Fiddlesticks. Judas Priest. 26. Gee willickers!Bonus: Did any of your kids, nieces, or nephews ever give you that hot flush of embarrassment by dropping one of their newly discovered words in public? Church? School? Somewhere even worse? *** May as well do some Mark Twain quotes on swearing. He did have a way with words. There ought to be a room in every house to swear in. It's dangerous to have to repress an emotion like that. Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer. ...quadrilateral, astronomical, incandescent son-of-a-bitch. Mini Rant (a true rant would require...more attention). Attention span and lack thereof. Article quotes the predictable, boring "fixes" that seem to get published for every human malady. I have an idea for the afflicted: Try harder. Not long ago, there were reports comparing human attention spans unfavorably to those of a fish. It was claimed the average attention span for a goldfish was just nine seconds — a whole second longer than the average attention span for a person. First, it was an unfair attack on goldfish, who have demonstrated an impressive capacity for memorizing directions. Second, if you manage to get past the second paragraph of this article, you may have just proved the stat wrong.Summary of the study here. 47% say that “deep thinking” has become a thing of the past – roughly double the proportion who disagree with this view (23%) Hat tip to commenter, Idaho Spudboy for the topic. Yellowstone "Zone of Death." Deep in Yellowstone National Park lies a 50-square-mile strip of Idaho known as the “Zone of Death,” where a legal quirk could, in theory, let someone dodge prosecution for serious crimes like murder. First flagged by law professor Brian C. Kalt in 2005, this loophole stems from a clash between federal jurisdiction and the Constitution’s Sixth Amendment, sparking debate about justice in America’s wildest corners.Another take on the "Zone of Death." Michael Belderrain illegally shot an elk in Montana in 2005 and cited Kalt’s article as a defense in 2007. Belderrain was standing in Yellowstone when he pulled the trigger and then dragged the elk to his truck parked in Yellowstone. Belderrain was indicted in the Wyoming District and objected that he had a right to be tried by jurors from Montana, which is actually possible, as the Montana portion of Yellowstone is (sparsely) inhabited by people. Instead of trying to call such a jury in a loosely populated portion of Montana and argue why the Sixth Amendment did not entitle Belderrain to such a trial, the court dismissed the argument, supposedly because it would imply the Yellowstone Zone of Death contained a loophole. Ultimately, Belderrain took a plea deal and the issue was left unresolved. For now, the loophole remains for Kalt’s imagined “perfect crime,” with the perpetrator potentially walking away freely. If you want to argue about the best all time country songs, head head to this list. As a non-country music liking heathen, I recommend we cut to the real fun. The funniest country songs ever written. A bench vise must have the handle hanging straight down when not in use.
There is a protocol for installing them, too. The inboard jaw should be located just proud of the edge of the edge of the bench, that way long pieces can be secured that need to hang vertical below the bench. Posted by: Common Tater at October 21, 2025 10:27 PM (ywAtJ) 110

Part 2
I see people touching everything to these relics. A cop touching his badge, women touching pictures, jewelry, rosaries, etc. I got nothing, just keys. Then I remember a pocket of guitar picks I always carry, so I touched a whole stack to everything, including what they claim to be a piece of the cross. I charged them up good, and my keys. So now I leave with a pile of semi worn class 3 relic powered guitar picks. I put them on my computer desk in a separate area, put a few in my pocket, and then spent 2 years staring at them. Every weekend I see the prayer list here and then my eyes go to those picks. Then last year the idea hit me, bring some to the mome for a few of the horde that really could use it. I didn't make it last year, but I did this year, and the 2 people that really stuck in my mind this year was Sponge's wife Kelly, and Theresa. I did have a few extra, so 2 others got them as well. On the surface, they are half used guitar picks. I spent years tossing them to people, but none were special like this. These babies got mojo, and I can't think of a better use for them. I think I'll go look for it again. He talks about being a survivor of the Hartford Circus Fire 1948 where about 150 people burned. It made him nervous to sit in an audience for the rest of his life. We sent our kids to the neighborhood Catholic school because it seemed like a much better intellectual and cultural situation.
Our 2nd daughter came home for lunch one day, leaned in close and said, "The boys are using the "F" word on the playground." I was a little disappointed, because I had hoped she would be able to stay child like for a few more years. I said, "I'm sorry they are saying that and upsetting you." She then leaned in even closer and said, "They keep saying fart!" Bride of PI and I just grinned at each other - it turns out we had picked the right school. In my yewt, I was driving my girlfriend's VW bug on the freeway with her and her three year old nephew in the back seat. I got cut off and the MFr word came out of my mouth. Minutes later, off the freeway, I had to to slam on the brakes to avoid another idiot. Out of the back seat came a hearty MFr! Spent the next ten minutes explaining why he shouldn't say that word. He didn't buy my explanations. I had a very frank conversation with his very pissed off mother a few weeks later.

Was it George Jones who did the relatively recent song about the girl in the Corvette? "The One I Loved Back Then."
"I had one that was Hotter than a two dollar pistol, She was the fastest thing around! Long and lean, every young man's dream, She turned every head in town. She was built, and fun to handle, son; I'm glad that you dropped in -- She reminds me of the one I loved back then." Imagine a rather precocious 2 1/2 year old young lady with a penchant for politeness going through a stage where every time she said "thank you" is sounded a whole lot like "f*ck you". And, she said "thank you" at every opportunity because it was one of the first phrases that always solicited surprise on pleased grown-up's faces.
The hilarious thing about all of that is the context. We knew what she was saying and meant. She knew what she was saying, and meant. But, the context of the situations in which she would use it were legend. A waiter brings her some food in a restaurant...eye contact and "thank you/ f*ck you". I credit that time with my ability to keep a straight face no matter the circumstances. Thank God we video taped it for posterity...and the kiddo's embarrassment. Cussin' story #1
I was maybe less than thirteen when, one day, up at the lake, we were chucking rocks into the water (no good skippers to be found). Uphill from me, my step-brother picks up a big sort-flat rock, which, naturally, lands smack on top of my head. I let loose with a torrent of words that I didn't even realize I knew! Fortunately, I don't think any of the adults heard me. Doc, friend of Dad's, said if he had his kit with him, he'd put a stitch in it. I probably still have a scar but still have my hair, so I don't know. Cussin' story #2 Mom must have been in her late eighties when she happened to mention a word she said she'd never heard before: m_____f_____. As she walked out of the room all casual like. I don't care how old either of us was, that's a heckuva thing to hear from one's mother — who never cussed that I can (otherwise) recall. We were out in sturgis one year and I walked in to a tattoo place out of curiosity. the door was open and you saw people getting tattoos as you walked by. I looked on the wall and there it was.. the holy grail of tattoos as if the universe custom designed it for me. A reaper with the most wicked and detailed skull in a purple hooded robe and holding a blue gibson flying V guitar, the guitar I used most of the time for decades. I would have changed out the colors of the robe and guitar, but it was amazing, it was me. Of all the tattoos on the planet that one was MINE. It would have fit perfect on my upper right arm. It was THEE tattoo for me. Mrs B looks at it, turns to me and says in a low, slow, menacing tone "There is no...fucking...way..I'm waking up to that on the morning." Sigh...I knew she meant business. Posted by: Pug Mahon Knows Stuff I often use doe in heat urine when I am hunting. It states on the bottle, do not use on yourself. There is a good reason for this. Of course I ignore that warning. Was hunting one day. Very calm day, no wind yet multiple times I was hearing does snorting in alarm. They were far enough away I was sure it wasn't me that was spooking them and it was a week day with no other hunters in the area. Multiple times I got a strange, hair on the back of my neck feeling. Gave up just before dusk and walking back to the truck, I got the same eerie feeling. Dropped the tailgate, sat down and unloaded my rifle. I looked up, and a big cat came up the same trail onto the road. He froze looking at me and then crouched. I didn't realize I could load my gun that fast. He jumped and disappeared just as I jacked a shell into the magazine. I still put doe in heat on my person. This freakout over Trump's new YUGE, classy, luxurious, fine Corinthian leather ballroom is hilarious. $1/4B project, all privately funded to make the WH great again. I was reviewing all the renovations that have been done on the WH over the years. Hell, Truman had to rebuild the whole thing, the WH proper. They gutted the entire WH, and there are pictures of that. They left the exterior walls standing, and completely rebuilt the interior. Photos show excavators inside, dirt and new steel framing be added all within the husk of the exterior walls. They had to, the old structure was about to collapse. Interior of the WH in May, 1950: https://is.gd/7rDv2n The second floor of the old WH was in serious danger of collapsing. The Trumans noticed a chandelier would sway when too many people were in one of the rooms. He joked that his bathtub was gonna crash through the floor with him in it. It was getting bad during FDR, but he sort of dismissed a lot of the problems. Anyway, there is nothing original in the WH at all, save for the exterior walls. First World Problems!
I've had my first glitch with Linux Mint 22.2 (the latest version). I was using Firefox while on AoS and on a different tab, looking at X. The screen locked up. The mouse could move around but clicking did nothing. Had to power it off. Waited a bit, turned it back on, and I thought it was fine but nope. Same scenario happened. So, I repeated what I did before and while booting up, I got an error message over and over. Looked up error message and apparently Linux Mint 22.2 has problems with Radeon chips. Mine anyway and others after looking up the error message. So, I'll try some steps I saw at Linux Mint forums, tomorrow. Posted by: Ex-Ex at October 21, 2025 10:13 PM (22p5n) Thing is, if one were being completely anal about it, one would torque the screws to the specified torque value, and leave the slots where they wind up. I just stumbled across the infamous Mars Bluff, SC nuclear incident in 1958. The Air Force accidentally dropped a nuclear bomb on a farm community in Florence county, SC. The "physics package" wasn't installed, kept separately, but the conventional implosion explosive did go off on impact, making a bit crater, damaging buildings, killing chickens, and injuring several people with shrapnel. It was a Slim Pickens type incident. There was some fault with the bomb harness mechanism. The bombardier/navigator went in the bomb bay to try to secure it, and accidentally knocked it loose. It fell on the bomb bay doors, knocking them open, and the bomb dropped on that farm. The bombardier managed to hang on and not fall out with it, like Slim. That was just a WOW! Now, question is, what would have happened if the physics package was installed? Would it have caused a real nuclear explosion? Probably not, because the implosion explosive timing has to be down to the microsecond to generate the correct compressive shock wave, and the inadvertent detonation would've been way off. It would however, have scattered plutonium all over the area, rendering it uninhabitable. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at October 22, 2025 02:16 AM (w6EFb) 461

Can you smell gas? Any evidence of a leak-- even tiny one-- between tank and engine? _-_ No evidence of a leak. Just now replaced the fuel pressure regulator, since that was the easiest first part to replace. There was a small.amount of fuel in it, but definitely no pressure on the fuel line or fuel rail. I am probably going to replace the fuel pump also, since it is a good ten years old. It just seems odd that the vehicle starts and runs but not enough fuel pressure at the rail to even dribble from the schrader valve. Ibguess it is possible the the valve stem in the schrader valve is bad, but they don't usually fail.... Posted by: Don in SoCo at October 22, 2025 02:52 AM (vd6bO) 485

500 Don in SoCo-- When one of my car's injectors 'went bad' I could smell gas when I walked by. It was leaking, but car would still run fine. Just that's where the system depressurized when engine stopped. Had no issues with hot restarts, though.
Good luck! _-_ Thanks - I will definitely check for that. Posted by: Don in SoCo at October 22, 2025 03:24 AM (vd6bO) 504

Don or Donny is not a bad name. You could be President with that, believe me, it's the best Presidential name, classy, really the best
I got worse. Don't care to remember the number of times I have been encouraged to be careful with that axe. Aw, Stateless... {{hugs}}!
I miss my parents, too. Mom had bladder cancer, spread slowly over 2 years & crippled her; she was incoherent that last couple of weeks. Gone since 2002. Dad had prostate cancer, thought he'd beat it for a dozen years & it came back with a vengeance.. but he was alert, thoughtful and talkative right up to the night before he passed. Gone since 2019. Hubby has dementia. No one in my family has suffered *that* so I'm kind of lost here, with no other experience with it. Posted by: JQ at October 22, 2025 03:31 AM (rdVOm) 508

It's all good, Stateless. I mean, as good as it can be under the circumstances.
Took care of hubby for 4 years at home after quitting my job, but then his mental and physical state became more than I could handle alone. 24hr supervision is $$$$. Even more than nursing home! So... moved him to a place nearby, where he can have a whole team of help, 24/7, and I can see him every day. He still knows who he is & who I am. Just has no sense of time or date, and no problem-solving ability; cannot recognize unsafe situations. Stuff like that. Posted by: JQ at October 22, 2025 03:47 AM (rdVOm) 516

It's ok, Stateless. Really.
I don't do the poopy work, or sleep with one eye open anymore-- the nursing home staff takes good care of hubby. Now, I can catch-up on all the stuff at home that has been neglected while I cared for him! Lots to do! It sucks that we're separated, but at least he's still alive and still *my guy* Posted by: JQ at October 22, 2025 03:59 AM (rdVOm) 521
