The Classical Saturday Coffee Break & Prayer Revival
[Too opinionated this morning? Deal with it.]
Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Hortonville) 1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice. And equally cruel with the trolls.
3) Gosh darn it. No, you can't run with sharp objects.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List
Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 9/9 – Pookysgirl asked for prayers as Pooky has a procedure to hollow out his prostate on 9/23. They are not sure of the long-term implications of his acute kidney injury, but his kidneys are recovering. God has worked miracles to keep Pooky with them in the past, as an answer to many, many prayers.
9/13 Update – Pookysgirl reported that Pooky is on the mend. His kidneys are recovering, he is sleeping better, he has been more confident interacting with the kids. Prayers of thanks! 9/11 – D sent an update for Susan, his wife, and her battle with cancer: Thank you, everyone, again for your prayers for Susan. Her cancer markers went down at the last Dr visit, but she is back to having abdominal pain that is making it hard to eat right. They are trying to get her weight up and thank God for the good days they do have. The really good news is that she is able to walk around again without the fear of falling over.
9/23 Update – The pain has started coming back, so they went to the hospital and found a cyst. They are trying to determine if it is infected. 9/13 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her daughter KTE to fully recover from the stomach bug that she has been suffering through. 9/18 – Taylor reported that WitchDoktor took his own life last week. 9/20 – Tonypete sent happy prayers for Will and Natalie, who were married on 9/19. May they continue to live God’s plan for themselves and remain as happy as they were on their wedding day. 9/20 – Accomack sent his thanks for the prayers for his wife. She was cleared of the parasites, but her liver has not returned to normal because of all the antibiotics. She has not been cleared to return to work, but she has insurance and union payouts, so this could go on for a while. 9/20 – Dash my lace wings asked for prayers for her mama. On 9/17, she fell and broke ribs. It was the second time in about 6 weeks, and much more painful than the last time.
9/27 Update – Thank you for your prayers. Her mother is recovering slowly. 9/20 – RedMindBlueState asked for prayers for the wife of a close friend. She is back in chemo for a recurrence of cancer. Please pray for her and her family. 9/21 – P asked for prayers for her brother, T, in New York. He already has stage 4 lung cancer. His car got totaled one night at 3 am, and when his wife was driving him to the insurance office the next day to report this, he felt so wobbly that she diverted to the ER, where they found out he’d had a stroke. 9/22 – C requested prayers for a friend whose mother passed away after years of dealing with dementia.
10/4 Update – The friend and his siblings are gathering at the family home today and the service will be in the next few days. The finality will probably hit him at that point. 9/27 – Retired Buckeye Cop wrote to thank the Horde for praying for his kid brother, “J”, after he lost his job back in June. A few weeks ago, J received two job offers. He accepted the job that offered $13K/year more pay and had a shorter commute. 9/27 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her husband’s swift recovery. His procedure was minor, but not quite as minor as expected. 9/27 – Sock Monkey requested prayers for his paster, who went to the ER with chest pains and slurred speech. The pastor is a young man, late 30s, and relatively fit. He has 3 young children with a 4th due in Oct. Please pray for his recovery and strength for his wife. He has been a tremendous blessing to the church. 9/27 – Joe Kidd posted a request for a friend, Bill, who has assumed sole responsibility for the care of his 90-year-old mother. (The original caretaker has fallen into alcoholism and was been removed from the premises. Please pray that she gains clarity and resolve to battle that demon.) And please pray that Bill’s path is made straight as he decides between taking early retirement or continuing to balance full time work with caretaking. Thank you and God bless. 9/27 – From about That Time asked for prayers for surgery on 10/1 to remove a growth. Please pray that it’s just a small disposable annoyance, as expected. 9/27 – Tonypete gave an update on the people from his church who were in an automobile accident earlier this year. Cheri is doing much better. While convalescing from the car crash, she fell and broke her hip, so she is recovering from that also. One of the passengers, Nick, had a heart episode during the wreck and died. He was his wife’s caregiver and she is now bereft. Prayers are still needed for all. 9/28 - Teresa in Fort Worth gave an update: It has been 1 year since Teresa started “down the cancer rabbit hole”. She sends her thanks for the prayers as they have buoyed her and her family through this year. She has been blessed to exceed the original 6-12 months predicted, by the grace of God – and the prayers of many people. Her next CT scan is in November, and the surgeon is pretty sure that her tumors will be small enough to remove/destroy.
10/7 Update – A recent CT scan shows lots of calcification (indicating tumor cell death), and the oncologist didn’t see any sign on the small tumors. The area where the largest tumor was now shows lots of calcification and the largest tumor has shrunk by almost 90%! Her next CT scan will be 11/3, and they assume they will be discussing surgery to remove the lobe of her liver, where the tumor is located. Timelines are uncertain, but she is hopeful that she will get to spend Christmas with her family at least one more time, if not more! Thanks to EVERYONE who has been praying on her behalf. 9/29 – toby928 asked for prayers for a brother named Joe, who is being crushed by grief. Joe’s wife is in a coma and will likely die in the next few days. 10/1 – Duke Lowell sent an update. He is home now, after 8 days in the hospital and every antibiotic known to man. He sent thanks for the prayers, and thanks to God for granting him another day in this glorious world He’s created. 10/2 – Bluebell passed along an update: grammie winger sends her gratitude for all the prayers – she feels they are working. On Oct 6 she will be starting a cancer treatment program because her doctors are “cautiously optimistic” that they can give her some more time. Monday she gets the port, followed by 6 hours of chemo infusion on Tuesday. The Rev is doing better because now he has some hope. Pleease pray for her as she starts this treatment program because in her words, “prayer changes things”. 10/4 – Legally Sufficient’s “Boss” will be undergoing intestinal surgery shortly. It looks scary so prayers for him and his medical team are appreciated. 10/4 – The Fabulous for safe travels as she travels to visit her oldest daughter who is about to be a mother of a baby girl. Prayers for the mom to be and her child. 10/4 – Skip requested prayers for his dad, who fell at church back in August, hitting his head. He fell again at home and has had back pain since then. He is going in for more tests on 10/8. 10/4 – Out Country is Screwed sent thanks for the prayers over the past year, during breast cancer treatments. The prayers have sustained, through surgery, chemo, and now through radiation. 10/4 – Random Dave would appreciate prayers from the Horde. He is one of the 5% of government workers that make the other 95% look bad, and he is trying to move to the private sector. He has found a good possibility to meet/exceed his pay and do an interesting job that is a good fit for his skills and interests. Praying that if it’s where God wants him, He will make it clear and the road smooth. 10/4 – DenverGregg asked for prayers for Ana, a lady from his church who is experiencing unemployment and mental illness, which tend to exacerbate each other. 10/4 – Longtime Lurker, Morgan, offers praise for financial blessings and petitions for safety in upcoming travel and coping with social isolation and loneliness, including finding a church home. Blessings upon Ace, the COBs, the other site works and all the blog lurkers and participants. 10/4 – Mrs. Leggy asked for prayers for a young girl who is suffering from leukemia and now has a horrible infection of the colon. Surgery may be required and because of her weakened condition, this could kill her. Thanks so very much! 10/6 – Inogame sent happy news about his wife and baby. The 20 week ultrasound was completed, and there is one baby girl with all the correct parts in the correct places. Mom and baby are doing well, though mom could use a nap or 20. 10/7 -CW is a long-time Horde member who could use prayers. His relationships with his son and his daughter have deteriorated recently, and his daughter has cut him off from the grandchildren. 10/8 – fourseasons asked for prayers for his/her brother-in-law, Chris, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had another scan last weekend and there is another tumor. He is losing his vision and has lost his ability to speak. He will have surgery on 10/10, and the surgeon said he will probably lose the ability to walk. The family is devastated. Chris is a wonderful man and has always been healthy. Stopped by my parents on Thursday, my dad has a brace to wear and has pain medication so is doing OK for now. Will need a outpatient procedure soon for a injection in spine to fill a void.

Willowed: And the latter's pump for the E0 seems always much is slower than for other grades -- 70 seconds to pump a gallon, opposed to about 10 for E10 regular.

The other is, the fuel station owner is using an older pump since E0 is not considered a high customer request.

Good morning, Horde.
My mother passed away Wednesday during my visit to the hospice. I came in, sat down next to her, and she took in a deep breath. After that she gently faded away. She was about a month and a half away from 100.
I miss her terribly but I'm glad she's free.

Morning again, caffeinated folken! It's actually 68 F. here in Da Swamp, canyabelieveit? I'm hoping it will be about the same tomorrow when I plan to work out first thing. I might even drive over to the 5 loops = 1 mile track not far away and test myself a little. The 6 loops = 1 mile walking path is only about 7 minutes' walk away, but I can never remember which pass I'm on with that one.

Good morning! After a second stint in the hospital, I’m now back home. I was recovering nicely, but something knocked me sideways. Severe dehydration put me in renal failure. Seems like I’m on the mend now. I’m tired of hospitals.

Last night we drove across the river to have dinner with friends at a local pizza place. Kind of a hole-in-the-wall in a small strip shopping center, but it turned out the food was quite good. Another pleasant surprise was that the parish or state had paved most of the avenue leading up to it -- that nice black asphalt that makes the Buick's tires run as quietly as a flying carpet. I exclaimed, "I love this road! It's seducing me! You seductive, slutty road!"

Was on my second Kindle Fire until a couple months ago. I mentioned to my Dad I was thinking of switching to a Samsung, so without asking he bought me this Galaxy Tab A9+.
No ads or walled Amazon garden, but it's very sluggish compared with the latest Kindle, for about the same price. Besides no Play Store on the Kindle I could always (until Kindle changes it next gen) side-load apps like Brave by just installing an apk file from apkpure.
The only way to get a Samsung tablet that performs as snappy as the Kindle costs like 500 bucks or more. I haven't researched other Android brands, any ideas on a sub $200 11" tablet with the same or better processors than the latest Kindle?
Also the speakers (4 of them!!) on this Samsung almost make the slow processors worth it. They wrap your head with stereo no matter how you hold the screen. So many trade-offs.

Eris I get the feeling will someday in not to distant future will find out what you experienced.
Watching parents go from self supporting to frail is hard to watch but we have to. My dad is 88 and just a few years ago thought 90s was a long way away.

My brother in law, Chris , is now recovering from surgery to remove brain tumors. He was talking last night which he hadn't been able to do before the surgery. Hopefully he will completely recover.

Forgiveness
Here's something I've been praying on and studying on the last few weeks. In the wake of Charlie Kirk's murder and his wife Erika's publicized expression of forgiveness, it's good to ask what is the Christian's obligation to forgive, in various scenarios?
God's forgiveness is vastly different from man's forgiveness, and is offered freely (but with conditions) for whosoever shall believe in Christ's redemptive suffering, death, and resurrection.
An individual such as I, having not been directly transgressed against, probably have no standing to offer forgiveness or seek retribution, other than collectively in the form of state-administered justice system. My forgiveness is irrelevant, except perhaps in my own heart.
Erika Kirk, as a Christian, had the option to offer forgiveness (but wasn't obligated to do so in the absence of repentance by the murderer) and chose the gracious option.
I'd be interested to hear some of your thoughts re: this subject.

Sitting in Waterbury/Stowe, VT. Planned this leaf looking trip back in June. We grew up in upstate NY and haven’t been north for autumn in decades. Apparently, we missed peak. Bummer. Still, the thing about visiting the northeast is the nostalgic homesickness we sense when we’re here. I’d move back in a heartbeat if the commies hadn’t seized control and ruined this beautiful land. I hear some people criticize residents for living in places the left has ruined. I don’t, but rather marvel at how do they survive here? Anyhow, we’ll drive around some today, visit a cousin along the way, look for a Friendly’s to get a Reece’s Pieces sundae, and find some maple sugar candy in a quaint shop. For the moment, I’ll sip my coffee and wait for my wife to wake up. I get up around 5 am…she doesn’t.

Prayers said for all who need them. The coffee is perked. We had the first real autumn weather this week: cool nights, low humidity, gentle breezes, highs below 70 degrees. The windows are always open for a change. I woke up to birds singing in the trees the last two days. Coffee and tea taste better with this weather. Such a nice change from the humid furnace we had this summer.
This is the kind of weather that invites you to get outside and do something constructive. Fortunately, I have the strength of will to resist this and play with hobbies in my recliner.

Good morning and prayers up for all. Reading the request list, I'm always amazed at the deep troubles in the group, yet it always seems to remain joyful and supporting. I know I've found strength here- for one, it makes my problems (that I try not to dwell on) seem relatively insignificant. One of the things on my daily list of things to do is "maintain frame- be joyful, steadfast, and grateful." I watched "Falling Down" yesterday (at the Critical Drinker's recommendation). Kind of hit home regarding the path I could have taken after losing wife, job, etc. But the lesson is in Duvall's character versus Douglas's. Don't dwell in the dark, don't live in fear, love does not equal possession, that's dependency. Watch it if you haven't.

My grandmother was just a teenager when she had Mom and Mom was always amazed at how well she looked after her, teaching her manners and making sure she ate right, trying to make a pleasant home even during the Depression. They were very close too, as we were.

The mom of a life long friend of mine lived to 107. Genetics are an amazing thing. My friend is 78, as am I, and hopes she lives a long life as well. Never can tell. Her dad died at the age of 48 when my friend was 7 years old. Hopefully, she takes after her mom. Her sisters all lived into their early 90's.

39- Dr. Muldoon- I focus on forgiveness a lot. When I recite the Lord's prayer, I try to be mindful of each statement within it. "Forgive us as we forgive." I remind myself I am not without sin, and, in truth, I cannot be sinned against- only God. I want to be forgiven, so I understand my duty. When I catch myself in bitterness, blame, pain, I try to remember all that I've done wrong. We often find it easy to forgive or rationalize our own bad behavior, but don't have much grace for others, I try, hard and mindfully to give that same grace. If I catch myself arguing with "ghosts" I ask myself- "to what purpose?" then I try to replace the thought with, "I'm sorry for however I hurt you (her) and wish you the best." I find if I discipline myself to actually do this, to really control my thoughts and mean it- I do.

My mother passed away Wednesday during my visit to the hospice. I came in, sat down next to her, and she took in a deep breath. After that she gently faded away. She was about a month and a half away from 100.

Prayers up from here, so sorry for your loss Eris. She had a good long run. As did my Dad when he passed earlier this year one month short of 89.
We were lucky to have them around so long but there is still a great empty spot in my heart that will take a long time to heal.

But when I held her hand, for one clear moment she realized I was there, her first born, and was comforted. That remains a blessed memory and I hope it will be for you.

Three guys went out for lunch to celebrate one of their birthdays in Woodstock NY about 12m from me. They showed up at the restaurant in a black SUV. The restaurant thought they were ICE and put out a warning. Protesters and police showed up and the restaurant closed for the day. The police interviewed the guys and lo and behold they were just celebrating a birthday. My county has descended into this kind of lunacy

A few months ago I asked for prayer for my oldest. He had pancreatic cancer. He's been through 3 months of chemo that significantly shrank the cancer. This week he had surgery to remove the remaining cancer, they also removed his spleen. So far things look good.

My dad was about 77 yrs old when we met a young lady and her companion. Young lady told dad she liked his bib overalls and asked how old he was. He told her. She smiled and said she herself was 104 yrs old. The oldest person I ever met basically told my 77 yr old father that he was a cute kid.

I find the modern way of job searching odd. He has been interviewed by AI several times. I suppose the AI goes through the list of questions and you either get them or not, but it's not as if the AI can say to itself, "I think I could work with this guy"

My recent grad daughter found that while she had no job, she was practically a non-entity for firms, so finding a spot to work, even if PT and/or wildly out of the field (b/c the field may be overstuffed by 10 year degreed feds in science - ALL the Bio fields especially are just overwhelmed right now b/c of the government RIFs, so firms have their pick), but that is professional or license conferring helped. Once in that job for 2 months, it's like the world started opening up to her. She's still not in a lab sciences field, but for now, she's settled in and happy, and will look again next summer...or won't if she decides she likes this current field more than expected...

109- I can't read her heart, or measure her thoughts. I'm told of (but don't look at) her Tik Tok videos wherein I'm portrayed as, essentially, history's greatest monster. Somehow, after 34 years of marriage, I "tricked" her into it, I stole her youth, etc. She asked for no contact, yet harasses me on FB with fake accounts, attacks and accusations. I don't understand, but have found seeking understanding, closure, and some measure of reconciliation are foreclosed. Somehow, she's decided I'm everything that went wrong in her life, and I know I can't logic her out of a position she emotioned herself into. So, I can't base my forgiveness on her state of mind. Holding on to those things is like choosing to hold on to a hot coal- it's just going to burn my hand, not have an effect on her. So, for my own peace, it's better to let it go, just forgive and move on, regardless of her state of mind.

One of the things on my daily list of things to do is "maintain frame- be joyful, steadfast, and grateful." I watched "Falling Down" yesterday (at the Critical Drinker's recommendation). Kind of hit home regarding the path I could have taken after losing wife, job, etc. But the lesson is in Duvall's character versus Douglas's. Don't dwell in the dark, don't live in fear, love does not equal possession, that's dependency. Watch it if you haven't.

One guy looked like he was ready to jump off the roof and run. I got a good laugh out of it.

Between the feds firing instead of hiring, and doing a ton of that at NIH, CDC, FDA, Dept of Ag, Dept of Interior, etc, you have 10s of thousands of those degreed folks floating around PLUS no one being hired at fed gov (a huge former hiring place for a lot of life science folks). A new college grad, with the stigma employers already attach to them, really can't compete for entry level jobs with those with Masters and PHDs and 10 years of experience.
If you look at some of the underemployed fields based on major (aka working jobs that only needed HS degree vs their actual college degree), all the bio sciences are represented this year.
If I had advice, I'd have him search into fields illegals/H1-Bs previously did that now he can backfill...it will be a crappy pay, sh&tty field, but he'll be working and then more jumpable...

One place I've found that relied on H1-Bs and illegals and are now hiring are our hospitals...one job there, Clinical Technicians get trained from the ground up here and are being sought in my area and I imagine many others...
Not the best pay, but most are FT with benefits, and you start at level 1 and can advance (or our hospitals have training programs that then open up that can transfer you into lab work, albeit not plant lab work)...
And it's good resume build, and eventual good references if it goes well...

One final thought, again referencing Falling Down. It's about control versus gratitude. In the scene where he's watching the birthday video, his little girl, Adele, cries and is frightened by his gift- a rocking horse. He wants a picture, but she screams in fear. Instead of giving grace, he reacts with attempts at control and demands obedience, even joy. He wants her to be happy, but she isn't, and he takes it personally. I find myself, sometimes wanting too. I want, I demand, more. Yet, when I consider what I've been given, it seems ungrateful and selfish to demand more. I've got the love of my family and friends, a good job, the best health of my life. Yet, I find myself sometimes dwelling on what I don't have and want. It's like opening a hundred beautiful presents on Christmas, yet demanding more (I want this!) Almost as if I've Veruca Salt, demanding more and more, and it's never enough. (Wow, that's two great movie references). Really this just boils down to "count your blessings." God's gifts are more than sufficient, they are abundant. But it's not the gifts, it's the Giver.

I took my Grandma in to get her state issued D at 100. The lady noticed her age and was amazed she was that old, Grandma was still pretty spry. Grandma just smiled and kinda shrugged...I don't know where the time went.
It was just hysterical. She lived a few more yrs, dying just short of her 104th birthday. RIP Grandma.

Fenelon, when I dropped out of college for the last time I had picked up some botany, and that and my Spanish got me a position at a nursery. If your son has practical abilities like grafting or cell culture to go along with that he will find a position doing grafting and propagation. From his abilities and knowledge he has already he may have a foot up. If it is an area he is interested in, he should also get a ag chemical applicator certification as well.
The grafting crews at the nursery I worked at were all Central American, and it was a continual struggle to find workers who had authentic papers.
Nurserymen have organizations that list membership, and there is generally a state certified nurseries list.
Nurseries for ornamentals are dependent on home building, but forestry nurseries are not so much.

A bud of mine says he was at the VA and they decided from his body build he had to be tested for Fatty Liver Disease - and the blood test came back negative, so they decided to do a scan.

Doing as well as can be expected. Stent was placed in the iliac artery yesterday. Said no stairs or driving for a several days. LOL. I live in a quad level and no way staying on one floor.
Monday I go in for MRI. When CT scan found clogged artery they also saw some nodules on adrenal glands. Will learn more about what that entails next week.

My 18 month old Red Heeler has taken to sleeping part of the night on my M-I-L's bed. Mom likes the pup's company.

Since my Mom passed away on October 1, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on just much it must have meant for her to see me, my wife and son one last time. it was a long trip, from Idaho to Georgia, but so worth it. She died just a few days after we were there.
I miss her, but she is with Dad and my sister now. She was ready to go. I believe the Lord told me to go and see her.

It takes a big commitment in time and money to make a resource into a reserve.

My mother passed away Wednesday during my visit to the hospice. I came in, sat down next to her, and she took in a deep breath. After that she gently faded away. She was about a month and a half away from 100.
I miss her terribly but I'm glad she's free.

One of the kiddos used to bring a blanket in and lay on the floor to watch TV.
The Late Great Stormy would join him there and they'd sometimes fall asleep together there,
which was fine.

Stormy used to sleep beside our bed when she was younger but as she approached 29, she came to prefer her crate. Maybe it was like being in secure cave for her or something like that.

I loved my dogs but am mildly allergic (seriously allergic to cats) so they were never allowed on furniture or beds. They had the run of the entire basement and 4 acres of land and pond. Never leashed. Had 4 litters of puppies and made many people happy. Dogs were happy, healthy and lived to be 15 and 16 years old.

Remember, Schumer is not the center of gravity, it is Dem senators who don't live in deep blue states. Only a handful need to peel away for this thing to end, and the longer it goes on, the more blame they will get for the jobs eliminated.
Schumer I'm sure is saying he'll now hold those jobs hostage as well, but that's just doubling down on failure. Those will never make it past the House and eventually reconciliation (which bypasses the filibuster) will happen.
In fact, I think they could have worked that but chose not to for exactly this reason. Schumer walked right into the trap.

My daughter number one and I were able to see my mom before she passed. I had a few hours alone with her which was very meaningful. I miss her still, nearly 3 years later. She’s with my brother now. My dad is in his nineties and plugging away.

Not long ago a Clinton-era ban on logging roads was repealed. It was a typical 11th hour job, and of course Dubya just sat on his ass and did nothing.
That change will of course bring in new lumber and also mitigate forest fire danger and one can only wonder why it took this long to fix.

The whole movement is a fascinating study in self-loathing. The people advocating for the "Indigenous" know literally nothing about it. It's all wishcasting and fantasy and they are equally ignorant of their own culture.
At its core it is pure nihilism, a desire to tear down with no idea of what is going to come after, only a vague notion that they will somehow feel better and be better off.
Nothing is more dangerous to a nation than prolonged prosperity. That stretch from 1948 to 1968 has had a really horrific hangover.

Democrats seem to be laboring under the misapprehension that everyday American workers give a flying fuck at a rolling donut about the job losses of government workers who've been bleeding them dry every day since they first put on their shoes and showed up to a job.
Nobody likes them. Nobody trusts them. Everyone resents them for holding them at gunpoint for a third or more of their paychecks, and giving them jack shit in return except for a dysfunctional regime with third world levels of corruption.

Johnson was pissed that Schumer was going to refuse any votes until after the next "No Kings" protest. I think that is the reason, they are trying to gin up some serious disorder and blame it on Trump.
And if not just disorder, then maybe some pretext for something else

I'm guessing this "protest" will be a Black Block operation with the hope of getting a Kent State response that the Dims can ride into next year as well as November. And use it to get more of their demands.
Further, I expect the day time portion of this "protest" will be all peaceful for the MSM to broadcast and help project a false image/propaganda,
until the "mostly peaceful" part of the program starts after dark.
I just hope Trump's people have gamed this out properly.
