  • There isn't an AI bubble. There are three separate and distinct AI bubbles all happening at the same time. (Fast Company)

As the article explains, there's an asset bubble, an infrastructure bubble, and a hype bubble, and while they all interact and reinforce each other, you need to examine them separately to try to figure out what is really going on.

Yes, generative AI CEOs are all lying to you, but how much does that matter if you're not an investor?

As to how much value will remain when the bubbles burst, I don't know. If I knew that I'd still be rich from the last bubble.

13 If we're going to go down the conspiracy rabbit hole, let's explore the possibility AI has already won.

There's no way to put the genie back in the toothpaste toob.

These kids today have figured out they don't have to think, they just have to let AI do all the thinking for them, so nobody's going to know anything in about 30 years.

14 I got the front sway bar drop links installed in the P-2 S-60 yesterday.

Having now done this several times over the lives of both vehicles, it went rather smooth, and only took about an hour.

Suddenly, the last of the front suspension rattles, clunks and other various noises have gone silent.

And then....we got a gully washer of a rain storm, with an inch of rain in about 10 minutes.

I think this is the crux of the problem a lot of people have with how our current "justice" department is operating. There are a lot of folks who want some scores to be settled, and there seems to be a shedload of evidence out there.

Whether any of it is clean enough to take to court, that's not making it any easier for many to not look at how this is going, and say "They're just going to cover it up, like they always do."

Then we're asked to be patient. Well, fine. But is it all going to lead anywhere? Are people going to be held accountable? If not, then f**k you, and your civility, and your trying to distract us with other shit you're doing, which ends up just looking like routine status quo.

It's hard not to be cynical. You see what you see, you know what you know, and nobody in positions to do something about it ever do.

And then we're told to be patient, or we're just supposed to vote harder for the people who will make it all better.

I usually buy off the Discogs website. They seem to have everything you can imagine listed... if it exists. Which, some stuff doesn't.

What strikes me as odd, is seeing Yootoob comments, where people will say they can't find a particular song anywhere else. Well, yeah. Some songs, but what they're really saying is it's been dropped from Spotify.

Just buy a damn CD, you weirdo kids. Then you own it. They can't take it from you.

Amazing the difference those things make! Stabilizer links and bushings replacement is one of the most frequent jobs I do after brakes and oil changes. My road destroys them. I have occasionally thought I must have several things in about-to-fall-off condition in the front end, replace stabilizer links and bushings, and the rattles stop. Now Jeep Cherokee death wobble on the other hand...still working on that one.

One of those things you have to be careful about. Especially with musicians, there are accusations of "sex offenses," and sometimes that means there were groupies when the musician was in the midst of a career that attracted them.

So then 20 or more years later, some broad comes forward and says "I was 16 at the time."

I'm sorry. You shouldn't have been out there, but this is the real world. Rock stars are not checking IDs.

Or they weren't, maybe they do now.

There's an old story out there, about circus elephants. They capture the elephants (one way or another) when the elephants are young, then put a chain around the leg of the beast, and around a tree.

The elephant fights and fights against the chains, but the circus master knows how much chain to use, how big a tree.

Eventually the elephant grows big and strong, and the chains get no bigger, because the elephant has been trained. Its chains are now it the beast's head, so you can remove the chain entirely, and it will still stand, docile and compliant, next to the tree.

The other thing about the Western is that it is first cousin to the hardboiled crime story. It's why Elmore Leonard was able to move so easily from Westerns to the crime novels, and why Loren D. Estleman still writes both.

I actually prefer Leonard's Westerns, including the movie adaptations (see Hombre), to his crime stories.

There’s an ad they keep playing on YouTube about car insurance that I’m 99% certain is AI-generated.

It’s some big white guy with a mic attached to his face (the over ear kind) on a stage in front of a screen with the gnarliest flag which, apparently, is a combination of the U.S. flag with the SC palmetto flag, it’s just weird - that’s the first clue.

Then the camera is on the audience and every face it focuses on has the same mic attached to their heads.

Then it shows some chart on the screen behind the guy and it shows SC has the highest insurance rate in the nation, but the outline of the state looks like a state I’ve never seen before, it looks more like NC or Virginia and nothing like triangular-shaped SC.

Weirdest thing I’ve ever seen trying to be passed off as real.

I’m certain they generated an ad for every state just changing the flag and the name of the state when the guy says it - and YouTube serves the ad for each state based on your IP location.

115 DVD-R drives that do CD-Rom and CD-R format are available and cheap. Get one for your computer.

On Windows, EAC (Exact Audio Copy) will allow you to rip a CD to a digital format exactly. FLAC is lossless. 320 bit MP3 (encoded with LAME) is almost perfect but is still lossless.

Buy the CD and rip it. You own your media, and have the license to use/play. You have convenient digital files to use on your devices.

Like vinyl records to reel-to-reel tape, or dual deck cassette players used to save your original and play the heck out of a copy (or a mix tape), FLAC and MP3 files are the modern equivalent.

The music industry hates this because they can't keep re-selling you the same music in ever-shifting formats. Too bad for them, you don't have to play their game if you don't want to.

The music and movie industries' rental (streaming) business model does bring convenience and a huge library of media, until it doesn't. It's a valid choice, just be aware it's not a "forever" thing because they lease licenses to content too, and won't hold those in perpetuity. No license = no right to provide it to you.

It’s a “nice to have” kind of thing.

But I’m not even sure of that.
You could hold the base with a few thousand troops.

But then they’d be sitting ducks out there in the middle of nowhere. So as soon as it’s attacked, and you know it will be eventually, we’re right back to putting more troops in to protect the base.

It’s in a strategically important area, but is it worth it for the cost?

148 @129/NaCly Dog: "Hope routes and kids are all settling out into a smooth ride."

I have a double-route. First route has little to no problems. Second route (in the afternoon when the boys are getting out of school and have been cooped up all day): Problems. Not unmanageable, but sometimes? "Wow. Seriously? Stop it." I've had to yell at them a few times to express my intense displeasure with their on-going ass-hattery.

Standard nonsense is "sit down when the bus is in motion", "Do not stick your head, arms, or legs out the window, not even fingers, yes, seriously" (Then I explain with the "a branch hits the bus as we drive by" explanation), "Do not roughhouse with each other on my bus"...

It'll smooth out (mostly) more as time goes on. There will always be issues, because boys are going to be boys, and girls are going to be girls by egging them on and then ratting them out afterwards. I hope the boys will catch on to this sooner rather than later as it's a good lesson in life about who you want to be friends with, or become involved with.

They're grade school kids. *sighs* I miss my high school run from last year; pleasant kids who quietly used their phones.

It isn't about doing good at all. It's about actively trying to throw sand in the gears for the Jewish people in Israel because of raw visceral hatred. The alleged 'Palestine' area has immediate physical proximity, Africa doesn't.

There's a lot of people in the west who throw accusations of being Nazis at others, while believing similarly to the actual Nazis of recent history, and sometimes acting like them.

This isn't going away anytime soon, or easily. Something about spiritual warfare being the larger driver here.

159 I remember one field trip as a kid where we got some period of weightlessness after launching over a railroad crossing. It was awesome. It never happemed again, sadly.

Why, or how is it we have to bundle up our kids like Astronauts with car seats in our private rides, but a School Bus doesn’t even have seat belts??

AI Bubble will burst when, like 5G, AI proves to have some real but limited benefits. ie. it won't "change the world'.

165 @149/NaCly Dog: "Please join me in the front."

Might work though it would have to be rows 2, 3 or 4. Row 1 is already dedicated to some individuals per the request of the school's teachers.

"And singing. Singing works."

Not sure my nerves will stand that one, but ... it might work. I use a music player with tracks stored on a Micro-SD card to play music for the kids which they seem to like. I'm still trying to filter down to energetic enough, but not too much, while not being snoozer toons that the kids will hate.

I'm already filtering out any song that has inappropriate subject matter or language. (Man there's a lot of songs I like that I just can't play, and these got plenty of radio play in my time, too.)

Thinking of going back in time to draw from singers like Frank Sinatra, just to mix up the energy, timing, and pace. ("Luck be a lady tonight", "New York New York", etc...)

I simply do not understand the "intelligence" part of this AI thing. It's an iteration of computing power, nothing more. We, ourselves, can't explain consciousness. So I dont see how we could bestow it.

171 We're nowhere near the bursting of the AI bubble, it may burst but it's not going to burst until there's nothing left to squeeze out of it.

AI is really in it's infancy, so probably sometime in the early to mid 30's is when you may see some pandemonium.

173 @159/Common Tater: "Why, or how is it we have to bundle up our kids like Astronauts with car seats in our private rides, but a School Bus doesn’t even have seat belts??"

I happened to ask that question just the other day of a retired safety officer at a bus company who had a really good answer.

Jammed belts in an emergency "evacuate" the bus incident. Imagine trying to get kids safely away from a point of damage or danger on a bus (like a fire) and they're all panicking and pulling against their belts and locking them. Now you have to use the belt cutter and cut 50 to 70 belts, which takes time you may not have.

Buses are considered one of the safest vehicles because of how much mass they have, as well as re-enforcement for the passengers. The newer tall seatbacks are meant to break-forward in a serious frontal collision which acts as a cushion to the forward momentum coming to that "sudden stop". The external black bars you see down a bus are bolted on extra re-enforcement at the feet, seat, and top of the seat levels to protect kids.

So, seatbelts are actually not necessary in view of the other measures, and may add to danger levels if used. Not what I expected.

It's organic, and youthful, and masculine.

Never a truer statement, the but reality, and misdirection of what AI really is and why it will never go away is that it enables the full voluntary disclosure and inventory that the Deep State has lusted for for so long. Do you think these t hings just happen because it's kool?

Why ask why when how is so much more fun?
