successful and prosperous society that aspires to Great Things.

This is the intention to set fire and destroy The Garden of Eden and all that was encompassed with the Divine declaration of "Very Good".

The Left loves the Regulatory State - the polar opposite of removing barriers.

A very common theme of the Left is to destroy whatever entity they have control over with DEI, regulation, fraud and theft.

The only "barriers" they demand be removed are the guardrails that maintain and protect a civil society.

Doubtful. CIA & DoJ are not going to release anything that harms any politician or public figure who is in good standing from either Party - though I do think Epstein's clients were mostly Democrats, given that few Republicans are important enough to bother wasting operational resources on blackmailing. There are DC-area parks workers and pizza deliverymen with more influence than the GOP.

Absolutely nothing substantial will come out of these doc dumps - that has all been filtered out for future use or ongoing coverups - just a few news cycles worth of flimsy innuendo against Orangemanbad.

Walls, pictures and stuff, my feet, everything! It goes away after blinking a few times. Doing some research .... Is problematic. Not much out there about this. What I did find runs the gamut between.. "Meh. Used up the red pigment receptor in the vision and left blue/green receptors to mess with you until balance is restored. Don't worry about it" all the way over to... "get your affairs in order. You have a brain tumor and you're GONNA DIE!!!!" Evidently, eye strain can be a common culprit.
I called my optometrist and got a first available appointment for December 8.

They subverted Evangelical leadership in the 1990s, pushing "nice" Christianity and telling them not to vote or be of "this world."

Because it is so fragmented, it is difficult to purge the traitors from Protestant ranks and in many cases, the rot is fatal.

The Church has largely weathered the storm, and the Liberal Catholicism has had its moment, and failed. The rising clergy are overwhelmingly orthodox conservatives, which is why the bishops are throwing tantrums.

I think Christians were slow to react to the onslaught, but those churches that adhere to the teachings of Jesus Christ are finally fighting back in the spiritual realm. The "nice" churches are dying out.

My parish has developed a very strong Youth Ministry. My 15 year-old grandson (who's a very devout Papist, by-the-way) was asked to be a team leader for the Middle Schoolers going on a retreat for preparation for Confirmation. My grandson was told to develop two talks on the virtues of Piety and Courage. Being "nice" was conspicuous in its absence.

Sometimes, it just involves sitting with them as they take a nap, and knowing they are not alone.

My routine is approaching normal in that I am swimming and walking again but apparently overdid it a bit and had some pain near the incision. Sent an email to the surgeon just checking. He assured me it was a muscle strain in his very cryptic way but one line stood out. He said Healing is not linear.
I think this applies to more, than just the physical.

Whatchoo up to?

128 I think Christians were slow to react to the onslaught, but those churches that adhere to the teachings of Jesus Christ are finally fighting back in the spiritual realm. The "nice" churches are dying out.

The philosopher Francis Schaeffer coined the term "Line of Despair" where he graphs the path of decadence through the institutions. Largely dealing with the abandonment of Absolute Truth and embracing Relativism, before crossing the "line", Western thought, in terms of science, morality and reasoning held to a unified truth. Once "line" is crossed truth is fragmented and results in a split worldview where facts and values are disconnected.

of course, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Sartre et al expanded this into concepts of postmodernism (which the West is definitely in), and existentialism (which dominates academia).

The Evangelical church, in pursuit of manipulating sinners into "Choosing Christ" threw away absolute truth because, as the Gospels proclaim, doctrine divides and the unregenerate hate the Gospel - so toss that aside, apply some sanguine hippie dreck "doctrine" and watch the numbers soar as the Easy Path wins.

There was an investigative piece years ago (I think it was British made) about “Where was the actual Garden of Eden?” and it examined all of the directional references in Genesis, as well as many other ancient writings. It was interesting just to see all that put together; and although of course the real answer is “who knows?”, this production decided that the place they fit everything was a large suburb of Tehran.
The closing was quite effective; the narrator says “Eden’s not gone, it’s right here, and this is what we’ve made of it.”
Showing a teeming slum full of filth, packed with people, and not a single green plant in sight.

The Lefty Catholic Bishops are dying-out and they know it. Hence, their tantrums.

The younger priests are very orthodox. The whole Liberal Catholicism experiment was tried, and it failed completely.

I console myself with Pope Leo XIII's auditory experience in which he heard Jesus give Satan 100 years to destroy the Catholic Church. It's my opinion that those 100 years are coming to a close. After decades of declining congregations, many Catholic dioceses are experiencing growth in vocations and the laity.

Daniel is not the source for most beliefs about our that; they mainly come from the long vision sequence in Revelation, but also some much more specific descriptions in first and second John, which say that will be many Antichrist’s, some bigger than others, and seeming to point one final man who will rise above them all. The picture is that of someone from inside the church and who will rise over it and corrupt it from within by denying Christ himself.

Daniel 9:24-26 is now history with the last of vs 26, unto the end of the war desolations are determined, being current.

People who knock dispensationalism point to those who get the timing of Christ's return in relation to the 70th week of Daniel wrong. To get it correct requires a study of the day of the Lord in the OT, day of Christ in the new.

198 Daniel is not the source for most beliefs about our that; they mainly come from the long vision sequence in Revelation,

I find that Evangelicals have a penchant for taking very symbolic, culturally contexted and expressive passages and wresting them into a US-Centric, late 20th century contexted, wooden literal "doctrine".

Its great for selling books and packing in the Prophecy Confrences, but sucks miserably in teaching the things of God.

Revelation doesn't even mention Antichrist, nor Rapture, yet to hear a End Times Enthusiast speak, we are expected to believe that Revelation is a DayTimer® for the Reprobate (those "left behind" and hated the Bible anyway)

The better heretical material of Evangelicalism/Dispensationalism comes from Ezekiel where their leaders teach that Jesus will be making animal blood sacrifices to Himself in a physical rebuilt temple and Holy of Holies.

So, in a way, yes, the Jesus = AntiChrist from the Daniel mis-teaching fits hand in glove with their own prophetic interpretations.

But since you mentioned Ezekiel, I would challenge anyone to read Ezekiel 37 and say it isn’t an incredibly accurate,if somewhat poetic, description of what we’ve been watching from 1940 through today. Although I don’t think Netanyahu is much of a David, we’re still in the middle of the story.

I really love the serenity prayer that's here now.

I just read through the entire prayer list and will go through comments next. It's crazy how reading what everyone else is going through makes your problems look smaller.

There was an anecdote that if everyone were put into a room and everyone's problems were put into the middle of the room, people would race to find their problems.

Teresa did have a fairly positive update on a later thread yesterday. Skip's birthday was a few days ago. I really feel for Polliwog the Ette's people who have to wait until the end of December for M to be evicted. That's a horribly long time and I know what it's like when your living situation is unstable.

I'm having some of my $6 Canadian a jar of no-name coffee but may take the dog for a Tim's as I read the comments. And I have happy updates.

Prayers for all of you and the quiet lurkers.

285 We’re seeing the transformation of Magical Thinking into public policy. The scary part is that historically, when this inevitably fails, the search is on for a Scapegoat class that can be ritually blamed and killed or driven out, to atone for the failure.

“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck.”

replace "are owed" with "expect" is very reasonable since many of us too had an expectation.

The problem is, they traded in housing, jobs and nice things for illegal aliens, Democrat Rule, endless wars and 50% of the population on the dole.

You don't get cheap "health care" when you also demand full coverage to pay for drug rehab, universal GLP-1 subscriptions, endless therapy, and "gender affirming care" in not only the domestic population, but to every life-sentence incarcerated, and each foreigner who comes here and demands it.

Add to it the idea that a person can eat themselves into diabetes and the myriad of pathologies that derive from metabolic dysfunction and drug abuse and then demand that everyone pay endlessly in the feeble attempt to erase decades of pure physical self-abuse.

337 A lot of you already heard this but I did have a very happy week.

Canadian Thanksgiving is in October so I usually decorate the outside Nov 1st before colder weather hits. The outside Christmas lights are all up. There's still leaves on some trees but after I do the lawn one more time, I may put out a few extra spotlights pointing into the trees.

My friends came over for our 4th annual Christmas in November party. Their kids love to decorate the Christmas tree which is how this started. The first year, the oldest saw the tree was up amd asked if they could decorate so everyone came over andMom and I bought pizza.

The second year, Mom and I had gifts for the kids, pizza and my friends brought some food. Last year, my mother's last was beautiful. The 'parties' are only about 3 hours. An hour for decorating, an hour for food and an hour for gifts.

Wednesday was beautiful. The kids did a beautiful job on the tree. They made me and the dog Ralphy several gifts stuffed with treats and I received two beautiful pictures in frames. One was of the youngest last year decorating the tree and a beautiful picture of my late Mother with all of them that makes me tear up.

It was beautiful.

This made me smile. I'm not into decorating and probably will be away for Christmas, so I won't put much, if anything up this year. Maybe wreaths on the doors. And maybe the little Charlie Brown tree. Last Christmas was my mom's last as well. I had all our female relatives come over to help decorate last year (I am apparently the only girl who is decorating-challenged). The guys joined us to eat - SIL's dad kindly fixed a big pot of chili - and we made it a big party. I left the tree up til February because she enjoyed it so much. I'm so thankful now that we did that.

I'm happy you had a lovely time with friends. Hugs to you.

352 For thise of you with mechanically inclined children who want to buy a home when they are older, this was from GatewayPundit.

"Ford CEO Jim Farley laments he can’t fill 5,000 mechanic jobs paying $120K per year: ‘We are in trouble in our country’

Ford has been unable to fill some 5,000 openings for mechanics despite offering a salary of $120,000 a year — prompting the company’s chief executive to warn of a dire shortage of skilled tradespeople in the US.

“We are in trouble in our country. We are not talking about this enough,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said on an episode of the “Office Hours: Business Edition” podcast published earlier this week"

As far as I'm concerned, Israel is an independent extension of the US in a region that refuses to recognize any kind of individual freedom at all. I'm in favor of helping Israel as much as we can to preserve that tiny territory of sanity. Israel is a stabilizer in that part of the world.

Another stupid overconfident twit without a lick of executive experience of any kind, thinking she'll slip into the Big Chair and show everyone how it's done. Fantastic.

Reminds me of the old joke about the kid in the musical instrument store who confidently jumps onto the bench of a new piano. The manager asks, "oh, so you can play?" The kid says, "I don't know. I've never tried."

The fond on the bottom of a coffee cup shouldn't be washed out as it adds to the flavor the next day.

Same with the lip grime at the top.

People just elected a socialist to run NYC and another socialist to run Seattle. Mamdani has never held a real job and the goofball in Seattle runs a non-profit with an annual budget of $150,000. She gets money every month from her mother to pay for child daycare.

We have a lot of adult children in the US.

Thank you so much. Hugs right back.

That sounds like a beautiful time. Spontaneous Christmas parties are the best. Things where people just decide to come together. I dread planned parties.

Mom had so much Christmas stuff, it used to be her yearly dementia test with me asking "Where does this go? Where does this go?"

My friends youngest child was sad Thursday because Christmas was over. And she looked adorable in her 'Trump Rules' hat.

I'm running to Tim's for a free coffee and they always give the dog free timbits. AOP, he's still alive after the dental floss - thank you. I brought him to one of my mother's friends this week. She's 90 amd lives alone and loves Ralphy. Good boy.
