Do "Man Cards" Expire With Age?

If not, this old timer better turn his in!

95-Year-Old Man Starts Taylor Swift Fan Club in Retirement Home

doof-old-man-Taylor-Swift-fan.jpg

Taylor Swift just released her latest album The Life of a Showgirl and her popularity has reached every demographics—including a certain 95-year-old in a Nebraska retirement home.

Frank Uryasz is a resident at the Remington Heights Retirement Community in Omaha. He was talking to a worker one day who expressed disappointment that Swift had never responded to any of her fan letters.

Frank wanted to do something about it.

“I know some people,” the 95-year-old said in an interview with Omaha’s KETV.

He started a Taylor Swift fan club and worked to spread the word as far and wide as he could. Membership kept snowballing, from 10 members to 20 and, soon, into the triple digits.

***

The club is preparing to deliver a big envelope to Taylor’s team in Kansas City, where her fiancee, Travis Kelce, plays NFL football for the Chiefs. There’s a letter typed for Taylor and Kelce that includes marriage advice from Frank, who is a lifelong Chiefs fan. There’s a letter for quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the envelope too, along with photos of the newest—some might say oldest—Swiftie fan club.

Frank is having fun just thinking about all of them showing up to the Remington Heights building someday. And maybe that’s the whole point: you’re never too old to dream.

“We’re having a wonderful time with this,” he said.

Dude. Seriously - DUDE!!!

This grandma can probably kick Grandpa Swiftie's ass!

80-Year-Old Grandma Who Learned to Swim at 59 Just Became Oldest Ever Female Ironman Finisher

With every step toward the finish line, Natalie Grabow was proving it’s never too late to get started.

Earlier this month, the 80-year-old grandmother from Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, became the oldest woman to ever finish the punishing Ironman World Championship triathlon in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

She swam 2.4 miles—even though she never learned to swim until she was almost 60—then she pedaled 112 miles on a bicycle and immediately ran a full 26.2-mile marathon to make history.

It's that time of the week - when we turn the ONT over to our good friend Piper for a bit. Here's this week's fashion pr0n.

It’s Fall y’all! Time for Boots That'll Have You Leaf-Peeping in Style
Ah, fall 2025—when the air crisps up like a fresh apple cider donut, pumpkin spice everything reigns supreme, and suddenly, your sandal collection feels as out-of-place as flip-flops at a hayride. Enter the boot: fashion's coziest co-conspirator, ready to stomp through crunchy leaves, dodge rogue acorns, and turn every sidewalk into a runway. From slouchy boho dreams to equestrian vibes, we've rounded up the boots that have us swooning. Buckle up—or should we say, lace up—for our cheeky review of the kicks that scream "autumn slay" without whispering "wardrobe malfunction."

Slouchy Boots: The Boho Slacker That Says "I'm Effortlessly Effortful"
Picture this: You're channeling your inner '70s free spirit, but with a 2025 twist that involves zero patchouli. Slouchy boots are back from their 2010s hiatus, courtesy of Louis Vuitton's surprise boho drop. These knee-high wonders wrinkle and bunch perfectly imperfect, pairing flawlessly with midi skirts.

Princess Kate was seen wearing this trend during a visit to Northern Ireland.

IMG_5490rr.jpg
IMG_5495rr.jpg

The boots are Gianvito Rossi block heel boots in brown suede. You may purchase them here. The coat is Alexander McQueen Bespoke, on Olive.

Burgundy Beauties: The Wine-Stained Sirens of Subtle Drama
Burgundy isn't just fall's color du jour, it's the boot shade that's equal parts vampy romance and I spilled merlot on my soul. Seen strutting at Hermès and Max Mara, these deep-red darlings flatter every skin tone like a magical filter, making your legs look endlessly elongated and eternally elegant.

Zara Tindall was seen wearing Dune London Suede boots in burgundy recently. The bag is also Dune London, the skirt and jacket are The Fold London Napier Boiled Wool in Navy.

IMG_5496rr.jpg

I couldn’t find the suede boots, but a smooth leather substitute can be found here.

Equestrian Elegance: Gallop Into Fall With Polo-Ready Panache
Saddle up for fall's equestrian-inspired boots, where countryside charm meets city sophistication, straight from the stables of Gucci, Tory Burch and of course, Hermes. These polished, riding-style boots boast sleek lines, structured silhouettes, and subtle hardware—like buckles or stirrup details—that whisper "I summer in the Hamptons" without the trust fund. Perfect for pairing with tailored blazers or cozy sweater dresses, they bring a refined yet adventurous vibe, like you’re one canter away from a countryside.

IMG_5498rr.jpg
IMG_5493rr.jpg

Once again, we have Zara Tindall as a great example. The coat is Hobbs London Livia Wrap Coat in Vicuna, the bag is Fairfax & Favor Rye Crossbody in black leather. The sunglasses are Monc Belleville in Whiskey. The boots are Fairfax & Favor Regina high heeled boots in Mahogany leather.

Unfortunately they are sold out, otherwise I would be adding another pair of boots to my closet. Here is a cute alternative from Burberry.

Our SLOTUS has been in Israel this week looking fabulous, her style is really starting to elevate as she becomes more comfortable with her role. She wore 2 outfits from Anthropology :

IMG_5488rr.jpg
IMG_5501rr.jpg

On October 22, she, along with the VP, meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal Herzog. The meeting took place at the Beit Hanassi presidential residence. Usha Vance wore Alice & Olivia Breann Long Fitted Blazer and Alice & Olivia Tisa Mid-Rise Boot-Cut Pants. I can’t tell the shoes.

History plus Geography equals Archaeology!

This one has been in my ONT queue for a while. Enjoy!

Hadrian's Wall: The defensive Roman wall that protected the frontier in Britain for 300 years

doof-hadrians-wall.jpg

Hadrian's Wall served as the most northerly frontier of the Roman Empire for 300 years. The wall is located in northern England, runs for about 74 miles (118 kilometers) between Bowness-on-Solway in the west and Wallsend in the east.

Construction started around A.D. 122, after a visit to Britain by Emperor Hadrian (reign A.D. 117 to 138 ), who was determined to consolidate the Roman Empire's borders. England and Wales had both fallen to Roman control by A.D. 61 when the Iceni queen, Boudica, was defeated. Scotland, however, had successfully resisted Roman attempts at conquest thanks to a people called the "Caledonians" who thwarted attempts by Roman legions to take permanent control of the Scottish lowlands.

The wall was Hadrian's attempt to establish a defensible border between southern Britain and the unconquered north. Built using local materials by Roman soldiers from the II, VI and XX legions, the wall's initial fortifications were finished within a few years and were staffed mainly by auxiliary (non-Roman citizen) units.

Much more at the link. Long and interesting article!

She starts tomorrow, where her siblings are in school. It is probably fine. I know, however, she'd rather be with me. I'd rather her be with me as well.

She really tries to talk to me and has a lovely smile. Maybe she will throw a fit over the next few days and she and I will win!

A few days ago I was in rare tears (I shed four, two from each eye, if you are counting... and I only cry at all about every 7yrs or so) over this horror and my thoughts. But I go with the flow and trust in God. Have turned it over to Him. It is either that or kidnapping her.

156 he funny thing about the Home Depot lumber video is that no exaggeration is required. Reality is as shown.

There must be a bin in every store for misfit squiggly lumber that nobody would buy. Wonder what happens to those pieces? Firewood?

Posted by: TRex - bootless dino at October 26, 2025 10:22 PM (IQ6Gq)

With all the renovations I did in the last few years to the old and new house I was in home depot every day. Picking through lumber there is right up there with ball surgery with a rusty soup can lid. Then I would watch the mutha&^((#%WE bastard raghead come in with wife and 6 kids in tow and pick a nice straight piece of molding thats sold by the foot, and cut 3 feet off of it and toss the rest in the bin. What are you possibly going to do with 3 feet of molding you cheap ass bastard, is that a wife beater stick? You're only going to fuck it up at home when you try to cut it with a steak knife so just buy the whole frigging length.

Finally. I worked B-52s a long time. In 1986 or so, I saw a tabletop model of the "soon-to-come" B-52J, which was to have new engines. Here we are ONLY 40 years later getting new engines. The AF isn't even to own the engines and won't do much maintenance on them. The deal with RR covers just about everything. There is some irony/limitation. The wings on the jet are speed limited according to aircraft weight, so overall performance won't change very much.

237 The USMC Marathon was today here in Babylon DC. The best part about it is the subway is open at 0500. Normally it's 0700 on weekends. The bad part is trying to get to the train when hundreds of runners are clogging the escalators and metro platform. I politely but forcefully made my way through the crowd. Way too much humanity.

My wife called this evening to tell me that her friend's neighbor, across the back fence, had one of the dead trees in the yard blow down on the neighbor's own roof in the storm, and she wanted to know if I wanted the tree for firewood.
I had to reassure her that the tree company could use the wood either for sale or to donate, and we had more than we can burn this winter.

As someone pointed out a few days back, he endured Mafia-run Atlantic City for decades and came out smelling like a rose. Conflict is bad for legal business, but good for organized crime, big labor, and Democrats. Trump looks at the U.S. as a business and wants it to thrive. The Democrats look at the U.S. as a grift and don't care what happens as long as the money keeps rolling in.

Posted by: JackStraw at October 26, 2025 10:13 PM (viF8m)

*** Agree and, btw, it wasn't a single trade deal that was signed. It was three. Trump oversaw the signing of the peace deal between Cambodia and Thailand, achieved with Malaysian assistance, AND proceeded to sign trade deals with all three countries with significant concessions to the US. He also found time to stride the red carpet like a colossus, receiving the highest of receptions, and also make a side trip along the self-same carpet to actually acknowledge the host of traditional dancers receiving him and, in true Trump " I was born to do retail politics" fashion, he stopped and "danced" with them. Now he's wheels up. Incredible. I really am in awe.

285 Hello everyone, it's Quarter Twenty.
I'm warm and toasty in my own bed in the comfy confines of the home place.
After 15 days and sixteen states I've returned to what I'll simply refer to as "East Coast."
What an enjoyable Road trip. Finally got to a Texas MoMe and thoroughly enjoyed it! Great to meet so many people in person. Along the way I visited with all three of my siblings, one of my kids and my three grandkids. Seven nights camping and seven in hotel rooms. Beautiful weather made it so nice.

And technology: Hipcamp, Android Auto, Google Maps, YouTube Premium, Starlink, Citi (plus my bank), Walmart, weather, and hotel booking apps.

All powered by countless free refills of McDonald's 29+ coffee.

From Maryland to Mississippi, Tennessee to Texas, Alabama to Arkansas, I saw so many great things.
Western NC is breathtaking. Rice paddies in Arkansas are fascinating, the massive farms of southern Illinois are impressive, and Interstate 68 is one of the prettiest drives I've ever been privileged to take.

I can now fully endorse a meme I saw just a month ago:

"If you want to hate America, watch the news.
If you want to love America, drive across it."

312 9 [264 comments] 'ShainS -- Bury My Heart At a Texas MoMe '

------------

WTAF? I made the Wall of Shame? I think that's only the third time in a decade (first week of commenting made it as a sock-puppeteer).

Made it last year when I dared to take a f*cking vacation from work and we went on a wonderful Alaskan cruise; this past week must have been an unexpected result of attending the TX MoMe, after which I've been in a tremendous manic phase and is really annoying The Poor, Long-Suffering Wifey.

And don't get me started on three- and four-hour philosophical discussions in the middle of the night, and owing to insomnia, with Grok.

As I wrote to a cousin earlier today: it's somewhat depressing to realize that we're in the 4th Quarter of life -- and I pray that we're actually in the 3rd Quarter (but obviously past Half-Time) -- unless "AI" and "SkyNet" co-opt our bodies and turn us into batteries a la "The Matrix."

315 Long ago took a trip that had me go through Tokyo en route to Singapore. DC/Chicago/Narita was pretty long - and then somehow I hadn't noticed it was *7 more hours* to Singapore. Yikes.

However it did work out in a way. I started reading Clavell's "King Rat" when leaving O'Hare. I finished it minutes before landing at Chang'i in S'pore - and out the side of the plane, as I landed, I could see the ruins/site of the Chang'i POW camp in which Clavell was held and which was the setting for the novel. That was sort of interesting and weird.

If you are up here wearing a suit and tie, you are a California lawyer. Same is true of those lovely boiled wool skirt suits and high boots the ladies wear. Beautiful, but no practical. Oh well.

... I'm watching AOC shouting herself hoarse at a Mamdani rally. Massive crowd cheering like insanity, chanting TAX THE RICH! TAX THE RICH! When Nanny Mamdani's initiatives inevitably fail -- $30/hr minimum wage, free childcare, free buses, utopian grocery stores, rent freezes -- those people are going to riot. I expect huge violence before 2028. Trump, of course, will be blamed.

This is going to be a huge problem.

JQ, a cat lover like me just wants to bring him in and make him cozy forever -- but if he won't use the box, OUT he goes! At least he lets you know!

There was a half-broken, tattered old cat that used to live on my block. He'd eat food that you put out, fight any other cat that came within a foot of him, and shimmy backwards at the sight of an open door. We called him Jesse James. When he died, he pretty much dropped in his tracks.

380 Blonde Morticia, I really love this cat!

He's just.. a cool dude. Mellow. Doesn't go looking for fights (neutered by former owner) and munches the rodent and grasshopper populations down. My kinda critter!

I've taught him that *indoors is ok* and *rubbys are ok* since he arrived here about 4 years ago. He was quite hesitant at first.

My former cats were obnoxious with their lap-loving ways, so this dude is kind of a relief. He's so chill. Will hang out nearby whenever I'm outside, and sometimes approach for a "bonk" and skritch, then continue on his way.

At this point, I bet Obama would. He'll probably get into the new ballroom when JD Vance is inaugurated and fume all the way home.

I've had cats with every kind of personality in the DSM-V. The cat my mom stole from me is one of the duller cats I've owned; hence my minimal protests. You're lucky you've got a cool cat right now.

Yes, it does. The collision course has been set for years and it's just a matter of time before it happens. Watching that crowd, there is no way they're gonna settle for crumbs. Everyone should be fortifying their buildings now.

386 I've got to get a good picture of Cat, one that shows his colors. Well, he's black and white, LOL, those are his "colors"!

But not a tuxedo, no, he's more of a "cow cat" as was discussed here some months ago.

Time to dust off the excerpt from Mickey Spillane's 'One Lonely Night'. Haven't done that in a while:

“I killed more people tonight than I have fingers on my hands. I shot them in cold blood and enjoyed every minute of it. I pumped slugs into the nastiest bunch of bastards you ever saw and here I am calmer than I’ve ever been and happy too. They were Commies, Lee. They were red sons-of-bitches who should have died long ago.”

* golf clap *

Hope to meet you some day, Dog! Isn't it time for an Israeli MoMe?

Getting over there to the Hold Land is definitely on my bucket list (I'm a YUGE Dennis Prager fan, and enamored of his Rational Bible Torah series -- and pray that he can recover from his horrible fall and injuries).

I've gone from Ayn Rand a-theist radical libertarian to agnostic conservative to a believer in Satan (since 2020) -- and hence a believer in God -- to Christian-Curious as moved & touched by Charlie Kirk, but am fond of saying that as a self-described "Justice Freak" if I had to convert to a religion, it would likely be the "Eye For An Eye" Judaism over the "Turn The Other Cheek" Christianity.

The Wifey and I have been watching "The Chosen" and it's very well done, and I cry most every episode. I'm like the Fox Mulder of Simon Peters: "I WANT TO BELIEVE."

It's a spiritual dilemma between the head and the heart ...
