Virginia voters just handed the state's top law enforcement job to a man who fantasizes about shooting Republicans in the head. Democrat Jay Jones, a former state delegate with a history of unhinged remarks, narrowly defeated Republican incumbent Jason Miyares on Tuesday, winning 51.6% of the vote with 80% of precincts reporting, according to the Associated Press. His victory marks a stunning comeback for a candidate who spent the final stretch of the campaign explaining away violent threats and a sketchy community service arrangement tied to a reckless driving case.
Jones's troubles began when 2022 text messages surfaced in which he told then--Republican colleague Carrie Coyner he'd give former House Speaker Todd Gilbert "two bullets to the head" and "piss on his grave." Coyner also recalled Jones remarking in 2020 that "the deaths of a few police officers could save other lives."
Just two days before those texts leaked, court records revealed that Jones had satisfied a reckless driving sentence -- after being caught going 116 mph in a 70 -- by logging half of his required 1,000 hours of community service with his own political action committee, Meet Our Moment. Prosecutors later appointed a special investigator to look into whether Jones misrepresented those hours. The deal spared him jail time and left him with only a $1,500 fine.
Miyares, whose mother escaped communist Cuba and who made history in 2021 as Virginia's first Hispanic attorney general, ran on law and order. But Democrats rallied around Jones despite the violent rhetoric and ethics questions, proving once again that partisan loyalty trumps basic decency.

I don't know what to say anymore to you guys, except that I don't recognize the country I grew up in. Virginia Democrats elected a governor who encouraged people to embrace their rage and gave the nod to a man who said that he would put two bullets in the head of one of his colleagues and be happy to see his children die in their mother's arms.
Only 46% of Virginia voters thought that was disqualifying, and as far as I can tell, every single one of them was a Republican.

They’re almost never wrong by afternoon Election Day. They’re often wrong leading up to the election. Jones was at 35% on Monday for instance. But once people start reporting turnout at specific precincts on Election Day betting markets are VERY accurate.

Last year Trump was in the 70s by afternoon E-Day, before they counted any votes. I knew he’d win when I saw that.

But that's all fixed now. I just have to put the headrest on and then mount it all together.

By the time I got to the next step and began attaching them to the backrest, I had already attached and sealed the armrests into place.

It would make more sense to restrict voting to those who have skin in the game. If you own property, or are a net payer of income tax, you get a vote. If you are a parasite, no vote.

My county was 84% turnout last year. 84. Which is unheard of in US elections. Clean sweep of all races by actual conservatives running for state house and senate seats. Trump won the county with 65% of the vote.

Yesterday turnout was …wait for it…. 32%!! Thirty fucking two percent. So more than 2/3 of people shrugged and couldn't’ bother to take 10 minutes out of their day to vote.

And all local races were won by leftists, decisively so. Because the left shows up for every election, big or small. It’s what they do.

VA has an election every f*cking year.
It is not a "mandate!" or a "complete repudiation of trump!" for a state that's been getting bluer for a decade or more to have gone blue, especially given our "tradition" of voting statewide offices opposite to the preceding year's presidential.
Add in the dynamic of large population centers in NoVA and Tidewater that are dominated by federal employees and federal contractors overwhelming RoVA (our "rest of Virginia" version of "flyover"), and this was pretty much baked in.
The gender gap on voting was ten tons of wine moms still livid that bad orangeman won last year, and a lot of them "christian", who dismissed Jones' remarks as a joke that naz!s are just too stupid and evil to get.
I am not happy about the results here, but I am not surprised.

My county has 20% turnout in off year elections and that is typically when the school districts submit their property tax increases. This year we got zero information from the GOP on their voting recommendations. I don't think she ran a bad campaign. It's just that despite her strong background, she isn't charismatic or even likeable. While a lot of us liked her aggressive demeanor at the debate, I thought that would turn a lot of mid-range voters off. I think I was right. (I said the same about Kari Lake when she lost AZ.)

I hate to say it, but at the debate she came across similar to the Angry Black Woman that we are always making fun of when it's a democrap. Meanwhile, that gruesome AWFL just did her Stepford Wife impression and came off looking calmer and more capable.

Well he's not wrong. When the job postings are for "unpaid entry level internship, Masters required, PhD preferred, 5-7 years previous experience necessary" it's not much of a motivator. Or when the entry level salary for a professional position is the same as it was in 1998, and they want 80 hours a week from you, people offering alternatives start looking attractive even if the alternative ultimately sucks. Tone-deafness, shitty immigration policy, shitty economic policy, corporate slop, and "well nobody wants to work anymore" coming from every LinkedIn CEO isn't a recipe for success.

537 I live in VA and the GOP has always been the unserious party here. Half the time they run a shitty candidate that runs a campaign on 4 or 8 year old issues.

From the ads that ran, the only thing Sears was campaigning on was men in locker rooms. That worked 4 years ago when the Dems were pushing hard on that, but not this year when Trump is cleaning that up.

Miyares made his whole campaign on Jone's texts, and then Sears made her ads on Jone's texts. That was an issue that would have been best left to the last few weeks of the campaign instead of a month and a half.

Sears lost about 200K votes that Youngkin received, Spanberger got about 300K more voters than McAuliffe got. Sears was just a bad candidate that hurt down ticket races.

Congress also has the sole power to declare war. How many wars and conflicts has the US endured since 1945? We can only control a small amount in our lives. Politics is not one we can, so I just roll with it and enjoy life the best I can.

Twenty-five years, almost to the day, for NYC to elect this creep after 9/11 is mind boggling. As some say, many of the people voting are too young to remember. Some wacky liberal women, like my late MIL (who voted for Barky as her late Reagan Republican husband rolled in his grave), possibly did this for "history" and "forgiving" and "inclusion." Probably women with 1000 cats who get that brain parasite from the kitty litter or their puthy hats.

My husband, from Long Island, felt that NYC almost deserves this as they've let the city descend into a spiral of filth, illegals and drugs. We'll see, but it is sad to think about, therefore I try not to. Glad I enjoyed NYC in the early 2000's.

I'll grant that there's precedent - The Dred Scott decision comes to mind, but Roberts has been cognizant of keeping the Court out of the business of deciding Legislative-Executive turf conflicts. As a matter of fact, this is a suit brought by agents of several states, not Congress. So, standing for Dem AGs and not for GOP AGs?

This is an example of what happens when the GOP tries to play identity politics with the Democrats by nominating an unqualified racial minority.
