Harold "Lally" Stott wrote and recorded the song and it flopped in the UK. That's where Middle of the Roads comes in; they recorded their own version and it became a UK hit. Oddly, the Stott version was a minor hit in Europe and in Australia. Apparently for one week in Australia.
Here is a video of Harold cutting it up with his version of the song. His stage production values are decidedly worse. Totally fun selection Pixy. https://youtu.be/EVnVB7p8kQY Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at September 16, 2025 05:03 AM (aJQjq) 14

Evening and morning to all toiling and/or trying to wake up, as Tiu's Day either crawls to a close or tries to vault over the horizon! (Amazes me, it does, that I can come up with this sort of stuff when I'm still not technically awake.)
I'm up early, from a pleasant dream. The personnel department at the place where I worked had been eavesdropping on office conversations and somebody took offense to my making a joke like "What the fuque?" on a street name like "Dufuque." In my dream, I told the office busybody, "Is *this* what they pay you for?" and walked out three days early for my retirement. Heh, heh, heh. Jakaranda
Harold "Lally" Stott https://youtu.be/OvUbKjGJyqw This is his other well-known song. The lyrics though it has a rather upbeat feel, it turns out to be quite a tragedy. Jakaranda always wanted to see the congo Cassa baby always played on his little bongo And all his friends would look at him and smile https://is.gd/iWv9O9 Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at September 16, 2025 05:14 AM (aJQjq) 21

Trump has sued Wall Street Journal for 10 billion over that fake Epstein birthday card.
Not wanting the New York Times to feel lonely and neglected, he's suing them for 15 billion over defamation, I am interpreting this part as he thinks they're a bunch of shits, and for acting as a mouthpiece for the Democrat party. And the beat goes on. The New York Times in particular deserves every bit of this. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at September 16, 2025 05:25 AM (aJQjq) 28

Morning, all. 57 degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor, with a high in the low 70s predicted. A good 2-3 hours' worth of work ahead of me.
Thought I had finished the first draft of my novel this weekend, but another look revealed that there's still a lot to write. Not depressing per se, but disheartening. Speaking of which, I think I may be leaving AoS for a while again - lots of depression, hatred of the current news and a cynical belief that all the anger and resolve of the last few days is simply going to fade away. I don't want to vomit out my sick view of things, so I won't. I do see via Insty that Gabe showed his ass to the world, though. Odd that I feel pretty clear-headed despite having only about five hours' sleep. Maybe there is a connection. But I don't want to go to bed at eleven and get up at four every day, or stay up til midnight either.
I ran a lot of errands yesterday, and had time as well to map out my travel routes to and from Indiana and locate a bunch of truck stops (including a Buc-ees!) along the Interstates. Also a Walmart close to where I'll be staying in Evansville. I dread packing, as I know I'll forget something I'll have to buy when I get there. Funny, but there are no Exxon gas stations in Evansville. Guess I'll have to use my Shell card. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 16, 2025 05:33 AM (omVj0) 35
I spent yesterday starting out all the cheap APS-C third-party camera lenses available for my Sony a6400 and then educating myself about them in detail. They're very sexy.
What one can get for under $600 and in many cases under $300 and in a lot of other cases $200 is mind-blowing. A number of $500ish lenses are every bit as good, sometimes better, as the $1,000+ Sony branded lenses. As for the two $250 lenses I have already bought, they're only about 95% as good; I know what you're thinking, I got ripped off. RE: "Tea, Earl Grey, hot," I've been watching the very earliest TNG episodes. They were still feeling their way in those days, trying to set themselves apart from the original. Picard was tougher and less avuncular than he became, for instance, and there seemed to be no chief engineer for the ship (except for Brooke Bundy's "McDougal" in one very early story). But, as I recall from seeing them new, they tried hard to address shortcomings in the original -- not having the captain risk his neck by leaving the ship in every episode, and actually following the Prime Directive.

My “favorites” online grocery list has a bunch of vegetables listed. It starts out correctly, then devolves. Not as bad as internet search engines, getting close.
eBay sewrch used to be pretty good. Not any lomger. The classic is when searching for specific parts, say for a car or a dishwasher or whatever. If I need a set of sparkplugs for a Toro lawnmower, head gaskets for a diesel truck really don’t have much utility. “Here’s a bunny with a pancake on its head”. Being very poor in math in HS, I would have drawn down the class average of math while in school. Didn't have any real math, (business math I wasn't qualified for any college to tech school. But I did fiend that NYC Tech would except me, and off I went to the big apple. Did much better in college in math (good teacher) and went on to graduate. Joined a research institute where math was in full focus and I went on from there.. So poor math scores in highschools doesn't bother me much as I know some students do better after HS, or learn to rob convenience stores.

As for the utility of math teachers, i had the same man for all four years of HS math. He was a great teacher and had become the head football coach by the time I graduated. He was one of the best teachers that I had at that school. For my senior year he was paired up with another man to "team teach". The rumors were strong that the guy was getting it on with the shrill woman who taught business math. Both were married. Well done, good and faithful servants! Finally, there was one math teacher who worked summers as an independent contractor doing brick and mortar construction work. I did not think much of him at that time, but now I admire his willingness to have engaged in and earned wages performing a practical skill. I can still go find the single story commercial building upon which he worked whenever I return to my home town. Posted by: m That last sentence is so Kamala-esque Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars(TM) - what makes you think you are in charge? at September 16, 2025 07:20 AM (xG4kz) A better wording would be that while all speech in the US is legal, as a society we should not tolerate dishonesty peddled for the purpose of engendering hatred towards another. We should call it out when and where we see it. We should educate, or shame, the people pushing it. Charlie Kirk was murdered for the lies of people who disagreed with him but couldn't articulate why they thought they were correct. @130/Thomas Bender: "Now don't get me wrong, I hate Windows but unless you are doing something where you absolutely need to boot into Linux, there are better alternatives."
Thomas, I think I might hate Windows 11 even more than you. ;-) I don't trust it on data confidentiality and security any further than I could comfortably spit out a dead rat. Further, it keeps annoying me with pop-ups requesting that I connect to a network (nope) and that I update my Windows security software (a fair request, but I'm not hooking this to a network.) Since Windows won't stop being annoying, Linux Mint gets the opportunity to be the main OS and Windows can be in the stand-by partition in case I ever find I need it. (Doubtful, but possible.) At the end of the day, user files are transferred to a desktop workstation via USB stick. The laptop is literally just a "taking notes" machine for use in meetings. That's it, that's all.
