You may have missed it, but our city council election went a very similar way. Two open seats, six candidates. The number one vote-getter was the former school resource officer (cop-in-residence) who was hugely popular with the students and kept the school orderly and friendly. After George Floyd overdosed, the local police were blamed, and the relationship ended.

The school board president who fired him, also ran, and finished dead last. It was a beautiful thing. The other winner was a black dude who ran on "the taxes are too high" platform. Even better, a millage proposal got wrecked with 61% voting NO in my leafy college town.

Our older cat has a nervous disposition, so she's no fun to mess around with. Will bite if pushed.

The younger one is very loving but not very bright. Misses obvious cues, which drives the other one nuts. Both will play with string and stuff, although the older one has less energy.

I'm the same way these days.

This doesn't apply to everyone but, in my case I was depressed with no purpose in life. But not suicidal. I would like to credit that to strong character but truth is I'm just not wired that way. Everyone talks about the suicide, I wish they would talk about those of us who chose to stay. We linger on the edge of life. Can't die, can't live either. Everything is grey dull and bland. There's no joy.

Those who stay, the one's who are NOT suicidal will still take risks as if their life had little value. It may be a way to find peace without taking your own life (which is seen as cowardly by people who think they know emotional pain). So you tempt fate, you entertain risks that a man with a future would avoid. Saying "I'm not going to eat a shotgun but... a bit of daredevil skydiving wouldn't be a bad way to go"

I think it's a wiring thing. Some people, and it seems to mostly be men, are drawn to things that are big adrenaline rushes for them. It can be explained but I think it's personal for everyone and only people who do risky things understand why they do it.

Milo is at least witty. He has a nice turn of phrase, and much of his flirtation with extremism is more properly understood as classical British satire, which doesn't translate well over here. Basically, one tells whopping lies with a straight face and see how long people take to figure it out, and when called on it, refuse to admit it was a joke. It's very weird, but has a long pedigree.

But he's also transparently in it for fame and money, which I supposed adds to the irony. Since I get bored with all this joke-inside-a-joke b.s., I generally don't care.

Adams was a failure because he couldn't figure out if he was BLM and anti-incarceration or a Trump convert, and in the process pissed everyone off. During my brief experience of Civil War reenactment, I understood a shebang to be when shelter halves were grouped together to create an extended tent. Each soldier was issued a shelter half, and putting it together with your bunkmate created an a-frame tent with the ends open. This was not very warm, but if you kept adding pieces, you could build a warmer structure. At the event I attended, one of the units created a shebang and it was a crazy-quit tent.

So the "whole shebang" would be all the shelter halves.
