The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Put those blinders on! Mustn't see the explosive issue that threatens the survival of the French state! You know, the French state that has cradle-to-grave welfare, and 10% of their population that games that system? Oh, they also are responsible for a huge amount of crime, and no-go zones, and vicious anti-Semitic violence, not to mention a savage fixation on a revolutionary ideology that will destroy French culture and bring down the Fifth Republic!

You know...the Amish!

France's government collapses again: What could happen next?

None of the options now look appealing for Macron, from his perspective at least. And for France, the road ahead promises more of the political uncertainty that is eroding investor confidence in the European Union’s second-largest economy and is frustrating efforts to rein in France’s damaging state deficit and debts.

Domestic turmoil also risks diverting Macron’s focus from pressing international issues — wars in Gaza and Ukraine, security threats from Russia, and the muscular use of American power by U.S. President Donald Trump, to name just a few.

The globalist fixation on Ukraine and Gaza, dutifully parroted by a compliant and curiously incurious media, allows people like Macron to ignore the existential issues plaguing France. Muslim immigration. Muslim crime. Muslim political power pushing France toward an Islamic theocracy.

Gaza is a wonderful tool to placate the restive Muslims by showing them France's Jew-hating bona fides...and feeding the crocodile for a bit longer. And Ukraine diverts attention, in spite of the ridiculousness of any sort of Russian threat to France. Kiev to Paris is more than 1,200 miles. Are Russian armored columns going to rampage across central Europe and capture Paris?

France's political structure is flawed, and it has been in chaos for a very long time. de Gaulle was able to hold it together, and he was still reviled by huge numbers of Frenchmen. The president has a huge amount of power, which is why Macron can hold on in spite of an approval rating under 20%. He's not going anywhere until the next national election in 2027, but don't think anything earthshaking will come then...they have already disqualified Marine Le Pen!

France has a massive welfare state that is crumbling in large part because of immigration. It has a sclerotic and oppressive regulatory state that stifles innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. It has a voting population that is hell-bent on protecting its pensions and retirement, at the expense of everything around them.

And Macron's response to all of this has been to pander to the globalists and the Islamists in his midst, all in service of his fanatical desire to retain power.

Sound familiar? He is a more competent and less senile Joe Biden! Or Hillary Clinton!

France will not recover unless the people of France reject the status quo and embrace change the way America, Italy, Japan, and a few other countries have. And that will probably not happen!

It does seem to help a number of folks to know that people are praying for them. It is so important.

It always throws me for a loop when someone mentions praying for me. It isn't that I don't appreciate it - I do, very much - it's just something so out of my cynical worldview that sometimes I need to be dope-slapped with a reminder such as that.

The power of propaganda on the masses is one of the intel communities most potent weapons. Not just ours although they take a leading position but intel communities around the world. Many people, in some cases most people, can be convinced to go along with a position if they are bombarded with enough propaganda.

Repealing the Smith Mundt Act is one of the most underreported stories of the last couple of decades. It was done for one reason, to allow the deep state to flood the US with government propaganda. It needs to be reversed and the entire worldwide propaganda network needs to be exposed.

I found out a couple years ago that Marx, while being more historically significant afterwards, is actually less significant in the flow of things.

His writings on revolution were absorbed by the un-repentant Jacobins in France. Such that Marx's writings contributed to the 1870s retry at revolution.

Marx just pretty much provided a timeline and some more narrative to flesh out the original Rousseau-ian context.

I've put it so: Rousseau is the main event, and Marx is a wave rider.

75 69 ‘ France's political structure is flawed’

I’ve never felt that their political structure is so much flawed as the culture is.
The French people are conditioned to want a revolution every generation or so. Since 1789.
They don’t consider any regime as legitimate unless it’s the result of a revolution.

77 MADISON — The citizenship status of all Wisconsin voters must be verified before the next statewide election in February, a Waukesha County judge has ordered. The ruling from Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Maxwell requires the Wisconsin Elections Commission to review the state's voter rolls over the next five months to determine whether anyone who is not a U.S. citizen is registered to vote.

79 Le Pen's National Rally is mainstream left wing. They have no hope of escaping the fiscal trap they are in.

FWIW, here's the AI take on National Front:

No, Marine Le Pen's National Rally (RN) is not a left-wing party; it is widely classified as far-right
. It is a nationalist and right-wing populist party that has historically been accused of xenophobia and antisemitism.
Key aspects of the National Rally's political positioning include:

Nationalist and anti-immigration stance: The party's platform is built on French nationalism and advocates for significant cuts to legal immigration, stricter controls on illegal immigration, and the protection of French identity.
Right-wing populism: While it has adopted some economically left-leaning policies to attract working-class voters, the party's core ideology and overall political position are on the far right.

Rousseau wrote better than his past rivals did. But the radicalism was there from the time of the Gutenberg Bible--whether it was the urban Anabaptists in Germany, their cousins the Levelers in England, etc. Roman Catholicism followed Paul in focusing not on challenging current governmental regimes but instead perfecting oneself for heaven. Protestantism, for whatever its virtues, upended that by radicalizing the language of rights due to opposition to rulers that forbid its practice. From there, it is a simple step to go toward viewing all leaders in society as potentially suspect while at the same time viewing people, as Locke did, as basically good. So the virtuous people overturning the rascals in the ancien regime by obliterating them from history was ok because the people's collective General Will wanted new magistrates and a new regime.

I would agree. The original parliamentary systems were designed to work with Kings as executive who could make the tough decisions while parliaments could in turn check the kings.

PMs turn that on its head with parliamentary supremacy with no real checks on power in many countries other than societal outrage vetoing parliament via street politics. And unlike kings viewing the whole country as their property to be managed, PMs instead focus on maintaining and growing party support for themselves rather than the country as a whole.

Japan is a very high trust society. They are quiet on trains and in public areas, and petty crime is rare. I watched a video just the other day, and it was related to how Japan recently allowed several thousand Syrians into the country. For some unknown reason, the crime rates have gone up where these immigrants settled, the subways are now full of loud voices singing fight songs, and trash has suddenly started appearing in public places.

I think they did it for the same reason they set up a vast censorship machine to target anyone who went against the approved government narrative. It's about control and in many cases to be able to do things like mass immigration, the idiotic war in Ukraine and the equally idiotic war in Gaza.

There is no rational reason to support mass illegal immigration but if the only thing people hear is that it is obviously a good thing and everyone supports it then many will go along with it.

Catholic theology always had a sense of human rights as you will even see it peek up now and again in medieval Speeches from the Throne made by kings ascending to high office.

A lot of these are lost in the mists of time but enough still exist that indicate the reciprocal nature of duties and responsibilities between kings and their nobles and countrymen. Which in turn rests on the ability of the Catholic Church to tame the worst impulses of societies.

Protestantism broke that along with rationalism (ironically derived from Catholic scholars) movement and the Renaissance which placed more focus on the individual than society and stability. Perhaps inevitable after the Black Death, mebbe not. But placing human individuals front and center using the older language of covenants and the Law derived from ancient Jewish concepts, made for a world changing explosion of political thought in the West for good and ill.

169 Macron should call early presidential vote, says his first PM Édouard Philippe. Keep in mind that Philippe follows Bardella (RN) in current polls. So this gives him a shot at the presidency

The new president will then dissolve the assembly and try to win the legislative election with restored legitimacy. There is a good chance it would work.

The risk of having someone win the presidential who isn’t as strong against Putin is too high. Better to have Macron until some stability with the Russian conflict.

Which wouldn't surprise me, because I believe the logic we model with the "Rights model" is mainly supported by the Judeo-Christian tradition.

I do think the problem with the Catholic Church was that it was an authority, and subject to the abuses concomitant with authority.

The stripping down to Sola Scriptura (which is not a 100% belief with me, but I like the cross-pollination, nonetheless) allowed us to focus less on authority and in reading the words of Jesus himself, call ourselves to servant leadership, which is the model of Jesus, himself.

I think the missteps of the Church demonstrate that this is human enterprise with God. That even a human who devotes himself to the service of God and can become renown for his zeal for scripture is still just a human.

I could not read any Japanese in Kanji, etc. But I could speak and understand enough at the end to get through an entire day speaking only Japanese. I mean conversational stuff. I couldn't conduct business or speak in great detail. But enough to get by in a normal day.

I learned this one right away: "Anata wa kireidesu. Kekkon shite imasu ka?"

You can learn the phonetic alphabets in a weekend. The 'chinese' characters, to be able to read and write like a high schooler, would take about a year or two of solid study. Conversation fluency requires living it daily for a year and a half in my experience.

French have a hybrid system courtesy of DeGaulle. Basically the president can run the country through decrees if necessary. Both the 3rd and 4th Republics though resulted in parliamentary deadlocks much as our Congress has for the last 30 years or so.

Mass suffrage voting only works if the differences between citizens are small implying a homogeneity of thought, values, and wealth. So politics then is relatively inconsequential absent an external threat. But when the differences internally are large, the system breaks down such as before the ACW for America or the current inevitability of bankruptcy of Western welfare states.

Across the western world you see people trying to get change by the traditional method of voting for the established party that is out of power and...not getting change.

You can see how successfully the left has take over right leaning establishment parties and just turning them into a continuation of the left leaning established party. Yes they have the Romney haircuts and say the correct things more or less but once given power they continue what the left leaning parties do.

However, he's pissing off the left so much that he's already getting primary challengers for 2028, and he'll probably end up losing because primaries are where dedicated partisans vote. And Republicans won't vote in the Democrat primary.

I think the missteps of the Church demonstrate that this is human enterprise with God. That even a human who devotes himself to the service of God and can become renown for his zeal for scripture is still just a human.

The French have a ruling elite that knows each other, were educated in the same schools, and look down upon average citizens as peasants. Britain has the same issue. Don't know enough about Germany but I would not be surprised the same phenomenon exists.

We have reached where roughly 10-20 percent of the population but a majority or greater of political/business/religion/societal leaders view themselves as more akin across borders than with citizens in their own countries. Thus, their loyalties are with their peer groups rather than whatever country they inhabit.

To them, the World really is Flat because wherever they go around the world, they meet up with their fellow cosmopolitan class and their world is mostly safe, orderly, and sanitized of wrong thinkers. E.g. Mamdani's parents with him and how they lived in Uganda for example.

Al-Jazeera: Greta Thunberg mistreated by Israeli forces in detention, activists say. Activists describe mistreatment after Israel intercepted Gaza aid flotilla and detained about 450 people.

137 deportees landed in Istanbul, including 36 Turkish nationals alongside activists from the United States, Italy, Malaysia, Kuwait, Switzerland, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan and other countries...

Turkish journalist Ersin Celik told local media outlets he witnessed Israeli forces “torture Greta Thunberg,” describing how she was “dragged on the ground” and “forced to kiss the Israeli flag.”

American participant Windfield Beaver gave similar accounts at Istanbul Airport, alleging Thunberg was shoved and paraded with an Israeli flag.

“They treated us like dogs. They left us hungry for three days. They didn’t give us water; we had to drink from the toilet … It was a terribly hot day, and we were all roasting.”

Turkish activist Aycin Kantoglu recounted bloodstained prison walls and messages scrawled by previous detainees. “We saw mothers writing their children’s names on the walls. We actually experienced a little bit of what Palestinians go through,” she said.

This appears to be a thing among the cretinized barbarian "progressive" vermin who now make up much of "elite" US society.

I would think, seriously, that DOJ would simply swap out the entire staff there, down to the admin people. It's a critical office that is 100% unfit for purpose with current personnel. Then at least we'll get some slam-dunk jaw-dropping prosecutions of a few of the Beltway gangster mediocrities who have trashed our institutions the last few years - naturally they'll all be acquitted by "juries" of "Americans" living there, or dismissed by comically lawless "judges", but still.

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel did not circle the wagons around Democratic candidate for Virginia Attorney General, Jay Jones, who was reported this weekend to have texted some extremely violent things about killing a GOP colleague.

“He should probably be forced to withdraw from the race,” Joe Scarborough said. “And ‘probably’ is doing a lot there.”

“Republicans and Democrats alike” are criticizing Jay Jones, Mike Brzezinski said. “NBC News is reporting that Jones did not deny the accuracy of these texts on Friday night, and says he takes full responsibility for his actions.”

“Horrible, I didn’t want to read them out loud.”

“Congresswoman Spanberger, the gubernatorial candidate, did very quickly denounce them,” Jonathan Lemire added. “But it’s unclear whether this attorney general candidate will stay in the race. I think there’s a growing sense that he probably should not… This is just way beyond the line.”

Pretty much everything went right in the US-Japan relationship after that little misunderstanding in the 40s, for most Japanese (idiot US autoworkers in the 80s bashing vastly superior imported Japanese cars never had a widespread analogue in Japan).

It's possible to amicably discuss firebomb raids with living witnesses (who were kids at the time) in Japan and there isn't a trace of resentment towards the US. Japanese haven't generally been properly educated about the depraved behavior of their armed forces during the war, but the blame for destroying the country fell squarely and naturally on the militarist leadership/ultranationalists without need for persuasion.

373 I have noticed that it's been a while since the pro-Uke types have been posting maps on how they are going to divide up Russia into fifty new countries after the glorious Ukrainian victory.

They used to do that all the time.

Preparing for every possibility of what the Russian Federation could look like at the end of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, whenever it may end, is not synonymous with calling for regime change. It is prudent for US and allied policymakers to have an awareness of the different social and ethnic dynamics within the Russian Federation and the potential cracks that may erupt.

2. Unlike the fall of the Soviet Union, when scholars and policymakers knew what the resulting 15 states would look like, it is unknowable which, and how many, ethnic groups in Russia may seek independence, let alone when. But it is almost certain that these ruptures will not align perfectly along the oblasts and republics depicted on the map today.

That's a whole lot of qualifiers, for something that may or may not happen. More to the point, it's one paper, by one institute.

It's hardly what you claimed.

=====

The reform of the GOP is interesting in that it's both top down and bottom up. The middle is what is safest from change as things play out.

Trump's win in 2016 and subsequent wins since have accelerated a process that should have taken decades to get someone like Trump (an 80s moderate Democrat) to become the most conservative Republican presidential candidate since Reagan. Normally, the middle would have changed long before the top changed.

But, the middle is now being squeezed from both top and bottom.

I'm not sure if there's a political change quite like it in American history.

402 John Lennon anecdote: he and a friend were walking through Lennon's palatial English estate, and his friend marveled at it, and said, "But, John! you wrote a whole song about imagining no possessions..."

Lennon laughed. "It's just a fucking SONG, man!"

Back in the late 90s, a friend and I went to the local BLM shooting area, known as the Glass Factory. It was a full house that day, lots of folks set up to shoot, including quite a bit of tannerite stuffed into kitchen appliances, something I'm not a fan of since shrapnel tends to come back and ding your car if you set it up at 10 yards like those guys did. Anyway, Manny had a life size pic of Frau Gruppencankles Clinton stapled to his target stand. He went out to set it up and everyone ignored the cold range command and started blasting it to hell before he got half way back to the firing line. He barely got a chance to put a few holes in it since it got chewed up.

I do wish you'd stop lumping in my country when dissecting the problems of Europe. We have, in addition to some bits and pieces a political system unique in history. Our Republic was carefully crafted to be just that, a Republic. It has through the years successfully withstood challenges that have destroyed lesser governments, with an unbroken record of victory. It is part of our heritage over the years now, to continue the struggle of our predecessors to ensure our Republic endures.

405 To be fair, in Napoleon's day Russia did exactly that, marched from Russia all the way to Paris and took it.

But Macron and his ilk are proposing fighting a war without men to fight it

Reality trumps the games the EU plays every time. Let them keep buying champaign with bad paper.

407 Trump's win in 2016 and subsequent wins since have accelerated a process that should have taken decades to get someone like Trump (an 80s moderate Democrat) to become the most conservative Republican presidential candidate since Reagan. Normally, the middle would have changed long before the top changed.

But, the middle is now being squeezed from both top and bottom.

I'm not sure if there's a political change quite like it in American history.

Probably the collection of the GOP itself from the fragments of the North Whigs and a dozen minor parties to be a nationwide contender in a few years, to winning their first election and accreting a large slug of Northern Dems permanently during the Civil War

409 I don't know of a population in Europe not addicted to government schemes and programs and whatnot to 'give' them stuff. Maybe some of the Easterners since some of them are old enough to remember communism with less than fondness.

I believe that the collapse will come pretty quickly if Trump can continue to lessen their leech-like suction on the American taxpayer.

The tricks they are playing to pretend they have a representative government are running out. They can't really form a working government now, and Macron's time is running out.

Dumping the dead weight of EU regulation might help somewhat, but with "le deep state" likely to go to war with the government means more time wasted rather than fixing things.
