The Balcony, I
Kurt Seligmann That's one very fine balcony railing in the painting. Sketchline: Mediums: oil, watercolor, ink, canvas. Location: The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (the USA). "Expressive characters on the balcony resemble surrealistic marionettes. Despite the statics of the image itself, each of the four figures is emotional in its own way, especially the standing one (obviously, this is a lady), wrapped in fluffy draperies. Two figures at the left side are actively talking. For the characters, the artist chose rather dark colors, so on a neutral gray-pink background, all the intricate details of their clothes and hats are distinct up to their relief. With great care, the master painted the massive balcony railing." While it's amusing & fun for Hump Day, I'd probably pass hanging this piece. (But, OTOH, it would have a much greater chance than yesterday's birth theme painting.) Thanks Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at October 29, 2025 09:50 AM (NFX2v) 101

81 kind of a stretch to attribute knievel's bikes to amf, even though that was the era before the employees bought the company. he did most of his jumps on specially prepared xr750 flat track machines never intended for street use. the frames were all hand welded, the engines hand assembled, the italian ceriani suspension set up to handle the landings.
i saw him jump some busses indoor at the chicago amphitheater as a young teen. it seemed like his head would hit the trussed rafters, but it probably wasn't as close as it seemed. Posted by: cmeat at October 29, 2025 10:00 AM (R11M+) 135

Tucker is an antisemite. He is regurgitating old antisemitic smears and lies, and only those who are unfamiliar with history see something new and novel is his conspiratorial drivel. Fortunately majority of people on the right, see him for what he is. Unfortunately the cooks who invite each other to be guest on shows, think they have some kind of wide appeal. NO, they are the fringe, and I am sure the conservative right, the real one, not the BLM inspired one, will not fall like the Democrats did.

Their "popularity" is bought by Iran, Qatar, Turkey and is run through Chinese TikTok servers. You yourself can buy an entire media "portfolio" , and become an internet sensation overnight. Youtube , Insta, TikTok. For the right price of course. They push a mirage of popularity. It is not any different than "spontaneous" pro hamas demonstrations. T.Carlson sounds no different than Iranian mullahs. He was absolutely besides himself when Israel bombed Iran. Do you think that Iran does not notice, does not know who is on their side in the US ? Whether they believe those things is debatable. My understanding is that a lot of "influencers" are receiving off shore monies... the Middle East, China, wherever. So, consider the source as to their on-line commentary. Posted by: Martini Farmer at October 29, 2025 10:12 AM (Q4IgG) 158

That LSD is a heck of a drug isn't it?
——- In 1954, the CIA proposed to purchase the entire world supply of acid, ostensibly to keep it out of the hands of the Soviets, as there was only one manufacturer, Sandoz of Switzerland. They cajoled Eli Lily iirc, out of Indiana, to start cranking it out. The Swiss for their part decided they were sorry they had discovered it, and ironically gave it away for free to researchers and various Mengele like doctors like Ewen Cameron and Harris Isbell. Eli Lilly for their part patriotically said they would soon be able to produce it in “tonnage quantities” and apparently that was reserved for California, although Augustus Owsley can also be held at least partly responsible. Anti-semitism, or Jew hate really, is the easiest thing, it is the way of a sophomore or infantile. Biden and Pelosi are not, for example, good exemplars of the Catholic faith, and Lutheran Social Services are apparently a bunch of grifters. I’ve always sort of admired Mormons generally for their persistence, but I don’t look to the Romney’s as good government, far from it. Maybe the Zoroastrians are perfect, but I haven’t checked. Ironically enough to get real problems in human relations we only need to look at the history of the atheists or anti-theists. Those boys really know how to get a good genocide going, free from all those silly sentimental beliefs in a supreme being or Deity.

So how come we didn't intern people of German descent? The Japanese internment was straight out Democrat racism
—— As a practical matter, one of the largest demographic groups in the USA at the time were those of German decent. You gonna intern Chester Nimitz? As I alluded to earlier, simple racism cannot be the reason Japanese were interned during the war. The USA didn’t have the time or the physical resources to be that stupid. Interestingly enough, it is well known now the Nazis made shipping Jews and others to concentration camps on the rails a priority, even though from the war logistics they could not afford to do that. Think about that. As it was, the FBI kept close tabs on a shitload of people. Foreign nationals were prohibited short wave radios, cameras, and binoculars. Enrico Fermi was prohibited from flying anywhere, as technically speaking, he was an Enemy Alien. Italy. Posted by: Common Tater at October 29, 2025 10:47 AM (HmHHo) 244

Bottom line - the Government wanted to Win world war two. They were not fucking around. Not even a little bit. That’s the main reason they interned a shitload of people, citizen or not, oriental or not. It is possible that more than one thing can be true. Perhaps some in California took advantage of the situation and helped themselves in an unscrupulous way. But I do not believe for a minute the government should have “apologized” for doing what they thought was necessary at the time.
