Those stupid "Thin Oreos". What an, absolute, scam those are. Here's the board room marketing meeting in short: Marketing: "No...you're still not getting it. We make them thin. Same circumference, but thin. People are stupid. A lot of our customers are just north of a lump of mud. They see the word "thin" or "slim" and think after two weeks of eating these Thin Oreos that the pounds will just melt off. But, they'll eat the whole package like normal." Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. Eastern Ukraine, including Kiev, has been hit hard with drone and missile attacks over the last few days. Lots of blackouts and loss of water, central heating plants down too. It's almost as if the Russians want to run everyone out of eastern Ukraine so they can take it over. 2. On the ground, things are looking grim for the Ukrainians. Too much front line and too few bodies to hold it. Two months ago the Russians punched a 10 mile salient into Ukrainian territory. The Ukrainians threw everything they had at it, trying to collapse it. After a tough few weeks, the Russians are pushing back and the salient is growing. I remember liking the Pacer I rented back around 76. The giant greenhouse with windows that come way down almost to your armrest, it was an unusual machine. Felt wide, too, for it's size. The Pacer wagons were very utilitarian. To keep the AMC theme, a 304 or even a 401 AMC motor, please.
The Pacer was designed to use a rotary engine that AMC was going to buy from GM. GM stopped developing it as it wasn't that economical and the gas crisis stopped the program. AMC had to put their existing sixes into it, initially. Posted by: Pacing Myself at October 10, 2025 10:35 PM (oftw2) 133

We don't enforce clothing standards at my range, AFAIK, need to review the SOP again, but pretty sure. It's rare that people aren't appropriately dressed.
It being San Diego, there are some who show up in sandals. But shooting and surfing are hobbies not rarely combined here. One of my RSO crew is a surfer, such a long-time fixture at a particular beach that his name is on the old timer's monument there. Surprised today when half the hockey locker room started talking about surfing - and not here, but in Peru and NZ. So hockey and surfing, also a thing. I know one of the indelible scars of my teenage-hood was hockey practice in the morning, followed by body surfing after, usually this time of year. Brutal. Amazing what humans can endure. Any of you early-rising Moon watchers take note. This morning and tomorrow will be about the highest you'll ever see the Moon in the sky. The Moon is a harsh orbital mistress -- all sorts of complex precessions and stuff going on. 2025, around March, was a major lunistice (standstill), which means the Moon's orbital plane is the most inclined it can be to the earth's equator. And right now, things are aligned so that it's about at max declination near enough to the full Moon, so you have a very bright Moon as high in the sky as it can ever be. The "lunar tropic" is at 28.7 degrees latitude now, which is about at Orlando. The Moon will directly overhead in Orlando. This means in Miami, the Moon will be *north* at transit, not south. For me here at 34.7N, it will be over 83 degrees high. This will not happen again for 18.6 years. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at October 10, 2025 11:29 PM (w6EFb) 256

Things (the Prop 50 vote) ire heating up here in CA. FOr the past 2 or so weeks, Gov. Got Nuthin has been running an ad whining about how we need Prop 50 (here in CA) to restore the redistricting power to the politicians, so everyone in the US is assured of fair elections. Naturally, everyone sees the problems with GN's logic. Today, some-(Tom Steyer)-one has started running a rather shrill ad, showing Trump (mainly from the back, sometimes only parts) throwing food at a TV running a pro-Prop 50 ad. Isn't Steyer the clown who ran neck-and-neck with fellow clown Deval Patrick? They both beat Kammie in the primary, but so what? Steyer lost. Perhaps we can get Ahnold (already anti-Prop 50) to do a Terminator commercial, maybe catching Steyer and Patrick about to grab the $300million at stake, and run them off. I would build a dozen or so really nice houses for my friends on the property, build a drag strip so we can goof off with vintage muscle cars, OR send self driving EV cars down it while we shoot at them with machine guns, or hang out in the community resort built to our specifications. After that, retire for the night to an epic private live music venue that looks like a castle inside where I can hang with my musician friends and jam, drink copious booze, and pretty much act like reckless fucking assholes. That would be our job. With a billion dollars the interest alone on money like that is enough be a serious reckless asshole year after year. So thats what I would do, build planet asshole.

"I guess you couldn't eat a truck if you were on the Russian Front, but you could grill a horse, if you had"
Lately I've gotten a kick out of stressing Grok with bizarre questions. Keeps it agile Re horse consumption. Overall Eastern Front: Estimates suggest 500,000–1 million German horses perished between 1941 and 1945, based on replacement needs and captured animals Stalingrad: The 6th Army entered with ~10,000–17,000 horses; most were eaten by troops over the 200+ day siege to stave off famine. Broader retreats (e.g., 1943–1945): "Tens of thousands" of horses were slaughtered for meat across the front, per wartime accounts. Posted by: Fenrisulven at October 11, 2025 12:15 AM (9H22g) 301
The Eastern Front
Horses died at a rate of ~10,000–20,000 per month in harsh seasons (winter/mud). Assuming 60–80% of non-combat losses (e.g., starvation/exhaustion) led to consumption (based on memoirs and Soviet reports of systematic slaughter), this yields:1941–1942: ~150,000 eaten Estimated Total: 300,000–500,000 horses eaten by German troops on the Eastern Front. This is a conservative range; higher figures (up to 750,000) are possible if including partial consumption or indirect use (e.g., hides for boots) Posted by: Fenrisulven at October 11, 2025 12:19 AM (9H22g) 302

Orcas have been repeatedly ramming, biting, and damaging the rudders of sailboats in waters off the Iberian Peninsula, leading to several sinkings and rescue operations. While sailors call these events "attacks," scientists suggest the behavior, unique to this specific orca pod since 2020, may be a form of social learning, playfulness, or an imitation of a specific individual. Sailors are advised to stay informed about orca sightings, avoid the area during peak months, and have a plan for rudder damage and potential sinking.
Details of the Orca Behavior Targeted Area: The behavior is concentrated in the Strait of Gibraltar and waters off the coasts of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Primary Target: Orcas focus their activity on the rudder of slow-moving, medium-sized sailboats. Origin: The behavior is believed to have originated with a single orca and then spread to three different groups, or "pods," of orcas. Escalation: The incidents have become more frequent and intense, with hundreds of interactions recorded and several sailboats sunk. >>>Pakistan has reportedly proposed allowing the United States to build and operate a $1.2 billion commercial deep-water port at Pasni in Balochistan, primarily to export critical minerals like copper and rare earth elements, with the offer reportedly presented to US officials following a meeting between Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and former[?] US President Donald Trump in September 2025.
The strategic location of Pasni, situated just 70 miles from China's Gwadar Port and 100 miles from Iran’s Chabahar Port, has raised significant geopolitical concerns, particularly for India, which views the potential US presence as a direct challenge to its strategic interests in the Arabian Sea. _Brave AI Continued: https://tinyurl.com/rsedeht4 Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at October 11, 2025 01:39 AM (KKMuu) 354

The 1935 Chevrolet Suburban is regarded as the very first SUV in history while the Willys Jeep Station Wagon was the first SUV to feature Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) option in 1949. However, the 1984 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) is credited as the first SUV in the modern understanding of compact size SUVs
SUV history from suvradar.com. If we trust them. Posted by: Piper at October 10, 2025 10:26 PM (pZEOD) '35 Suburban was a depot hack. That's not a slur; it's a term of art, meaning a multi-passenger station wagon often used by hotel and resorts to pick up guests and their luggage at the railway station, In my book, 4-wheel drive is a defining feature of and SUV. I am wondering when Toyota 4Runner and Nissan Pathfinder first came out. Also compact SUV's, and built on truck frames, another defining feature. Been saying that for a long time. I'd pair that Critical Thinking course with Logic. One of the hardest courses I ever took in college was Symbolic Logic. An after thought would be to have a course on propaganda, what it is and how it works. Show Leni Riefenstahl, Al Gore, MSNBC/CNN and such to teach how one can be manipulated into believing bullshit. Late to the thread and will go to bed presently: it bothered me that there were two pictures of the “lucky” babysitter. And that in one of them she has an unnatural number of fingers. Didn’t notice did you? Tracing the image back, it looks like someone used AI to reproduce a similar meme from 2020. That one had two different shots of the babysitter, who was black. Looks like the prompt was something along the lines of show a white girl bragging about getting a car for her birthday from the family she babysits for based on this 2020 photo. As for why the babysitter gets a new car for her 18th birthday, I tend to agree with the cynical guesses on this blog. The original girl was from a “protected” class, thus the need for the inexpert AI redo.

The doggone Alberta Welcome Center in Milk River, Alberta is closed, and has a "For Sale" sign on it. I am all for government economies, but that is kind of ridiculous. A tourist information station, with public washrooms, a park with picnic tables, and some nice life-size dinosaur sculptures. And it appears the little picnic site at the Carmangay Teepee rings site has suffered the same fate. Un-maintained, and the restroom is a disgusting mess. Come on, people! This is the public face of the Alberta government, and may be the only thing the average tourist sees.

Babysitting turned out to be a losing game for me. As often as not, I'd be paid less than the agreed-upon sum or end up working later than planned.
Still, it was a little bit of money. I stopped completely after one fateful weekend, 'sitting for my then-bf's brother: he had a 3yr old, a 2yr old, and a 6month old. Supposed to be "out for dinner and a movie" with his wife on a Friday night. They left at 4pm. "We'll be back by 10", he said. "Kids' dinner is in the fridge, just heat it up." Max Blumenthal@MaxBlumenthal
The Nobel Committee has decided to make the case for Trump’s war on Venezuela, giving its “Peace Prize” to Maria Corina Machado, a US govt-funded regime change activist who’s helped lead failed military coups, violent street riots, and has likely promised her country’s oil and mineral wealth to a consortium of MAGA aligned billionaires in exchange for financing her political arsonism. This icon of peace has even appealed to Benjamin Netanyahu to help her lead a military invasion of Venezuela. Maria Corina Machado is a marionette for Marco Rubio, a creation of the CIA-sponsored Gusano Industrial Complex that has brought violent terror and siege to any Latin American country defying the Washington Consensus of privatization and austerity, and a would-be Pinochet in a skirt... ------ Huh. When I recently referred to him as "the repulsive Max Blumenthal" I was reliably informed here by a prectibaly paranoid Moron that I only found him repulsive because I have been brainwashed by Netanyahu, and I want to shut down free speech for Netanyahu, and presumably say whatever I say for Netanyahu. He could buy the whole site! A little work, and the tourist center, a nice modern building, could be made into a ranch house. Looks like maybe 3-4 acres of land, well treed. Fronts on a frontage road, not right on the highway. And the Milk River is right there. Throw in a canoe, and paddle down to New Orleans. It really is in the Missouri River watershed.
