Ms Norwood probably won't be invited to pitch the latest Hollywood movie on late night TV. Also won't have to read about their sexploits and other scandals in the gossip columns.
OTOH, Hollywood is protesting too much. There are no Big Names that every producer wants in their movies to attract an audience. The Big Names ended with Gen-X, now there is a bland, forgettable array of nobodies that make AI far more interesting.

A lot of extras in movies are CGI now, have been for decades, since 'Secondhand Lions' and 'Gladiator'.
I'd love to see a major studio use a CGI actor in a movie with real actors. They should be used to green screens by now.

I was kind of neutral on the whole thing at first...figured the AI will suck for some time, so actors (people paid well for playing pretend) had little to fear.
However, realizing self-righteous, smug, asshole actors will lose their power and be relegated to local community theater and coffee shops is VERY appealing...

For actors, the human elements you need are an action model and voice talent, and no one knows what those people look like anyway; they're like studio musicians. Everything else can be AI'd.
I hope I see the death of the Overpaid Hollywood Celebrity in my lifetime. Sound stages a thing of the past, the Oscars become the Techies, Hollywood is to movies what Antwerp is to banking (i.e., ancient history), costs plunge thus making quality movies affordable again (stupid superhero tentpoles not needed), and people go to local theaters if they want to see human actors thus rejuvenating live theater.
It could go that way, I don't know. But I think we're on the cusp of major change.

There are thousands, nay hundreds of thousands of people who are good enough at acting to be in Hollywood, but they are fenced out due to nepotism. I see retrospectives on movies that are hitting anniversaries and how they used open casting for key roles and sifted through hundreds of people for the part before picking a total unknown.
The studios are no longer independent. They are owned by mega-corps who want steady, reliable profit margins, so they go with established names and established brands and hope that marketing will eke out just enough profit to make the quarterly earnings expectation.
The solution is to create new studios who are wiling to swing for the fences. The situation is very much like it was 50 years ago when the studio system was dying and independent filmmakers came along and created the true blockbuster.
Angel Studios is showing the way. We need more like it.

Learn from the Exploding Pagers episode. Any manufactured artifact can be booby-trapped, either by saboteurs at the factory, or ANYWHERE along the supply chain! Very important to remember.

How does that work legally? You have an image that is fake. It's not an actual likeness of anyone, just a face and body.
But people can have similar faces and bodies. They can add a mole, or slighly thicker eyebrows, and it's not the same.
It's not like Batman or Luke Skywalker, which would be protected. It's just a kind of look, so anyone would make adult films using the same look. That has gone on for a while, but the limiting factor was finding a lookalike who could also mimic the mannerisms, but now it's all fake, so you just make something fake in the same way.

The ending worked because it also made sense. She realizes that his career is what drives him, and he has the compassion to set her free. Part of this is self-interest on his part, because he knows that if he's gone on another assignment, she'll stray anyway, because he's a lousy husband.
I think that's why it passed the Hays Code - Gable came on strong, but his intentions were good. She wavered, tried to do the right thing, and in the end, even her husband had to admit he had done her wrong by marrying her.
It's funny how people rip on old movies for being moralistic and simplistic, yet they are 100x more complex than the dreck they crank out today.

Even if you do a Recovery Mode Factory Reset, it survives and strikes while you are setting up your phone or tablet again.

Maybe I could do Factory Reset and Restore on my Win 10 and 11 boxes. Fat chance, because the recovery image on the SSD is probably infected too. Left side head pipe is made, and a curved piece is currently dummied up to link it to the intermediate pipe. The up-down bend is about right, but I need to add a little lateral bend to make it meet the intermediate pipe squarely. Will likely weld those joints, too, as they are pretty accessible.

Next don't rely on Windows defender for malware protection, use it as backup. Bit defender or malwarebytes are superior. If using Linux, clamav is installed by default and runs from command line. I can see that. I go through an insane amount of stranded copper wire making custom wiring harnesses for the custom bikes, or repairing butchered sections of harnesses on existing bikes. One of the shops I work out of had bought a bunch of spools of wire in every color found on a harley. I think it was 10 or 12 spools. Made in china. The shit was sooooo bad that it couldn't survive being crimped into any ring terminal without breaking apart. It turned out that it was copper plated, not solid copper strands. The dude threw it right in the trash.

In settings, go to apps and set permissions and disable it. You can't remove it without rooting your device because Google put it as a base app on devices for hone automation device control.If the app is running, you usually have to stop it first, then disable it do it doesn't start again in reboot.
And get yourself free bit defender for your device at least. Works on Android , macs, and windows. The paid version has more functions.

I remember meeting a guy at a swap meet who had hundreds of rolls of beautiful old wire, rubber-insulated with cotton jacket, and many different patterns. Turned out he scrapped out old buses, and there was a fuckton of wiring in the ceilings for interior lighting, all nicely protected from the weather. When I scrap out a car or truck, I deconstruct the harnesses, make the individual wires into hanks by wrapping them around my hand, and store hanks of the same color on loops of old fence wire, hung on the shop wall. While I was thinking about this I was puttering around the house and listening to streaming music. It occurred to me that I didn't need an orchestra in my living room. When I was in the boy scouts we used to do this winter trip up in stokes state forest. Holy shit was it cold. 20 below one year. We hunted down some smooth bowling ball size rocks and would put them in the fire all day, and at night we would wrap one in a T-shirt and put one in our sleeping bags. It was nice, like a little radiator. Halfway through the night it would be cooled off, and we toss them back in the hot coals of the fire and grabbed a new ones for the second half of the night. I hated that trip.

I had the Titan Pocket rooted, but have not yet installed the Lineage OS. I see no real need at this point. No longer getting nags to "set up my Google account", since I nuked the particular Google .asw that was responsible for that. Phone works as a phone, and I can send and receive texts and images. I don't have a browser on it yet, and really don't miss it. The phone was only $195, IIRC. Pocket-sized smart phone with a physical keyboard, and a big battery that will keep it in standby mode for a week. You know what a Blackberry looked like? Like that.

That is funny. I was only in Scouts for two years, and we never did a winter overnight (despite being Canucks). We did some really long fucking late winter's marches through ice and snow and cold, but eventually bivouacked back at a toasty warm church, and had eggs and pancakes and cocoa and everything civilized for breakfast the next day.

The Mars orbiters ought to be busy right now taking shots of 3I/ATLAS right now during closest approach to Mars (call that periareion).
Because of the stupid shutdown, NASA may delay processing and releasing their data, meaning ESA will scoop them.
It's interesting, all the hardware on Mars will be working together to get the data back to earth. The Rovers will be used as relays to get data from one orbiter, store it, then send it back to another orbiter which will send it to earth.

They do. There is a firewood mill a mile up the road from me. They haul in truckload after truckload (big logging trucks, too) of beetle-killed pine, plus some birch from land clearing sites, and saw it up into 16" lengths, and split it, shrink-wrap it, and palletize it. Gets sold retail by many stores, and they also have a contract to supply firewood to Provincial campsites.

I know of a beach on a lake in Northern Alberta that has purple sand. Purple, because the sand is comprised of a particular type of garnet found in kimberlite pipes. Might well be microdiamonds, too. Dunno.
And I saw a beach in Greenland that was green, from grains of olivine weathered out of the basalt cliffs nearby. Some olivine can be of gem quality.

One was a WWII vet who told stories about how much fun it was shooting japs out of trees in the pacific, and the other was a mountain climber who used to go to italy to climb shit in the frigging alps. So what did *our* troop do. We cliff climbed, we repelled, we kayaked 70 miles on the Allagash river in maine, hiked to the summit of mt washington in summer, and snowshoed some of the trails in winter, hiked 60 miles on the Appalachian trail, built monkey bridges over rivers, did survival trips, and you'll love this, a 1 mile swim. I didn't know If I was a boy scout or special forces.

Was only inside (other than a tent or "bunker", which were snow and plywood) once, driver and I cheated and ducked into a small village restaurant for .... poutine. Quite funny, inside were several tables of guys with green arm-bands (I had blue, umpire, could go anywhere).
Food was good in the field. Logistics of storing high-quality boil-in-bag camping food is easy when it's 10 degrees (and you consume about 30% more than usual). Equipment was great. Air-gap boots, rabbit-fur on the back of the huge mittens. Never was cold really. Icicles above your face in the tent in the morning were amusing. Was in the CO's tent, so by the time the two sgts were up and had started the small heaters, it was a comfy 30-something when I emerged from the 3-layer sleeping bag. Loved the experience. And it led to annual x-c skiing trips and other stuff down road.

Some were educational and great for the boys, I absolutely concur. But I also believe that occasionally, the outings were run by psychos with a "pain = gain" attitude. I'm also not big on subjecting them to activities where kids could get killed if they didn't achieve the objectives almost perfectly.
These may have actually rarely happened, or at least I hope so. I just wonder about it sometimes.

I love being in the woods, but really don't care for tent-camping. Had a little camp-trailer for a few years and enjoyed it, but sold it after late bf passed. Haven't spent a night in the woods since & it's been 25 years now.
No regrets! I can make fire, split wood, cook over open flame. Not worried if SHTF-- although I'd rather just stay in my house, if possible.

12 x 16 tent.... full Queen inflatable mattress with real sheets and blankets.... full kitchen outside... so coffee in the morning...
Use LCD candles... plus lanterns for light...
And could get it ALL into my Camaro... weirdly enough.

Late bf & I had set up in a nice little spot with our tiny camper, cooked supper & cleaned up, let the fire burn low before bed...
Middle of the night, some buncha rednecks with 4 (!) teen boys squeezed into our little clearing with a big motorhome. Shouting and drinking, stoking up the fire *we* had built, and stayed up & burned all the wood *we* had cut & packed over to the spot. Grrrrr.
Funny part? There was a pile of wood (rounds) up by the logging road that we decided to not bring over because full of ants. Well, smart-asses brought it over to sit on, after burning up all of ours. LMAO! You can guess how that went for them!
They turned out to be ok people, got to know them a little better in the morning. Those stooopid kids though.....
