The Morning Report — 11/10/25

ItsAJive.jpg

Good morning kids. Well, it certainly appears that the Schumer Shakedown Shutdown Shitshow has come to an end, after 40 days. Essentially Schemer and the Dems got nothing in return for passing what amounts to just another continuing resolution and the hardcore Maoists are blowing a gasket. Cue a very loud sad trombone

Whatever one thinks of polling, even before last Tuesday's horrendous election day results, polls had consistently indicated that Americans were blaming the Democrats for the perceived and in maybe a few instances real pain being felt by the government shutting down. So if their calculus was to use this as a weapon to beat up on Trump and the GOP in the run up to next year's midterms, perhaps Schumer felt it wise to just lick his wounds, fold up the tent and as Democrats always do, pray that the economy tanks and Americans suffer so they can ride that to victory next November and again in 2028 while discrediting the America First economic and political agenda.

This is what capitulation looks like, and the left knows it. The deal is simple. Schumer’s caucus agreed to advance a package of spending bills that will reopen the government and extend funding through January.

That’s it.

No sweeping policy concessions, no big wins tucked into the fine print, no “historic framework” or “moral victory.” Just a basic continuing resolution, dressed up with some boilerplate back pay for furloughed workers and funding for food assistance through next fall. In other words, exactly what Republicans had put on the table before the Democrats decided to make a scene.

This shutdown began because Schumer thought he could strongarm the GOP into extending Obamacare subsidies that were set to expire and repealing Medicaid reforms that closed a loophole handing out free healthcare to illegal immigrants. President Trump and Republican leaders had already said they planned to address those subsidies separately, aiming to rein them in and curb abuse. But Schumer wanted drama. He shut down the government over it, thinking Republicans would blink.
They didn’t.

After 40 days of a shutdown over a laundry list of demands, Democrats have nothing to show for it. Their only “win” is a vague promise of a future vote on Obamacare subsidies in December—a meaningless gesture that even they know is dead on arrival.

In the first year of Trump's second term, the economy is indeed improving. The direction upward on many fronts, from inflation to employment and other indices is unmistakeable. But of course as the estimable Victor Davis Hanson reminds us, it takes time for the average American to feel it and that gives the enemy time to lie and propagandize to their black heart's content, which they will do anyway.

The current economic indicators, at least those attributable to the 10-month Trump administration, are strong.

Fourth-quarter GDP is estimated to grow between 2.7 and 4 percent, the robust latter figure according to the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank.

Inflation from June to August ranged from 2.7 to 2.9 percent, significantly lower than the 5 percent annual average during Biden’s 2021-2025 term. . .

. . . the recent off-year elections, albeit in blue states like California, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia, were decided mostly on perceptions of “affordability,” shorthand for the economy.

When independent voters heard little from Republican candidates about the good economic news or of the sharp contrast from the prior Democratic train wreck, they simply bought the left-wing line that the lack of “affordability” was due to the administration in power—that is, Trump.

Third, most of Trump’s key economic initiatives are long-term and will not be fully realized by the end of 2025 or in early to mid-2026.

That right there is key. The timing of when things will be felt is crucial. No doubt local and national Democrat Pols will do all they can to make their own constituents suffer so they can then blame the President and his party. Of course the media as is their wont and raison d'être will be to broadcast that message 25/8/366 all the way through 2026 and beyond.

Switching gears for a moment . . .

[Friday] marked the 108th anniversary since the Bolshevik Revolution, which took place on November 7th, 1917 (October 25th, according to the Julian Calendar). Rarely has a local event produced such a profound global effect as the October Revolution, which ultimately enslaved billions around the world and caused mass murder and famine at an unprecedented rate.. . . Today, over a century later, the results are dismal — over 100 million murdered globally and billions starved and deprived of opportunities for normal lives. What is even more insidious, perhaps, is that the ideology of the October Revolution infected and conquered the education, media, and culture of the self-doubting West.

Also, Yesterday marked the 60th anniversary of the great Northeast blackout that left millions in the region and parts of Canada without power for 13 hours, and which gave rise to the expression, Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?

The irony of the anniversaries of both those events is that they come within days of an election in NYC wherein the residents of NYC have chosen a Communist/Muslim jihadist to be their mayor. More chillingly are the indicators that more and more young people are openly espousing a desire for socialism and a forcible if not violent rejection of free-market capitalism and all of the social and human advancement that were engendered by it and could only have come about because of it.

The lament of then British Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Gray at the outset of the First World War comes to mind: "The lamps are going out all over Europe; We shall not see them lit again in our lifetime."

It remains to be seen if the miraculous victories of Donald Trump as well as the all too brief life and influence of the late Charlie Kirk are blips on an inevitable trajectory to decline and fall, or are harbingers of a great reawakening of American, Western and Judeo/Christian culture and the advancement of civilization and humanity.

2 So, it's technically not over yet...Senate still has to vote on the bill (this was just cloture, but bill only needs 51), then House has to vote and pass it, which might be a bit touchy depending what's in the 3 appropriation bills b/c Massie will be a No, Ds have 1 more vote than last time when they get in, and Dems were going nuts yesterday.

That said, like Kaine from VA being the last vote for the 60 in the Senate, I expect a VA D to be a vote if needed in the House. VA is getting to the "really hurting" part of the game, and Ds don't want to start their new electoral positions here by having a tanked economy at the get go.

Yeah, I'd like to see the 3 appropriation bills before I celebrate. With Dems on board for them, they can't be in our favor. Then again, I didn't think Rs could pass any favorable appropriation bills with the current House and Senate make ups...

What ever happened to referring to Trump as TACO ?

This isn't capitulation. They got their precious RIF'd pigs on the Animal Farm their sinecures.

The money was deleted or shifted, so the "administrators" or whatever they are calling the functionaries of the Deep State these days, no longer had a gig.

Only the ones from Oct 1 onward will be brought back. All RIFs from last fiscal year (through Sept 30) stay gone. It was what got Kaine's vote. It was probably always Trump's intent to get VA's votes that way (his folks can count to 60, too). Same reason he said he'd start to not pay feds, even though that was almost certainly never gonna hold legally.

27 I read an interesting book by an F.B.I. special agent Skousen, called The Naked Communist published in 1960 and he goes into the historical roots of Marx and Engels and Lenin and Trotsky, what is amazing generally is how influential some people can be, they can’t even run their own family, but they want to run the world.

We see this exact same kind of fairy tale thinking today. A bunch of naive kids declared “autonomous zones” and thought they could get rid of property rights, law enforcement, and grow their own food. It’s easy!

Just throw some garden seeds down along with some potting soil over plastic and Bob’s Yer Uncle. Simple, really.

67 This Western Country Is Offering Parents Cash Incentives to Boost Birth Rate.

Hasn't this been tried before, multiple times in multiple places, and never succeeded?

Take a look at China's population from 1950 to present. Given a One Child Policy that began in 1980, the population went from 983 million to 1.41 billion despite having a forced population decreasing birthrate.

The irony is in 2010 it plateaued (after 30 years of 1-Child the population grew despite a forced negative growth rate) with the removal of the 1-Child program, the population is literally declining.

Something I think would be useful is a required course in HS on basic economics...

- Are you planning on making minimum payments on credit cards? How much are you gonna pay in interest?
- Are you planning on voting for Democrats? How much opportunity cost will you pay for their policies?

100 Trump Admin Confirms Plans To Introduce 50-Year Mortgage Terms For Homebuyers

Brought to you by Blackstone, Invitation Homes and Progress Residential.

People who stay in a home for fifty years is rare. (at least now it is) the median tenure is between 11.8-12 years, the average between 11.9 and 13 years. (for reference, in 2006 it was 6.5 years).

What makes lock-in is mortgage rates, transaction costs and inventory. Raise rates, transaction costs or reduce inventory and people stay in place longer.

I'm thinking that extending 30 to 50 just means that the banks prosper because nearly all payments are not equity building, equity growth comes from inflation and market pressure.

133 I think it's compounded even more so than just the opportunity cost of not earning during those years in college. Money earned early is worth far more on balance than money earned later, both by simple interest considerations and by ubiquitous inflation.

Also consider that in your earlier years, you have fewer bills, so you can save more. You don' have to pay for fifteen kids and thirty medications. A dollar saved in your twenties grows to a much bigger number by the time you retire than one even in your thirties.

Those four years in your early twenties is prime earnings that are "worth" way more than they are on paper.

But, then again, the idiot garbage babies going into hock for a ten year degree in Critical Nothing Studies wasn't exactly in a prime position to be raking in a solid income and living frugally, otherwise. So.... meh?

181 82 I do not understand the wringing of hands over the idea of a 50 year mortgage.

Doesn't the average homeowner move every 7 years or so?

Also, by the time homeowners get to the point they're ready to pay off their mortgage, I suspect the kids are out of the house and they've refinanced to a lower rate and shorter term.

Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing (UJMvS) at November 10, 2025 07:44 AM (UJMvS)

Because you won’t build equity that way which will make selling and moving every 7 years hard. It will also entice people without good sense to buy more house than they can afford and cause even more of a financial issue. I remember our friends buying these huge houses and 3/4s of the rooms didn’t have furniture in them because they couldn’t buy furniture. Our first house was an apartment pretending to be a house. 😃.

Article: The fall of NYC in 8 charts
https://tinyurl.com/ycpwyaxa
This was first posted here by someone else and it shows the demographic shifts in NYC. It's not my Da's NYC anymore.

The second, is Left-leaning young people who come here from elsewhere. The rest of the country should be thanking us for taking in your wretched refuse yearning to be free.

Together they have outsized voting power because so many who work in NYC -- and thus have an interest in NYC -- live and vote elsewhere. This leads to weird politics from low turnout with fringe candidates winning.
Trump will make Zohran a poster child for all that's wrong with the unholy alliance of Woke and Islam. They're both ersatz religions. Like Scientology and Joel Osteen: Follow their program and you'll be rewarded in this life (and 77 virgins in the next!)

President Trump and Republican leaders had already said they planned to address those subsidies separately, aiming to rein them in and curb abuse. But Schumer wanted drama. He shut down the government over it, thinking Republicans would blink.

I doubt it. This was about placating the radical left portion of the Democrat base in the distant hope that the Uniparty would come through on some number of small concessions when the *other* Democrat base in the FedGov and inner cities started to hurt.

That hope was dashed. Schumer appears at first blush to have gotten nothing at all, which is an unusual condition. It hasn't happened in my lifetime, so it's odd and unexpected. But the Party *needs* the bureaucrats back at work cutting checks and directing policy fa, far more than anyone else does.

There are degrees outside of stem that also offer solid job prospects- but you have to understand what the degree does. History can make you a teacher or send you to law school, as an example. Business degrees can send you to all kinds of places. Psychology won’t do jack taco without at least a masters. I have a bachelors and an MBA. I would not have made the money I used to make without it. Not even close. J has a BA in History and an MBA (from a far more prestigious institution than mine), and he would not make anything close to what he makes without it. College isn’t all bad.

Which isn't that odd. Banks hand out 30-year notes to old people all the time as it is. They don't care. Nobody - not the borrower, not the lender - expects a mortgage to paid off with the encumbered property then transferring to the borrower. That doesn't happen anymore. People don't stick around that long, and either refinance or move within a decade. The only thing that matters is the transaction cost and the bet on a 50-year loan is in essence the same as the bet on an ARM: that appreciation offsets the transaction costs when the time comes to retire the note (by moving, refinancing or dying).

If you're not counting on having an estate (inheritance for your survivors), it doesn't really matter beyond being yet another can-kicking exercise that reduces actual unencumbered asset ownership potential and putting yet less daylight between renting and owning. It has bad implications, but in practical terms it's not much of a change.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 10, 2025 08:34 AM (zxP/x)

233 That hope was dashed. Schumer appears at first blush to have gotten nothing at all, which is an unusual condition. It hasn't happened in my lifetime, so it's odd and unexpected. According to Mike Johnson, Schumer and Jeffries were demanding both healthcare for illegals and re-constituting USAID. They got neither of those things, because causing pain for NoVA hurt them worse and faster.

It costs a lot more. The amortization table is brutal.
30-year mortgage, $250,000 financed, 5.5%:
- $1352/month
- $233,139 total interest cost

50-year mortgage, $250,000 financed, 5.5%:
- $1135/month
- $431,208 total interest cost

That savings of $45,720 in monthly payments over 30 years costs you almost $200k in interest.

It's insane - but only if you want to pay off the house. If you're just looking to play property leap-frog and periodically cash in on appreciation (the normal play for most people), it doesn't matter as long as you come out ahead on transaction costs when you refinance or move.

It's betting on appreciation, not working toward ownership.

I took out a 30 year mortgage when I could have afforded shorter. I paid it off in 15.

I chose the 30 year because it gave me a lower required payment and, therefore, leeway in the event of a financial setback.

I'd guess that most of the people who take out 50 year loans will make the minimum payment... but folks who do that were always going to make bad decisions.

284 Backing into parking spaces is really dumb.

Combat parking? Its a tactical advantage to back in park. Do it for the garage as well. Good OPSEC too. For example, police usually patrol hotel parking lots with their ALPRs scooping up license plate data to add to the government's tracking database.

And decent cars will back in park for you anyway. I fail to see how having visibility when pulling out of parking spaces is a dumb thing. I would think that leading your car into the parking area with blind spots is dumb.

The idea is to spur home buying be first time buyers. The average age has risen significantly to approximately 40 years old. That's not good for anyone.

As many have noted, few stay in the same home for 30 years let alone 50. Get people in the game, let them start to build some equity and bring that average 1st time purchase age back down. Seems like an idea worth trying.

Of course. It will be a private-label MBS. Fannie and Freddie won't buy them (they don't buy non-conforming loans, at least they're not supposed to) but your pension fund will. Will probably put up a decent return, too, since the initial cashflow is virtually all interest (in the example at 255, the first *year* retires less than $1200 in principal) and the lifecycle of the loan is likely no different from a 30-year loan: that is, about 7-10 years (longer on average, since transaction costs are thing).

“After Tucker Carlson's bizarre defense of Nicolás Maduro—the narcoterrorist wanted by the US—it was revealed that his latest guest works as a lobbyist for the Venezuelan regime and received millions of dollars.

Amsterdam's firm earned over $4 million in just the first four months of the contract with the Maduro regime, starting in January 2020.

According to the relevant FARA filing, Amsterdam was hired to persuade the US to "mitigate or remove sanctions" against Maduro's dictatorship.”

350 I'm not into the whole mortgage cost analysis thing, BUT there are a lot of people that had very small payments after ten years or so (assuming a fixed rate loan), and it was much cheaper than rent, and they had an appreciating asset (and deductible interest). Though plans to escalate RE Taxes could throw a wrench in long term planning, idk.

I'd guess that will be true for the 50 year as well, though in general "Living in Debt" is not a great idea, though our government has lived off debt for a long time (as it "made us" the world's superpower).

Local jurisdiction *really* matters on that front. Some place like California (for all its other faults) and Tennessee have mechanisms in place to constrain that. Most places do not AFAIK, but it will likely become a serious issue as time goes on. Escalating costs absent escalate value makes for serious instability and a lot of resentment - bad stuff, especially when it comes to compliance and resentment.

Funny story with the rivalry: It's my last day at MOS school and me and the other Reservist are waiting for our plane tickets. A discussion happens with a couple of other students and one guy says "Well, I'm a real Marine since I'm active duty and went to PI."

The discussion was on at that point. A few seconds later, I look out of the corner of my eye and see the Warrant Officer peeking in. I call attention on deck and he walks up to me.

"Everything OK?"
"Yes, sir. Just having a bit of a disagreement. It's getting settled."
"Good, good." He takes a step, looks back and says "I can't help but notice that the Reservist was the only one smart enough to call attention on deck" before walking out.

478 Good morning, all. 🙏 J.J.

Federal News Network, Nov. 9, 2025, 'Senate takes first step toward ending the government shutdown'

In part, A bipartisan agreement
"Democrats had voted 14 times not to reopen the government as they demanded the extension of tax credits that make coverage more affordable under the Affordable Care Act. Republicans said they would not negotiate on health care, but GOP leaders have been quietly working with the group of moderates as the contours of an agreement began to emerge.

The agreement includes bipartisan bills worked out by the Senate Appropriations Committee to fund parts of government — food aid, veterans programs and the legislative branch, among other things. All other funding would be extended until the end of January, giving lawmakers more than two months to finish additional spending bills.

The deal would reinstate federal workers who had received reduction in force, or layoff, notices and reimburse states that spent their own funds to keep federal programs running during the shutdown. It would also protect against future reductions in force through January and guarantee federal workers would be paid once the shutdown is over."

cont'd

Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at November 10, 2025 09:37 AM (NFX2v)

479 UNTIL January 2026. (Emphasis added.)

Remember, what finally drives this little 'settlement' was furloughing federal contractors - way more so than any federal employees &/or SNAP recipients - AND funding for the Legislative Branch.

It provides a full-year funding bill for Congress and its support agencies. Funds the GAO at $812 million and the Library of Congress, avoiding significant cuts.

It also increases funding for member security and the Capitol Police.

>US Congressional Election 2026 - Ballotpedia -
In part, "Elections to the U.S. Congress will happen on November 3, 2026. All 435 districts in the U.S. House of Representatives and 33 seats in the U.S. Senate are up for election. Five of the chamber's six non-voting members are also up for election.

Heading into the 2026 general elections, Republicans control both chambers of Congress. They hold a 53-45 majority in the Senate with two independents who caucus with the Democrats. In the House, Republicans have a 219-212 majority with four vacancies."

Remember that.
