26 I was in Greece a few years ago. Thessaloniki, right along the shore at the White Tower. I didn't see ANYTHING like this!

In fact, it happened to be a gay pride parade/event, some Jamaican-looking scammers were selling string bracelets, and some old hippie dude was playing "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak (which I heard SEVERAL times in public markets in the Balkans).

The blue slip policy originated in Southern senators wanting the ability to block integrationist judges and other patronage positions in their state and is a perversion of senatorial courtesy practices that preceded them. Back in teh day though, in other areas, the require for patronage signoff in states with no Republican senators was the senior House member from that state.

FWIW, blue slip policy is not found in any statute, nor even in the Senate rules but is viewed as a Chair's courtesy to other senators outside the Judiciary Committee.

Calling a recess to steamroll the Senate and input a bunch of appointments just feels like it would be unpopular with a lot of Senators.

Right now, the Senate has become the center for disorder in American politics like at the beginning of the progressive era. House of Lords did similar things in UK about the same time.

And most of it comes from the fact that the Democrats cannot accept any loss or rollback of the administrative state they have built since Woodrow Wilson. And that is unpopular with voters so they latch on to increasingly desperate and idiotic positions like demanding government fund 1.5 trillion for all sorts of health care for unpopular things like trannie ops, illegals, and other things. Plus NPR for some weird reason.

Even gimmedats are not going to get much voting inspiration for midterms from that stance.

Once they were big enough the power company "trimmed" them. Basically, gave those trees a flat top haircut every 5 years until it killed them. Power company comes to trim them again, guy comes to the door and tells me those trees are half dead, you want us to just cut them down? He got an ear full of my opinion on the power company tree trimming technique. But they did cut them down.

Speaking of movies...

I watched "Magnolia" again after a couple of decades...mostly to hear Jon Brion's score.

And after hearing his score for the previous night for "Punch Drunk Love"...yeah, the guy's some kind of genius. Probably check out "Eternal Sunshine..." and "I Heart Huckabee's" soundtracks and/or movies next.

As far as "Magnolia" goes, I still think its reputation is overblown. The multiple character arcs don't track well or make sense sometimes. The mysterious, miraculous rain of frogs at the end is supposed to signal a moment where everything is possible and new ways/paths in life can occur.

I really like the idea but for some reason it just doesn't pay off well. I suppose the cop and druggie's story works the best in that regard.

Great directing, some great scenes, great acting with all of the major actors getting their moment to shine. But, the final film is a bit of a dog's breakfast.

Great score though and well used.

Good example is Incitatus. Caligula made an offhand joke that the horsie could do better in the Senate than most people in it (which was probably true) and eventually it got into the history-books that he made him Consul.
It's like how people dredge up jokes from Ben Shapiro in 2011 that Netanyahu should be (American) President. At the same time he nominated Cookie Monster for President. Apparently we can accept the latter as a goak but not the former.

348 Boogie Nights is PTA's best, most complete, straight forward and rewatchable movie, Magnolia is very good character study of different character archetypes, the rest of his films can be a slog, and as great as There Will Be Blood is, largely due to DDL and Paul Dano's performances, there is no reason to re-watch it, nor a film like Phantom Thread.

And being that One Battle After Another is essentially a pro-Antifa/Terrorism polemic, there is no reason to see it.

I'll agree there are some segments of our society that fit the description of degraded and decadent, but by NO means does it describe the entirety. Our society is way too big and variegated for that. I further suspect that this is representational of other times in our society, and because it cannot by structure remain unaltered.
