[Desired Coffee Mug H/T:Quarter Twenty]

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival there are a number of housekeeping matters to go over today. (Rulz for those of you in Grantsburg)

1. This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2. A frightening story about the evils of coffee.
3. Be kind, be nice. Even douchebags troubled souls need warmth.
4. No. Are you nuts? No! You can't run with sharp objects here!!!!
5. Have a great weekend!

*****

Mary, Margaret, Karen, whatever your name is, WE DON'T CARE!!!!!

Seven ways your coffee habit could be ruining your health, from digestion to cholesterol
Your daily caffeine hit may be doing more harm than good – but there are steps you can take to fix it

I bet she's a hoot at cocktail parties.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

8/25 – Grammie Winger posted that Rev is doing well, but she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer last week.
9/6 Update – grammie winger sent her love and how much the Horde has meant to her over the years. She said her time is being measured in days and weeks now, and that soon she will go to that place that Jesus has prepared for her. She said she will miss the group so much.

8/25 – BurtTC is dealing with a family matter and could use some prayers.
9/4 Update – BurtTC’s mother passed away. BurtTC asked for prayers for her family, who suffering the loss. Her soul is safe and at peace in heaven.

8/28 - Grumpy and Recalcitrant asks for prayers for Pixy Misa, who runs the morning tech thread. Pixy has been suffering from edema (water retention and swelling of the extremities). In addition to the swelling, there has been significant pain in both feet, and now one hand. Please pray that the doctors and nurses take this problem seriously. Pray that God guides their minds and hands in the diagnostic and treatment processes, so that Pixy may be restored to full health. Pray that He sustains Pixy through this health trial.
9/13 Update – Pixy Misa posted that he is hugely improved. Between the BP medication and the skin cream, he reports being almost back to normal. He only noticed the problem now while climbing stairs, and then its just stiffness rather than actual pain.

9/5 – Inogame requested continued prayers for his wife. It seems like they may have two blessings on the way, not just one, since there seems to be a second heartbeat. In a few weeks they will know for sure. He asks for prayers that they be doubly blessed if the Lord wills it.

9/5 – Teresa in Fort Worth gave an update that she was very ill (throwing up), and was going to spend a day or two at the hospital while they figure out what is going on (and give her IVs due to dehydration). It doesn’t seem to be related to the cancer.
9/7 Update – Teresa still cannot keep solid food down. The CT scan showed something odd (metallic) in her stomach, so she will have an MRI on 9/8.

9/6 – Tbodie sent an update on a son, who has pancreatic cancer at age 36. He just finished his sixth round of chemo. Please pray that the family will know that God is in control and that the son and daughter-in-law will know He is there for them.

9/6 – “Perfessor” Squirrel sent his thanks to the Horde for their prayers over the past few weeks, as he went through a difficult time at work. He announced he will be moving to a new job (at the same university) on 9/22. It will be similar work as before, but a different boss, and that is good.

9/6 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for Sophia, age 12, who was still fighting for her life with a bullet in her brain after the trans school shooting in MN.

9/7 – Moki would be grateful for prayers for a nephew who just had a heart attack. He is 54 years old, and has 3 kids under age 5.

9/7 – GWB requested prayers for a neighbor who is suffering after multiple back surgeries and in a LOT of pain.

9/9 – Pookysgirl asked for prayers as Pooky has a procedure to hollow out his prostate on 9/23. They are not sure of the long-term implications of his acute kidney injury, but his kidneys are recovering. God has worked miracles to keep Pooky with them in the past, as an answer to many, many prayers.
9/13 Update – Pookysgirl reported that Pooky is on the mend. His kidneys are recovering, he is sleeping better, he has been more confident interacting with the kids. Prayers of thanks!

9/11 – D sent an update for Susan, his wife, and her battle with cancer: Thank you, everyone, again for your prayers for Susan. Her cancer markers went down at the last Dr visit, but she is back to having abdominal pain that is making it hard to eat right. They are trying to get her weight up and thank God for the good days they do have. The really good news is that she is able to walk around again without the fear of falling over.

9/11 – Annie’s Stew asks for prayers of comfort for Charlie Kirk’s family (first and foremost), prayers for this country as we all grieve, and that God would reveal His will for us, as we move forward as individuals and as a country.

9/11 – Kindletot requested prayers for a friend named Wendy, who was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. Please pray for healing and reassurance. Wendy is afraid of chemo, which hurt her friend as much as the cancer did.

9/13 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her daughter KTE to fully recover from the stomach bug that she has been suffering through.

9/18 – Taylor, who is a family friend, reported that Witchdoctor took his own life last week.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

13 I am learning to drink coffee without any creamer. This is a big change to me, one of several to improve my health as I look forward to may second anniversary of turning 29 (still a ways off, tho).

I've never liked coffee. I like the smell, but when it came to drinking it, I followed the lead of the late Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson of the Tuskegee Airmen: "I like coffee with my cream and sugar."

But sugar is no longer my friend, and so I'm drinking flavored coffees black. They are a lot like tea, something you sip. I'm getting used to it.

I had a follow up appointment with my orthopedist regarding my knee and he ordered treatment with hyaluronic acid. He said that it would be either one big shot or three shots over three weeks depending on my insurance plan.

I found out that it's going to be three. How does that save them money?

I discovered this absolutely delightful single-origin coffee from Sulawesi. It replaces certain lots from Yemen that were my formerly my Go-To..

People who dope their coffees with pollutants like cream and sugar would never enjoy any of this.

The Karens have to beat off coffee with vague warnings because there is no observable problem with drinking it. Yes, I guess you can tear up your stomach, but that's almost always influenced by too much booze or a terrible diet, smoking and/or stress. So they have to come up with convoluted reasons to scold you.

I suppose the question must arise: If I don't like coffee that much, why drink it? Well, it does wake one up and seems to have health benefits.

I love all the people who are so super smart that they know what is going on behind the scenes.

No one in this administration shoots from the hip. No one. Bondi's statements were crafted with great care, and you see it in her delivery of them. She is stirring the pot. She dropped the Epstein binders to change the subject from the fake constitutional crisis regarding Maryland Man and the first wave of injunctions. It worked.

She dropped the hate speech reference to force the left to suddenly become free speech absolutists, and they walked right into the trap.

Why did she do that? Because they are going to gut all the hate crime b.s. once and for all, and throw it back in the Dems' faces. Burning a rainbow flag can't be a hate crime because hate speech is free speech.

It amazes me how few people can see what she is doing.

62 Why drink coffee? Well, there's the reanimating and vivifying effects of the blessed beans. There's the cheerful gurgle and hiss as the machine brews it. There's that heavenly aroma. There's the pause to select the perfect mug for this morning's serving. And then you officially reintegrate into society -- slowly -- with that first sip.

Yikes.

So he gives them Bondi. Most of her work is behind the scenes, so people scream that she needs to be replaced, but of course no one has any idea who this newer, better person is, they just imagine that there is one out there.

Compare her with any other GOP AG, however, and you see that she could take a dump on live TV and still be better than all of them put together.

Of course this means I will be helping them move the rest of it. They've been bringing stuff in for a few weeks now and today they're bringing the last of it. Got family, trucks and trailers.... It should be a one trip deal.

This is very exciting for the kids, for me and Hubbymayhem, and especially for both of my sisters in law. Why, you may ask, are my brothers wives so happy? One owns the house the kids were renting and can now sell it. The other has a sister who has been living with them for two fucking years and will now be buying that house and moving the fuck out. 119 I had an interesting conversation with my father last night. My stepmother has been in hospice for about three months with dementia and she no longer talks. He visits her every day at dinner time and spoon feeds here. She recently slept through dinner, but was awake to eat yesterday, and cleaned her plate.

He told me he's been reading about dementia, Alzheimer's and hospice, and that the baseline for hospice is six months. I mentioned that dementia is non-linear, and can pick up speed. My mother's father suffered from it, had to be put into the home (he'd go driving to his old house and yell at the people there), and died almost immediately.

It was a somber conversation, but a sign he's accepting the situation. I said that I have no particular expertise, but that what will likely happen is that she will fall asleep at some point and that will be that. He agreed. He's very stoic, the least emotional person I know, so he didn't seem upset, just wanting to understand. On the plus side, we talk more than ever, which is a blessing. He's also free to drive up and see us more often, and it's easier for us to visit him and help him organize the house.

Nothing in general. But year-long heat and humidity are things I'm trying to flee, as are hurricanes. And everything I've read suggests the state's housing market, thanks to East Coasters fleeing down, is insanely overpriced.

On the other hand, my oldest friend lives in Clearwater and likes it, and in twenty years has never had a hurricane strike. (Doesn't mean there won't be one next year, though.)

Romans 7 :15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

My story also sister. Every. Single. Day.

But eventually I decided the kcups were too expensive and cleaning the reusable cup was s hassle so when it finally broke for good I didn't replace it.

I have a regular drip coffee maker at the moment and to make it as strong as I like I use espresso grind in it.

She doesn't drink. I suggested getting some raspberry vodka and spiking her seltzer with it--it would go down easy, and take the edge off the pain. She's warming up to the idea.

Downside would be, she already has balance trouble, which is why she falls in the first place, so she would need someone to hold on to her every time she stood up to do anything. But I can do that.

er caffeine intake linked to better cognitive function in older U.S. adults, study finds | Eric W. Dolan, PsyPost

Older adults who consume more caffeine may be less likely to experience cognitive decline, according to a new population-based study using U.S. health survey data. The findings suggest that higher levels of caffeine intake are associated with improved cognitive functioning, particularly in domains related to memory and attention.

Sad to say that we brought this upon ourselves. Christians in the 1990s decided that talk of hell and sin was off-putting and so everything became about love, and mercy and forgiveness, meeting people "where they are" and wearing jeans to church.

The highest good was of course making perverts feel welcome, normalizing their perversion and re-writing sacred scripture to legitimize it. We can now see just how badly "Nice Christianity" failed. We must return to the older form.

Sad to say that the Catholic Church is shot through with 1970s-minded bishops who spouted endlessly about a fentanyl addict dying but have nary a word to see about a Christian being assassinated in front of his family - right after a Catholic church as shot up by yet another enraged tranny.

I give Pope Leo a pass, because he does not want to box himself into offering running commentary on American politics the way his predecessor did. I don't think people appreciate the magnitude of the task before him to straighten things out.

Here again we see the same people demanding immediate arrests despite the fact that building actual cases takes time. Biden's (and Obama's) dragnets were fast but ultimately failed most of the time. The J6 thing was only possible because of corrupt judges that Trump simply does not have.

So in addition to building the case, one has to find a venue that avoids the DC jury pool. This leads to delay, but I think that's a good thing in the long run because it leads the perps to think they are getting away with it, so they do even worse stuff.

To put it another way, other AGs may have had better messaging, gave great speeches, and did nothing meaningful to solve problems. I'll take Bondi's 'gaffes' in exchange for convictions and mass deportations.

263 An encouraging thought for the day: the great majority of people who are seemingly all-in on the left are really just people seeking status. They perceived the left as dominant and they joined hoping to share that status.

It is now becoming clear that the left is losing that status, and the social calculus is changing. A great many of those people will quietly delete or purge their accounts and try to pretend none of that happened. Humans are very susceptible to peer pressure, and when it changes direction, so do they.

I note that the Tesla terrorists are now extinct. It did not take much to make that happen. There will be additional acts of violence on the part of the true fanatics, but their support is going to disappear rapidly as the costs continue to increase.

270 Yeah, mea culpa. Distilled isn’t the right description.

We don’t want to run hard water with lots of carbonates and lime through coffee makers. Vinegar won’t do much of anything that I’ve ever noticed. It’s the same problem that water heaters have, scale and sediment reduce the temperature as well. That’s one reason the Bunn type makers stop making good coffee over time using hard water, the holding tank is full of scale, and won’t get the water hot enough.

A good "tell" on these fake MAGA types is when they whine about using the left's "framing." Why not? Why not turn their language against themselves?

Living as I do in a liberal college town, I have found the most effective ways to reach liberals is to use their language. It forces them to really think, and often can cause them to glitch as they try to reconcile it with their worldview.

Security is multi-layered. Of course there is the physical security of the grounds. The more common dangers are kids on skateboards or loose dogs in the parking lot that can harass church members. Some idiot kids were playing with a drone and flew one into the window, destroying both.

Others are, does you church ministry have outreach to the LGBT community? Are any of the younger single women in the church dating, or have recently separated from "If I can't have her, nobody can" sort of "men"? What is your assmbley's relative access to quick exfill?

It ain't just walking the parking lots with a radio and sport jacket during service.

State law allows for permit holders to carry in churches with the permission of the pastor, so there will be some tactical ambiguity in play.

The key element is to establish presence and increase situational awareness. We know the shooters seek vulnerable targets, so (potentially armed) men roaming around will fulfill that function.

Directly after the next slaying, Trump should move decisively, and run the Kirov Play. I think he could get away with it. Every important Leftist gets packed off to a prison camp, the rest remain silent for the remainder of their regrettable lives, and we can begin the process of fixing all the damage they've done. I've known of it as the Kirov Affair.

I think this is why one of the first cards they play is a form of False Flag. That is, from the very beginning they have framing Trump's actions as a setup for executing The Great Purge. This is a fundamental reason behind them getting behind the CK assassination as a crypto MAGA Deep Red on Red attack.

The Kirov Affair has been seen by historians as Staling orchestrating the assassination so he can eliminate rivals and justify crackdowns.

I find it interesting that for this set-up they have chosen Hitler rather than Stalin as reincarnated in Trump.

It also appears there is less opportunity for young men for normal sex lives now more than ever. Thirty year old virgins, long-term celibacy, men reporting being in relationships at roughly half the amount as women. Sexual access has been increasingly cut off and made impossible for a lot of men. The question is then where does that hardwiring find an outlet?

There's the pause to select the perfect mug for this morning's serving. And then you officially reintegrate into society -- slowly -- with that first sip.

The factors in our favor: they have very weak organization. Secret levels exist, of course but not in a direct command and control way. That can be disrupted. Next, their foot soldiers are insane - murderously so, but still insane. That makes them self destructive, and repellent to most people. 3rd factor; they no longer have any coherent plans left. They thought they had a good one, but it’s falling apart, and none of them know how to react.

359 The Candy Owens thing goes like this

Charlie was about to turn on Israel. Bill Ackman tried to stop him. Charlie said no I will not be intimidated.

Then he was killed for disobeying.

Cool story except here’s no evidence of that whatsoever other than Charlie and Bill met in August. But who needs evidence when there’s a cool “Jews run the world” theory to be pushed.

Tucker jumped on the story because well Tucker. He’s just a 9/11 truther lunatic now. Jews are responsible for every bad thing on the planet. Tim Dillon is on the Saudi payroll so he said I’m willing to listen (even though he’s not stupid enough to actually push the idea).

Others like Fuentes are like wait hold on a sec. We hate the Jews but dude come on let’s not become a parody of ourselves here. We can’t blame them for EVERYTHING. Because then nobody will take us seriously anymore.

So there’s this fight going on between those two camps.

On the entire executive team there is only one white man, and he is retiring at the end of the year. Further, looking at the hires and promotions over the past six months it appears white men are very underrepresented.” Then I really channel Alexthechick and I quote her: “You need to tell me if this training is a condition of my employment. But before you answer, consider that our CEO has a growth strategy that relies on revenue. My work portfolio accounts for 27% of total company revenue and is our single largest portfolio. I’ve never had a complaint about the way I treat people in my section. But if this is a condition of my employment then I’m sure my talents would be appreciated elsewhere."

Even though it's not publicized, we have security at our church. Our pastor is an uncommonly sensible fellow.

Here's the danger, as I see it. We have six (6) Sunday Masses. Some are quite close and there's a good-sized crowd waiting for the previous one to end. Those, I think, are most at risk.

The word "groyper" originates as an internet meme depicting a chubby, green, frog-like character — essentially a variant or relative of the more famous Pepe the Frog meme — often shown in a smug, contemplative pose with its chin resting on interlocked fingers. This illustration first appeared around 2015 on platforms like 4chan and gained traction in 2017 as an exploitable avatar among far-right and alt-right online communities.

The etymology of the term itself is unclear and debated, with popular theories suggesting it's a blend of "goy" (a Yiddish term for a non-Jew, often used pejoratively in antisemitic contexts) and "griper" (someone who complains), or possibly onomatopoeic for a toad's croak (like "groyp"). Less substantiated ideas include alterations of "grope" or references to the videogame Frogger.

In modern usage, "groyper" has evolved to primarily refer to members of a loose, far-right political movement known as the "Groyper Army," led by white nationalist Nick Fuentes.

Yeah, anarchists are too stupid to see they are next on the list after the mohamadans kill off Jews and Christians.

417 I don't know that Mary Todd Lincoln was crazy. It's kind of hard to diagnose mental illness over 150 years after the fact. Maybe she was just very highly strung and life events did nothing to help with that:

She was high-strung and high-maintenance. But she went full batshit crazy after the assassination, which I can see since she was sitting right next to her husband when he was murdered. Then, her son Tad died young, too. Her only surviving son, Robert, did have her committed for a time.

418 We're in Knoxville visiting relatives along with what appears to be 400,000 Tennessee Vols fans. The coffee at the hotel was undrinkable. The coffee at the relatives was delicious.

420 We're about as far east in EDT/EST as you can get. Drive a few miles west and we're in CDT/CST. This actually plays havoc with GPS enabled apps and, interesting, our streaming service. Especially when it thinks we're in CDT and the content I want to watch is on "now" but it's not available for another hour.

422 So what's happened to the 20 to 30 people in the Discord group that seemed to have prior knowledge of the assassination?

Warrants?
Arrests?
Anyone?
Anyone?

Bueller?

Investigating and solving crime is hard. Yoinking old ladies for a flickering rear plate light is easy and makes money.

He seemed like a genuinely interesting guy. We were both ex-Navy, too, though in wildly different fields, so I thought it would be cool to have some Navy talk with him.

Now I'll never have to chance to get to know him better.

Likely interviews with the FBI. You can be "in a group" but also not have any idea what the nutter was talking about, let alone what its intentions were.

Or perhaps you do. But either way the FBI has to make the case with what info is available.

428 Suicide is very very sad. I admit I don’t understand it at all… don’t understand depression at all. I have family members prone to deep depression and they’ve tried to explain to me but it was futile… I’m naturally cheerful and optimistic. Just born that way I guess…. Survival seems like the strongest of the natural instincts. Very sad…. Life is too short to begin with

When you're clinically depressed life is way too long. It's like you're serving a sentence.

434 5 Good morning good people.

This hotel does not have coffee available in the lobby and the stuff they provide in the room is terrible. And I routinely drink garbage coffee.
-----
When traveling, I've taken to bringing foldgers instant granules along. I like the flavor, and use it to augment the universally awful hotel room coffee. Still not great coffee, but an improvement. Enough to get me to the lobby for probably mediocre but better coffee.
