If you've seen the declaration made by Van Jones about a text message he got from Charlie Kirk the day before the assassination, here's an overlooked framing of it that is very generous and (I think) on point:
Aelfred The Great @aelfred_D 15h One thing I like about this is the order. A lot of people on the other side will decry Kirk’s death, and then move on to their BUT of attacking him. Van Jones, on the other hand, starts with their opposition, and then moves to the BUT of appreciation. Posted by: m at September 22, 2025 04:37 AM (aURVT) 7

In her TED Talk at the top, von Petzinger describes this early system of communication through abstract signs as a precursor to the “global network of information exchange” in the modern world. “We’ve been building on the mental achievements of those who came before us for so long,” she says, “that it’s easy to forget that certain abilities haven’t already existed,” long before the formal written records we recognize. wut Posted by: m at September 22, 2025 04:49 AM (aURVT) 16

@AGHamilton29 7h The announcements by Canada, France, the UK, and Australia claiming to recognize a Palestinian state aren’t worth the paper they are printed on. These announcements all include caveats that don’t match reality. They are all supposedly predicated on Hamas not being in power, return of hostages, Palestinian recognition of Israel’s right to exist, settled borders, and eventual elections. But the states in question aren’t actually doing anything to contribute to the achievement of any of those conditions. Posted by: m at September 22, 2025 05:47 AM (aURVT) 40
What a dream . . . somehow I got stuck with custody of Joe Biden.
I was at a hotel somewhere, and I realized this creepy old guy in a suit was lost in the admin offices with me. Gradually I also realized this was Biden the US president. Nobody was looking for him. I led him out, only to find that everybody he had come with had left not only the hotel but the city. Yes; they had neglected to take along Creepy Joe. I expected there to be some news -- "President Missing!" -- but no. I took him along to a pay phone I knew in town. It had been removed. So I had to wait to use a business line, and called person-to-person to the White House for "Mr. Donald Rumsfeld." (Don't ask me why.) And . . . I got put on hold. Then I woke up. In other words, things she could have mentioned much earlier when I said, "Want me to bring you something back from Indiana?" The adult and human response would have been, "No, but I'd like it if . . ." But no. So I went to bed irritated and later than I planned. Grrrr.

Tech companies spend about a quarter of their time these days just thinking about where, and how big they can go with placing an ad before they piss enough people off that it loses them more money than it earns.
It’s a delicate balancing act. YouTube, for example, has decided that their smart TV viewers should see an add that takes up the entire top half of the TV as soon as you log in. They’ve also decided that people watching livestreams occasionally need an ad pushed in from the side covering half the screen and turning off the audio from the livestream so you can hear the ad audio. That was a bold choice, I’ll give them that. Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 22, 2025 06:27 AM (6ydKt) 67

I don’t mind advertising on websites or anywhere else, but the way they are done is just rancid. Particularly discussion forums, I gravitated to those early on the web. Whether car repair or music, or history, sports, they work best for me.
Many of them became completely unusable in recent years, especially on smart devices or cell phones. They just plaster them all over making the screen unreadable. Popup videos. And advertisements wholly unrelated to the subject matter as well as the demographic. I don’t see how they make any money, as I no longer visit the website at all, and make a mental note never to buy a product from anyone that hijacks my computer device. Posted by: m at September 22, 2025 06:07 AM (aURVT) To me it was painfully obvious as he said it. First the tone; he’s using his haha isn’t this funny type storytelling style, completely inappropriate at a memorial like this one; then by saying “2000 years ago” he directly compared Kirk to Christ. Kirk was a great man; but even he would have said “whoah, too far there”. But Tucker’s not a believer, so he doesn’t know. And worst, he said that Charlie’s murderer was just the same as these “men sitting around eating hummus” who brought about Christ’s death. In other words, Charlie’s killer was just like a Jew. Everyone in that stadium got it. They were polite, but stayed quiet. It was at best a completely tone deaf remark. Add to that the bullshit that Candace and her pals have been spreading the last week, and it was downright offensive. Posted by: Tom Servo at September 22, 2025 06:48 AM (5Gg6R) 95

First the tone; he’s using his haha isn’t this funny type storytelling style, completely inappropriate at a memorial like this one
Posted by: Tom Servo at September 22, 2025 06:48 AM (5Gg6R) I saw a clip of that part. Tucker has gotten quite annoying with that manic laugh if his when he says something that he thinks is obviously truth and anybody might disagree with. It was a fine move on Fox when he was going toe to toe with a lefty and Tucker wanted to laugh at some ridiculous position they were taking but now he uses that laugh on anybody who thinks his position is nuts. I don’t think Tucker is an atheist, though. I don’t know what he is now, but he has brought up being a former Episcopalian many times. Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 22, 2025 06:58 AM (6ydKt) 109

Totally wrong and beyond inappropriate for Tucker to bring that up at the memorial.
Posted by: Tom Servo at September 22, 2025 07:02 AM (5Gg6R) I think Tucker’s point was that Charlie and Jesus were both murdered (by ‘’them’ ![]() But considering it’s coming from Tucker, the ‘them’ could be construed just as you’re interpreting it, and Tucker knows that, so he’s being sneakily provocative at a memorial. Meanwhile, Candace is over in her corner saying Trump is controlled by the Zionists because she didn’t get an invite to speak at the funeral. It’s Kookoo for Cocoa Puffs with those two over that past year. Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 22, 2025 07:11 AM (6ydKt) 121
