David Lee Roth, master of everything!
In 2004, he trained as a state-licensed emergency medical technician in New York. In 2012 he said, "I probably have over 200 9-1-1 calls on my ticket in the last six years alone. I live a very different life away from music." He is a martial artist, has been training in kenjutsu since he was twelve years old, and also practices kenpō and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Since 2006, Roth is a licensed private pilot for rotorcraft-helicopter. (wikipedia) Posted by: m at September 27, 2025 04:43 AM (aURVT) 6

Goodmorning, good people, from the Adirondacks. There's more than a hint on these mornings that a weather change is in the offing. I'm guessing there will be sufficient snow this year for the skiers and snowmobilers if the upper wind patterns continue. Meantime, may all effort on your part result in maximal benefit to you and grievous heartburn for the ambulatory leftwit feces who contaminate the landscape. Evening and morning to you late toilers and early risers on this Saturday -- the last of September! How'd it get so late in the year when I wasn't looking?
I'm awake ahead of the alarm I set. Breakfast at the hotel is not until 7:00 on weekends, so I have some time to kill. Once I wake up a bit more I'll hit the fitness center for some treadmill time, then shave and shower. If there's still more time until they set out the spread, I'll have a pipe outside. Current temp in Evansville: 57 F., going for a high of 83, dry-ish air conditions. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 27, 2025 05:41 AM (cCu74) 19

The Searchers is on TCM right now. John

He does, and Wayne's Ethan shoots him and takes back the money they paid him earlier. Seems sensible to me. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 27, 2025 05:45 AM (cCu74) 22

Today is my last in Evansville. I'll drive to inspect the exterior of three houses on Realtor and have a look at the neighborhoods. Tonight, instead of dinner at the hotel, I plan to visit the local seafood parlor called the Tin Fish. Reservations are not mentioned on their site. I'll go over before it gets dark, and shouldn't have any trouble finding my way back.

It looks like in order to support the trip from Charleston to Dallas, then Corsicana in the Miata, an oil change, transmission drain/fill and serpentine belt change are in order.

Ken Curtis, the future Festus from Gunsmoke, was in The Searchers too. He did the cracked cornpone dialect so well and in so many roles, it comes as a terrific surprise to hear him speak in a role without it. Or to sing, which he does beautifully. It's like the first time I saw Jim Nabors sing on a variety show. I'd only known him as Gomer Pyle. But he stepped up in a tuxedo, opened his mouth, and out came "The Impossible Dream," and I was floored.

The YouTube link for the Minisforum mini-PC is by ETA Prime. I like his reviews, watched a lot of them when I was trying to pick a Mini-PC to buy. He isn’t flashy, or trying to be famous - all business, all the time.
He never even shows his face. All you see are his hands and hearing his radio announcer voice give you the lowdown on whatever he’s checking out. BTW, that HP Z2 Mini G1a is listed at $2163 on Amazon here in the States. It has a 1TB SSD and 64GB of RAM, which is plenty unless you’re trying to run AI models on it. I’m guessing the $5000 version must have the full 128GB RAM and two 4TB M.2 SSDs to get the price up that high. The chart on HotHardware showed it did well in Cinebench. It’s right behind top end desktop chips, a few with 5090s attached. Pretty good ranking for what’s essentially a power-efficient laptop chip with a mid-range GPU attached to it. If AMD can come down off that high price for the next generation(s) of these AI Max chips they could really grab a big share of the low to mid range PC gaming market by essentially selling a better version of a PlayStation with all the added PC functionality and also not being locked down by Sony to play games. I get the feeling I will be buying my first computer game in quite awhile. Ananta looks like way too much fun, it is GTA meets Saints Row meets Spiderman meets Yakuza meets about five other games.
One of the characters, though not the main one, is a dragon girl with pink hair named Ritchie. She is a cop. And yes you can arrest people, frisk, give them a drug test, make them breath into a breathalyzer, or simply let them go. Actually, Ananta is free to play and all the characters are unlockable through gameplay. Certain cosmetics, furniture, houses, and cars are purchasable. 7 minute trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMzzXYQ8zoQ Posted by: Anna Puma at September 27, 2025 06:50 AM (UfpLt) 55

@41/Village Idiot's Apprentice: "Is it safe to assume that people in his community are in the United States illegally?"
Maybe some, but others may be in the USA legally. For someone legal, if you don't have your I-9 and your passport on you at the moment that ICE decides you're potentially an illegal alien, and even if you do but they need to verify your documents, there's still the potential of things going pear-shaped. "Good enough for government work." That should sum that up. Being arrested and potentially deported is a huge fear of anyone working and living in the USA legitimately. I know, I was someone in that category. I carried my I-9 and my passport together on me much of the time. A non-citizen is REQUIRED to have those on him, even though that's not practical all of the time and there's the big fear of losing those documents. Most Americans fear the IRS because they can bankrupt you. Those of us who came to work under valid permits feared the INS (now USCIS and ICE) much more. The IRS could only bankrupt you. The INS could send you packing and separate you from your family with no way to get them home. That's terrifying. This is not a stress I miss. What exactly was the problem? - Couldn't see one or both drives? - Data error when copying? - Inability to put the partitions back exactly as they were? Was a super-new m.2 drive involved and maybe the version of CloneZilla you had couldn't access it properly? Did you go drive to drive directly, or use an image file on other storage media as an intermediary step? More details please? (I use CloneZilla and depend on it, so I'm really curious about this!) Local news says out electric grid is under extreme strain. Demand for power is up 83 percent. With the closure of all the local power plants whats to worry. I'm sure Kathy H. has the answer. After all she still supports net zero. Used to have 4 large coal and gas powered local generation plants until Chucky Schumer got them all closed down to save the planet. Upstate New Yorkers are blessed.

Humberto seems harmless, and will likely go back out to sea and bother Ireland next week.
But Imelda (currently Depression #9/Invest 94L) is being coy about where she’s headed and how big she’ll be. The current cone from the NHC has it curving away sometime Wednesday following Humberto. But we’ll still see a lot of rain, especially if Imelda stalls out before moving east across the Atlantic. I saw a forecast for 16” of rain over the next several days for Summerville on the news last night. I hope that number is way off. @68/m: "Thanks for the firsthand viewpoint and story."
Quite welcome. Ancient history for me too, my time in the USA was mid to late 90's and a bit of the early 00's. Despite the ever-present worry/concern, I had a really good time, met some wonderful people, and have a deep appreciation for just how amazing Americans are. This is why I bristle at all the anti-Americanism I see in the Canadian press. Are there problems with the trade-war spat our two countries are having? Sure there are. I'm really hoping those get sorted out because the animosity I'm seeing up here against Americans is disturbing. The Canadian press will gleefully engage in anti-American sentiment, because that's the old go-to that the Liberal Party whips up (and the media is firmly in bed with the left.) Why do they do this? To distract the citizenry from the fact that left-wing policies are what's causing most of the misery in their lives. It's an old trick and multiple governments in multiple countries have, and continue to use it. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at September 27, 2025 07:35 AM (O7YUW) 81

It's an old trick and multiple governments in multiple countries have, and continue to use it.
Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at September 27, 2025 07:35 AM (O7YUW) Trudeau was a master at it, just like his father (Pierre or Fidel, either one). That’s how he survived a decade and has brought misery on many Canadians that the complicit media up there hides, just like ours did with Obama & Biden. Carney seems to be getting away with a lot, too. But he doesn’t have the charisma or ability to lie and get away with it like Justin. The tariffs are not helping but Carney won’t budge on issues like the managed supply chain in dairy so negotiations go nowhere. I wish Canadians luck, but a large portion of the population needs to come to grips with what the Liberals have done to the country and vote for the Conservatives, and not according to what the CBC tells them to think. Lebanon, an affluent suburb of Pittsburgh, in a working-class family. His paternal grandfather changed the surname from "Chabenisky" to "Cuban" after his family emigrated from Russia through Ellis Island. His maternal grandfather was a Bessarabian Jewish immigrant and his maternal grandmother was from Lithuania. ------ Now, is any of that true? Fuck if I know. @94/SpeakingOf: And it isn't just the CBC. With the government shoveling money into every major Canadian media outlet, the masses are told exactly what the Liberals want them to believe.
You're right about the supply-side craziness involving what I've started calling "the dairy cartel". 9,256 dairy farms, all working under government production quotas, versus the rest of the economy that's being seriously hurt by the trade war and tariffs. These guys are small potatoes compared to the rest of the economy, and yet we keep protecting them. WHY? Votes? Get elected, scrap the dairy cartel's protections and quotas immediately upon getting into power, and in 4 years after the market has easily adjusted to a more free-market status (as what happened with dismantling the Canadian Wheat Board) it won't even be a blip on the political radar. So the only thing that really explains this is that the politicians are being paid off under the table to protect the status quo. Bribes. Liberals. "Shocker." @105/San Franpsycho: "A few days ago my hash started changing randomly."
Your ISP has probably started enforcing rotating IP addresses assigned via DHCP instead of just letting your router request "the same IP I got last time" in perpetuity. This usually happens when some residential customers start setting up servers on their network for the rest of the world to use. ISPs want you to pay for a business connection (at a substantially increased price) if you want to run servers. In addition to a policy in your TOU (terms of use), they also will change their DHCP server to force IP rotation every time your router goes to renew its DHCP lease. This adds "friction" to the process where customers are trying to get around the business-connection requirement for running servers. Some power-users set up servers on their connection as a hobby and really don't use much in the way of network resources, but they get caught up in this. Been there, had this happen. *sighs* Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at September 27, 2025 08:24 AM (O7YUW) 125

I used to get my news from the CBC since I live so close to the border. Never thought that they were biased until the last few years. Also listen to NPR a lot but now I am much more careful and can see how brain washing works. Repeat something often enough and it becomes a fact. Seldom cross the border anymore. Used to have the Nextpass, so it was easy to just drive across without hassle. But its not active anymore.

But you are dismissing all of the whites, Asians blacks, and Latinos who make money, send donations and start leftist organizations and movements. For some reason Jews get all the blame for what the entire left does together. Unless they’re right-wing Jews who are either ignored altogether or called Nazis for fighting for their own land for 80 years.
