Is This Something?

Almost 20 years ago, an animated video was released telling the world the real story of George Washington, who saved the children (but not the British children).

Angel Studios optioned that video and made a live-action movie about it.*

* Not really. It's just a movie about young George Washington being a bad ass.

That'll be released just in time for America's 250th anniversary, July 3, 2026.

A Hollywood movie actually attempts to grapple with the excesses and lunacies of the #MeToo witch-hunts.

Mark Judge, journalist and high school friend of Bret Kavanaugh, knows something about the power of evidence-free accusations during a witch-hunt.

After the Hunt is about how false #MeToo accusations can create a mob atmosphere and destroy lives, even driving people to suicide. It's particularly bad if the setting is academia, where hyper-sensitive prevails even as students and faculty tremor to ruin anyone who doesn't parrot leftist wokespeak.

After the Hunt stars Julia Roberts as Alma, a Yale philosophy professor who is about to get tenure. She is married to a psychotherapist, Frederik, and is close friends with Hank (Andrew Garfield). Alma's best student is Maggie (Ayo Edebiri). One night, Maggie and Hank leave a cocktail party together. The next day, Maggie tells Alma that Hank sexually assaulted her. Hank replies that Maggie fabricated the story after he confronted her about plagiarism. This conflict creates hysteria on campus, with all of the characters in danger of losing their careers and their sanity.

I know what you're thinking. A major Hollywood movie starring Julia Roberts and about #MeToo is not going to come down on the side of men, socially, when the character making the accusation is a minority and a lesbian. And yet - hang on - that's exactly what happens. Star student and protege Maggie is in fact a plagiarist. Her professors pretend to think she's brilliant because she's the daughter of big donors and, as Michelle Goldberg put it in the New York Times, "presumably, because she's Black and queer." "You are the worst kind of mediocre student," Alma tells Maggie. "With every availability to succeed but no talent or desire to do so, yet so many resources, so much of other people’s time is wasted on you." This dialogue actually made it into a Hollywood movie starring Julia Roberts.

If that's not enough, in the film's climax, Alma reveals that as a teenager she had an affair with her father's best friend. Then, in a jealous rage when he wanted to move on afterward, she falsely accused him of sexual assault. Eventually, the man commits suicide. "He was a good man, and I destroyed him with a lie," Alma tells her husband.

It's an understatement to say I was stunned by After the Hunt. My book The Devil's Triangle is about the nightmare I lived in 2018 during the Brett Kavanaugh nomination battle, when a woman named Christian Blasey Ford claimed that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in 1982 and that I was in the room when it happened. As I have written on Hot Air, the last several years of my life have often been spent debunking attempts by Hollywood and the media to create a false narrative about what happened. Hollywood has been a central part of the attempt to declare me and Kavanaugh guilty.

I personally won't watch it because 1, too little too late as usual, and no one's actually admitting any wrongdoing, are they?

And 2, Hollywood is dead to me.

And 3, F*** Julia Roberts.

Ultra-gay TV producer Ryan Murphy still thinks it's 2018, because he's produced a girlboss/vengeance on toxic men TV show.

8 I watched After the Hunt.

It is very definitely not woke.

But, it is kinda dull.

Needed better editing.

And it is a looong movie.

The way it unfolds feels pretty realistic.

But sometimes realistic isn't very theatrical.

So...it is good for not being woke, but not such a great movie aside from that.

17 My favorite Little Known True Fact(tm) about George Washington is that he was in charge of some red injuns on a patrol, and they came upon some other red injuns along with a couple French officers. Washington list control of his injuns, and they killed one of the Frogs and scooped his brains out of his head with their hands. This was one of the precipitating events of the French and Indian Wars of 1754 to 1763.

The Frog'n Injun Wars led to huge debt incurred by Great Britain on the colonists' behalf, as Britain sent armies and navies to the New World to defend the borders of the colonies.

That huge war debt led directly to the taxes that Britain's parliament imposed on the colonies, which, of course, led directly to the American Revolution. Which George Washington led.

I imagine when he was inaugurated in 1781 for his first term as president, he must have been in a little shock at how well his fuckup in the forest in 1754 ended up for him.

27 >> the power of evidence-free accusations during a witch-hunt.

Me-too was just another op in the effort to promote AWFL’s and women in the workplace in order to destroy the traditional family. They spent years brainwashing women in college that being the SVP of HR was so much more fulfilling than raising your family without nannies and every other third party doing your job. Super Mom? Remember that. A woman who dedicated her life to the job and then took the kids to soccer on a Saturday between office phone calls. But in order to achieve they needed to destroy men. So it was all about workplace discrimination, quotas and me-too to empty jobs of men and promote women.

The have done more damage to our society with this garbage. Especially when you consider most of these women have become woke warriors and reliable Democrat voters no matter how awful their agenda is. They are true believers whose contribution to our society isn’t even a third of what most stay at home moms contribute.

38 One thing I didn't get at all...

Julia Roberts was a professor on track for tenure. Didn't have it, but hoping to get it.

The scandal breaks, everyone freaks out, Julia Roberts steals a doctors prescription pad, and writes herself fake prescriptions of medicines cuz she is abusing pharmaceuticals to get high/not unhappy.

They (the faculty) find out about her stealing the pad and doing fake prescriptions and go "Hey, tenure is off the menu now."

So she is screwed...

But at the end (denoument?) Julia and the fake accuser talk to each other/confront each other and we learn that Julia is now the DEAN of that department.

Which seems like one hell of a promotion that was never explained.

58 Washington was unquestionably the most consequential person in American history. As noted above, he started the North-American portion of the Seven Years' War (which in turn set off the European and Asian portions of that war.
Then he led the Continental Army to victory in the Revolution, then served as President of the Continental Congress, and then as the first President under that Constitution, setting precedents for that office that are still observed almost 250 years later.

No other American even comes close to Washington's influence in US and World history.

What pissed me off the most about her story (what should have pissed off everyone who heard it) was that she didn't know exactly when it happened, she didn't know exactly where it happened, and she didn't know how she got there or how she left.
Guess what bitch, you're talking about some fantasy dream sequence that you are trying to pretend was real! That is so damned obvious.

I remember some journo who thought he was smart worked out some map from her dream fantasy and named the house he thought she was describing. In a few hours, his papers legal department got ahold of him and said "Wait, do you realize you just used our paper to publicly accuse a private person of being party to a rape, based on no evidence whatsoever?" His apologies and crawfishing were epic.

In my experience, it was not a fresh, new challenge that demanded a solution.

However, #MeToo was centered on Lefty workplaces/environments, such as MSM and Hollywood. They clearly never cleaned up shop back when it was first addressed, yet pretended it was a HUGE problem everywhere. Totally myopic.

In my experience in academia, yes, once tenure is off the table, the asst. prof usually goes somewhere else to try again. And the chair or dean of a department -- though he or she may not *want* the job -- is usually at least an associate professor, a promotion which comes with tenure.

153 The worst part is that Wheel of Time could have been awesome if the writers had just followed the story as written! The Eye of the World is perfectly paced to fit within a 10-episode story arc (with maybe a slight tweak here or there). Later books would be much more complicated but the first book is a very linear adventure story from start to finish.

157 Oh my. I didn't watch the trailer for "All's Fair," but I *did* open the YouTube, expand the description and then read it.

A team of female divorce attorneys leave a male-dominated firm to open their own powerhouse practice. Fierce, brilliant, and emotionally complicated, they navigate high-stakes breakups, scandalous secrets, and shifting allegiances—both in the courtroom and within their own ranks. In a world where money talks and love is a battleground, these women don’t just play the game—they change it.

The series stars Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Matthew Noszka with Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close.

One amusing thing about the cultural inflection point through which we're living is how all of this slop that was in the pipeline for years became immediately and hopelessly dated even before release.

162 One of the worst aspects of #MeToo was that normal workplace sexual harassment had been dealt with back when Anita Hill made it a national obsession. In my experience, it was not a fresh, new challenge that demanded a solution.

Yes, it's assistant professor with possibility of tenure (though my department hired one or two with the clear statement that tenure was not possible for them). If he is approved by the tenured members of the department, he becomes an associate with tenure. Some want to go for the last ring, full professor. But it's possible to have a long career, including serving as chair, without it.

The associate prof who hired me way back in '02 had begun at the dept. in the Eighties as an adjunct instructor, i.e., he had his Ph.D., but was not initially on the tenure ladder. Somehow he advanced to that, and retired last year as a full prof.

If a woman ever tries to get you to watch Kidman's "Australia", DO NOT FALL FOR IT. It felt like it was 6 hours long, and probably approached 3 hours in real life. And the worst part about it was that IF the movie had rolled the end-credits at about the 90-minute mark, it would have been AWESOME...but it didn't...and it just murked around again for another hour or so before AGAIN ramping up some action (but less than before the 90-minute mark) and FINALLY ending. By the time the REAL ending came to be, I was really pissed at whoever signed off on that mess.

I enjoyed "Alien: Earth" a lot.

Lots of competing agendas among people, corporations, androids, humans, cyborgs, monsters make for a fun watch.

Great monsters and the Xenomorph isn't even the worst. The Eyeball is one to watch out for.
The girl boss may in fact turn out to be the villain. We'll see next season if there is one.

Lots of pot stirring that is only partially paid off by the end of the season.

They tried to do something new in that the Xenomorph is more a MacGuffin than the main antagonist.

Check it out.
