Unlikely. The Reds had a habit of executing 'fascists' and as the war progressed, it was becoming obvious who was going to win.

This was one of the areas where Franco showed his shrewdness - yes, "take no prisoners" increases the terror value, but giving people an easy way out also means they're more willing to quit.

When he conquered northern Spain in 1937, Franco added more troops to his army than he lost.

I think that by the time you get to the current day, the parallels are pretty clear.

Just as the signature aspect of Long Live Death is explaining that Franco was actually a gifted and shrewd commander, Walls of Men's big thing is the "Three Generations Problem," which is that China lacks a military caste, but in times of war, military men emerge.

As soon as the war is over, however, their sons want to be rich and decadent. Thus, the first generation is the conqueror. The second generation is the son who remembers fighting and still kind of likes it. But the third generation has grown up in luxury and comfort, and cares nothing for it. I see no reason to believe that cycle has ended.

Franco was waaay smarter than Mussolini in this respect. He was officially neutral, but made bank selling guns to Hitler. Also accepted Allied bribes of grain.

Mussolini should have done likewise, but he had an ego and figured he'd score some easy wins. Instead he got a lamp post.

Yes, Hollywood romanticized the Spanish Republic, which became even easier, I suppose, after it collapsed. Hitler gave Franco all of his HE 112 fighters, which lost out to the ME 109. The ME 109 got serious product improvement in Spain, and the Condor Legion used regular rotations of pilots and ground crews to "veteranize" the Luftwaffe. You want to know why they kicked ass so hard in WW II for a service that was only six year old? Spain.

Most of Spain's aircraft came from Italy. A huge amount of Italian artillery was also gifted to Franco.

Stalin sent aircraft that were so badly built that they literally grounded all of them and had to have mechanics fix them because they fell apart during flight. Naturally, this was described as "sabotage."

79 When I was a kid in Billings, MT, we were outside playing kick the can (an elaborate form of hide and seek), and I saw a huge meteor fly overhead. No sound, but it was big. I thought it was a plane auguring in or something.

A single-engine plane augured in next to my mothers' townhouse. I heard it flying over head, and then there was this ominous change of pitch, and it sounded like those WW II films with the dive bombers, and then I saw a wing, the sound of a lawnmower and WHACK!

The whole building shuddered. I ran outside and there was a smell of fuel and a long trail of wreckage parallel to the complex. If the guy had shifted a couple of yards to the west, I might not be here now. He apparently had a heart attack while flying.

There were other aircraft involved. Basically everything that could fly was used, and that goes to Franco's boldness and innovation. Once it became clear that the Navy was immobilized (at the behest of the Republican government, the sailors murdered their officers), Franco actually sealifted troops across the straits.

China's greatest threat is always an internal one. That is still true today. If Xi created a Joint Forces Commander to supervise the conquest of Taiwan, he may just as easily take over the country.

China's military command structure is deeply fractured for that reason, which is a great way to keep your military from having any kind of cohesion.

I bought the kind, from dexcom that you shoot into your side with a gun and then snap a bluetooth, transmitter to the spike you’ve shot in. You get a little device that shows your levels anytime. It was all too expensive even with insurance but I hate pricking my finger and thus got around it with that. It worked ok. But the high cost is you have to keep replacing the spike sensor. Yanking it out and shooting yourself again and each one is more money. Dr. said my levels are stable and low enough now to not need the monitoring.

So you take other people's selected clips and figure that is enough for you to condemn him.

This is a wedge issue designed to control the future of the party, to cancel anyone discussing anything that might change MAGA, as ace so eloquently put it. Unfortunately he was for preventing the discussion, without discussing how he can escape the same fate, should he accidentally step outside that 3x5 note card of acceptable opinion

167 As I’ve said before, Tucker Carlson said in his own words out of his own mouth that I and my family are “heretics” and “some of the worst Christian’s in the world”. That right there was enough, it doesn’t matter that he praised the drug runner and Communist dictator Maduro, it doesn’t really matter that he got down on his knees and verbally fellatted Mamdani, or that now he believes that Chemtrails really are an evil Government plot by Trump. Whatever.
He’s done enough for me to always consider him a greater Traitor, and a far greater all around piece of shit than Bill Kristol or David French or Jeffrey Dahmer, for that matter.

168 Yeah, count me in with this pov:

- Tucker can talk to whomever he wants

- you can be pissed off as hell if you do not like what he or his guests are saying.

- Just talking to people or letting them speak is a far different thing than espousing their views.

- Tucker can be an asshole and still not be wrong for talking to people.

234 It took all day, but I finally managed to finish all four of the videos of live music from last night's ONT. By far the best was Queen's "Somebody To Love," and while it had good production due to being off a DVD (Live At The Bowl), that really wasn't the biggest difference. Rather, the other three - The Police's "Message In A Bottle," Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun," and INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart" - were more "you had to be there" kind of performances, where they sang around the melody of the album/radio version instead of just doing it.

I'm sure it was lovely and thrilling if you were in the crowd and feeling the energy of the moment, but those Artiste's Variations don't really work so well as a recording, instead coming across as self-indulgent. Somehow, Freddie Mercury -- not a man known for his rectitude and restraint -- played it the straightest (so to speak).

LOL - they're ugly and Candace is cute.

In an attempt to f*ck with liberals at work, I have started asking them "Who's the prettiest first lady in the past 60 years?"

It messes with them because they can't admit Melania is gorgeous. One lady said this week "Well... not Melania!"

Heh - I love messing with libs

Tucker has given a platform for people who have deeply different views of the world than you, and threaten your world view.
The hardest thing it the world is to say, "if this is remotely true, what does this say about the world, and what does it say about me and my place within the world?"

Most people cannot stand that sort of introspection.
