THE MORNING RANT: Kooks, Fringe Ideas, and Media Misclassification of Actual Scandals as “Conspiracy Theories”

We have a problem. There are delusional people pushing preposterous stories, which we used to label “conspiracy theories.” There are also partisan journalists, joined by liberal politicians, who label inconvenient scandals that harm the left’s agenda as being “conspiracy theories.”

So, I have two theses to posit today:

1) Because of the left’s misuse of the term “conspiracy theory,” there is a need for a new term for actual kookie theories.

2) It has become difficult to dismiss actual kookie “conspiracy theories,” because the left applied that term to so many truths that it sought to delegitimize. Quite simply, it is not outrageous to assume that anything the left calls a “conspiracy theory” is actually true.

The term “conspiracy theory” has been defanged because it is as ridiculously misused and overused as “racist,” “Nazi,” “fascist,” and “white supremacist.” Just like those other terms, conservatives now joke about being a “conspiracy theorist” because so many stories in the past decade that were framed as “conspiracies” have turned out to be true. We even joke, “What is the difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth?” Answer: “About six months.”

There are abundant examples of this, including discussions about the provenance of the Covid virus. In the early 2020s, arguing that the virus originated in the nearby Wuhan Institute of Virology was a forbidden “conspiracy theory” that would get a person deplatformed from social media, but it is now accepted as the almost certain source of the virus. Similarly, arguing that Covid “vaccines” did not prevent the contraction or transmission of the virus was also a deplatformable “conspiracy theory” that proved to be true.

The New York Post was deplatformed from Twitter for its reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop, while Facebook throttled posts that linked to that “conspiracy theory,” which of course was not a conspiracy theory at all. It was the truth, and those in government coordinating with media to bury the story knew it was true, which was an actual conspiracy.

Following Hurricane Helene’s flooding in North Carolina, there were allegations that FEMA employees in the field were withholding aid to those storm victims who were visibly Trump supporters. Government-funded PBS sought to quash those verifiably true allegations by calling them “conspiracy theories.”

“Disinformation and Conspiracy Theories Cloud Helene Recovery Efforts in Hard-hit Areas” [PBS – 10/05/2024]

The facts emerging from Hurricane Helene’s destruction are heartrending: Businesses and homes destroyed, whole communities nearly wiped out, hundreds of lives lost, hundreds of people missing. Yet this devastation and despair is not enough for the extremist groups, disinformation agents, hucksters and politicians who are exploiting the disaster to spread false claims and conspiracy theories about it and the government’s response. According to former President Donald Trump, the federal government is intentionally withholding aid to Republican disaster victims.

Now that Donald Trump is President and FEMA is answerable to him, the truth has come out. As reported by Matt Taibi at Racket News, ““Politicized distribution of hurricane aid money before the 2024 election was no ‘isolated incident,’ a Homeland Security follow-up report sadly concludes.”

But there are still fringe theories being promoted. Several conservative pundits whom I used to respect have gone off the deep end, including Candace Owens, who is now insinuating that Donald Trump was involved in the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

“Candace Owens Hits a New Low, and Accuses Trump of Assassinating Charlie Kirk” [Townhall – 10/23/2025]

Mark Pulliam of Misrule of Law shared a recent piece of his about a candidate running for Tennessee State Senate, Gary Humble, who has some rather exotic views. Mr. Humble has been quoted as saying:

Do I believe that factions of our government coordinated with other foreign entities to attack Americans on 9/11? Yes.

Do I believe the CIA was involved? Yes.

Do I believe Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened? Yes.

Do I believe that the towers coming straight down in a straight line fashion was not the work of planes crashing into the buildings but a controlled demolition? Yes.

Do I believe that building 7, just next door, also fell during a controlled demolition, while the other two buildings purportedly fell because of airliners? Yes.

I believe those things, unequivocally.

In our correspondence, I expressed to Mark my frustration that it is hard for conservatives to find the words to write about fringe candidates who promote what we used to call “conspiracy theories” because of how the left has misused that term to slander any conservative who isn’t a RINO or controlled opposition.

What are your thoughts? What term do you use?

5 Biden Official Worked With Chinese Espionage Front To Undermine U.S. Tariff Negotiations

When President Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on Chinese goods, the Chinese Communist Party didn’t just retaliate with trade measures. It launched an information war, using American insiders to spread its narrative that tariffs were reckless and self-defeating. One of the most prominent voices in that campaign is Rick Waters, a former senior U.S. diplomat who once directed the State Department’s China House. Since leaving government, Waters has become a reliable messenger for Beijing’s preferred positions, appearing with CCP-linked influence groups and using Western media outlets to promote pro-China talking points that undermine Trump’s trade strategy.

12 What followed was a data-driven takedown of the narrative that gerrymandering is solely a Republican problem. Schwarzenegger pointed to Massachusetts, where approximately 40% of voters supported Trump, yet the state sends zero Republicans to the House of Representatives. He then cited New Mexico, where 45% voted Republican, but again—zero GOP representatives made it to Congress.

I've seen more conspiracy theories proven true than falsified at this point. So calling something a conspiracy theory is like calling someone a racist at this point: I don't care.

I knew innately (just from my own common sense and experience) that all the prevailing covid “wisdom” at the time was bullshit: social distancing, masks, “vaccines” developed in 6-9 months… all grade A bullshit. I didn’t need an “expert” to help me figure it out. My mom is very wise… at the time (in the middle of it) she said: If these covid shots are so great they don’t have to force anyone to get them… people would be flocking to get them if they were so needed.

Likewise, Candace Owen’s lunacy is easy to see with plain old common sense…

And I promise you, here and now, no theory will be considered taboo…except, of course, the wanton disregard of our God-given rights in response to the virus.

I encourage you to, from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, question the lab theory as being the origin of the COVID virus. But allow me to convince you. And I promise you, here and now, no theory will be considered taboo…except, of course, the wanton disregard of our God-given rights in response to the virus.

If it's valid eventually there will be enough evidence to support it ("parallel" evolution in Africa in South America resolved by plate tectonics, or asteroid bombardment of planets and moons); if not, it's merely entertainment and/or goofiness. Maybe part of being able to think critically is understanding this difference without name-calling or sneering.

85 Question: Remember the Pentagon? Remember it was penetrated by an aircraft? Remember the post-attack footage and films? If an aircraft - like the ones at the Twin Towers - did the penetration, then: WHERE are the breaches that would logically have been caused by the wings and engines penetrating the walls? WHERE are the engines and wheels and wing structural remnants? NONE of these things are viewable or visible in post-attack photos. Yes, I have considerered that they were removed - and logically, they would have been removed … eventually. The post-impact pictures were taken within 30 to 60 minutes after impact. Nothing. There. Where are the wheels, the wing impact marks on the building, and the engines post-impact? I'll wait …

ANNALS OF LEFTIST AUTOPHAGY: Largest Federal Workers Union Urges Dems to Cave on Government Shutdown, Revealing Cracks in Coalition.

The nation’s largest federal workers’ union, the American Federation of Government Employees, is urging Democrats to concede the government shutdown fight and vote to reopen the government, revealing a significant fracture in the Democratic coalition as the shutdown nears the one-month mark.

The shutdown began 27 days ago after Democrats refused to back a clean government funding bill, demanding instead that Republicans extend temporary Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year. But AFGE, a major ally to the Democratic party which represents 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers, now says it’s time for the party to give up on its demands.

“It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship,” AFGE President Everett Kelley said...

“It’s time for our leaders to start focusing on how to solve problems for the American people, rather than on who is going to get the blame for a shutdown that Americans dislike,” Kelley said.

121 It takes a spectacular sort of fool to believe that the twin towers were demolished by detonation. Good lord, the ignorance and stupidity in that is almost painful.

You have to gut a building for a controlled detonation. Literally everything out, all interior walls. It takes days to do a building that big, weeks even. You run wires and cables all over the place. Charges are very carefully placed in the building. Its not like Batman where the Joker somehow teleports bombs all over a hospital while its active and inexplicably nobody notices.

There is literally no possible way to do it without being noticed, and not just "someone might spot it" but incredibly, blatantly, painfully obvious.

Candace Owens may be a lunatic or a grifter or both. How does that set her apart from most talking heads? Her bullshit is somewhat more outre? Sure, Ms. Macron has a penis is an odd story. But how much odder is it than the girls can have penises story the mainstream media has been pushing for years? Setting up a temporary tent gor an event costs $1 million +.

Look to see who owns the tent company and who they are "friends of".

Look at the flamingo hotel that was taken down in Las Vegas. It was a months long effort to prep it for demolition. And that’s a 25 story hotel.

But TWO, 110 story buildings were detonated with nobody noticing the prep work? lol.

Seriously. The market is simple human nature. It is easier (more inviting, more interesting) to accept that there is an assemblage of dark forces aligned against you, than to dig up boring facts, accept reality, and accept responsibility for your misjudgment, misadventures, and self-caused misfortunes.

THEY know this. THEY study it. THEY exploit it for their political and financial benefit.

COVID should have been the great reveal on this. Bronco Bama did not lift the ban on American propaganda efforts against Americans for naught.

N.B. This was intentionally written to sound like a grand conspiracy, but you don't need a conspiracy for people to act in their self-interests according to methods and procedures that are ingrained into an institution and system of operations such as the U.S. political system.

But I think it's inaccurate to say she's crazy. She's got an agenda, I don't know what it is. She talks to people, and I don't know who they are.

I listened to her rant a couple times, and I got the impression she kinda went off the rails a bit, and didn't really mean to accuse the Trump admin of Charlie's murder. It was more a jab at them for possibly being part of the coverup.

Whatever. Those who now hate her though, I kinda think it means she's getting under people's skin, which seems to me her main purpose for doing what she's doing.

What questions are people supposed to ask? What questions are they NOT supposed to ask?

A big problem is this. We learn the "experts" and authorities are lying and/or totally wrong, and then try to cover it up and silence all those who question them.

This can lead to if "they" (ie experts, authorities on subjects beyond general lay knowledge) are lying/wrong then "everything must be wrong", and question everything.

However there was no need for it because Apollo 11 was a success, and the film was scrapped even though rumors and speculation remain.
------

That's beautiful. For some reason after reading it I recalled the ending scenes of the original "Running Man".

227 The most interesting theory about the JFK assassination was that Oswald was trying to kill Connally, not Kennedy. He was pissed over his dishonorable discharge from the Corps.

I wouldn't exclude the possibility that he was trying to make it a twofer -- Connally for his personal animus, and Kennedy for his CIA handlers.

228 Question: Remember the Pentagon? I'll wait …

Not because there's reason to believe any of that, but because science has been revealed to be packed with untrustworthy hacks. The field is no better than used car salesmen in their own way.

When a study showed that over half the "peer-reviewed" scientific studies published in the last 25 years could not be replicated, it leads one to doubt. When scientists keep reversing themselves in study after study "fat is bad for you. Fat is good for you. Fat will kill you. Fat gives you cancer. Fat helps fight cancer. Fat will give you immortality and the powers of the Incredible Hulk!" its difficult to trust them on anything.

238 Many conspiracy theories distract from finding out what really happened.

Example: "The twin towers fell faster than possible, so explosives must have been involved."

The towers had an unusual design with a hardened center that had the elevators. The floors hung from the center and the outside skin of the building.

When the heat melted the anchors, floor 86 would fall and hit floor 85 which also had weakened anchors. Etc. Etc. As this went it accelerated floor by floor with the bulit-up momentum from the cascade.

Because of the hardened center. the towers didn't fall over, but came straight down. Like an old school record player.

This distracted from the bombers all being from Saudi Arabia -- our nominal ally. Awkward

280 I rate conspiracy theories by likelihood. My #1 for the JFK hit is that Allen Dulles gave the order in an off-the-books operation.

JFK had fired CIA director Dulles over the Bay of Pigs fiasco and other sins.

Dulles had people hondling Lee Harvey and Marina. They got him the job at the Texas Book Depository before he arrived in Dallas. Easy to have a real shooter take the shots from the Depository and frame Oswald for it.

History doesn't repeat but it can rhyme. Dulles wanted a war over Cuba but was thwarted by JFK. LBJ gave him Vietnam.

A fearful former President Joe Biden on Sunday night called these “dark days” under President Donald Trump, exhorting Americans to “get back up” and stand with late-night TV hosts as brave moral exemplars who “continue to shine a light on free speech.”

AP reports Biden, 82, was speaking publicly for the first time since completing a round of radiation therapy for an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He addressed an audience in Boston with his dire warnings after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Edward M. Kennedy Institute.

302 I rate conspiracy theories by likelihood.

Posted by: Ignoramus at October 27, 2025 12:07 PM (DG5yQ)

I'm warming to the idea that CIA was working directly with the Mafia to get the job done. They started working together to try to get Castro, and just transferred some of their hitters to take out JFK after they failed several times to get Castro.

304 This ballroom freak out blitz is hilarious. FYI... I thought the White House already had a ballroom. It would have been a standard part of a mansion that big and used for that purpose (house of the head of state) during the time period in which it was designed and built. I wonder why they didn't do that. And why no one else did. The rebuild after the burning of DC would have been a good time to add that. It's very odd to me.
Posted by: Madamemayhem (uppity wench)

The White House has a smallish ballroom that seats 200. This new ballroom is to seat 600. For over a hundred years US Presidents have been wanting a larger ballroom. Trump is building it, without taxpayer money.

305 277 yes, that is why I used to suspect Alex Jones may have been their asset. The trick is to discern what elements are absurd "conspiracy theories" and which are the correct conspiracy theories. USA certainly has many conspiracies actively in motion by our DeepState (and other) enemies.

I don't believe Jones is an asset, but I do believe he has fallen for more than one of the Deep State created conspiracies. This whole debate is interesting IMHO. I mean, I love Buck, but with this article (and not uncommon on this site), he's basically saying HIS proven conspiracy theories are fact and the others are kooks. I don't like it, but it would not be hard for me to believe the deep state & defense industry were inside players on 9/11. Bin Laden & jihadists still did it, but were people aware and otherwise enabled it to advance an agenda... It wouldn't surprise me, at least

Yeah, i dont understand it, but some people are convinced by things they see on the internet. My wife, who is an MD at one point was all in on this. I would talk to her about it rationally and she would get angry. It wasnt until she spouted that fire couldnt melt steel that the whole thing collapsed. It took a while to remind her of the fire triangle, point out that i can raise or lower the temp of my big green egg just by controlling the amount of airflow that it clicked and she got embarrassed. Its a emotional locking on to an explanation that is more controllable (you can vote out your own govt) cause than war by islamists.

They got the climate zealots when they were young and scared the crap out of them with their climate doom. It is easier to scare someone into something than it is to convince them to rationally abandon their irrational fears.

That is part of the conspiracy theories. Contractor(s) were working weekends for weeks or months beforehand - came in Friday nights and were cleaned up and gone by each Monday morning. Survivors and first responders on the ground floor when the buildings came down reportedly said there were lobby explosions preceding the collapse.

337 Pre-Scamdemic, or even pre-Trump 2015, I would have thought a guy like Mr. Humble was kooky. Now I have a very different view on things based on the incomplete information our 'government' has 'provided'.

Conspiracy theory(invented by the Culinary Institute of America(CIA)) = fragmentary government information.

For me 11/22/1963 was the day that truth died into fragments.

As Rogan recently said: "We just don't know."

Posted by: Danimal28 at October 27, 2025 02:53 PM (1E4GV)

338 Two points. The left manipulates via narrative. Every strategy they have requires a truth-distorting narrative that emotionally manipulates the base and provides an attack vector for the politicians. But, because they always overuse their terms (racist, homophobe, islamophobe, sexist, patriarchy, conspiracy theory, etc.), they are voiced to develop new ones (transphobe, Nazi, fascist).
Second point; the left undercuts its opposition by character assassination. They never seek to argue on policy or merits, even when they might have a case to make. This is why the left focuses so much energy to take over schools. A well-educated person sees right through their lies.
