17 I will put this on the prayer thread as well, but this may be something that comes to a head before Saturday:

Littlest Kidlet just texted me that she has filed a police report against a roommate for assault, based on advice from Inspector. The roommate had *seemed* very nice at first, but turns out to be bipolar and self medicating with alcohol. LK is worried the roommate will retaliate for having the police involved because she has already threatened a different roommate and said she won't allow police in "her" home. Prayer for safety for all involved, and mental healing for the bipolar roommate "M" would be appreciated.

20 The Kitten figured out how to defeat the screen door today and spent 15 minutes out with the big Tom. Apparently they had fun, and the little idiot didn't run off.

he almost went across the street in pursuit of a squirrel earlier, so I have that worry, and he still can't figure out the cat door, so he is not yet "free roaming" ready

There's purring at the window.

Snowflake is there looking inside.

I have to go call that cat in for a few minutes, pet her head, tell her how much I love her, kiss her then remind myself of the 3am wakeup calls and all the jumping so I put her back outside. She still loves to visit. All she gets is love and affection though.

When I used to catch Dave Ramsey on the radio sometimes, and he talked about when you are trying to drastically pay down your debt, "beans and rice, rice and beans." That was his mantra. Eat as thriftily as possible. Save the nice celebration meals for when you finally paid down the debt.

She could come home, since she's actually there as an assistant for her best friend (there are 4 roommates total) who *can't* leave because she's taking major engineering classes. Prayers for her "C" would be welcome as well because she has psoriatic arthritis and the sort of stress this situation is causing is likely to cause a flare up. "M" is supposed to be moving out soon, but the others are worried about what she'll do to them in the meantime. LK got information about an abuse shelter and passed that on in case it became necessary.

77 The only thing I miss from pre-covid working setup is listening to Dave Ramsey on the way home LizLem. And it doesn't have to be beans and rice to be thrifty. A loaf or 2 of bread and and a jar of peanut butter will yield several meals.

The only point I disagreed with Dave on was "sell your stuff". I suppose maybe mentally it is good to become not owned by your stuff, but for things you enjoy and will replace once you are out of debt it doesn't make sense to me to yard sale it and then have to buy it again in a couple years.

I miss the numbing cold and snow that I grew up with in Montana. It was a test of survival traveling at times. Even today I still carry enough survival gear in my SUVs to live for a week.

The weather here in the mid Willamette Valley is mild in comparison. We might get 2 light snow falls a winter but it is mostly cold rain.

Pretty much. I can't really blame Martin for putting his heels up and basking in the fame while GoT was still viral.

Last few seasons made me appreciate writers more. Sure, translating a book into a movie requires a specific skill set, but apparently writing a script from scratch is not part of it.

I think David Benioff and D.B. Weiss got lost once they started planning their Star Wars trilogy. Season 8 appeared to be written by someone who hadn't followed the series or the books.

91 Dave Ramsey has had some good advice but he's become increasingly ossified and detached. He's forgotten what not being a multi-millionaire is like. Plus he was born with a silver spoon and connections up his ass and he's deceitful about his origins.

Posted by: Also a Boomer meme at October 27, 2025 08:07 PM (TbWk/)

92 The only point I disagreed with Dave on was "sell your stuff". I suppose maybe mentally it is good to become not owned by your stuff, but for things you enjoy and will replace once you are out of debt it doesn't make sense to me to yard sale it and then have to buy it again in a couple years.

Especially when it's stuff that can't easily be replaced, or will have to be replaced at a much higher expense.

154 the student loans is bad. Like "where were these people's parents?" Sure at 18 or 19 you might not think through on taking out huge debt for a degree that is not likely to get you a decent salary in relation to that debt, but your parents should have told you 'no way'.

But people can dig out of that debt hole. They can eat at home, and get a 2nd job delivering pizza instead of going out 2-3 nights a week. That is why Dave takes all the calls from people who succeeded in getting out of debt. Those calls and me enjoying Dave's accent is why I tuned into him while driving. But I wasn't a huge fan to where I downloaded the podcast to catch the whole show instead of just the hour on my drive and I didn't miss it enough to do podcast when my commute ended either, it was just more entertaining then music radio that always plays only the hit songs. And yes, I'm a luddite and I still haven't set up my vehicles to use spotify etc.

236 Boenos Nachos, gentes. Just popped in to post some comments because I didn't know what else to do with them.

Simon Whistler, on his Sideprojects channel, covers "5 Ancient Mysteries...That Turned Out to be Hoaxes". Four out of five were easy, well-known targets, including crystal skulls and Piltdown Man.

But "number five will surprise you," as he (or anyway his writers) targets the Shroud of Turin. Whistler enjoys attacking religious beliefs. Here, his mis- and missing information is glaring to anyone who has followed the research into the Shroud. There were a couple of things I'd never heard before, including the blood stains being dye and jam! Pretty shoddy research. Missed a lot.

Several commenters tried to fill in the missing info, but, oh, yuck, after reading some of the "no it isn't" comments I felt like I needed a shower. Usual for YouTube.

The URL if you want it, but I don't recommend it.
