DC-based tech startup Besxar has signed a deal with SpaceX for 12 launches of experimental chip fabrication hardware. (Tom's Hardware)

The idea being that on the ground, maintaining a hard vacuum is difficult and expensive but essential for chip production. In space, though, you can just open a window.

The tricky part - and a key point in these experiments - is seeing if wafers can be launched into orbit and returned intact.

A very unique drummer. He added melodic color as well as rhythm in a bunch of small combos.

Probably most well known for working with Keith Jarret.

One of my favorite albums he played on is "Timeless' with John Abercrombie and Jan Hammer. A seriously unique piece of work.

I think I paid like $60 in January of last year for the 32GB in my PC now.

Tom’s mentioned the CEO of Phison said NAND prices could be this high for a decade because of AI. A decent kit of RAM will be as expensive as a new CPU.

Apparently some heavy Jewish areas voted for Mamdami. So sad.

The comments at the site where I saw the map were interesting. The original poster was excited to have Mamdami graduate from the same science charter school. I think he thought he'd get a lot of alumni also excited by the news. The comments mostly blasted Mamdami, though! One said he wants to ban the same charter schools he benefited from. Good point.

The map shows where we have work to do. Someone please clone Scott Pressler and send him there. Scott was so excited about trying to make NJ more red. Alas it was not to be.

A couple of people have asked how I made this video so here we go -
I took a clip from a 1964 live version of Take Five ( • Dave Brubeck - Take Five ) and made the drum loop by chopping up the intro and turning it from 5/4 into the 3/4 - 4/4 groove that Golden Brown has. The upright bass sound is sequenced from Logic, and the piano part was played in using one of the piano sounds from a Nord Electro 5D. Then I played the sax part over the top (I play a King Zephyr alto and for this I used a hard rubber Yanigasawa mouthpiece rather than my usual bright Guardala).
The video was then edited using the clip I'd taken the drum loop from.

I bought a 2 x 2 x 1 square of OwensCorning insulation -- something that felt like styrofoam, but more rigid -- a packet of foam panels especially for insulating window A/C setups, and a knife. Back home, I measured what I needed on the big square, used my pocket knife to cut and then trim, and wedged both pieces in place on either side of the A/C unit. Done; no drafts. I'll return the unopened foam packet and knife today.

I'd hoped to put something similar on the outside, but I'd have to buy another big square ($10), and there really isn't any way to wedge the stuff in place outside.

This is something that catches me over time and I end up losing sleep, waking up achey with a miserable headache, and just having really bad days until I actually notice that the condition of the pillow has degraded, and that I need to go buy myself a new one.

89 It's interesting to see how few foreign cars there are, relatively speaking, in the QM shows of the '70s. They were set and shot in LA for the most part. Yet the leads drove US cars (all Fords, Mercurys, or Lincolns), as did the other characters -- unless they were shown as wealthy. Then you'd see Mercedes sedans, or the two-seater SLs, usually for the wealthy man's wife.

Not many Saabs or Volvos yet, no Peugeots or Maseratis that I can recall, and very rarely a British car like a Jaguar -- though mostly that would be the famous E-type roadster.

I did wedge some foam tape around one block which seemed to me to have a little gap between it and the unit. There was no light showing and no air movement, but I did it just to be careful.

Dagny has shown no interest in my previous tape/foam jury-rigging there. Stirling has been the troublemaker. Now there will be nothing there to attract his attention, just smooth panels. (I hope.)

I remembered it from my boyhood, and was pleased to find the show was as much fun for me as an adult. There was one story where Stu Bailey and a motley group are stuck on an island -- shades of Lost -- and one with no dialogue whatsoever. Apparently there was a writer's strike at the time, and Roger Smith ("Jeff Spencer"), not a Writer's Guild member, dashed off a fascinating script featuring his character which is utterly carried by notes and physical movement, no dialog at all.

If you don't use noScript browser add on, give it a try. Odd browser issues I'd attribute to wonky scripts and ads, before thinking about it as an odd OS/browser combo issue.

Although, I did see a weird issue pop up yesterday, where full-screen Twitch video seemed to cause a reversion to default screen mirroring.

My installation is a carry-over/upgrade from many past versions. I'm currently on:
- Linux Mint 22.2 (menu - welcome)
- Cinnamon 6.4.8 (cinnamon --version)
- Kernel 6.8.0-86-generic (uname -a)
- Firefox is version 144.0, mint-001 1.0 sub-version. (Help - About Firefox)

I'm not experiencing any problems, but I've heard that there's differences between upgrading and doing a fresh install in some of the Linux Mint forum posts. This issue might fall into that category if yours is a fresh install.

At first, a lot of sites will be utterly broken until you figure out what you need to allow. Some things like doubleclick.net and google-analytics.com you can permanently DISallow (mark as "Untrusted") and their javascript will never run on any page you visit.

Simply searching "What is {domain name}" for any site you don't recognize will tell you whether it's one you want to allow or not. If it's analytics or marketing, you probably want to mark it as "Untrusted".

Fun Fact: Dallas has more capital finance company’s than NYC, and stock trades are done with computers nearly exclusively.

269 Kathy Hochul is going into a tough campaign for governor next year, she isn't doing the well in the polls. So she has to be careful about how much she supports the mayor Mamdani. NYC does have a huge debt, so bankruptcy (2nd time) could be in the cards. The last bankruptcy was helped by the federal government, I don't expect Trump to lift a finger to help this time. I'd like to see Wall Street make the break and become the Wall Street which can be anywhere, with technology it can be.
