The incriminating ChatGPT conversation--filled with typos--opened with Schaefer asking, "How fucked am I" and "qilll I go to jail." After the AI program "gave tips about the potential outcome of getting caught or being involved in this kind of behavior," Schaefer typed, "What if I smashed the shit outta mutlipls cars."
Oh, and his own phone placed him at the scene.

And it was all caught on security cameras.

Not too bright, this lad.

When did Australia join the 20th century?

Anyway, I'll be upgrading from my 100Mb internet plan this weekend to a cheaper 500Mb one with the same provider. I have a business plan for the static IP and extra support (one of which I depend on and the other I have never used), and they didn't offer the cheap fast plans that recently became available to consumers.

Now apparently they do.

I could upgrade as high as 2Gb now but that costs twice as much as my current 100Mb plan (for 20x the speed) and requires a tech visit to upgrade the modem.
Also bought two weed eaters today because my old one went phut.

The old one was a Bosch cordless, which I bought because I have several other Bosch tools and a stockpile of batteries. It worked well until it when phut so I went onto Amazon to buy a new one and they're out of stock. Bosch sells at least three different models in Australia and Amazon has none of them.

So I found something cheap with decent reviews for about $70 with two batteries and a charger, and bought that.

Then I discovered that Bosch runs its own store on eBay, and bought their current model for about $85 without a battery.

Weeds better look out! In a week. Out here in rural Australia, same-day delivery is still a pipe dream, even if 2Gb internet is readily available.

Before you upgrade your connection, demand to know the make and model of the modem they're going to install. I would try to avoid Intel Puma chipsets.

When I upgraded from an old DOCSIS 2.0 modem to a 3.0 (as part of wanting to go up to 1 gb/s download speed rather than 100 mb/s), I was provided two Hitrons, and then an Arris modem, all with Intel Puma 6 chipsets, and all of them had the same exact problem:

After running some time from 24 to 48 hours, the packet loss would jump to 50 to 60% and the connection to anything would be just awful. Power cycling was required to fix this. I didn't think having to power cycle my modem once a day was acceptable.

Since that ISP couldn't provide me a modem using a different chipset, I jumped ship to one that could and the problems went away.

Indeed. Credit it to a cattywampus sleep pattern because of a two hour nap yesterday afternoon because of a Xanax tablet at noon because of an eye surgery.

Woke up about 3:20 AM and wandered out to see some beautiful stars and planets with first java installment in hand.

Thanks. My existing model handles up to gigabit speeds, and I don't have any plans to upgrade beyond that for now, but I'll make a note of this just in case.

Seems pretty good. I got a new right eye. Now I'll be able to see things at a distance from that eye unaided which hasn't been true for me since the Nixon administration. I guess it takes a few days for the full recovery. Follow up appointment in a few hours.

26 G&R - Looks like the model they provide uses a completely different chipset. Might have its own issues but it's not an Intel Puma 6 or 7.

Also it supports future speeds up to 10Gbit both on the LAN and WAN.

45 No morning walk today as I and a friend are going over to the widow's house to look at the fridge, and follow-up on the A/C install.

Then a quick trip to the Holy City to pick up a replacement glass table top to replace the one that the cats knocked down and broke the other week. It's a small16 inch diameter piece, normally held on top by three worn out suction cups. With new cups. it should be more firmly held in place now.

I'm currently -5 from GMT, so the game started at 9:30 pm (?) Melbourne time.

Oh, yeah, they call GMT "UTC" now. But watches with that tracking hand are still called GMT watches.

Mrs. BD and I drove to our north Israel vacation home late last night. Beautiful up here. The garden is super lush.

Her doctors have come up with a treatment plan that they think might give her some more time. She goes in Monday to get a port, then Tuesday she has a 6-hour chemo infusion. She said the Rev is doing better now that he feels some hope.

And of course, with her beautiful faith, she is ready to go home whenever God calls her. I hope he lets her stay here for a while longer.

I'm sharing this with her permission, and I sent the update to Annie for the prayer thread tomorrow. As is grammie's wont, she is upbeat and cheerful.

I'm not a climate scientist but the Russians have been saying that we're headed into an ice age for about 30 years now. Seems like getting darker could be a prelude to that.

If the Earth is getting darker -- a lowering of albedo -- wouldn't that mean less light is being reflected away, and therefore the Earth is absorbing more heat? A high albedo means more light is reflected from a body than with a low albedo. A dark body would absorb more heat.

130 The most solid use for AI I’ve found so far is using it for image editing.

Creating images is pretty good at this point as well, but image enhancement and restoration is really good now.

I had to scan in some photos for my Dad’s memorial service and it did wonders for one damaged photo in particular.

It was a portrait of my mother and father, taken in the 80s. It was a small one I found in his old wallet, in the plastic photograph holder.

It had been in there awhile, and after that many decades the print had stuck to the plastic. I pulled it out and it took a lot of the photo with it. It was a scratched up mess.

Put it through several free AI image restoration sites on the web. After about five different sites the last one churned out a near perfect restoration.

The only problems were a few changes around their faces where the AI had to guess at what was there, but the finished product looked brand new.

Also had a few older photos, from the 60s and 70s that it repaired and even colorized.

I was impressed and relieved that I didn’t have to try to repair it myself in Photoshop, which would have been quite time-consuming and frustrating.

If there are more clouds in the Northern Hemisphere, yes, less light would reach the surface, making the Earth "darker." But more clouds raise the albedo and reflect more light and heat -- so an ice age is more likely than a warming effect. They can't admit that, so the article is deliberately unclear.

Haven't had a tetanus shot in a long while but did take the pneumonia vaccine as soon as I was old enough. No problems experienced.

I’ve got the 1000 mbps plan.

Even with that, and the router on one end of the house with a WiFi extender on the other, I only get around 250 mbps up & down on WiFi 5 at this side of the house.

Which works fine for everything even with a few devices using it.

My brother stopped by the Buc-ees nearest to us (about 100 miles) a few times.

He got a few of their frozen stuffed chickens, and they were pretty tasty. Only had to plop it in the oven for an hour or whatever it was.

They are known for all of their frozen and ready-made foods too, not just for what they serve.

It does, but it’s worded so vaguely that the federal government could make it a real challenge to do it.

For instance, the amount needed to win a plebiscite and what happens after that is not clear.

If Alberta decided to leave the confederation Ottawa would make it more difficult than the EU did to the UK for Brexit.

Ottawa needs that petroleum & gas money from Alberta and would not let them go willingly.

We had nothing at all in our little town 10 years ago. Then an enormous master-planned community got built a few years ago and we now have an independent donut shop. They're very good and friendly, but I'm not sure it's worth the rest of the congestion.
