Clarence! Damn your eyes! Read the content - such a rookie mistake.
Congrats on the 1st - haven't had one in a long while. Regarding the content - I do think we need to keep taking about the AI bubble bursting, as it seems to me to be the most over-rated thing I have ever seen. In certain industries/areas it will be very useful - in others, not so much. It is a tool - nothing more - and that tool that is only as good as the people who use it or the information base it is mining for information. It is also NOT artificial Intelligence in its current form, period. Which is why the entire discussion annoys me. It should eb called "Advanced, Limited-Learning Algorithm & User Interface" or "ALAUI", if you are an acronym guy. Posted by: Publius Redux at October 13, 2025 04:10 AM (Gu66x) 5

Last day in London. Moving to Scotland tomorrow. We did find a little excitement Saturday, came up the steps from the underground and walked smack dab into the middle of a Muslim protest. Signs and chants against Israel. We were the only 3 white faces. We got out of that quickly. I get up early before the sun is up and go walking alone, I haven't felt unsafe at all which surprised me.

This was willowed on the tech thread yesterday, on the topic of Amazon deals; seems useful:
213 There is an addon you can get for your browser called Keepa which will show you a price graph over time on the item description page at the Amazon site. It is very good to see if you are getting an actual deal on the item. You can also set price alerts on the same page so you will be notified if the item hits the price point you want. There is also a CapitalOne addon which will compare the Amazon price to other sources like ebay and tell you if it finds a lower price. It picks the wrong item sometimes but that is easy enough to see and it offers other incentives like cash back etc... Between those two addons I have save a ton of money. I've heard that A-Ha song on the '80s oldies FM station here, and I think I recall it when it was new being played on our Top 40 station . . . but I never knew the name of the group or the title of the song. DJs stopped front-selling or back-selling the tunes they played a long time ago. If you didn't listen to Kasey Kasem every week or so, you would find it hard to ID a radio tune.

Mornin' Horde.
I feel bad for the discord users who were forced by their countries age-verification laws to submit identity documents to a company who clearly didn't have proper protection of that information in place. A sensible law would state that companies need to keep track of the date an age verification was done, and what identity instrument was used, and which employee did the verification, and ONLY that. Any submitted images from the holder of the identity documents should then be immediately erased to protect the holder from such a hack that puts them at risk of identity theft. That wasn't done, of course, because governments can't trust people or companies, so they require proof (ongoing) that the identity verification was done properly, so those images get held, and if done insecurely (as is obviously the case with Discord) now a subset of Discord's users are at risk of loans being opened in their name, phone sims being cloned, bank accounts accessed and cleaned out and other nefarious things. Governments were warned. They didn't listen, and here we are, and it's only a few months since these idiotic laws started going into force across the world. The hacking of these mandated systems was planned as soon as the laws were proposed. It is not who did it as much as how many did. That includes the governments who required the identification record. It is just like smuggling. When the King ordered something to be forbidden, it was usually insiders at court who organized the smuggling. President Trump has been in office for 9 months. He has done more in that time than most presidents do in 8 years. Yeah, I pointedly looking at Bathhouse Barry who is so petty he wouldn't give Trump credit for today and hopefully a peace that will persist. As for Biden I shudder to think if the left managed to steal a second term for him; a major global conflict was not out of the question. But President Trump, a man who may have a century of consequences, withstood a withering test for that second term and in 9 months has set the stage for a renewal of American global leadership and renewal of America itself. This man may be our greatest president.

The A-Ha song wasn’t very popular at first, but the video playing on MTV made it explode on the charts after the group had released two previous versions in 1984 and 1985, it finally hit the charts in October of 1985.
Nobody had seen anything like the video before and it won several MTV Music Awards in 1986 for the concept and animation. This was also the second video made for the song as the first didn’t help it much either. I certainly remember watching it back then. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 13, 2025 06:50 AM (6ydKt) 78

I could have had Friday off too as the school board I normally drive for had a PA day* but my company offered me a run for a different board that has different scheduled PA days, so I took them up on that offer. Bills to pay and all that. {*} PA Day: "Professional Activities Day": Teachers are intended to go to work and either get caught up on paperwork or attend meetings intended to give them skills or tools to be better teachers. This man may be our greatest president.
Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at October 13, 2025 06:48 AM (LKdE6) Trump isn’t afraid of making a decision quickly and decisively. Most presidents, Obama especially, would take weeks or months to come to a decision on everything except what to eat for lunch. Trump doesn’t have time for that, and his only political worry is the mid-terms next year, as he won’t have to run for re-election and isn’t worried about repercussions. Trump moves at the speed of Trump. America hasn’t seen the likes of such a persona as president since Teddy Roosevelt over a century ago. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 13, 2025 06:59 AM (6ydKt) 84

I bough a pair of trash cans from Amazon last year to make it easier on my Dad to throw away stuff with one sitting next to him.
They are the kind with sensors that open up a lid when you wave your hand over them. They are light-powered and work pretty well for what they are. But there’s one odd quirk with them, Apparently, the sensor is also picks up radio signals on a certain frequency which I have no clue about. If you point the Dish remote its way and turn the volume up, the lid will open on the trash can. I now have a remote controlled trash can in case I ever want to play trash can basketball without getting up. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 13, 2025 07:16 AM (6ydKt) 97

And Teddy got a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. I wouldn’t doubt that Trump wants that prize to be on Teddy’s level more so than to outdo Obama getting one for being half black and not being named George W. Bush. Posted by: SpeakingOf Recall, too, that Barky O'Bumbles took his having received said prize as the starting gun for him to run guns into Mexico, to destabilize Libya, to gleefully play "Whom shall I obliterate with a drone strike today?" day after day, and many, many other acts of egregious violence that are often affiliated with bringing about states of peace. When he started he was halting and stilted and by the time we got to the night before the election that man could light up an audience. He is really on message today and is 100% himself. Yeah. And Benghazi, which was all the fault of a terribly made YouTube video. His only decisive moment was killing Bin Laden and Biden was telling him not to do it. What a pair of numbnuts. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 13, 2025 07:32 AM (6ydKt) 116
