They'll now have a short debate before the final vote. Dog subtly indicates he'd like some affection. Figure skating training techniques sure have improved since I silvered at Nagano. I graced the ice to "Alone" by Heart. Some trucks now have automatic-deployment snow chains. Kind of. The chains don't wrap around the tires, just rattle around under the tires to increase friction. It's good to be the king. This dog doesn't know what they're celebrating, but he loves the energy! Please sir, can I have whatever there is that can be eaten? Rescuing a street dog. Visiting hours. This is the most adorable little animal hoarding situation. Deer walks up to get some pets and scritches. Owls are odd birds. Charging up your cat to 100%. FAQ: Will a camel eat a lemon? For further review: If not, why not?

The mama Golden visiting her baby son made me sad for her. She's worried, but he looks to be doing ok.
Son's current Golden as a puppy spent a lot of time in emergency vet's. For eating mulch and the baby's socks. IV's took care of the blockage. His first Golden would come to our house in FL and eat through coconuts. No one seemed concerned about him. He'd also eaten feathers from his bed, part of a particle board table, and most of a book as a puppy. Sure he pooped white paper mache for awhile, but he was ok. They did not listen to me that he still needed crating at 6mo old. Came home to feathers in the air like snow from his bed and the rest just happened organically in the same day. He was crazy. Tell me about it! I was walking my dog one night in the front yard when I lived in Northern Virginia, and an owl swooped down out of a tree right in front of me and made off with a rabbit. The poor dog - a pitbull mix, that looked fierce but was actually quite pusillanimous, and who I was halfway convinced had seen, but ignored, the rabbit - was momentarily traumatized. I love the sound of owls hooting softly in the night. Posted by: Paco at November 12, 2025 07:58 PM (mADJX) 70

I admit I still enjoy a lot of episodes of it. But yes, there were problems, and sometimes Alda went nutzo with trying to bring praise to himself, the character of Hawkeye, and the relentless anti-war POV. Having said that? Faith was treated with respect on the show; see how they portrayed Father Mulcahy. Col. Flagg was a nut but Potter OTOH was a true patriot. And Charles Emerson Winchester III was a great character (and replacement for Frank Burns), an open conservative who could be a huge elitist snob, but was also a brilliant surgeon, often times thoughtful, and held his own with Hawk and BJ's antics, plus he was never made to apologize for his conservative POV. Somebody here today noted UC San Diego facing a wild increase in remedial math students. I remain stunned, even though I know education generally has become a dumpster fire. UCSD was since its founding a hard-core math and science school on the top tier.
Here's a review of the wreckage of this once great institution: https://tinyurl.com/44t4n837 At least 10 years ago, the CSU system (that's the "State" colleges like Long Beach State) announced they would no longer publish numbers on remedial math/English stats. Or was it that they wouldn't even be offering such classes, with the appealing rationale that students had to pay for such but they didn't count towards graduation? Either way. The %s were scandalous, of course. Having lectured and graded papers at a CSU, I can confirm that the illiteracy and inability to think critically are terrifying. Another thing learned from the world famous SD Zoo. Owls sensor suites are even more amazing than one might think. Not just the night vision, which is amazing. They can sense the *heartbeats* of prey at a great distance. Owls are considered a major control on the rodent population, globally, and account for a large % of such that are harvested by nature. The barn owls fly at my head shrieking if I go outside when they have babies and the GHO ignore me if I go outside to watch their babies hunt. If I get too close to the GHO baby on the ground the parents start bill clicking and hooting and I will leave because I don't want to find out what happens next. Penguins are not unintelligent, in a devious sort of way. They show no fear of humans, and in this way gain the trust of unsuspecting victims. Once enthralled by the animal's adorable waddle, one becomes enured to the mephitic menace that boldly seeks to dominate both hemispheres of the planet. The penguin is intelligent, yes, in the same manner as a serial killer, on a violent and bloody mission of mayhem.

I like Life & Legend of Wyatt Earp but holy shit the "Darby Singers" get annoying. Plus all the stupid "winging" of bad guys instead of killing 'em.
There is 0 music in the Wyatt Earp show. None. All the "music" is acapella with a few men humming & singing. The humming gets weird, at times. Posted by: Soothsayer at November 12, 2025 08:34 PM (JYcvF) The real-life Wyatt Earp only killed one man during his time in Kansas, and that one died from infection after Earp winged him. The OK Corral gunfight was the first time he deliberately shot to kill anyone; the TV show was trying to be accurate in having him avoid killing during the earlier seasons, but since they were inventing most of the gunfights he was involved in during those seasons, you'd think they'd have invented a few bad guys for him to kill. When the show eventually got to the OK Corral, they featured the most accurate screen representation of the famous gunfight; it puts most others to shame, and remarkably for early-1960s TV, it's done in slow motion. NPR is completely scripted from the main announcer to the color voice they bring in to explain the news. Some of the personalities sound like they are reading a script.
one day soon, the entire process will be a small group of news aggregators pulling information off of Twitter and Reuters, a desk to receive reports from stringers, and a writers' room putting it into carefully nuanced scripts so the various AI voices can read them for the broadcast - and will sound more realistic. And all those literary coolies will probably be paid between 3 to 6K a month each. Posted by: Kindltot at November 12, 2025 08:42 PM (rbvCR) 182

What's interesting is that the Dems are doing the opposite of what parties normally do. Usually you have the moderates jump ship, but the safe seats hold the line. Schumer had the safe seats (or people not seeking re-election) take a dive because there are no moderates. Even in purple states, Dems fear primary challenges. That's a pretty messed up dynamic. Since no one cares... Aura Lea was published by Poulton, an Englishman who had come to the USA with his family as a boy in 1838, and Fosdick in 1861. It was a sentimental ballad at a time when upbeat and cheerful songs were more popular in the music halls. It became popular as a minstrel song, and the tune was also taken up by the U.S. Military Academy as a graduating class song, called "Army Blue"; new lyrics by L. W. Becklaw were sung to the original melody. Then, in 1956, Ken Darby, (mentioned above for Wyatt Earp TV series), adapted the melody and created Elvis Presley's big hit "Love Me Tender." Now you know the rest of the story. Posted by: Paul Harvey at November 12, 2025 09:00 PM (JYcvF) 225

Yeah Hadrian I had forgotten how formulaic and stupid the denouement was in that movie. Some of the technical stuff was well done. It seemed to be mostly an attempt at a portrait of a crew driven over the edge by a commander who went too far, but it didn't manage to build that atmosphere. Fairly wooden acting from several people, too.

Likely that Korea (not Samsung) will be of major help in getting some Arleigh Burkes in the water faster, so there's that. Haven't been following but looked like a sensible idea would actually be taken up, and S. Korean-owned yards (there, and possibly Phila.) would be building some. Would go up on my "day off" from x-c skiing (you always need one) on ski trips, and empty some brass, er, steel (54R) with a Mosin-Nagant. The rifle felt at home in the wintry conditions. From NavSea down to the yards, pretty ugly in many ways for years. Build quality slipping, designs awful. And for many years though not now, these troubled ships manned by dispirited personnel being lectures on "racism" and "inclusion". The rust on many ships is now infamous. Current SecNav said in his confirmation hearings that he got texts from Trump at night asking about the rust on the ships. Hilarious - and Trump at his best. Things are improving across the board now but the inertia of de-industrialization and collapsing educational/social standards weighs heavily. 328 Reading that Hochul is getting squeezed by both Mamdani, who's counting on her to give him lots of money for all his freebies, and Elise Stefanik, who's running for NY Governor.
Couldn't happen to a nicer DEI hire! ====== I bet all the NY Morons would like to see Hochul go over Niagra Falls in a barrel. Posted by: exdem13 FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT at November 12, 2025 09:50 PM (XjTSo) 345

Try this purple prose on for size, it is found on page 3 of the trade paperback. John Egan ... was a bomber boy; destruction was his occupation. And like most other bomber crewmen, he went about his work without a quiver of conscience, convinced he was fighting for a noble cause. He also killed in order not to be killed. Women who choose to kill their children by abortion shouldn't be called ladies. They are whores. Unless there is a dire health issue, there shouldn't be any abortions.
Posted by: four seasons at November 12, 2025 09:45 PM (3ek7K) --- The dirty little secret is that many women are pushed into it, because their boyfriends don't want to pay for the kid, and they've been brainwashed to put their earnings first. The laws that Roe struck down were actually the first wave of wins by women, because they knew that abortions were often coerced. But then the ghouls came up with the idea that killing your baby was "empowering." Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at November 12, 2025 09:53 PM (ZOv7s) 352

Pg 2-3 had this cryptic passage:
Some infantrymen envied the airmen's comforts, but as a character in an American navigator's novel asks, "How many infantry guys do you think would be heading for the front lines if you gave them a plane with full gas tanks?" I get the suspicion he is referring to Joseph Heller's Catch-22 but I am mystified as to why he will not name Yossarian nor list Heller's book in the bibliography if he goes to the trouble to write THAT. The laws Roe struck down were from the mid-19th Century, the first stirring of the womens' movement. Susan B. Anthony was a pro-lifer. The fact that Suffragettes subsequently embraced Margaret Singer does not refute the logic that abortion is innately unnatural. It makes mothers into murderesses. Actual feminine women despised it. It’s not Hilaria is a spring chicken, she’s 41.
The main problem is she doesn’t want to have sex with a nasty, angry, fat deusche bag. The other problem is that she’s a talentless nobody and he really doesn’t have much money so it’s not like she can take him to the cleaners in divorce, so if she’s going to be stuck with that troll, she’s gonna do what she can to not have sex with him. >> Susan B. Anthony was a pro-lifer.
Nope. I knew you were going to say this. SBA was not anti-abortion. >> The fact that Suffragettes subsequently embraced Margaret Singer does not refute the logic that abortion is innately unnatural. It makes mothers into murderesses. Actual feminine women despised it. No True Scotsman. “Feminine” women may reject it, but the majority of voting women do not. KY passed a pro-abortion referendum. Do you think that was all (or even majority) men? If the 19th Amendment vanished tomorrow, abortion would be outlawed nationwide. Them’s the facts. Universal suffrage == child sacrifice.
