This is such a quiet, pleasant scene and everything in it emphasizes that quality. The simple meal, the healthy people, the ivy peeping through the open window, the use of natural light, the bare bones furnishings, all contribute to the sense of thankfulness. The baby's red and blue clothing is the one bit of bright color in the center of the image; a celebration of the future. If there is a moral it might be that it doesn't take great wealth to have a fulfilling life.
I really enjoy these Dutch Golden Age paintings and the way they use light and color to bring out the qualities of the scene. And they are often just positive and playful in what they show. The sense of comfort and pleasure in this art forms the basis for the luscious still life paintings from the same period. CBD, thanks. This is a nice piece to start the week. Now to look at some of Steen's other paintings. Posted by: JTB at November 10, 2025 09:50 AM (yTvNw) 86

Prayer Before the Meal
Jan Steen (Leiden 1626 – 1679 Leiden) signed and dated in dark paint on last line of large placard: “JAN STEEN 1660” It's a sweet, beautiful paining. The Leiden Collection Currently on view: West Palm Beach, Norton Museum of Art Under entry: In part, "A stanza from Proverbs 30:7–9 inscribed on a placard hanging on the rear wall serves as the family’s creed: “Three things I desire and no more / Above all to love God the Father / Not to covet an abundance of riches / But to desire what the wisest prayed for / An honest life in this vale / In these three all is based.” 2 The family’s plain clothes, simple furniture, bare walls, and modest meal of bread, cheese and ham indicate that they truly live by this creed. As the mother prays while cuddling her child, the father reverently holds his hat before his face.3 A key hanging behind the father symbolizes his trustworthiness.4" - Arthur K. Wheelock Jr., 2017 There was much more about the painting on the above noted site. --- Don't know if I'd hanging this particular painting but it's a very nice opening to the week. Thanks. Eva Lotte Louise Joan Vlaardingerbroek (born 3 September 1996) is a Dutch far-right political commentator and activist. She has been particularly vocal about issues surrounding farmers in the Dutch farmers' protests. She is noted for her criticism of the Dutch government under prime minister Mark Rutte. She has made numerous appearances with American conservative pundit Tucker Carlson, arguing that the Dutch farming crisis is not a result of the nitrogen crisis. She is known for promoting far-right conspiracy theories such as the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, which is a recurrent theme in her speeches and discussions. I ran some numbers on the 50 year mortgage. One thing to look at is when the principal exceeds the interest, which is when the balance really begins to decline. On a 15 year mortgage, the point where principal exceeds the interest occurs in year 5. On a 30 year mortgage, that point is in year 20, and on a 50 year mortgage, that point is in year 40. On a 50 year mortgage, at year 40, the principal is not even halfway paid off.

Re- Dem Shutdown caving
Spineless feckless betraying cowards. Folding when they hold a royal flush. This will go down as one of the worst political moves in US history. Less than a week after epic election wins they throw all momentum away by surrendering completely in a way that makes them 100% own the shutdown. It's proof dem leadership is unfit and controlled opposition. Republicans were prepared to keep this government shutdown for years until Democrats gave in. There was no wining for Democrats. Then they should have avoided a shutdown in the first place. They went through 40 days of posturing and shutting down SNAP and air travel and didn't even prove a point. So basically harm the entire nation to ensure they could harm citizens needing health insurance. Thanks for highlighting the republican terrorist approach to governing. Chuck the Cuck wanted to cave early on in the shutdown, but the massive backlash gave him a temporary spine implant…at least until elections were over...the senators who “took one for the team” were retirees (Durbin and Shaheen) and senators from swing or lean-blue states up next in ‘28 or ‘30. Those are some quality gems today. The Dems had--maybe--24 hours, at best, after last Tuesday to cow the sister Republicans into a deal. After that, everyone would realize it wasn't a growing "wave" for the Dems to win in states that Kamala won--against the actual Trump landslide, no less. Instead, they chose gloating over wins they were heavily favored to win, instead of action. Congratulations. Moral victory (NYC mayor) vs. scoreboard (win the shutdown). Then the kill-shot, folder page three, titled “THE MATH THEY PRAY YOU NEVER SEE”: “$93 trillion over 10 years = $714,000 per U.S. household Average NYC household income under Dem policies: $71k That’s 10 years of every dollar they earn – gone before breakfast.” Kennedy closed the folder, looked straight at AOC: “Darlin’, I did the homework. You want $93 trillion from people who can’t afford groceries while you fly private to COP climate conferences? Take your trust-fund socialism, fold it till it’s all corners, and stick it where the Green New Deal don’t shine.” The chamber didn’t gasp. It stopped breathing. AOC’s mouth opened—no sound. Schumer’s glasses slid down his nose. C-SPAN’s live feed hit 28 million concurrent viewers—highest ever. Kennedy sat down. Folder stayed on the podium like a tombstone. #KennedyMassplode trended #1 worldwide for 36 straight hours. AOC deleted Twitter for 14 hours. Schumer’s office called it “McCarthyism.” Kennedy’s reply, posted with a photo of a Louisiana food-stamp line: “McCarthyism is promising utopia while picking pockets.” The folder is now locked in the Senate archives. Tucker Carlson's indifference to the suffering of Nigerian is proof to me he's not a Christian. He's a phony.

Based on Sander’s and the far left’s reaction, I’d say the dems are at an inflection point/verge of implosion. Although there’s really no longer any such thing as a moderate in the party, the smarter ones in red/purplish states know they can’t go the full AOC and get elected. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out. Especially with Trump dangling stray voltage 80/20 issues (bait) which the lefties can’t help but bite (because at heart they’re spoiled children throwing “gimme!” temper tantrums.)

Making money on other people's money is even freer. Borrow to invest. Don't borrow to live.
Posted by: Don't blame the alligators at November 10, 2025 10:58 AM (1Nv0l) At some point, borrowing to invest becomes not too dissimilar to playing Vegas on your credit card. Buying bonds instead of paying down a cheap mortgage? Pretty safe, since both ends of the scale you have assets to back the debt. Take out an unsecured loan to buy stock in a startup? Way riskier.
