You couldn't hide anything from him. His memory was long. Totally observant. He could open the screen door from inside and outside of the house and let himself in and out as he pleased. He would jump up inside and hot the inside lever and push the door open in one movement. To come back in he would jump up and punch the latch button to bounce the door off the jamb, stick his nose in before it closed and pushed the door open with his body. We had to give him pills one time. A small round white pill. He had a large dog dish that he always licked clean like it came out of the dish washer. I hid the pill in a huge mound of food. When he was done the bowl was licked clean, and in the bottom was the frigging pill, and that was clean. He found the damn pill and left it in the dish as if to say kiss my ass, you take it.

There's no test for entrance to the Academies, at least there wasn't in the 90s. You still had to apply for a nomination from your senators or representative on top of the application to the academy. There were also Presidential nominations (based on parent's military record) and Vice Presidential nominations (don't remember what this involved) and the aforementioned for the children of Medal of Honor recipients. The entire process is different for prior enlisted. The Air Force Academy also has a prep school on the installation.

I was always curious about that image, because vesuvius had erupted before the 79 AD episode. It had erupted almost 2000 years before that and was supposedly even more powerful than the one that took out pompeii. You would think even in pompeii times it wouldn't have a top on it. I have been to the amphitheater at Pompeii. It’s one of the best sites to see there- the rest is interesting, but a lot of it is hard to really see but for a few spots. Plus it’s really crowded.

Well yeah, majority of officers in the Air Force go through OTS, small number are direct commissions (JAG, medical, probably scientists). At least with the Air Force Academy, by the time you get to graduation your class is whittled down from around 1500 in Basic Cadet Training to between 1100-1200 (again '90s numbers). Unless you were in the class of '97 where they lost about 150 in one fell swoop due to a cheating scandal.

What's funny is that even ring knockers are reserve officers, been that way since the class of '99 graduated. That way they can pink slip (RIF) you more easily.

for the most part all of the academies reserve duty is being at the academy, whereas for OCS and green to gold shake and bakes their reserve work is reserve work where they are being groomed in practical application of theory concurrent with training.

I often joke about teaching Butterbars land navigation and map reading but that is rooted in truth. Back in the days of sail, almost all Royal Navy officers started-out as young-teenage midshipmen. They had to literally learn the ropes, how to sail a square-rigger, become very competent in navigation, learn gunnery, and demonstrate they could command men, before advancing to a regular officer, as a lieutenant.

USAID was administered by State but it was a slush fund for combined State/CIA ops. That's why it was targeted first by Trump and Musk.

We the American taxpayer were funding a lot of the ops that were run against us.

Thirty years ago it was "green to gold" in Army but they were also call mustangs then.

For some reason ALL the NCOs would say it was the way it should be, but not around the officers. And that mustangs chances for advancement were limited (by zee ring-knockers).

Now the Marines are different.
