Sure, it's interesting to see the "evolution" of Democrats over the years on issues such as illegal immigration - but BHO is about as believable in those clips as he was here. ![]() Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated young actress who has been stirring things up among human actors who see her as a threat, has the potential to become a global star, at least according to her creator. AI has slowly been encroaching on virtually every sector of society and the job market, and if you needed more proof that no profession is truly safe, AI-generated actors are getting ready to take on their human counterparts. Artificial intelligence talent studio Xicoia sparked controversy when it started promoting its impressive creation, an AI-generated actress named Tilly Norwood, during the summer. Launched by Dutch technologist Emily Van der Velden as part of her company Particle 6 Productions, Xicoia specializes in AI acting talent, and Tilly is the startup’s first big project. Hollywood talent agents have allegedly been quietly circling Norwood for representation, and Van der Velen believes that the AI actress could one day become as big as Scarlett Johansson. It doesn’t solve any ‘problem’ — it creates the problem of using stolen performances to put actors out of work, jeopardizing performer livelihoods and devaluing human artistry.”Ms. Norwood and other AI-generated "talent" are making things uncomfortable for members of the actors' guild? ![]() 12,000-year-old engravings of desert animals like the dromedary camel were used by ancient Arabian tribes to mark where water could be found, a new discovery hypothesizes. An international team of archaeologists discovered more than 60 rock art panels containing 176 engravings in three previously unexplored areas: Jebel Arnaan, Jebel Mleiha, and Jebel Misma, along the southern edge of the Nefud Desert in northern Saudi Arabia. The engravings mainly depict camels, ibex, equids, gazelles, and auroch in 130 life-sized and naturalistic figures, some measuring up to three 10 feet long and more than two 6 feet high.Pretty cool article. Ms Norwood probably won't be invited to pitch the latest Hollywood movie on late night TV. Also won't have to read about their sexploits and other scandals in the gossip columns. OTOH, Hollywood is protesting too much. There are no Big Names that every producer wants in their movies to attract an audience. The Big Names ended with Gen-X, now there is a bland, forgettable array of nobodies that make AI far more interesting. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at October 02, 2025 10:06 PM (a4flb) 24

Tom Petty was killed by his strong work ethic and commitment to his people. He cracked his hip early on the last tour and didn't want to stop. He could afford to but the crew couldn't. So he took pain killers and kept going. The hip got worse and went from cracked to broken and, of course, the dosage he needed went up.
After the tour finished he finally relaxed. Which reduced the amount of pain killers he needed turning his prescribed dosage into a fatal overdose. Posted by: KCSteve at October 02, 2025 10:09 PM (bxAlI) 34
Mikhail Kovalchuk, the head of Russia’s Kurchatov nuclear research institute... alleged that western countries were plotting to unleash a deadly virus to reduce the number of people on Earth. He also claimed the West was using LGBT and child-free ideologies to cut populations because robots would soon be able to work better and more effectively.... 'They introduced the LGBT agenda and for those who didn’t go along with it, they offered a second option — the child-free family. It’s working brilliantly. In a generation or two, there’ll be no continuation of their bloodlines. Only a small elite, the ones they actually need, will remain. As for the rest — the people they don’t even see as human — they’ll be eliminated with biological weapons. A virus or something like that with a 90 per cent mortality rate will come along and mow them down'.

If you watch a video of "her" you can sort of see what real life women they generated into her face. For actors, the human elements you need are an action model and voice talent, and no one knows what those people look like anyway; they're like studio musicians. Everything else can be AI'd. I hope I see the death of the Overpaid Hollywood Celebrity in my lifetime. Sound stages a thing of the past, the Oscars become the Techies, Hollywood is to movies what Antwerp is to banking (i.e., ancient history), costs plunge thus making quality movies affordable again (stupid superhero tentpoles not needed), and people go to local theaters if they want to see human actors thus rejuvenating live theater. It could go that way, I don't know. But I think we're on the cusp of major change. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at October 02, 2025 10:24 PM (4U88C) 102

Posted by: Smell the Glove at October 02, 2025 10:20 PM (A2I8b) --- There are thousands, nay hundreds of thousands of people who are good enough at acting to be in Hollywood, but they are fenced out due to nepotism. I see retrospectives on movies that are hitting anniversaries and how they used open casting for key roles and sifted through hundreds of people for the part before picking a total unknown. The studios are no longer independent. They are owned by mega-corps who want steady, reliable profit margins, so they go with established names and established brands and hope that marketing will eke out just enough profit to make the quarterly earnings expectation. The solution is to create new studios who are wiling to swing for the fences. The situation is very much like it was 50 years ago when the studio system was dying and independent filmmakers came along and created the true blockbuster. Angel Studios is showing the way. We need more like it. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at October 02, 2025 10:24 PM (ZOv7s) Posted by: CapeFear at October 02, 2025 10:25 PM (cvA2x) 104

I would force studios to explain why a film can't be made in the USA, or tariff it to death. Sick of all of Hollywood getting to behave, everywhere, like hyper-entitled Kardashians on a cocaine rush. 138 ... whoosh, it gets secretly sucked up a hidden place in your Google Drive, which surprise, is there, even though you never enabled it or used it. Then, when you do a Google login on ANY other machine or platform (Win, Linux, IBM 370, whatever,) whoosh, down it comes and infects THAT machine. Pretty soon, all your devices are infected. If you disinfect, if you're logged into Google, whoosh it comes back down and reinstalls. It's a BITCH.
Would be nice if Google logins didn't do that, and silently to boot, but there it is. So I must sledgehammer both of my Android devices, because they can't be set up without a Google login. Even if you do a Recovery Mode Factory Reset, it survives and strikes while you are setting up your phone or tablet again. Do you have an Android device? If the USA is China's greatest rival, why is it's leader's daughter living here? If they're going to invade Taiwan, maybe she might want to catch a flight home before she's interned as an enemy alien? Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd =============== Ha, good question. I just don't know how things are going to shake out. "Snow White" was drawn by hand. Made by humans. AI and computer-generated images lose that "human touch." They feel artificial because they are. Hollywood is increasingly cut off from real life. They can't write characters or dialog. No one there has bought their own groceries or held a day job for any appreciable amount of time. =============== 1 - How many people could name the Snow White artists? 2 - Disney produced some absolute garbage in between its First and Second Golden Ages of Animation, fully hand-drawn. 3 - I think you underestimate the talent of body models, voice talents, and digital artists. AI will look fully human and move you to laughter and tears when someone puts their mind to it. The people behind the AI will not be insanely rich and famous and detached from real life, like today's celebrities. 4 - In any case, insanely rich and famous celebrities have been, some of them, the thing called ACTORS, capable of playing real-life characters like you and me for ages. Lucy Arnaz could dust and sweep 623 East 68th Street like a 1950s housewife. Clint Eastwood can say "Get off my lawn." Every line in Casablanca. 33 Tom Petty was killed by his strong work ethic and commitment to his people.
More work on the Avanti exhaust system today. Right side is essentially finished. I installed the 15 inch long curved piece to join the head pipe to the intermediate pipe with clamps, and it is solid, and clearance exists where it needs to. But I think I may weld those joints and dispense with the clamps. Looks nicer.
Left side head pipe is made, and a curved piece is currently dummied up to link it to the intermediate pipe. The up-down bend is about right, but I need to add a little lateral bend to make it meet the intermediate pipe squarely. Will likely weld those joints, too, as they are pretty accessible. Also got speedo cable and trans cooler lines hooked up. The "under the car" stuff is fast becoming done. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 02, 2025 11:30 PM (Nzhwp) 273

CCP has placed tens of thousands of agents and saboteurs in Taiwan. When they give the signal, Taiwan falls quickly. Why are we allowing her to live here? I don't think there's much question anymore that the two biggest powers are the US and China. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at October 02, 2025 11:53 PM (4U88C) Fernando de Rojas wrote the "first" modern novel La Celestina, which is similar to Romeo & Juliet, but instead of focusing on the story of love attempting to circumvent society and family, it focused on how Calixto hired a procuress and witch to help him seduce Melibea, who he had met by chance and fell in love with, and the Celestina suborned all the servants in both houses to make it happen. In the end, Calixto tries to make a fast escape and breaks his neck falling from the ladder, the servants get into a knife fight and the survivors are killed by the city watch who think they are robbers, and only Melibea is left bemoaning her lost virginity. Tennessee Williams or William Faulkner could have written it. Posted by: Kindltot at October 03, 2025 12:07 AM (rbvCR) 348

Next don't rely on Windows defender for malware protection, use it as backup. Bit defender or malwarebytes are superior. If using Linux, clamav is installed by default and runs from command line. Lynis is a system auditor for Linux systems but is almost overkill with info as it is designed for network security pros. Fwiw, you can live boot Linux on a compromised system with a USB or DVD. Use the live clam av version to scan the windows partitions safely. Regarding firewalls, unless you know specific ports to be blocked, then let it apply general rules. >>> So am I saying "AI is NOT asshoe"? All things considered, I still land on "AI is asshoe".
Gutfeld's show had an intriguing discussion on this. Tyrus, who is always great, said AI actors mean the dawn of the creator. Say you're not pretty, but you have great ideas and great stories. You can now, for a fraction of the cost, build or hire an "actor" that won't shut down production to storm off to their trailer ( or go all "goooooooood for youuuuuuu!"), or shiv you on social media. No more Weinstein casting couch monsters. Create the art in your head with less roadblocks and toxicity. And especially after the era of woke, people are craving good stories, they will be king. One of the ladies on Gutfeld had a point that we will always need celebrities. Sadly. We love to hate them and judge their trashy lifestyles. And we'll admire real pole and truly gifted talented actors. But this frees up the creative landscape. And it's Hollywood's fault, and the toxic culture they built. I was pondering the whole 'is AI asshoe' debate earlier today. Sure I could deal with fewer psycho lefty stars like Bette Midler and Jane Fonda and Mark Ruffalo. If Hollywood went away, I wouldn't shed a tear.
While I was thinking about this I was puttering around the house and listening to streaming music. It occurred to me that I didn't need an orchestra in my living room. Instead, they figured out a century ago how to get music in our homes with no musicians. And now they're figuring out how to create movies without actors. BFD. I know it's not a perfect analogy, but it works for me. Especially if it reduces the number of future lefty wingnut celebrities. Posted by: 496 at October 03, 2025 12:41 AM (z1j+k) 394

Posted by: Boss Moss at October 03, 2025 01:17 AM (aPBTP) They do. There is a firewood mill a mile up the road from me. They haul in truckload after truckload (big logging trucks, too) of beetle-killed pine, plus some birch from land clearing sites, and saw it up into 16" lengths, and split it, shrink-wrap it, and palletize it. Gets sold retail by many stores, and they also have a contract to supply firewood to Provincial campsites. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 03, 2025 01:24 AM (Nzhwp) 474

In another lifetime, we went hunting elk on horseback and during our time on the fringe of the frontier, the temperature hit -20. We built a massive bonfire on a glacial wash of rock and used those old school space blankets to keep our bedrolls from catching on fire while we tried to catch some shuteye. Fortunately, it worked out great for warmth, unfortunately, nobody slept much but not because of the extreme cold, but because the mountain lion stalking our horses screamed all fucking night and drove the horses crazy.

Had an interesting winter camping expedition with a few thousand friends up in the great white north years ago. Don't think it ever got much above 10 all week. But it was gray and still most of the time.
Was only inside (other than a tent or "bunker", which were snow and plywood) once, driver and I cheated and ducked into a small village restaurant for .... poutine. Quite funny, inside were several tables of guys with green arm-bands (I had blue, umpire, could go anywhere). Food was good in the field. Logistics of storing high-quality boil-in-bag camping food is easy when it's 10 degrees (and you consume about 30% more than usual). Equipment was great. Air-gap boots, rabbit-fur on the back of the huge mittens. Never was cold really. Icicles above your face in the tent in the morning were amusing. Was in the CO's tent, so by the time the two sgts were up and had started the small heaters, it was a comfy 30-something when I emerged from the 3-layer sleeping bag. Loved the experience. And it led to annual x-c skiing trips and other stuff down road. Posted by: rhomboid at October 03, 2025 01:38 AM (U/Byj) 496

While I support scouting, and think it should have been allowed to stay a male-only organization, I also think that over the years, not every nature trip was created equal.
Some were educational and great for the boys, I absolutely concur. But I also believe that occasionally, the outings were run by psychos with a "pain = gain" attitude. I'm also not big on subjecting them to activities where kids could get killed if they didn't achieve the objectives almost perfectly. These may have actually rarely happened, or at least I hope so. I just wonder about it sometimes. Anyway, enough of my worried, pampered head. Off to bed. Thanks everyone for the great ONT! Posted by: qdpsteve at October 03, 2025 02:00 AM (8z6SV) 514

Morning, nightwalkers.
Stray thoughts about Tilly Norwood... - She looks incredibly.... normal. They asked an AI to come up with "The Ideal Actress", and it's just a pretty, normal looking American. Not some landwhalish high priestess of aposematism, not some paragon of racial purity, not an 11 out of 10 bombshell. Just a pretty, nice looking girl who looks like she is nice. Fascinating, that. - All actors who are worth a damn model themselves after other actors, in their mannerisms, speech tics, how they perform, etc etc. No one owes anyone royalties for using others as an inspiration. Every one of the twits mewling that they were used for training without compensation has done exactly that themselves to create their own career. Nobody's cutting checks to the estate of Humphrey Bogart. "AI" is just a lot more efficient at it. Posted by: Warai-otoko at October 03, 2025 03:51 AM (06Hmj) 542

We are now playing 'kill the rat' in the bed, much to my wife's annoyance, lol. She just mumbled something about 'boys' and rolled over and pulled the blanket over her head... Posted by: My Pimp Shot My Dealer at October 03, 2025 03:59 AM (Ypn7P) 545

Camping for me is a lot like swimming or running.
I can do any of the three fairly competently. But if you ever see me doing any of the three, it means something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. Posted by: Warai-otoko at October 03, 2025 04:02 AM (06Hmj) 547
Hahahaha.. Wifey is wise to cover up her head & face! Lil kitty claws are merciless. And razor-sharp.

AI is not asshoe. It is a Language Model, not an intelligence. It is not sentient.
The people pushing these language models on us as if they were actual artificial intelligence? Oh yeah, they're definitely asshoe. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at October 03, 2025 04:29 AM (O7YUW) Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at October 03, 2025 04:31 AM (O7YUW) 551
the police are terrible, the frequency with which their big hits are repeated on dead rock star radio make me intolerant of any thing else they may have done. i think message in a bottle or roxanne one more time may cause me a seizure.
i tolerate rush for their sense of fun appearing on sctv and tpb. reasonably self effacing. and the fact that pert rode to all the concert venues during tours. plus the rush pinball game is good. listening to 2112 in the 70s was groovy. not so much now. i didn't even realize petty was dead. no wonder drs radio rehashes his pablum constantly. ugh. thanks for all the zappa though.
