The Chinese aren't interested in seeing their own people die, so they don't really send much troops to help Russia. Russia doesn't have as many troops as they say, but they have all the drones China feels like sending them, and China has manufacturing capabilities way beyond ours.

Russia would prefer a swift conclusion to the war. The SMO was supposed to end in a negotiated settlement but Bad Bad Bories blew it.
I don't know anything about China sending troops to Ukraine. There have been claims that Chinese or North Koreans were there, but Russia has lots of 'Asiatic' troops that would rotate through as well.
Either way, I think Ukraine is a muddle and neither side is happy with the way things are going. Putin did not intend to get stuck in a multi-year conflict. China has huge structural problems and US trade policy is making them worse

It's an awesome lose-lose scenario for the Dems. If they cave, they piss off their base. If they hold firm and shut down the government, they will also lose their base, many of whom are in government jobs that will be cut.

Putin knows that if he pushes too deep into ethnic Ukrainian territory, he will get an insurgency. This is why the whole "Putin will drive to the Vistula if we don't stop him now!" argument is crap. He knows that he doesn't have enough troops or national will to try to retake the Baltics, which are useless to him anyway.
What started as a brushback pitch has now escalated into a brawl without an end in sight. He could bide his time with Biden bumbling around, but Trump thinks outside the box, and is going to make Russia hurt in ways no one has thought about.
Elon has probably gathered up a bunch of his autistic wizards to brainstorm ways to make Russia cry with pain, and Trump has no problems with sending a CSG and anchoring of Vladivostok with 20,000 Marines ready to re-enact 1919.
It would piss off both China and Russia, so a win-win. Japan would probably be pleased as punch to throw a submarine screen in front of it and do "joint exercises" wit their totally-not-aircraft carriers.

Men, on the other hand, either are abused into being gay, or choose it out of decadence because they've exhausted all other depravity.

My great-grandfather saved the letters between him and my great-grandmother. You can read through their meeting, courtship, and marriage. And then he gets drafted and goes to France in 1918. What really stands out is how excited they both are about the wedding night. Neither of them can wait.
Afterwards, they have an easy familiarity with each other, and after he is drafted, he's a bit more earthy in terms of saying how much he misses "the twins" from France, and she reciprocates, giving "Johnny" her best wishes and missing 'him' terribly.
That was a better culture than what we have now.

Some things, like say, thalidomide, have been proven horrible. Why risk it?

I went to replace an M.2 SSD chip in an Inspiron 15 laptop.
Eight screws in the bottom clamshell.
Seven came right out.
One spins counter-clockwise freely, but Will. Not. Come. Out.
No sign of head or slot damage on top of the screw, so nobody else munged it up, This defect came from the factory.
I've tried everything Grok suggested. This is one of the two screws aside the hinges, so it is vital to keep the shell from cracking due to hinge torque. Can't just drill it out and leave the hole empty.
Otherwise it's a damn fine laptop, other than the fact that it's running Win 11.

Screw might go into a knurled brass plug cast into the plastic case. Try using epoxy to cement a screwdriver into the screw head, and let it set up overnight. Then turn while pulling up on the screwdriver.

Oh it works fine. Except its not what it used to be. They broke everything good, and now it works more like ordinary Gnome. They threw out Synaptic Package Manager and replaced it with a new app that's wired to a very limited kiddie repo. They changed all the look and feel of earlier Cinnamon. Had to spend hours reconfiguring it to be even barely useful.
Now when I pip install a python package that's outside their new kindergarten distro, I can't run it anywhere except inside a venv virtual environment. Gah.

Well, "threaded" holes in plastic are often achieved by molding in a knurled brass bushing with a machine-screw thread in it. Cheap stuff, usually they just use tapping screws. If you can get the old screw out, you could coat a new screw with wax, and set it in the damaged hole with JB Weld, let it set up, and unscrew it, leaving a threaded hole again.

Allow persons who apply for it, permanent "resident alien" status as long as they are receiving retirement income from their country of origin. I'll fart around with it again only if I must, like if the hinge threatens to crack the clamshell for lack of support.
It's a nice machine. Fit and finish like a Rolex. Engineered for minimum weight so the shell is paper thin. I'd prefer engineered like a tank, but I got this for free from my sister's estate, so I'll take what I can get, since I can't afford anything else anymore.
Already dropped my home internet connection, my home insurance and my auto collision coverage. Just the minimum auto liability insurance for me is skyhigh because it's a 2012 Hyundai, and I live in Kia Boy neighborhood. I know a guy with a damn DUI on his record, and he gets insurance on TWO vehicles for a third of what I pay, because he lives way out in the sticks far away from the urbans.

This guy is a prick. He told my tenant "nothing to worry about" (I had the tenant execute an affidavit to document that STUPID remark) when the inspector knew damn well I was going to be forced to evict him!
When I showed the asshole inspector the affidavit, I discovered he doesn't even know how to read without moving his lips. He denied saying it, and told him to execute his own fucking affidavit to the contrary, and he never did. Then I told him he pulled that remark right out of his fucking ass.
So now the tenant resists when I tell him I was forced (under duress of the threat of $5000/day fines) that he had to move out, He was going to try to squat it out; the guy didn't have two nickels to rub together, lived off pawn shop loans. Finally I had to bribe the tenant $$$ to move out.
The tenant is assistant pastor at my church by the way. I couldn't bring myself to take communion anymore, so I quit. I realized I can't love my enemies.

Autism can probably be caused by a lot of things, I suspect, like filling up a cup. Gestational diabetes (something else they suspect causes it), fluoride in the water, painkillers, other meds, environmental toxins, plastics, fevers, vaccines, genetics... fill up too much of the cup and it pours over and boom, autism. That's my theory. And you don't know how big the cup is or how much each factor will fill the cup. And two people can do the same thing and kids turn out different.

The last 50 years or so of science has been a weird dark age for science. Some types of science, climate, diet, and vaccines, suddenly became settled and we could have no conversations about them, no debate, no testing. Which is so evilly anti science. I'm glad we can at least have the discussions again! We will get there.

RE: Asbestos. The particles that are present in standard fiberglass insulation are much more likely to cause "asbestosis" than actual asbestos, so unless you were an asbestos miner who never wore your respirator, your chances of getting asbestosis from anything in your building/home/anyfuckingwhere are about nil. The chance of a lawyer getting rich from it: $1M
Same deal with lead. Unless your kid is peeling all of the paint off a wall, and eating all of it, over the course of about two days, the chance of your kid being effected by it is: nil. Again the chance of the lawyer making bank: astronimical.
