The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

IMG_2512.JPG

“God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next. Amen.”

*****

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

9/28 - Teresa in Fort Worth gave an update: It has been 1 year since Teresa started “down the cancer rabbit hole”. She sends her thanks for the prayers as they have buoyed her and her family through this year. She has been blessed to exceed the original 6-12 months predicted, by the grace of God – and the prayers of many people. Her next CT scan is in November, and the surgeon is pretty sure that her tumors will be small enough to remove/destroy.
10/7 Update – A recent CT scan shows lots of calcification (indicating tumor cell death), and the oncologist didn’t see any sign on the small tumors. The area where the largest tumor was now shows lots of calcification and the largest tumor has shrunk by almost 90%! Her next CT scan will be 11/3, and they assume they will be discussing surgery to remove the lobe of her liver, where the tumor is located. Timelines are uncertain, but she is hopeful that she will get to spend Christmas with her family at least one more time, if not more! Thanks to EVERYONE who has been praying on her behalf.

9/29 – toby928 asked for prayers for a brother named Joe, who is being crushed by grief. Joe’s wife is in a coma and will likely die in the next few days.
10/12 Update - – Joe’s wife did pass away. She is safe in the arms of our Savior.
10/18 Update – Joe could still use prayers. Losing both parents and his wife in one year has hit him hard.

10/1 – Duke Lowell sent an update. He is home now, after 8 days in the hospital and every antibiotic known to man. He sent thanks for the prayers, and thanks to God for granting him another day in this glorious world He’s created.
10/11 Update – After a second stint in the hospital, Duke is home now. He was recovering nicely, but something “knocked him sideways”. Severe dehydration put him into renal failure. He is on the mend now.

10/2 – Bluebell passed along an update: grammie winger sends her gratitude for all the prayers – she feels they are working. On Oct 6 she will be starting a cancer treatment program because her doctors are “cautiously optimistic” that they can give her some more time. Monday she gets the port, followed by 6 hours of chemo infusion on Tuesday. The Rev is doing better because now he has some hope. Please pray for her as she starts this treatment program because in her words, “prayer changes things”.
10/18 Update – grammie winger sent an update, that she has had her first chemo treatment. There were no side effects. She noted “God is very kind.”

10/4 – Skip requested prayers for his dad, who fell at church back in August, hitting his head. He fell again at home and has had back pain since then. He is going in for more tests on 10/8.
10/11 Update – Dad has a brace to wear and has pain medication, so is doing OK for now. He will need an outpatient procedure soon for an injection in his spine to fill a void. Continuing prayers will help.
10/18 Update – Dad is in the hospital, needing some blood clots cleared up, and will soon have the outpatient operation for his back.
10/25 Update – Dad was released from the hospital and is in a rehab center near his home.

10/8 – fourseasons asked for prayers for a brother-in-law, Chris, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had another scan last weekend and there is another tumor. He is losing his vision and has lost his ability to speak. He will have surgery on 10/10, and the surgeon said he will probably lose the ability to walk. The family is devastated. Chris is a wonderful man and has always been healthy.
10/11 Update – Chris is recovering from surgery to remove his brain tumors now. He was talking last night, which he wasn’t able to do before surgery. They are hoping for a full recovery.

10/11 – NuclearJim requests prayers for spiritual strength to defeat prostate cancer.

10/11 – the lower depths asked for prayers for his/her mother Gail and her eyes (macular degeneration) and knees (bone on bone) failing.

10/11 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for her son. He needs a job and has been diligently looking for one. His degree is in botany.

10/11 – tbodie Lurker requested continued prayers for a son with pancreatic cancer. He has been through 3 months of chemo that significantly shrank the cancer. This week he had surgery to remove the remaining cancer. They also removed his spleen. So far things look good. Thank you.

10/11 – Brother Tim asked for prayers as he has two more sessions of radiation. Prayer works and God heals.
10/18 Update – Radiation is done and now Brother Tim is recovering from the effects and praying for a clean PET scan.

10/11 – Ben Had asked for prayers for a very special man we know as olddog. May his medical issues be benign and full health restored.

10/13 – K requested prayers for a co-worker (Grant). Grant and his wife are expecting their first child, and they are experiencing some complications. K would appreciate prayers for peace and a healthy baby for Grant, his wife, and their unborn child.

10/15 – Bulg asked for prayers for an elderly neighbor, who used to babysit for them, is undergoing chemo for colon cancer.

10/16 – jrgunn5 asked for prayers for a son who is going through a very trying time. The son is almost finished with his teaching credentials and Master’s program. He sees other students being offered positions that he is more qualified for, yet he is ignored by the schools where he is working. He is becoming angry and despairing of gaining a position to pay off the enormous debt he has taken on to pursue this career. He needs to hear God’s voice, and a door opening soon would be appreciated.
10/18 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his friend John. John was a functioning alcoholic while working, and then retired about 2 years ago, and is now in rehab. Prayers are also needed for Toni. She had to have a kidney stone crushed and says she will never do surgery again.

10/18 – From about That Time can use prayers, as a biopsy revealed some sort of lymphoma.

10/18 – J.J. Sefton wrote:
First of all I cannot even begin to express my appreciation for all the love, good wishes, support and of course prayers for me over this past year. On a positive note, I am essentially cancer free but glioblastoma being what it is means having an MRI done every 2 months to monitor for any new growth.
Right now, I humbly ask for your prayers for my spouse who was recently diagnosed with NPH, (normal pressure hydrocephalus) She's scheduled for a spinal tap to both drain excess fluid to relieve pain and hopefully restore her ability to walk and engage in routine physical activity. Then an MRI will also help them decide if she needs a shunt to be inserted into the brain to drain excess cerebral/spinal fluid away and into her stomach. I'm guessing she'll likely need it, fingers crossed that we can speed up this process and get her back to 100% ASAP.
God bless you, Prayers from me to all of you who are suffering,

10/21 – TecumsehTea wrote with prayers of praise that she has recovered from her heart attack. Areas of concern, though, are that they cannot keep her blood pressure stable and in a desirable range. This has brought several additional trips to the ER to bring it down and for observation. She is asking for wisdom and guidance for the doctor, and patience and peace for herself. She says this has been a scary ride, but God continues to show His faithfulness.

10/21 – Grateful wrote to ask for prayers for Pillage Idiot, that God would guide him in his search for employment – resulting in an opportunity that makes the best use of his unique skills. And that PI be blessed with acceptance of their love and caring for him, as he does for everyone else.

10/22 – Pennsyltucky requested prayers for his dad, who underwent cancer surgery on 10/21. Everything seems to have gone well (they’re confident they got it all!) but due to his age, his hospital stay and convalescence will be longer than usual. Dad is doing well, is awake and alert. A full recovery is anticipated but it will take a while. Thank you so much.

10/23 – Grumpy and Recalcitrant asked for prayers for TheJamesMadison, who recently lost his job. Please pray that he finds a new job quickly, and that God grants him peace of mind and calmness of spirit to face this unexpected trial.

10/25 – M&B would like prayers for M's sister. Suddenly, she got dizzy, and with no other symptoms, was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. Surgeons said that they were able to remove most of it but gave her an 18-24 month survival. She's just finished the first round of chemo and radiation, and she just feels awful. She has that "deer in the headlights" look, since this all happened so fast, with no real symptoms! M&B have been searching through all the recent news about other medicinal options that are working for this type of cancer. We are grateful for all prayers!

10/25 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for her retired organist Jessie, whose dear daughter, S, died of cancer recently. Also prayers for Korean War vet, R, who has cancer and is not expected to live long.

10/27 – N asked for prayers for her youngest daughter, "LK", who needs prayers for safety and peace, and her best friend "C" for health and that stress not cause a flare up of psoriatic arthritis as they and another roommate work with the police and the landlord to have the 4th roommate "M" evicted because she is threatening them and making the living situation a nightmare. “M” is bipolar and medicating with alcohol. Prayers for her healing and that she find salvation from the self-destructive path she's on would also be appreciated.

11/5 – Mary Poppins’ Practically Perfect Piercing said she could use a prayer or two. She has a pain in her head which, it seems, is occipital neuralgia. It’s not fatal, thank heavens, but is painful until a proper treatment course is settled upon. Many thanks.

11/6 - D sent an update for Susan, his wife, and her battle with cancer. He sent his thanks to everyone for the prayers. They are helping and much appreciated. Susan had an infection which is being treated, but her sodium levels are bad again. She will be sent home soon, but is on restrictive fluids until this is cleared up. The good news is that she has gained some weight back and her voice is much stronger now. Thank you, and please keep up the prayers. They appreciate everyone!

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

29 "N" is me, and that situation still needs lots of prayer. LK and C have been staying at a hotel to avoid M who wants to fight whenever she sees either. M is supposed to move out the end of December, but that feels like a very long time when C still needs to attend her classes and keep her psoriatic arthritis in check.

It's also a shame, because when we first met M she seemed very nice and like a wonderful person. I don't know if it was an act or if that wonderful person is buried under the mental illness.

39 I have a question for the Catholic folks. I sometimes go to the local Catholic Church near me ( and yes, as I have said before, I do not take the Eucharist). I like the young priest very much. He is in his thirties and ordained within the past few years. He is from a country where the major language is Spanish, so he does the Spanish masses and also several English ones during the week. What I like about him is that his homilies are very good , and also that he has a lot of time for reverent silences.

Anyway, here's my questions. When do these folks have a day off. If you're saying 10 masses a week it must be hard. Do they have fill in priests?

44 The Serenity Prayer has similar themes as the last prayer of the Divine Mercy Chaplet:

Eternal God, whose mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us, so that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

They also get vacations when either other priests in the parish take over more Masses or a visiting one covers for them. There are also days (usually secular holidays) where less Masses than usual are offered.

There are married Catholic priests, usually of the Eastern rites, but some are converts (lots of Anglicans) because celibate clergy is a rule, not dogma. There is an association of married priests whose position is that things should stay as they are as the workload is very challenging to do with a family.

It is worth noting that when Scott Hahn and Taylor Marshall converted to Catholicism, neither sought admission into the priesthood but chose to remain part of the laity (Hahn was a Reformed minister, Marshall an Anglican priest).

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at November 08, 2025 08:39 AM (ZOv7s)

64 Do priests still do confessions?

Not being a catholic and only seeing it the movies or TV, I always assumed there's a priest sitting in the confessional 24/7.

Do they have set days/times for confessions or what?

Given the size of his family, it would have been really hard on everyone.

Our deacons are getting up there, and when I was still in the Guard I figured that when I retired, I would look into it. As a start I became an extraordinary minister (no, it's not like that) and sacristan, which gave me a lot of insight, but life intervened and I'm starting to think that I my calling is just to help out where possible. I used bullet points.

When I made the decision to enter the Church, I assumed I'd never been baptized (my parents being very irreligious). Turns out both my mother and her mother secretly baptized me right after I was born. My mother was brought up Catholic, publicly rejected it, but still felt the need. My grandmother was not going to allow her grandson to go unbaptized, so she did the deed. Without any other witnesses, I got a conditional baptism.

As was my wife. Her decision to become Catholic was not a popular one in her family. To her the Church is like the Expanded Universe because the canon is bigger, lots of devotions and of course the body of literature is so vast.

My mother's parents were Catholic, so I went to Midnight Mass at Christmas and usually a Mass at Easter when we visited. My father's parents were United Methodists, and on weekend when I visited him (after the divorce) I stayed with them as he worked Saturday evenings, so I had to go to church, which I found very boring. At least in the Mass you can stand up, sit down, kneel and say stuff. All the Methodists did was sing and talk. So much singing, so much talking. I was not a fan, and neither was my father.

I was one of those "spiritual, not religious" types, and for about a year in college hung with the Campus Crusade for Christ types (imagine using that name today!), but drifted away, no doubt because I was too enamored of sin.

I was very much of St. Augustine in those days: "Lord make me chaste, but not just yet!"

Singing is the only thing I ever liked about church. So, that's one of my dislikes about the Catholic church. Not much, if any, singing.

Of course, there's nothing to stop me from singing on my own time, and I do, but there's something earnest and divine about bad singers making a joyful noise.

I told her to just say "Look, mistakes were made; let's not play the blame game." She also had to get annulments on her prior marriages, which took quite a bit of time and effort including sending paperwork to the Vatican for review.

For a brief period in the 1990s, my mother came back to the Church, but eventually left again. I think she's Anglican now. She's changed churches multiple times, but her true faith - the Democrat Party - has never left her.

It's sad. She's not in good health, and yet she spends all her time fighting White Christian Nationalism rather than developing relationships with her grandkids and great-grandkids. The supreme irony is that my misanthropic father who never wanted kids and was indifferent to them has actually turned over a new leaf and loves spending time with the great-grandkids.

141 Do priests still do confessions?

Not being a catholic and only seeing it the movies or TV, I always assumed there's a priest sitting in the confessional 24/7.

Do they have set days/times for confessions or what?

142 Having had friends and close relatives go through the AA (and a couple in NarcAnon, which is similar) I must say that they, even though not being an overtly Christian organization, encourage one of the most practical and effective guides to Confession I have known. Most people are probably familiar with this, but they ask everyone in their program who is recovering to think of everyone they have harmed by their past actions, and then to contact them (if possible) , confess what the have done, and express sincere repentance.
Confession to God is also important, acceptance of responsibility for one’s past actions is probably the most important of all. (For the psyche of the one confessing)
A mistake that is easily made is to tell oneself that you can confess to God, but forget about the ones you harmed. Because that’s the really hard part.

Confessions in the West are usually at a set time; our parish has the on Saturdays before vigil Mass, and is starting to also offer them midweek.

Even the daily Mass has quite a bit of singing. There are traditionally five hymns (usually more during Communion) during the Novus Ordo Mass. I've yet to go to a TLM, but I hear they are great.

When I can, I got to the Thursday morning Mass at our parish because that's when the school kids go, and there is something about children singing hymns that seems very angelic.

Military Masses in the field are quite the austere affair, but I found them to be deeply spiritual. The one I attended in New Orleans during the oil spill was profound. Held in an office conference room, truly "joint" so you had all services all ranks, yet we were one, united in Christ. The homily was spot on and we all left visibly refreshed by the Eucharist.

One of the few bright spots of that thoroughly miserable experience.

This area was settled only about 150 years ago, so graves rarely go back before the 1870s, and some have been overtaken by suburbs. Lots of family plots, with a single family marker and then smaller ones labeled "Father," "Mother" and so on. Also infant and child markers, which used to be all too common.

Some names are repeated on road signs, which is interesting as well. It is a very peaceful experience, and we took the grandkids with us on one trip and they prayed for their father's soul.

189 I know it's Saturday morning, but this is so spot on, I have to mention it.

the greatest danger of having lived for so long in a very high-trust society of people with low time preferences (ability to delay immediate gratification for long-term gain) is that you lose the ability to imagine how low-trust people with high time preferences behave.

you assume that if you invite them into your system that they will act as you do.

instead they act as they always have.

accommodation is seen as weakness to be taken advantage of, and the harder you try to be nice or lenient, the more aggressive the depredations become.

it's a fundamental misapprehension of mindset and a desperately expensive luxury belief.

I’m a bit more open, I believe it’s possible as long as we never forget what Churchill among others has said - you’ve got to always keep your foot on their neck, or they’ll be at your throat.

Hence the Yard Sign Calvinism - by these yard signs they are saved. New ones are popping up that are even more strident: "It's clear that we don't have a difference of opinion, but a difference in morality."

Right, and you're the moral one, with the tranny flag who wants to kill inconvenient babies and sterilize the depressed ones who survive.

At least the former school board president - a white lesbian woman with a penchant for adopting black boys (that way she can fret about her black sons) - placed dead last in the city council election last week. The overall highest vote-getter was the school resource officer she fired because George Floyd overdosed and our local cops had to be kicked off campus because they would shoot her black boys.

One of the graves had two stones placed next to it, his first and second wife. His first wife died at 18, presumably in childbirth. His second wife - whom he married seven years later, was older, and she died at 40. He outlived them both.

Another grave had husband and wife together. He was one year older, and died one year before she did, which is not uncommon.

221 I like old cemeteries; there’s an old one in Shreveport where it’s obvious how many victims of the “Spanish Flu” (1919 -20) there were.

My funniest moment in an old cemetery was when I was doing oilfield work in the 80’s, in rural central Texas, and me and a couple of the guys had 3 or 4 hours to kill. So we decided to drive around a bit, and found an old country cemetery with one those old cast iron fences with faux spearpoints as finials on it, about 4’ tall. One of guys wanted to show off as to how he could jump it, and he almost made it - except one of those points caught his jeans just above the hem and he crashed to the ground with his foot pinned 4 feet up in the air , unable to move at all.
We let him wail and beg for help for a couple minutes while we rolled on the ground laughing . Then we finally helped him take his pants off (with his leg still up in the air) the only way for him to get loose of the trap.
We reminded him of that for years.

No matter how much you think it's needed.) is having a mental meltdown and is being egged on by a malicious former employee. She's in a bad place, and the *best* result we're foreseeing is the loss of a decades-long friendship. Likely she and her husband are having problems, too, which doesn't help. Anyway, we would appreciate prayers for all concerned.

Saw del Toro's "Frankenstein" yesterday.

Basically, Frankenstein with Daddy Issues and Sex appeal.

GdT continues his dealio with humans being the real monsters. So Frankenstein is the monster and the Monster is the Lost and Alone Hero who the girl falls in love with.

I would like a real Frankenstein movie adhering to the book one of these days.

Anywho, movie looks beautiful, which is GdT's real gift. As a movie though it just kind of peters out to a damp, soggy ending, because-

all the conflict is squeezed out of it by turning Dr F into just another terrible, white guy mustache twirling villain until the limp ending.

Eh, not horrible or anything but not really worth your time either. Flip a coin.

Right, and you're the moral one, with the tranny flag who wants to kill inconvenient babies and sterilize the depressed ones who survive.

And since they categorically reject the morality of the Creator of the Universe, the question then becomes, on what authority do they establish their "morality"?

If the person in the mirror, or a consensus of their Leftist idiot friends is that authority, the narcissism meter is pegged and they have been completely caught up in Mass Formation Psychosis. (aka Mimetic Theory's "Doublebind")

Something I learned is that she was always that way, always putting 'the cause' (really The Party) before all other things. It wasn't just me, it was him, her parents, etc. Once I reached adulthood and realized why my childhood had been trashed, I was angry, but now I'm sad because she's still unhappy and has missed out on the best part of life - having close, meaningful relationships with grandkids.

And now great-grandkids! It's a blessing to have them enter the scene so soon. Most of my great-grandparents were dead by the time I came into the world, but they know and love my father, and would love her, if they ever saw her. She's visiting a week from today, so we'll see how it goes.

But our current church has great teaching and fellowship AND a more traditional service format, which I love. It's PCA church (we've never been Presbyterians before).

Anyway, it's perfect for this time in our spiritual journeys and for preparation for the challenges to come. I felt a more serious church is important since the left is itching to start some serious persecution. We've got to be spiritually prepared.

She said: "Go ahead! I don't have a problem with that."

I said there might be a spot of bother should someone happen to drop in. She said that with anyone else, yes, but with me, no. Everyone knows you're an odd duck, Lloyd.

So I stretched out and closed my eyes and began to settle in but after a couple of minutes was awakened by laughter. I opened my eyes and an 0-5 was standing there. I started to stand up and he said: "No, don't get up, carry on Lloyd. You're the only person I've seen today who is doing something productive."

The orderly smiled and said: "See, I told you so."

One reason:

Discovery of the devices between 12:40 and 1:05 p.m. respectively on Jan. 6 drew already depleted police resources away from the Capitol just as a huge crowd breached the grounds at 12:53 p.m. A joint session of Congress convened at 1 p.m. to take up challenges to the certification of the Electoral College vote from the 2020 presidential election.

Another possible reason: she attempted to plant one of the fake bombs outside of the Congressional Black Caucus building, as to make it about race (after 5 months of BLM riots, an attempted bombing of black Congressman would re-ignite the BLM mob).

He got a few huge slabs that were like an inch thick and as big as a dinner plate, and then four small filet mingons for his spousal unit and leftovers.
They were worth it.

He also got some 'homemade' cinnamon buns with icing in a bucket. Probably top 3 cinnamon bun I've ever had.

Good luck.

The last of our show dogs before my wife passed is going for her championship this weekend in Kalamazoo.

Hoping she gets it (needs 4 points with a major) so she can come home.

363 >>Kerkhoff was the star witness against Guy Reffitt during his J6 trial. 7.5 years, but never entered Capitol. Hope he sues her.

Wow. Evil.

Also worth recalling: Who was in charge of the Capital Police on J6? House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi. Someone who ultimately reported to her planted the fake bombs. The plot came from inside the Capital.
