Halloween Friday Cafe

t1000costume.png

T-1000 costume. I'll post a few more below, thanks to the Massimo/@RainMaker1973 account.

Beware of deceitful children tricking you into giving them triple treats.

Here's a scary scene for you: The Devil himself, confronting none other than Mr. Rourke.

KISS's first appearance on TV, from 1974.

Baby elephant keeps close to her mama's skirts.

Carrie costume:

carriecostume.jpg

Super Dave Osborne's first stunt. This is history right here.

Garret sent this over. It's another one of his favorites. More clips from Garret's favorite Center Square Halloween Special.

So I had those links yesterday, but then Soothsayer one-upped me and linked the entire Paul Lynde Halloween Special. I think I saw that. I remember this stupid joke about KISS, something about them fighting as kids, so their moms told them to "kiss and make up." I'm guessing that terrible joke is from this special.

Adorable Caddyshack costume. The kid has no idea what's going on but I'm sure it's fun for his father.

Possum gets a good spooking. And a cougar also gets a good spook.

This is my favorite Halloween costume. First I thought it was just fake. Now I think it's real, and ingenious.

Halloween party snacks. More snacks.

Halloween nachos.

Possibly excessive.

The Japanese lead the world in the Cute/Nightmarish aesthetic.

I rate this as my least favorite costume. You were warned.

A classic.

It was bad. You do one pair, another waits and then moves in. It's like they wanted me just to stand there, serving them one after the other. Some of the loons didn't even have their bags out, like I have time to wait for them fumbling with their gear.

29 Well this was willowed. I guess its better off here anyway.

Mrs B went to a wedding with her friend tonight. Halloween themed. She had to wear a costume. She holds up 3 costumes. One was a cheerleader, not bad since she was one in high school. The second was a ballet chick, also not bad since she did that for years. The 3rd was a witch. I said well, you would make a good witch. She looked me. I followed up quick with " well you were never a witch before". She says "nice save". At that point I'm glad I didn't add that it was a bit more age appropriate. lol

She did actually look good as a witch. She had a cool choker necklace with little bats, the dress was kinda Elvira like, and wore her black harley boots.

54 My brother went to a party as the original terminator one year. Holy shit, the way he did the costume. He had the jeans, biker leather, the easy parts, but the face...damn. He made it to look like the terminator near the end of the move with the messed up face with the one glowing eye. He found a chrome terminator skull with eyes that lit up. He cut the skull apart to use the whole area around the one eye socket and part of the forehead, grafted it to his face and blended it using latex, hid the wires for the glowing eye under the latex and up over his ear, and then did all the torn flesh around the eye and parts of the face. Damn it looked real, frigging creepy. He won first place for that.

I think Glenn Reynolds (and certainly Ed Driscoll) are still dreaming of "Big Tent" conservatism, which is why NeverTrumpers get linked so often - although they're usually cagey about it; they'll go back 8 or 10 years to find a quote from, say, Jonah Goldberg that is consistent with garden variety conservatism (the same with Kevin Williamsom and others of that stamp). The problem is, the only interest the NeverTrumpers have in a big tent is to get in out of the rain occasionally and mooch the BBQ.

110 Paula Sevenbergen is writing an homage to Carrie for Mad Cave - no, that's not the joke. It's called "Flow" and it's a comic series.
Actually there's no joke.
"Flow" is about a sheltered teenager Dara Lund (hey, swedish name, might this be a self-insert...) who gets that first titular flow in a summer camp, and is of course bullied by girls who should know better, because girls are evil. They convince Dara she is cursed so get her to do humiliating rituals.
Now all the girls are grown up and are experiencing supernatural curses of their own.

Apparently Stephen King (who is an asshole) knew what he was talking about with Carrie and that is why women are still taking it seriously.

130 Paul Lynde, like Garrett, is best taken in very small doses. He had a series in 1972, the Paul Lynde Show. He played a suburban Dad. It was awful. He looked miserable and he made everyone miserable.
Pamelyn Ferdin played his daughter and she hated it. Worse was that she had to be replaced as Edna Unger on The Odd Couple, a job she really loved. Both Klugman and Randall treated her like a niece.
Lynde never called her anything but "kid" and she didn't like him as he as always cranky.

One minute quips on Hollywood Squares or pop-in as Uncle Arthur, Lynde was bearable, sustaining a series-NO!!

Whatever Verhoeven's intentions, imagine the movie really happened to us. Wouldn't it be GREAT if humanity really could be as nobly motivated and organized and united as the "satire" movie depicts? It shows the best of the best for us to laff at, but you can react to it positively too.

Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.

I am hereby making Nigeria a "COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN" — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!

I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me.

The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!

I did a search on her when people first started going gaga over her. Yeah, there are some pics of her that are not that good, and her face is weird. But, there are other pics that look really good. With her it seems to depend on makeup, expression, and angle of the pictures. She doesn't have much makeup on in a lot of the pics, and she still can look good. Its a mixed bag, but she is not ugly by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, Ace, according to the Internet: Twix was invented in 1967 in the United Kingdom by Mars, Inc.. It was initially sold under the name "Raider" in the UK and other European countries before being introduced to the United States in 1979 and renamed Twix.

*This is a concise, values-driven leadership mantra rather than a traditional mission statement. It’s written in the first person, all-caps for emphasis, and uses the word “BECAUSE” as a hinge to connect vision (boardroom elevation) with rationale (strategic integration) and secondary focus (next-gen leaders). It signals an executive who sees resilience not as a buzzword but as a strategic capability that must be governed from the top.

Most execs talk about resilience; this one talks governance of resilience. Positions speaker as strategic translator between board and middle management."

The most beautiful face can cover the nastiest person you've ever met. Eventually, it shows.

Youth fades, for both men and women, but I still think DH is the most handsome person I have ever met. He's gone gray, gained weight, farts a lot, and long ago abandoned the mullet (thank heaven), but I think he is positively adorable, so I adore him.

YMMV.

Big problem. Ever see a woman put on eye liner or lipstick while merging on the interstate? No one is safe!

351 I told myself that love would come later, that I would be a fool if I missed this opportunity. Best decision I ever made.

Awwww...how sweet!

Seriously, congratulations!

352 24 years and still strong It's the kind of love that Catelyn Stark talked about in GoT:

"Love didn’t just happen to us. We built it slowly over the years, stone by stone, for you, for your brothers and sisters, for all of us. It is not as exciting as secret passion in the woods, but it is stronger. It lasts longer,”

I've been head over heals in love, for 10 years. Moments of pure bliss, moments of debilitating pain. It was wonderful but unhealthy. I have felt the full power of Aphrodite and she is no sexualized bimbo. I'm lucky to have experienced that but it wasn't sustainable. Better a cozy winter blanket than sexy lingerie.

353 That witch pumpkin carving was at the Chicago Botanic Garden -- they have an annual pumpkin carving display which is mighty cool. I recognize it from the "Season of the Witch" background song.
