Saturday Night Jokes and Other Funnies

On the chest of a barmaid in Vail
Was tattooed the prices of ale,
And on her behind,
For the sake of the blind,
Was the same information in Braille.

***

An atheist is hiking in the woods when suddenly a huge bear pops out from behind a bush.

Right as the bear is about to attack, time freezes and god appears.

God says, "You have spent your whole life as an atheist. But if you finally believe in me and become a Christian I will stop the bear from eating you."

The man says, "That's really nice of you, but I don't really believe in a higher power."

God responds, "All you have to do is believe your eyes and accept me in your heart."

After thinking for a moment, the man says "That's just to hard for me to do. I mean science has already answered how we came about through evolution. Not only that, but with all the bad things happening in the world right now, it's just too difficult to believe that there is a god. I'm sorry but I just can't do it."

God says, "Are you sure? I will give you one more opportunity to believe in me."

The man says with confidence, "As I said, no thanks."

God says "OK, you have made your choice..."

The man has a thought. "Wait... How about you make the bear a Christian instead? And then he will have morals."

God responds, "Very well."

After God left, time restarted. The bear suddenly stopped and the man started to believe that his plan to save himself had worked.

The bear knelt down and said "Thank you God for this meal I am about to receive."

Club ONT White Lies

Let's hear the white lies of the horde.

Here is the setup: Plain white T-shirt, black Sharpie, and one harmless little lie scrawled across the front. What do you have, Horde?

Collage 10-11.jpg

Spitballing:
The Horde: I am great at math.
AOC: I won't make a TikTok about you. I don't want to date you.
The Disco: I hate Rush.
JackStraw: I don't like your boat.
The Dino: I can reach that.
Lurkers: I am really an extrovert.
The Doggo: I love my vet appointments.
The Cobs: I cannot time travel.

Club ONT CEO Fun

Herb Kelleher was a treasure. The story goes: in the '90s, Herb and 10-15 of his Southwest Airlines employees (think attractive flight attendants) were in line, trying to get into the Downside Risk bar in Old Town Scottsdale. Tired of waiting, Herb asked the doorman to call the manager or owner. When the owner arrived, Herb said, "Hey, I'm Herb Kelleher from Southwest Airlines, and we've got a bunch of us who want to come in and have some fun."

The owner replied, "Herb, I love your airline. The next time I don't have to stand in line to board one of your planes is the next time you don't have to stand in line to get into my bar."

Herb laughed his ass off, got back in line, and waited his turn.

Amusing Herb reading

Here are some of the things Kelleher was known for during his years at Southwest:

- imitating Corporal Klinger from the television show M*A*S*H by showing up at one of the company's hangars on Halloween dressed in drag with a feathered boa.

- appearing in print ads as Elvis Presley.

- claiming his two greatest achievements were a talent for projectile vomiting and never having had a serious venereal disease.

- staying at a bar with a mechanic until four in the morning to find out what is going on. And then fixing whatever is wrong.

But my favorite story is when Kelleher, age 61 at the time, settled a trademark dispute with an arm-wrestling competition.

Hit the link to see his arm wrestling.

7 Hello.

Happy to relate that after three days down, my vanity website MindfulWebworks.com is back up. Was a bit bummed that the site was down, what with nearly thirty years of webworks, over 2000 posts — at least a few of which aren't too bad IMHO.

I consulted Grok about the problem, and it found the answer and walked me through what turned out to be a relatively simple fix, but one which I might never have figured out on my own. Amazing. When I let Grok know it had fixed the problem, it said, "Awesome, glad to hear mindfulwebworks.com is back up!" Offered to help me update the content management system, too, which is long overdue. I wonder how many zots of electricity it took. Don't care. Nice piece of software!

Feeling much less stressed.

41 Joemarine, that's what I've read about Dolly.

Supposedly when she was working on Little Whorehouse In Texas, or some such forgettable flick, she suddenly took a week off from shooting, because her dog died.

The director was furious about it. When Dolly finally returned, she forced the director to *apologize to her,* for not being more understanding.

I love Dolly, but would hope that by now, she realizes she also inconvenienced, and kind of hurt, a lot of ordinary working people, behaving like that.

I tend to think "Crocodile Rock" either instigated the rush to '50s nostalgia that began in the early '70s, or created momentum for the existing wave. Remember, 1957 was only 15 years back from 1972 when CR came out. There had been a fad for the Thirties for a while in the first half of the '70s -- TV series Banyon, movie Chinatown -- but then along came The Fifties, maybe heightened by the success of JHappy Days on TV, and the Thirties faded.

Measures rain as it falls, transmits data to base station via 900Mhz band. When there's a small leak into the electronics area that causes corrosion, that's a problem. When the electricity flows through the corrosion points and not through it's intended paths, that's a bigger problem.

I leave you with this thought: Despite all the good stuff on Top 40 radio in the '70s, Melanie's "Brand New Key" and Elton John's "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" were annoying. From what I understood of the lyrics, which repeat endlessly, I still think Elton was addressing someone named "Sugar Bear." Or maybe it was "Booger Share," though I think that less than likely.

I recall the story behind the song was something about Elton planning to get married (?), and a friend talked him out of it? Or maybe that was just a story from his publicist. Anyway, the few lyrics the song had seemed to be on an endless loop -- nothing as exciting as "Crocodile Rock" had been or as haunting as "Rocket Man."

194 New goal to someday make the comments of a Saturday night. This seems next as I have been FIRST at least twice in the last year.

One of my nursing skool classmates sent me photos of a wild Memorial Day camping trip from 1976. A rite of passage for college kids here. Two photos of me, looking like a wasted supermodel in a guy's beach chair and wearing his hat. He was not my boyfriend, as I had many friends that were male. Some with girlfriends there, too. They are close ups and the profile (I am laughing in both) I can perhaps frame and put in our gallery. The one where I'm looking at her our sons will say, "Mom, were you wasted?" Indeed I was.

To the point I don't remember how I got there or meals. I don't remember where I camped or a tent except one night. I also know I was not with a guy, which was a pity. One photo near the reservoir of a herd of single guys I didn't know. I asked why she didn't tell me about them? There was a keg, too. Bummer! Groups morphed together.

The 3 photos featuring me I was having a blast and laughing. So blasted I have amnesia. I swam a lot and lived.

Met the college guy I married four months later, so my pretend Woodstock daze came to an end.

I'd led such a sheltered life that when the Doobie Brothers burst on the scene, I had no idea what that referred to and thought the name was a play on the "Do-Bee and Don't-Bee" routine on Romper Room.

If you're going to bareboat in the Caribbean, and you should, you need more wind. You don't want your charter to be your first time. Squalls happen there.

Look for wind. Your boat was built for it. You'll do great. And you'll understand you are a much better sailor than you thought you were.

Ed the homo Koch got elected after Beame and is credited for salvaging (not saving, my words) NYC. Ed Koch was a good mayor in-so-far he wasn't incompetent. Koch was competent enough to keep NYC from going full Shithole.

But Beame shouldn't get all the blame -- the mayor before Beame was in for 2 terms. This guy, Lindsay, was a real piece of shit. A fake Republican to start with, then switched parties to Democrat in 1971. And that's when NYC was going full-steam off the cliff.

Only been to the Gorge once but I remember it. Beautiful place.

We got so spoiled by the music in that time we thought it would never end.

Multiple diplomats from the Qatari delegation traveling with the Qatari Prime Minister have been killed in a car accident in Egypt after their vehicle overturned.

They had been in the country for the Gaza peace talks.

15 or so years ago. Had to be in San Francisco for a meeting one week and Seattle the next so I rented a car and drove over the weekend. Spent a night in Portland and drove around before heading north. Beautiful country.

Yes, it's nice to not be completely alone. He's in another room, and I'm letting him have peace & quiet. He's not "cuddly" like my previous pets. More like a barn-cat that's smart enough to come in out of the rain. LOL

He only spends time indoors when weather is bad. Has been "our" cat for 3 or 4 years now. He was hubby's *Little Buddy*-- would jump up on bed with him & just soak up the rubbys while hubs watched tv. For hours!

Me? I'm the food-dispenser. But Cat lets me give him some rubbys & skritches now, when we're outside together. Indoors, he just wants to be left alone while he sleeps.

355 50 I did not know that thing about "Dr" but then shouldn't it have an apostrophe or something to indicate the elision?
- - - - - - -
No, "Dr" is pronounced "Durrr" (although some argue that it is a contraction of the German "Der" (meaning "the") e.g. "Dr So-n-So" translates to "The So-n-So")
YMMV ;-)

A Modern-Day John Q

When doctors in Texas declared his son brain-dead and prepared to pull the plug, George Pickering II refused to let go.
Desperate, he drew a gun and locked down the ICU demanding just one thing: time.

For hours, the standoff dragged on. Then, in the stillness, his son squeezed his father’s hand. Twice.

In that instant, George’s defiance was vindicated. His son was alive.

George went to prison for nearly a year.
But his son recovered, completely.
And he calls his father one word the system never would: hero.
