Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Tuesday Overnight Open Thread - October 28, 2025 [Doof] Blow It Out Yer... Not one, but TWO stories on this subject. WTF??? Butt Breathing May Soon Be A Real Medical Treatment A research team that previously won the 2024 Ig Nobel Prize in Physiology for discovering that mammals can breathe through their anus has released promising new findings on the potential medical use of this method in humans. Commonly referred to as “butt breathing,” the technique could one day offer an alternative treatment for patients suffering from severe respiratory failure. Take a deep breath, hold it in… Exhale. Now do the same thing through your butt. Well, you obviously can’t do that, because your lungs are hooked up to a different orifice. However, a recent scientific breakthrough has demonstrated that breathing through your booty is not only possible, but safe. Butt breathing doesn’t involve drawing air in through your back door, however. Instead, it works by pumping an oxygen-rich liquid solution into the intestines. *** Still, we’ve entered a brave new era for humanity. We can now not only talk out of our asses, but breathe through them too.Check out the links - if you dare! ----- Not related yet somehow related. Remember this one? As part of the jail intake process, Frymire underwent a body scan — standard procedure to prevent weapons or contraband from entering the facility. It was during this scan that deputies observed a thermos bottle lodged inside his body. “He brought a thermos into jail. That’s right — he put it in the exit ramp,” Sheriff Judd explained, using his typical blunt tone. Frymire allegedly told deputies the thermos bottle had been inserted approximately 24 hours prior but clarified he had not swallowed it.Ouch. Why?!? Halloween season is driving in new business for car washes across the country, thanks to a growing trend: the haunted car wash. Locations like Fast Splash Car Wash in Detroit are turning routine vehicle cleanings into immersive horror experiences complete with clowns, chainsaws, and strobe lights. Visitors to these haunted car washes remain in their vehicles as actors in costume approach, tapping windows, yanking at door handles, and delivering frights between sprays of soap and spinning brushes. For many, the eerie atmosphere stirs childhood memories of being uneasy during a standard car wash – now amplified with Halloween theatrics. *** While no official data exists on the economic impact of haunted car washes, the International Carwash Association notes that offering a “memorable or differentiated wash experience” is considered “very important” by the majority of car wash businesses. For many operators, the haunted car wash is not just a seasonal gimmick – it’s a creative way to attract new customers, boost revenue, and stay top-of-mind in their communities during the competitive Halloween season.Video segment at the link. ----- Our friend OrangeEnt sent in this video to help us get into the Halloween spirit:

The Twiteratti are losing their minds over the official White House tweet with an AI generated President Trump as the Masterchief declaring "Power to the Players" as HALO is now being ported to the Playstation.
DHS has also Tweeted out an image of a Spartan manning the gun on a Warthog with the message "Defeat the Flood" to recruit people for ICE. Kyle Seraphin, when he was an FBI agent, followed the pipe bomb suspect on video to a metro station where he used an identified metro card who's owner is known. He rode the Metro into VA where he got into a car owned by the same person who owned the Metro card. Kyle was going to interview the owner of the car and metro card when he was taken off the investigation and subsequently fired by the FBI. The metro card owner is retired military ordinance specialist who is a government contractor. My guess is he works for BATFE. The only way BATFE could get into the FedSurrection/Reichstag Fire op on J6 was through the Explosives part of their name. And the phone company denies his phone data was scrambled. The NSA records every phone call in DC - ask them who the suspect was.
No offense, but Inspector Clouseau could have caught the pipe bomber years ago. In fact the Keystone Cops would have been beating this guy with billy clubs for the entire Biden administration. Even Chief Wiggum of the Springfield police could have had this guy booked and cooked by now. Did Knievel even modify the suspension … at all?
Jumping a Harley is stupid … at best. Modern dirt or Enduro bikes have fully articulated deep stroking (no jokes pliz) shocks that make jumps almost routine. The MFer was crazy. He was cool though. My parents didn’t think so. Every kid with a bike started jumping everything. We had a nice hill in our parents backyard, and we setup a ramp and set it on fire before making the jumps. My suspicion is, Emergency Room visits spiked anytime ole Evel made another jump on ABC. LOL Posted by: Common Tater at October 28, 2025 10:15 PM (pPsbV) 51

c.1973 I saw E. Knievel jump a bunch of cars at Castle Rock, Co. They had a racetrack just west of the interstate. The show was good. He did something I never saw on TV. About 5 minutes before he made the jump, he walked up the landing ramp and drew a circle with chalk, about 3 feet in diameter. Never mentioned it. Made the jump. Went down on the track afterward and the landing tire mark was inside the circle. Dude new some stuff! Posted by: LRob in OK, Moron and Lunatic at October 28, 2025 10:16 PM (47diA) 57

I have photos of piles of maple leaves every October, but with grandchildren diving in vs a doggie. They are insane. We plan this again this weekend with a cousin of theirs. I have requested they wear swim goggles as our girl got a bit in her eye last weekend. Love Brad Paisley, and, yeah, I know he has a liberal stripe. However he seems very grounded, married to the wife of his youth, very funny, and a nice guy. He knew he wanted to marry Kimberley the first time he saw her in a movie. I immediately yelled, "You bastard!" and gave chase. The lid weighted me down and I should have dropped it or thrown it at him...and then caught him and beat him to a pulp. Butt breathing doesn’t involve drawing air in through your back door, however. Instead, it works by pumping an oxygen-rich liquid solution into the intestines.
I remember a plot point in the movie The Abyss was that there was a LOX solution you could use to dive deeper. Berserker,
They look like the white parts are vinyl. We think the metal tracks are warped. They need to be either worked on or replaced. Posted by: four seasons at October 28, 2025 11:06 PM (3ek7K) Sounds like they may be vinyl replacement windows, but I'm not sure I ever saw any with metal tracks. Usually the tracks are vinyl and there some kind of tube looking mechanism that holds the spring. I'm asking because sometimes I ran across replacements that were done and shimmed on the sides way too much literally squeezing the window to where it couldn't be moved. I have seen some replacement windows years ago that did actually have a metal/aluminum track, but it wasn't a self contained replacement. You got 2 tracks and 2 sashes and installed it all into the original jambs, but those didn't have any moving parts. If they are actual vinyl replacements with damaged mechanisms it "could" be a bitch to find parts depending on the style and age. I did 100's of windows in my time. If I saw it I could tell you immediately whats going on, but from here I'm only guessing. Posted by: Kindltot at October 28, 2025 11:22 PM (rbvCR) If it is a ball or roller bearing, you can get a new one from a bearing supply house. They are very standardized. Even the part numbers track from brand to brand. A 6201 is a 6201 is a 6201. 'Bout the same as flashlight batteries. If you can get the old bearing out, there should be a number on it you can search. Worst case? Measure I.D., O.D., thickness, and note presence of shields or seals. Nearly all ball and roller bearings are dimensioned in metric units, and have been for decades. Nursing error I should have caught before typed above with the enemas on a raft idea. Too LITTLE sodium can cause cerebral edema, not too much. Hyponatremia ain't going to happen with a salt water enema.
So I reckon if Gilligan is acting wonky let's get that salt water squirted inside him! Using what I do not know! In a raft, who has a plastic straw? I don't want to think about this before bed. This is why the Pediatric Academy started frowning on teaching babies to swim, after I'd already taught our sons. Because some nitwits kept dunking the babies too much vs 2-3 times, the babies swallowed a ton of water, and their sodium levels went low and they died. It is because of complete idiots that children went on to probably drown vs float. Mine at least, as babies, could come to the top of the water, flip over on their backs and/or swim to the side before they were two yrs old. Both of our parents had pools, we lived in FL with water everywhere at the time, and I am a good swimmer. Drowning was not an option. Our toddler did fall into one of the pools once but knew what to do as I snatched him out within seconds. All it takes is one second and they can fall in. Four seasons: have a great and wonderful 49th!!!
We replaced all of our blasted windows along with everything else. They are pretty fast when they do it and the first were replaced during a cold rainstorm and snow. Which was cold, but worth it. We did it in two swoops. PITA, but lowered heating and cooling bills. We'd been here about 2yrs when a lot of rain from the south caused leaks on all of the south windows. A fine mess. Those were replaced first. The most recent are triple paned facing north. A lotta windows in this house. I think last spring. Either Anderson or something else, and look for sales. In our first very small house in FL my husband replaced every old jalousie window one weekend when I was at work and he had the 4 and 2yr old chimps. At one point he did find the baby hanging out of one. I figured it would be a mess with bats flying in at night, but he got it done somehow! Unfortunately he discovered he could pee at the beach one day at 18mo. This led to me seeing him in the backyard wanting to pee outside vs inside. He finally figured it out. Then came the pee wars and an eventual replacement of their toilet. I have read of women, who seem to be hippies, letting their kids run around nekkid to potty train. Done in a weekend I read! This might work but what happens when they wear clothing? I also was not keen on what happened if it failed as life was hard enough at the time. The juggle was real. Water filters work great for fresh water. Sea water is a problem however. Filters won’t remove minerals or salt. Distillation is one method, not practical on a raft. Survival kits have a few cans of water, but it won’t last long.
Reverse osmosis devices have sort of obviated the problem, but they are slow at best, and expensive. I read a book called “The Raft” about 3 navy aviators who ditched at sea and spent a month in a very small raft in the pacific. They were baked in the sun like broiled lobsters. They would soak up brackish rainwater in a shirt and try to drink that once in a while. Dixon, Aldrich, and Pastula were their names. Posted by: Common Tater at October 28, 2025 11:55 PM (eXRad) 317

My current washing machine here in Alberta is a Whirlpool direct-drive top-loader. No belts in it. Built differently, too. Undo 2 screws and some clips, and the entire cabinet tilts forward and slides off the base, exposing all the works. The pump, which leaked slightly, is located low in the front. 2 hoses, and two screws, i think, and out it comes. Control is old-school mechanical timer.
The real leak was not the pump; it was the corrugated pump-out hose chafing on the cement floor, which wore a hole in it. Splinted that up, and it will never be a problem again. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 29, 2025 12:12 AM (npFr7) 334

I worked on a few projects with a wiki. It works ok if it's set up right. By now, I imagine that any decent IT department has a standard template.
Never used it on any of the project where I was lead. Had project meetings MWF, with progress reports due in my inbox by Friday. I'd summarize, send it up the chain, and cc everyone in the project. Of course a wiki is better if you have remote workers, but we were doing hardware which doesn't lend itself to remote as easily as software. And from that source, here is commentary regarding the philosophy that was evolving in Ward's idea, even in the late 70's, via mail, before there were 'digital spaces': Ward Cunningham's invention of the wiki in 1995 was grounded in a philosophy of radical trust, positing that collaborative editing could thrive through an assumption of good faith among participants, obviating the need for stringent verification or credentials prior to contributions. This ethos enabled the WikiWikiWeb, initially serving as a dynamic knowledge base for software pattern discussions among a small group of programmers, where emergent consensus would refine content over time. Cunningham emphasized creating an environment fostering human connection in digital spaces, allowing strangers to build trust sufficient for co-creating meaningful artifacts without centralized control Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at October 29, 2025 01:22 AM (XeU6L) 417

As a general rule: engine hard to start cold, won't stay running? Not enough fuel getting to the cylinders. Cold engines need a rich mixture to start.
engine hard to start warm, or dies on warm idle? Too much fuel getting to cylinders, not enough air, mixture too rich to burn reliably. Applicable to both EFI and carbureted gasoline engines, and assumes the ignition system works. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 29, 2025 01:55 AM (npFr7) 451

This one is EFI, I believe, though I caution that I am very ignorant when it comes to fuel-injectors (so often just works!). The weird thing is that when it dies, it is very sudden. Well, past midnight here, and my beer is all gone. I'm off to the rack
Did some hours on the Avanti today. Moving the main underhood wire harness from the left side to the right side, to follow the alternator, which also migrated. This necessitates extending most of the wires with splices. Got two of the thick ones, to both studs on the ammeter, spliced, and two smaller ones, starter crank wire and water temp sender, spliced. There are about six other small ones, several of them not used, but I will splice them anyway, rather than leave them dead-ended inside the harness. That's Bubba stuff. One wire, I did clip short at both ends, the ignition resistor bypass to the starter solenoid. Engine has HEI dstributor now, so not needed. The other ones, I don't know what they were for, but if it turns out I need them, they will be available at the end of the wire loom. I had 4.0 jeep truck with problems nobody could seem to fix - intermittent as all hell - sometimes ran fine, other times not so much. The mechanic changed the computer - same problem. Finally I fixed it. It was the connector to the computer. I fixed the problem with a Tie-wrap around the computer and connector that held the wiring in place. Ran fine after that -till the whole truck just wore out.
