You rarely see community groups begging for a particular structure to be destroyed because it's so horrible to look at - these brutalist buildings inspire that phenomenon in practically every city, and invariably facing stubborn resistance from Marxist urban planners. The same people who tell us we must tear down beautiful statues of historical figures tell us we must preserve these architectural genital warts to honor our history. I live in a small city that was deliberately planned for a single purpose before a shovel touched the ground. It was planned to make it a desirable place for people to live and work, in what was a wilderness at the time. It worked. Most of the original structures were ugly from necessity, but were intended to be temporary, and were - they started being scraped and replaced within 10 years of groundbreaking.
It worked. 80 years later, it's a lovely , attractive little city people love to live in. Small scale urban planning can work, if it's planned around humans, instead of around some ideology from Satan. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at October 28, 2025 10:03 AM (rQlg5) 180

There was a Euro- and architecto-worshipping horse's ass who procured a parcel of land with a great view of Lake Superior near the edge of my home town. He wrote of setting it aside to establish a colony of architects (who may have been practitioners in a manner) similar to Frank Lloyd Wright. "Taliesin North" or some such he wanted to call it. Waxed poetical about the higher nature of architects, he did. Now, my home town already had one asshole architect. A native, no less. Went to high school with him, I did. Got in at the ground level of dropping his excremental "creations" along the town's newly available waterfront property, he did. Widely viewed as opportunistic pond scum, he is. Anywho, Mr. Taliesin North either shoved off or was unable to procure whatever salesmanship faerie dust was needed to create his "Assholes on the Bluffs" architect colony. It's now a campground. How successful it is, I do not know. But the infestation of asshole architects appears to have been nipped in the bud, snd thank goodness for that. (They knew abt halal but not shellfish). After walking 12 mi that day in the HEAT with zero AC anywhere, I saw the FIVE GUYS logo out of the corner of my etmye. Burgers, ICE, peanut hor d'ourves, AIR CONDITIONING, more ice, unlimited refills, no shellfish.

There used to be a Fuddrucker's near me. I only went once, because it was too noisy. The burger was OK.
The best burger I have ever had in my life was from the late lamented York Steak House chain.* It was a sirloin burger marinated in some secret sauce that was like nothing I ever tasted before or since, served on a hot bulkie roll with melted butter brushed on top and a side of steak fries. "Number 4, bien cuit!" was the cook call for it. *there is one left in Ohio, I think, but the menu is completely different.
