69 Well, his artistic talent is obvious: realistic detail, natural colors, effective perspective. But what is the point of the image? Maybe he was inspired by Georgia O'Keefe. He did another one of a sheep's skull which is even more explicit. It's sad that such talent is wasted with northern European angst. There doesn't seem to be a Carl Larrson in post-WW I Europe.

I was reading a paper on the pathogens in remains of soldiers who were buried in Poland during Napoleon's retreat from Russia, and the main takeaway was that "it wasn't typhus that killed them, but something similar" and the shots of the skeletons under excavation made me realize that those French soldiers had pretty good teeth.

perhaps not the conclusion that the authors were trying to convey.

That's a negative . . .

Posted by: Kindltot at November 14, 2025 09:46 AM (rbvCR)

85 ⁶Now for my untrained commentary:

I like the way he blends the skull in with the landscape, and the fact that it is not the bleached white bone we are used to seeing depicted in pop culture, that makes the blending of foreground and background seem more natural. I also like that the fall foliage in the background is an almost uniform dull brown; a colorful background including reds and yellows probably would not be as effective. I think he probably shows a bit too much of the sky in the picture. Using the scroll function of the website, I think the picture is best with the top ⅛ of the painting removed.

125 I watch the Youtube channel of Serenity Sue in Ireland, who travels around visiting cemeteries, showing ancient graves, crypts, church ruins, etc. It's amazing what modern cameras can see in vaults. The skulls and bones have this brown hue, not the bleached med school look we are used to. The earliest grave she has shown is from AD 632.

146 The Hill: AOC hears growing calls for her to challenge Schumer in New York

I can't imagine why. Looking at his own web site, he has done a good job using the words "demands", "announces" and "meets". Kind of light on actually *doing* anything, though.

I'd prefer her there than some dumb white house bid. After seeing what McConnell was able to do to this country, I'd prefer her there wielding similar but opposing power.

Honestly, she's been mostly consistent in her stances AND she's under 60. Low bar, but here we are. Senate in 28, President in 36? One can dream...

Democrats aren’t getting enough votes from their base to elect a women president in the next decade, unfortunately.

Schumer isn't helping the American people. I'm even becoming skeptical of Hakeem Jeffries. We need people that are going to fight for us. Just saying.

"I am open to suggestions, preferably a solution that allows us to actually preserve the spirit if not the entirety of the Constitution"

Either the Constitution permits what has been done, or is wholly inadequate to prevent it. It needs replaced. I think the most blatant flaws are judges, by which I mean LAWYERS, playing the "you lack standing" game, preventing redress; lack of real penalties for officials violating the clear language and enabling crime and foreign invasion; and tolerance for public plotting of the same. And vote fraud probably needs the death penalty.

In part, "Edgar Fernhout comes from a famous family of artists. He is the son of Charley Toorop and grandson of Jan Toorop and starts painting himself at an early age. Initially he works in a very precise, realistic style. The works from this early period, mainly landscapes and portraits, are also termed magic realism, due to the austere and hushed character of the scenes."

Fernhout made many still lifes during the war years, because he refused to become a member of the Kultuurkamer and was forced to work indoors. In these works the skull is a frequently recurring motif, a reference to the transience of life.

Yes, this is a classic USPS dodge. It is listed as a “part time” gig.

That means nothing. 12 hour shifts, you get one day off every week, which will vary. Trust Me. What the goal is, is to make “Regular”. Then you’ll have a published schedule. With a couple days off now and then, on a regular basis.

Do not get hurt, don’t be late, and don’t steal, and they probably won’t fire you during probation.

222 Even when you get past probationary status, making “regular” status can take months or even years, depending on the office.

Many people wig out and quit. Make sure you’re up to it. 12 hour days get old really quick. You will have no life, because of the hours, and the night shift thing. And it is hard work.

Federal holidays mean nothing, surprisingly enough. You will work all of those, although you’ll get a night differential pay, and Sunday pay. About $22 an hour, maybe.

261 The Senator's wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, has been invaluable to his career.

Wikipedia, in part, "... born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[2][3] When she was seven years old, she came to the United States as an undocumented immigrant with her mother and younger brother, taking up residence in a one-room apartment in New York City.[4][2][5] They left Brazil due to violent crime in their community.[2][6] In New York, the family lived in poverty, and furnished their apartment with furniture they found on the street.[4] Fetterman said that her family often depended on food banks and thrift stores.[2] Her mother, who has a PhD degree from a Brazilian university and had worked as a nutritionist and educator, took jobs cleaning hotels and houses, and was often denied pay due to her status as an undocumented immigrant.[2][6]

Fetterman did not speak English when she arrived in the US, and enrolled in an English as a second language program at her school in Queens.[2] The family later moved to Newark, New Jersey.[6] She studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.[7]

But one unopened bulb turned completely black and a nice open flower is also turning black. I didn't know that could happen. I'm sure they're decades old. It was just weird.

I'm thinking it may be a 'Picture of Dorian Gray' thing. Perhaps it was siphoning off my very negative thoughts this year. Going through the house, I've come across pkenty of disintegrating rubber bands. But things turning black.

Weird. Perfect for this thread though.

He did time at the Hanoi Hilton before being released.

Either the Constitution permits what has been done, or is wholly inadequate to prevent it. It needs replaced. And vote fraud probably needs the death penalty.

368 Trump never described Pedo Island as a hoax. It was a real series of events. Trump used the word "hoax" in referring to Democrat attempts to tie him to the scandal.

And it is a hoax. Trump is not Prince Andrew, Jesse Staley, or John Roberts, or Bill Clinton. Those men were actually involved. Trump was the only man who tried to stop Epstein, volunteered to testify against him, and worked to get Maxwell to leave MAL employees alone.

I know.

The problem is HE'S calling it a hoax, and VOTERS heard him and his Justice Department team tell them we were going to get the information on Day 1.

It's his problem now. Not the crime, the cover up.

Why people here don't understand this is mystifying.

369 My personal take is that the Epshtien Files are a game-playing device for media purposes.

Only worth a comment from me because it's Friday.

370 By the way, Republicans have already tried to release all the Epstein material Congress has (that is not subject to court seal), but Democrats refused to release it. Tennessee representative Tim Burchett made a UC motion on Monday and Democrats said NO.

As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.

You are being a contrarian ass. You spout easily disproved bullshit, and you have the fucking nerve to suggest that others are poorly informed?

That's ballsy, even for a retard like yourself.

373 Burt, I hope you are genuinely confused in conflating these different things so obstinately, because it is getting weird.
