The 20 core ARM CPU is competitive with the 16 core Zen CPU in the Strix Halo, and the GPU side is basically a laptop 5070 where the Strix Halo performs like a laptop 4070.

But it has problems with things like, oh, displaying video, suggesting it needs a couple more months of software updates.

Price not announced but expected to be about 50% more than equivalent Strix Halo models, so around $3000.
Intel has announced a new datacenter GPU with 160GB of RAM. (Tom's Hardware)

It's for AI, not for you. But interestingly it uses LPDDR5X memory - just like the Strix Halo and the Nvidia DGX Spark above - to allow huge amounts of fairly fast memory rather than demanding modest amounts of extremely fast memory that uses a ton of power.

There are signs that AMD will be releasing similar - but much cheaper - cards in the consumer space next year.
The Orange Pi 4 Pro is another of those Raspberry Pi like single board computers. (Liliputing)

This one has two A76 cores and six A55 cores, putting it fairly close to the Raspberry Pi 5 in performance, and up to 16GB of RAM. Plus an M.2 2280 slot built-in. And a 200MHz RISC-V core in the CPU. And a Pi-compatible IO header.

Price for the 4GB model is rumoured to be around $30. The 4GB Radxa Cubie A7A which has the same CPU sells for around $35, though it's out of stock right now.

AI is really good in expert systems. Analyzing specific things with known and agreed upon rules quickly to free humans to focus on the instances where things are marginal and need an actual brain.

Trouble is that expert systems are harder to use to control the masses so we get "general AI" instead which, while artificial, isn't intelligent and will only be used for nefarious purposes. This woman - https://tinyurl.com/4bj4saxv+ - makes a lot of videos about the issues with AI.

I've been thinking along the same lines. Hamas is not going to roll over as evidenced by them executing other Palestinians and then of violating the agreements by not turning over all the bodies they murdered. There's one way to deal with Hamas and that is to chase them back into their tunnels and then flood them with seawater. It seems a matter of time before Hamas performs another atrocity which requires a boots on the ground response. At that point, yeah...

43 My two main computers here are both Macs, the MacBook Air laptop and a desktop machine, both from 2013, both updated to much more recent operating systems. I do have two Win 10 laptops. No doubt the next time I turn them on, they will want to to transition to Win 11. I recall them urging me about that this summer, the last time I used them.

The Brother unit I've had for some years has a paper jam I can't find, is asking for toner, and in any case I *need* a scanner/copier. For years I had that function on my printers at work and took them for granted. Yesterday I had to go to a local library to print the labels for the hat packages. Annoying.

Both of these came to me in their current boxes, wrapped in shipping paper and plenty of tape. It's hard to find such larger boxes without paying a premium. Both have stiff hat rings inside to hold the crown of the hat, and then I have plastic and paper as padding.

71 The Epson ecco-tank printers are quite nice - they even do a decent job on color pictures. HOWEVER. When you do a refill on the tanks do not attempt to save however much is left in the bottles after the refill and use it to top off the tanks at a later date. The ink from an opened bottle will clog the printer. Only use sealed bottles to fill the tanks.

Over the last week or two the local community around here has been debating the possibility that an AI data center would be built in a mostly rural, sparsely populated county next to ours. There was a zoning commission meeting that saw about 550 local residents show up to voice their displeasure.

As is the case with a lot of these issues, the commission didn't want to discuss matters until it became impossible to ignore.

The county in question here has issue supplying the customers it currently supports with water and electricity. So much in fact, there was debate on whether a data center was even feasible.

I'd wager it was, at the expense of rural utility customers. Who showed remarkable persistence.

I had selected I-40 as our route east so as to avoid possible spring snows on more northerly routes. We were towing a U-Haul trailer behind her Ford Ranger pickup and were no packing snow chains. There was no way that I wanted to have to deal with potential heavy snowfalls under those circumstances.

We're still fighting things over here. Some company came in with the idea of setting up power lines for a place in Virginia. I live in Maryland. They actually tried claiming the local government had signed off on it.

The community meeting was so packed that I actually couldn't stay there. People were furious and making it known.

But I’m sure for a lot of the arguments there’s a cite somewhere for a case. If there isn’t then you have no argument.

This would mean looking it up and finding a cite yourself but the AI can write out the rest, which is all this is really about; lawyers trying to get out of writing the same crap in a brief over and over.

Rocket Lawyer and other sites can just about do everything for you now. I had to use it to write a Will for my Dad.

I think it is a necessary step to full automation and dark factories. This generation and those that are to follow, at least in the West, are profoundly lazy and unreliable. You can't feed a welfare state off the backs of 300# young adults who are addicted to pr0n, cheezeballs and psychotropics.

Japan has figured it out that the young people aren't going to support the generations that busted their asses to provide a world for them to prosper, so they went crazy on robotics.

At the very least, it fronts the money to build modular reactors that are necessary to power a post-modern society.

There are over 2 million robots doing work in robot only factories with a skeleton crew of people making sure everything is running.
