34 Yesterday I bought a new fry pan, but it's an inch too big to fit comfortably atop my stove. Back it goes for a smaller one. Home Goods has T-Fal models and other name brands. There's a small cast-iron pan among my kitchen gear, but I use it far less than I do the non-stick pan.

Best of all, the pan didn't cost me anything. A couple of years ago my (now-former) employer sent me a non-expiring $150 gift to mark my long service to the place. Yesterday I downloaded $50 of it onto a Home Goods card. I can spread the rest onto cards belonging to a slew of other merchants.

Speaking only for myself, that's hard advice to follow. I do have moments of cheerfulness (such as when having finished a bit of writing, as I mentioned yesterday), but I'm generally a cynical, depressive person.

Have you ever seen those commercials for anti-depressants where a person hides behind a smiling mask? I feel like that a lot of times. I really am hoping retirement will blow the clouds away.

50 The moviestvnetwork ("Movies!") channel is showing Jay Ward's old Fractured Flickers show. It's not closed-captioned, though most of their offerings are, but it still is fun.

Movie experts keep telling me that Lon Chaney Sr.'s London After Midnight film has been utterly lost. But I recall seeing snippets from it used on the FF show when I was a kid. Perhaps the film *as a whole* is lost, but there were bits of it still extant in the early Sixties.

Apparently, 29 states are asking a judge to require Trump to use federal emergency funds to continue to pay the states to fund SNAP but not to require the states to fund SNAP on their own or to have Senate Democrats pass the CR which would fund SNAP.

The federal emergency funds would run out in 2-3 weeks.

Salty and Notsothoreau have been suggesting Kansas to me, though, for several years now, and I am wondering about towns there, perhaps within a short drive of Wichita. Hot in the summer, I know, but maybe a little less humid than SW IN, and fall begins earlier?

Either way I have to sit Linda down and say, "Are you in or out?" I know darn well the answer will be "out," and so I'm putting it off. But wherever I decide on, I'll need to put my stuff in storage and rent an apartment for a while so I can see what the new area is actually like. All it will take is some money, which I have, and fortitude, which I will have to dredge up from somewhere.

75 G'morning Horde.

On Apple and Microsoft market valuations being $4T:

Ten years ago, Apple's market valuation was hovering around the high $800B/$900B mark (about a quarter of what it is now.)

Ten years ago, gold was trading at $1,000 to $1,100 USD (about a quarter of what it is now.)

And that means the value of our savings, and our buying power is about a quarter of what it was then. I shouldn't have thought about this. Now I'm angry.

Understandable. I get angry when anyone tries to take advantage of my daughters as well, but I don't have to worry for I taught them well, and their first assumption will always be, "It's a scam." This has served them very well so far.

I saw a video where they theorized that this was just female nature (millennia of social action) as it removed a potential competitor for finding the best mate.

One example they gave was women telling prettier women that they should cut their hair short despite the fact that men, generally, prefer longer hair on women. It's not a conscious thing, it's just ingrained behavior.

98 So whoever designed the brake light switch, and transmission interlock assembly on the 2013 MX-5 should be beaten with a hose.

The switch is a 'once and done' install, which means that any removal later on requires another new switch.

And do not install the electrical connection to the switch until the switch is fully installed, or it triggers the self adjusting feature prematurely.

And don't get me started on the two 1.5mm rods needs to reset and lock the plunger rod on the interlock.

103 Flirting is the time honored way of the two sexes exchanging signals. Both low risk and low investment, it's a harmless way to test the waters and see if there may or may not be interest.

A couple I know (who just had their first child) describe their first meeting this way. She was walking on a sidewalk with a group of friends. He was walking towards them with and got in front of her. He said hi, boldly stated his name and asked if he could flirt with her. She was both flattered and amused and of course began to play the game.

111 "You know you can take care of that safety switch with a paper clip, don't you? Just remember to push the clutch in when starting."

It has the 6 speed automatic.

But you have to set the interlock plunger correctly against the brake pedal plunger pad, and then lock the correct protrusion of the plunger.

To do that you have to lock the interrock plunger internal rod with the two paper clips, and then remove the clips and rotate the plunger rod to lock the protrusion setting.

And only AFTER that, can you mount the switch to the back of the interlock, and then install the electrical connection. Installing the connection activates the automatic depth setting adjustment for the switch itself.

Get it wrong and either the brake lights stay on constantly, regardless of the brake pedal position, or they fail to come on, no matter how hard you press the brake pedal.

And then that messes with the ABS system, tossing an ABS fault light and code.

An hour with my parts guy at the dealership, and it is definitely a complicated solution to a simple problem, And seems particular to the NC generation.
