Musical Interlude

Song is the extended edition of Lindsay Buckingham's Holiday Road, which he wrote at Harold Ramis' request for National Lampoon's Vacation. Since there's no original music video for the extended edition, this one is taken from clips of Vacation and the second sequel, Vegas Vacation.

Good morning, good people, from the newly winterized Adirondacks. Finally seeing some seasonal temps. I'd just as soon have the warmer ones, personally.

But as normal, may all effort from you result in maximum benefit to you always, with the subsequent grief for the leftwit fungi.

Now to address the over easy egg, hash brown, sausage with kaiser rolls someone I dearly love made.

There are times when i look at the stupid fiasco and think that this is exactly what is supposed to happen. Shutdowns are never a bad thing. There should always be a mechanism in place for the minority party to say "no, we're not doing that". There's nothing overly dramatic about it. It isn't political terrorism. It's applied conservatism. "Washington can't do X" is a good thing for just about every value of X.

But this was a different kind of thing. This was the minority party using that braking mechanism to say "Washington MUST do X, even if there aren't the votes for it". Which is a pretty solid example of political terrorism.

79 the Daily Kos article in its entirety:

Shutdown Capitulation, again? Schumer snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

So it looks like we've found new and innovative ways to humiliate ourselves as a party. Fresh on the heels of a widely lauded concurrent vote in healthcare and the budget, Democrats are now decoupling the two issues.

We're going to reopen the government on the promise of a cloture-strangled vote at a later date. Do you think that a party that doesn't mind abandoning the power of the purse to MAGA pocket recisions is going to hold this vote?

So we'll get nothing. After an election that MAGA is saying blew past their worst case scenarios, we're going to offer a reasonable, coupled vote, then back off?

Defeat from the jaws of victory: the Schumer Doctrine.
