Lambada: The Forbidden Dog Dance Cafe

wolfandcubs.jpg
Wolf and her pups

More horrors from Down Under. And I don't mean Kamala Harris's stank.

Another Australian adventure.

This elephant heard some humans saying "Akshually the hippo is the most dangerous animal in Africa" and got really steamed.

Owls are making a play to become America's third-favorite pet.

Seals want in, too.

Snails, snacking.

Cranky senior turtles having a spat.

Racing an emu.

Can you spot the party-crasher? (He's near the horizon, in about the middle of the screen for most shots.)

Big rock slide.

The sun ejecting plasma.

39 I was in boy scout camp once in CO. Most everyone was sitting around the fire, a few dozen of us kids and some adults and I think I was standing at the time. Nighttime during a light rain.

Lightning hits a tree maybe 30 feet away and I didn't hear a thing. But it went from nighttime dark to daylight bright. And the light lingered for awhile then dimmed and there was just the campfire again. I realized I couldn't hear anything. And then ringing in my ears and sound started coming back.

And then I noticed I was the only one there, everyone else was gone, and I ran to my tent.

Early childhood memory. The details get foggier as the years go by but I still remember perfectly the absolute quiet and the light dimming.

Looks like the edge of the roof deck is rotten from the ridge down most of the way to the eave, on the northeast corner only. 🚨 WOW! In a MASSIVE win, the Trump DHS successfully BANNED ALL immigration judges from giving illegal aliens bond - a tactic WIDELY used to facilitate the invasion under Biden

“A new immigration court directive could keep people detained MUCH longer until they're deported."

"The Board of Immigration Appeals...for the first time in American history ruled immigration judges can NO LONGER grant bond for undocumented immigrants who entered the U.S. without authorization, all-but guaranteeing MANDATORY detention for those detained. It is a monumental decision." 🔥🔥

This will ensure they can't flee and avoid deportation if caught! HUGE.

I got into this kick of trying out weird variations of eggs benedict, like crabcakes benedict, which are nice. I would like a job as an eggs benedict inspector, travel around the world, inspect the eggs benedict for proper form, and presentation, and such. I think I could provide a lot of cultural value there.

Things go so wrong. Eventually, the principal turns himself into a bowl of zoodles which Olivia Mom's eats. Principal eventually reemerges and takes human form stepping out of the toilet.

That was just so wrong. And hilarious. All characters were left traumatised.

It got to the point that branches were cracking everywhere; very odd sound, all quiet except for this constant cracking overhead. I walked outside to take it in.

The main power line to our neighborhood, runs along the road in front of our house, I think 40,000 V. I was about 30 feet from it, when suddenly a rather large branch came off the oak tree and landed flat on it - swung around til it made contact with the ground, and BAM! That discharge was a bolt of energy about 2’ around, sounded like a stick of dynamite. I ran inside and my wife, who’d heard it, just said “WHAT DID YOU DO???”

I knew a professor (back in the 80s) at the University of Arizona’s Atmospheric Sciences department whose specialty was lightning. Lightning is very powerful. Power is Joules/s or Watts. 255 That lightning is serious shit. I lost a big ass oak tree in the backyard of my backyard of my old house. Thank god it was at the farthest reaches of the property. I opened the blinds of the sliding door to the patio and something looked weird. Then I see these huge gigantic log laying in the yard. I'm staring at it thinking wtf is that??? It didn't look like a tree. There are no branches, no leaves, just a huge log. I start looking around and then I saw it. the whole top of the tree with all the branches and leaves was hanging in another tall oak tree next to it. Then I saw about 4 feet of tree stump blown wide open and split down to the ground. Thats when I knew. Lightning had hit it, blew the entire top off which was stuck in the tree next to it,and turned the remainder of the tree into a huge log. I said to Mrs B, "we lost a tree". She says, one of the small ones? I said not really, have a look. She walks past me, goes into the room and I hear HOLY SHIT. lol

The sansho & sichuan "peppers" (same genus, different species) are citrus trees themselves. That's why they got imported under weird names like "prickly ash," because they carried diseases that could cross over to American citrus trees. So imports were banned for several decades, until the mid-2000s.

263 How much leeway does POTUS have to renovate the White House? It's not his permanent home, just on loan to him while he's in office. I would think some changes would be off limits as the White House probably has protection as a historically significant building.
Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel

The POTUS is expected to run any renovations by the White House architect who is there to see that any changes preserve the architectural integrity of the building. After that Trump has go through the permitting process. Who decides to issue the permit? The POTUS. Remember that Truman gutted the entire interior of the White House since it was structurally about to collapse. All wood beams were replaced with steel beams, and everything was put back as close as possible to the way it was. I think Truman’s wife came up with the Lincoln bedroom. Lincoln never slept there although he may have used it as an office. It is decorated with furniture and furnishings from Lincoln’s time in the White House. Also both the East and West Wings were added as late as the 1930s under FDR.

264 I lost a big ass oak tree in the backyard of my backyard of my old house.

My understanding of the East Wing, currently being replaced, is that part of it was built in 1902 and the rest was built by FDR to cover an underground bomb proof bunker added during WW2.

273 >>> The main power line to our neighborhood, runs along the road in front of our house, I think 40,000 V.
Posted by: Tom Servo at October 23, 2025 09:04 PM (WtEb/)

An underground junction for a big power line at my university, high voltage that powered our three phase wind tunnel motor, was being serviced. They had put a bunch of insulating foam stuff over the junction, spray on kind, waited for it to dry and energized the circuit again.

Well I guess they didn't wait long enough for it to dry because it arced, traveled up the steel siding of a test lab building then up towards the sky. I talked to people that saw it arc up into the air from the other side of campus. A big flash. I didn't see it but I heard it and it sounded like an explosion.

So we went outside. I squeezed underneath it, flat on my back, and had the tenant take a gag photo of me lying there, crushed to death by the thing, can of beer lying, knocked from my hand. Pics around here somewhere.

Trivia: Hackberry seeds have a thin coat membrane that tastes like sweet tea, only better. Hence another common name: teaberry. I miss those.

307 Back before the Earth cooled, I worked in a [*] mainframe shop. They decided to install terminals in all the branch offices around the USA. The terminal WAN had no "subnet." Every terminal nationwide saw the same raw traffic as every other terminal did.

When I discovered that, I demonstrated to management that anybody, at any terminal nationwide, could use a one-and-a-half keystroke sequence to switch the terminals to raw display mode. Anybody could read everybody else's traffic, in plain text.

Management did NOT like me pointing that out to them. (I was generally disliked in the workplace, for any number of reasons.) The ops manager quit shortly after, and then I did shortly after that. 90 hours weekly work for 40 hours weekly pay was getting real old anyway.

The goal? To witness a positive lightning ground strike in the open desert, stop my car, wait for the storm to pass, then walk out to the place where the bolt hit, and try to retrieve with shovel and Wisk broom, a perfectly fused, glassed sculpture of a lightning strike from the ground.
